Devo performing Freedom of Choice, live at The Observatory in Los Angeles, exclusively on Moshcam.
David Bowie dubbed them "the band of the future", Brian Eno produced their debut and everyone from Nirvana to Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine have covered them.
A contagious collision of New Wave punk, arty experimentalism and subversive politics, these music mavericks burst onto the world scene in the late '70s and turned pop music on its head forever with hits like 'Whip It', 'Girl U Want', 'Mongoloid' and 'Beautiful World'.
So when the chance to film these icons in action at The Observatory at Santa Ana, California came up earlier this year, we jumped at it. Needless to say, they didn't disappoint, delivering a spectacle jammed with hits old and new, gloriously oddball antics and their mental mascot, Booji Boy.
"The Mayan calendar was wrong," frontman Jerry Casale told the crowd on the night. "The world is not going to end this year so you're stuck with us for a long time."
We wouldn't have it any other way, Jerry.

On oof the best drum back-beats of all time. So simple, and yet so recognizable...
That's for sure. I think it's my all time favorite!!
utterly amazing that a band that old, playing that kind of music, can sound that good. I dare say they sound even better then they did when they recorded this music!
After 40yrs.later still rocking!! Hell of good band!!
and they're STILL not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame !! sure sounded like a rock song to me !!
I turn 40 this year and desperately want to see them live.
@@MrManfly They wouldn't accept induction. That "institution" goes against everything they were about.
@@MrManfly RHOF is a travesty
Just amazing. This song was/is more relevant than relevant!! And it sounds great still after decades...
It sure is. The first time I heard this song many years ago,I ran and got my mama to listen. Many DEVO songs tell about very relevant about life. Love DEVO 🎼🎤🥰
one of the greatest albums ever made, thank you DEVO for FREEDOM OF CHOICE! \m/
This is pretty great. In ancient Rome there was a poem 'bout a dog who found two bones,
picked at one, licked the other, walked in circles then dropped dead. A sad tale but the point,
I suppose, is not to be overwhelmed by the choices. Maybe someday I'll understand this if I can
see Devo live a few more times and get spud wiser.
It's about how democracy doesn't give us actual freedom so we spend a lot of time choosing irrelevant stuff that's exactly the same at the end of the day.
I think they sound better in the video than on the actual album. What an awesome group
Love this song. I’m 58 and remember when this band broke out
What band that started in the '70s was *about* something and stayed true to that something all the way to today?
Fantastic song had the pleasure to see them live horden pavilion in Sydney Australia 1981 great show
Gordon Morrison I was there also Great gig Went to Coogee Bay after and can’t remember how I got home . They were the days when you knew You were brought up like cowboy I feel sad for 18 year olds today😩
Saw them in Brisbane the same year. Still have my Energy Dome.
I did not know Mark Mothersbaugh could pull Doritos out of his ass! So effing funny!!

follower of Mark since 1979. Working in Santa Ana since 1992. Best city I've been to.
So very relevant To what is happening now!
They still sound amazing!
Would've loved to see this show with my OG OC crew. Brilliant song then & especially so now. We Are DEVO!
Theyre still so good!
I see Mark still enjoys throwing things at the crowd!
Spaccano da sempre e per sempre ! Rimini stadio Romeo Neri, estate 1980 io c'ero!
I now need my morning shot of Devo, far more than my trad black coffee. It keeps me regular!
I Seen them in 1976-77 and they were totally Spud. I see they are still Spud boy.
cant repost it on facebook as abusive content . so the legends hit the nail on the head
absolutely fantastic they still got it what awesome band they rock
Oh so good.. Amazing band
DEVO ! They are authentic and they don't care about anything at all!
Where can I get a bag of Devo's?

That is Soo fucking great
Cool and fun version. Like the emphasis on guitars. Kicking ass for sure.

more costume changes than Cher. You gotta love that...
Have you ever seen a Weird Al concert? You'd be surprised how many his have.

2:28 Everybody's gangsta until Mark Starts throwing Doritos
Yaw...What a great tune! Probably my favorite from them....Its just simply one of those songs that makes you wanna raise your first in the air during the chorus...Well it does me anyway...8^)
INDEED! ME TOO! my favorite DEVO song as well.
You are not alone...
Love these dudes.
Genios precursores. saludos de Argentina!!
Yes!!!
Es un tema buenísimo de gran potencia y energía, estremecedor, eso es muy bueno.
Bien Devo.
Viva viva devo
I can't help feeling that they look like escapees from an old people's home. . not to deny the music. An old people's home in Miami.
I was at this show. Amazing.
BOB2 forever.
I usually prefer death metal but it’s good to return to the classics!
Mee too! It's where it all began for me.
What fun!! 😂🌼
The only thing in life that never seems to devolve is Gerry's hair :)
(it's a hairpiece, nothing to be ashamed of because it's a really really good one, but yeah he did bald out)
@@CKT1138 lol yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm pretty bald myself!
Awesome performance!!! What venue in Santa Ana was this at?
The Observatory, on Harbor Blvd. [The very western side of Santa Ana, so it's more like Costa Mesa/Fountain Valley. I lived a half mile away for over a decade.]
Hey Spuds! I think it would have been cool to see Ed Van Halen in this band or at least this live song. It would have worked
Only45k views?😢
Choose choice… the choice choice.
freedom of choice, freiheit zu wählen.libertad de elegir !! ufff
Is the guitar in the beginning a nod to computer age by Neil young
This could be my United States Air Force song
Alvin Lee was one of their best guitarists.
Ronnie James Dio, too.
moshcam you forgot to put the year on this vid.
ahh is everybody gonna ignore that giant beer gut
Poor Mark
This song perfect match today draconian law about mask/ vaccine mandate
Not only are they talented, idiosyncratic, but they look the least like rock stars of any group I can think of... ever. The 2 Bobs and Mark look like they could be running my local Ace hardware store.
about a
dog.
