Devo performing Mongoloid, live at The Observatory in Los Angeles, exclusively on Moshcam.
David Bowie dubbed them "the band of the future", Brian Eno produced their debut and everyone from Nirvana to Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine have covered them.
A contagious collision of New Wave punk, arty experimentalism and subversive politics, these music mavericks burst onto the world scene in the late '70s and turned pop music on its head forever with hits like 'Whip It', 'Girl U Want', 'Mongoloid' and 'Beautiful World'.
So when the chance to film these icons in action at The Observatory at Santa Ana, California came up earlier this year, we jumped at it. Needless to say, they didn't disappoint, delivering a spectacle jammed with hits old and new, gloriously oddball antics and their mental mascot, Booji Boy.
"The Mayan calendar was wrong," frontman Jerry Casale told the crowd on the night. "The world is not going to end this year so you're stuck with us for a long time."
We wouldn't have it any other way, Jerry.

It's so sad that I just discovered this song a few days ago, and it may be my favorite Devo track of all time. Me=under a rock. :( I can't give this enough thumbs up. I've been listening to this for the last two hours over and over. Thank you Devo!

Homer says he most likely would have been one of those over zealous fans that, I guess, got escorted out. This is the original Devo Homer fell in love with growing up in the late 60's, 70s, and early 80's!? Homer has the CD "Q: ARE WE NOT MEN? A: WE ARE DEVO! dated 1978 Warner Bros. Homer knows this sounds like a silly question but they still make CD's, CORRECT? I heard some sound effects on here that I didn't hear on the original song. I also see some overly zealous fans were removed from the stage.
Mothersbaugh sure knows how to shake his pom pom's.
A lot of people complain about this song. I think they are trying to emphasize that this is a cheer, an anthem, for people with Downs, people who society looks down on.

Well, it was the Observatory in SANTA ANA and not Los Angeles. The bouncers there at the time were pretty mean and over zealous. That looks tame. And I am a 58 year old punker who had been going to the Observatory for a long time. They recently calmed down a bit.

I've read that this band were a legend due to their live performances and robotic choreography. I must say I'm disappointed after watching this video. The singers are out of tune and the band as a whole seems... shockingly amateurish. I like the studio version of this song so much more!
