Mothers back to black is a really good choice for plastic and rubber. 9 bucks for a bottle at walmart, lasted for my entire car. Not as black as spray paint would be, but a lot less risky to use since you can wipe it up with soapy water and shouldn't need to mask off anything. Worked wonders for my 05 CR-V.
I don't clean my place.
But I have spent 20 hours straight detailing my motorcycle.
Life of a detailer!! lol
Lol
Amen
Cuts rose scents I was thinking the same thing
@Cuts rose scents , are there any specific motorcycle products you use ?
I was skeptical about how good this product would be. I got some through an online source to try out. I did the recommended cleaning of the plastic trim on a 1999 Honda C-RV that had never had any treatment since new. The front and back bumper cover were near white after cleaning. I used denatured alcohol to wipe down with prior to applying the trim coat. I put two coatings on the rear bumper cover and the transformation was dramatic to say the least. From a near white/gray to a vivid black color. I did use an old toothbrush to get into the seams where the rag would not reach to cover those areas. This product is not cheap but then neither is the quality you get from the results of using this trim coat from DK. Spend the money get the right product the first time you won't be disappointed!
6:02 - I can appreciate a guy that passionate about his work!
Good video buddy
Liquid shoe polish does the same thing I’ve used it for years and much cheaper.
Unknown Presence are you seious? I still looking for effective solution after years....
I much prefer solution finish for this type of stuff. One tip of the open bottle on applicator will cover almost a whole bumper. As a plus, it won't hurt paint and just wipes right off paintwork. No tape needed and fully black most times in one application.
That seemed like a whole lot for a door handle lol.
But thanks for the video. Always appreciate seeing other products
I'm thinking this would work great for my faded windshield wipers and truck bed liner. Very nice results, thanks for sharing.
I dyed the windows aswell.worked great!
I would recommend taking the tape off as a final shot. In all GREAT vid. Very informative. Thx!
Surpreendente!! Congratulations.
ChrisFix has a recent video about using a ceramic coating for paint, for hard unpainted plastic. I use Turtle Wax Trim Restorer every few months, and sometimes a layer of Nu Finish polish on top.
I watched 10 trim restoration videos. 10 different solutions, each one apparently the best. Who do I believe?
Dye wont last long, best way i have found is to use a heat gun
FYI..used this on my golf cart and got some on the vinyl and the plastic not realizing it until it was dry. Diluted DK Magic sprayed on a clean rag, and it came right off!! We LOVE Magic!!
I use Industrial Strength Silicone Lubricant to shine up and restore my plastics. Works like a charm.
Didn't even know that these products existed, thank you. Need this in Arizona.
Thank you Ward, you guys are why we do what we do! If you're interested in getting Trim Kote in Arizona, you can purchase it online and we'll send it out to you. It can be purchased on our store if you're interested: store.detailking.com/car-trim-restorer-black
Thank you for making this video Keep up the excellent work. I'm impressed.
I normally use cheap mat black spray paint for these kind of work and it works
DUUUUDE!!!! THANKYOU!!!!! I've been going over all sorts of options to restore the bumpers on my trailblazer but I think I'm going to give this a shot I was about to try the heat gun method but I'd rather do this just to be safe!!!❤️❤️❤️😁😁😁
Forever Black works very nice on that faded black trim!
Good vid. Thanks. I've used black spray paint before & it lasted forever. Just an idea ...
Super Heroes on Wheels in Bandera Texas uses automatic transmission fluid. Works very well and lasts at least 6 mos.
Just used this on my wife's car. I honestly don't like the way it dries fast. I'm glad I tested it before I used it on a customers car first. I will stick with car pro pearl for a dressing or solution finish for a permanent fix. A little also doesn't go a long way "for me at least" if you try to stretch the product out it will dry to fast then streak and you have to apply another coat until you get it right.
Looks like a little didn't go a long way
lol my thought exactly
Exactly what i had in mind lol *little goes a long way (:
I was thinking the same 😒
I was coming to the comments to say the same thing, lol.
Still huge improvement
great information, got your self a new subscriber
Great video! Thanks for sharing👍🏻
I use stuff called wipe-new, it makes your faded plastic trim look brand new and almost as glossy as glass.
