If it was in Bataclan Paris, in 78, I was there... A long time ago, but what a great time in this theatre, Stranglers, Devo, Talking Head, Damned, etc...
Noodles37UK - During those years (1978-1979), they always played these songs twice as fast live. When I first saw them in July ‘79 they were just ripping right through their set, really fast and really tight. Some time in 1980 they decided to bring it back down to album tempos for some reason. I much preferred them blitzing through the songs at hyper speed.
@@Brewzerr I think it's partially because they always play for around 1 hour, and by the time of the Duty Now tour in 1979, they had a MASSIVE setlist, because they kept adding more songs to their repertoire from 1977-79, without retiring many, if any staples. So they kept making the songs faster to fit into the set duration. Plus, it was probably really fun to play fast once they were well practiced.
@@CKT1138 That could be one reason, but I also remember an interview with Bob Mothersbaugh where he was talking about how they started speeding up their tempos after they relocated from Ohio to L.A. in the late 70's. He said that they were heavily inspired by the punk scene in L.A., and the trend in that scene was to play as fast as you could. I think it just kind of rubbed off on them, plus it allowed for more songs in their set, as you pointed out.
I will agree with some people that Mongoloid meant Down Syndrome but, this song is talking about a working man. What if it was a working man with Down Syndrome. It doesn't matter that's what I think the song is about is a guy just working wearing a hat making money No one knew.
@@Imdone13Gaming I wasn't referring to your comment or pseudonym, but to song lyrics and added to your narrative. I, too, missed the "one chromosome too many" lyric.
@@coreycox2345 No I know lol. It was how you said my name. Either way I never really considered listening to the lyrics until a good 2 months after the comment. Even then, I understood why people were offended, but it’s less of a relevant term now so why would people get offended by a song named Mongoloid.
I bet Alan has Popeye arms from playing the drums like he did for all those years!!! Sure wish he would come back for a tour or afew concerts!! Maybe he will play with them again when they get their chance at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame!!!
Sometimes I think all the fun was back in the 20th Century From Davey Crockett to Devo to Pee Wee Herman... Now it's all like big stupid digital special effects movies--Yawnsville, oHIo.
hey if you still have the original video file somewhere you should reupload this. 240p is terrible for audio, and if you reupload it now it should be in better quality.
@asdfghjklsebo No, the 2 (now 3) people who didn't like this video were NOT mongoloids--that's insulting to those with "one chromosome too many"--rather, they were Justin Bieber fans!!!
RIP, Alan! You were a wicked drummer, as this song shows.

I think that Devo is one of the few bands where the live version sounds either similar or better than the album version.
That's cos they're probably unabashed nutcases. This tape speed may be a wee bit faster though.
I was thinking the same thing. This even better than the record. I think the great drumming propels the live version that little bit higher.

That keyboard is one of the most addicting musical instruments ever created...
C'est un truc qui va au plus profond de votre esprit, et qui vous permet de croire que vous avez 20 ans. ..alors que c'est 53. Super.
My brother took me to my first concert. and DEVO was the band. 30 years and I still love DEVO... RIP my brother Bill. Thank you for your kindness...

This song should be a listening requirement in all music appreciation classes.
Looking for the best live version that does the synthizer intro from the studio version justice. This is best I've found so far
Was released on french TV "Chorus" in 1978.
Still amazing sound.
You know it's good when theres an unremovable ad and made to watch the the advertisement but I guess it's worth the wait. yeah most definitely.
I love their glasses.
Just heard the sad news about Alan Meyers. Liked his drumming on this song.

One of the most interesting bands of the 80's. I do not know their larter works, but every album of that period is a masterpiece.

But clearly in the lyrics it's : "One chromosome too many" But yeah, Devo's innuendos were not meant to be interpreted in a single way.
Whatever it was, nobody even cared, Imdone 13 Gaming.
Ok. Corey Cox 2345