Excellent video. Thank you
Good stuff. Thank you
You gotta luv UA-cam where everyone's an expert and a social critic. Let's see your helpful video.
Honey I really want this car even though it has over 234K miles on it. I just can't get over how great the door handles look. take my money used car salesman
303 aerospace protection. It's great for rubber, vinyl, plastic and more. Just did a couple of 20$ tires from pick n pull and they look brand new. Was gonna send a pic but didnt work.
Should you tape off the lock, just in case?
What is the name of the dye. Thanks for video. Vary helpful
can it be applied to interior trim panels? for instance center consoles or lower dash panels that get pretty dull with age
Does it work on black rubber trims around the windows?
I like a gradual transition from grey to black
Nice job in your video. What do you suggest for scratched Plastic (ABS) trim?
Hi, Can you use the same product to treat scratches in the interior? Thanks!
my suv has silver over spray all over it cuz my person said i could just use lacquer thinner to clean it off..yet paint turned out fabulous looking so before i use your product what do you recommend?
Do you plan to add a dark brown? I have a Volvo V70XC in need of some TLC. Thx-
The best way to remove, not cover up wax that gets in your plastic trim is a simple pink pencil eraser. It takes some elbow grease but try it, you'll thank me I promise.
Looks very much like quadrons old stock they used to have in the 90s? I used to use this very same kit when at Ferrari egham ?
Nice job so is the heat gun fix a temporary fix
thanks!
loooooool good solution to sell your product
looks better then new
I have a fat marker for large areas or Sharpie for the hard to reach places ;) LOL
Hey thanks for sharing. That is a great tip. What is the name of the dye?
it takes that much for just a door handle?!
I use tire black for my plastic and bumper trimmings
Use 50+ sun screen cream works a treat on black plastic trim
I used, under car rubberized coating, lasts longer and has a cool texture.
Use a damp rag with armor all, if you really want that black plastic to shine, a damp rag with a little bit of clean motor oil.
This stuff looks similar to the griots garage bumper and trim restorer.
Unfortunately they changed their formula from a liquid to a gel and I haven't heard good things about it.
I'm using the last of my (liquid)bottle sparingly, but from the looks of it , I may have found a replacement!
That stuff lasted 2-3-4yrs I'll attest to it.
I used olive oil on my fiance's Hyundai very light handedly and that was 2 months ago and it looks great, no dust or dirt accumulation either
I did the same on my Nissan Xterra.. Works great..
How is this product for the interior faded black door panels where the door handles are? Please let me know.
Do you have anything for the rubber by the window glass?
Can you use the product on tires?
no before n after side by side pic at the end????
How long did you wait for the dye dry before rubbing the finishing paste on?
Can this be applied on windows black rubber trim too?
expecially.
i love that word.
how long does it need to cure before getting wet... like rain.. dew... first wash
Do these things just give a look or does it actually fix the problem, there’s a difference between looking and actually being back to how it should
What a salesman! I don't like commercials.
Have you ever tried the heat gun message?
*🌞We🗺color coat🌌it or put on Chrome covers👍🏾*
where i can buy?
How often can one use it in there hair?
Can you do a vid on conditioning leather and suede seats without getting the conditioner on the suede?
That's on our list of videos to do Ryan! In the meantime, I would suggest masking off the suede parts of the seat with safe release tape and avoid those areas.
Have you tried a heat gun instead? It should surface the oils in the plastic - and bring back the original luster.
Ok. Just an advert for his products. "Talk to our sales reps ..."
dressing plastic is a thing of the past, polishing is where its at. looks better and last much longer. like anything, longevity of the polish is is determined on owners wash/detail schedule.
He dyed it and then dressed it... how can you polish a very rough service anyhow?
I would love to know how to fix the outside door bumper guards on my white car. The thin white vertical strips on the door are now rust colored...
yo utilizo 3d desde hace tiempo
Between 6:02 and 6:08 the masking tape changes...
Is this just a magicians trick?
🤔🤔🤔
your right! if you look at the lay of the tape, they changed it, why!??
Wow. Good eye
Because he had to add 8 more coats!
How do you get the Trim Coat off the door lock ?
I actually just plasti dip all my old trim pieces and it lasts pretty long too.
I use dex 3 transmission oil.
Interesting, do you really use ..... does it work ?
So it takes at least three coats for you to cover a door handle....so a bumper would take the bottle?
Never knew under the sun was so cloudy.
Thank you for the video. Its pretty sad when people have to knock something like this..so on the serious side, a question. I have a Mustang GT California Special which has black valences on the back and front as part of the lower bumper. They have faded and I am tired of GLOSSY 1 week shines. Will this restore their look ? I am not looking for GLOSS...I am looking for uniform fresh look ...thanks again
I would recommend our Trim Kote & Revival kit. The Revival Bumper & Trim Dressing is great for restoring the faded look back to it's original look. store.detailking.com/car-trim-restorer-with-dressing
I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee with lots of plastic trim around it. It's all dark grey but can I use the black to change the color or will the grey show through?
m medrano
If it's anything like the griots product that I've used forever (but they changed the formula) it'll last a long time(years)
i had badly faded trim and I did it 2x for good coverage.
This stuff looks better and richer than the griots stuff
how do you remove scratches on such material?????
What is the name brand of the product
go ahead bro
What the name of both of the product you use??
was cleaning my engine with a degreaser it was too strong it left whitish stains on the radiator cover also black plastic how can i remove or with what??
Just use black spray paint for auto plastic.
Cheaper and last a lot longer.
Re sprayed my Jeep's plastic after 5 years
I've used flat. Put a satin finish this round, looks new.
Cheap roll of painters tape, old newspapers, $5.00 worth of paint.
can this be used on Jeep fenders????
Out there on the Golden Showe....I mean, Golden Mile Highway.
would it look good on a whole bumper? i have a lot of plastic on my 2003 GMC Sierra ( back of mirrors, both front and back bumper and some on my grill)
we are talking lots of surface area..... so my question would it be consistent?
Yes it works on anything plastic. We did it on the whole back bumper of a truck and it turned out great.
i didn't use tape when i did this.....is it bad if a little gets on the paint around it? i didn't use the black thing you were using.....i just used one i bought on amazon. its not a permanant thing so wanted to know if it's really bad for the paint if i keep getting it on the paint.
We recommend using tape to ensure that the dye doesn't come in contact with the paint, but if a small amounts are quickly wiped off, there shouldn't be an issue.
Would you recommend this for jeep fenders and bumpers or is there another product?
Try a heat gun first! Chris Fox has a video on it!!
out with the Chrome in with the plastic... Dammm
can I use the black on grey? I have only one piece of trim that's grey but I want black. or what would you recommend?
You can use Black Trim Kote on grey trim as long as you make sure to coat it evenly.
Is this product the same or as good as the discontinued Showroom New Grey Trim Dye? Also do you have a Plastic Conditioner similar to the Showroom New Conditioner?
+BryanInPHX Yes it works the same it's just a little bit thicker but works just as good! As for a conditioner we'd recommend our Revival which you can check out here: store.detailking.com/best-trim-restorer-for-cars
Oh look overpriced shoe polish...
LOL whats funny is.. if I had any shoe polish i'd prob try it.. not a terrible idea considering its prob almost the same crap
That does work and lasts a while too, I've had decent results with it but this stuff definitely has a thicker deeper color, shoe polish takes a few applications for real bad trim.
movle
MrTheHillfolk Heat it while buffing it for a glass shine. Trick I learned in the Corps.
JourneyTotheTruthandTotalRandomness
Kinda spooked on the heat deal.
I've seen alotta guys do it on the Mk2 vws (like mine) and 6 months later you see waves in the plastic....
griots made a good product , but they changed it to a gel formula and I haven't tried that.
The old product they made is still holding up decent, it lasts a couple years usually.
Thanks for the video. Couldn't help but notice the ignorant comments.... listen to the electronic courage that would never be said in person !
Thank you Paul!
No problem. I just recently bought a plastic and trim spray that's made by Duplicolor. It's like a spray paint. I've already painted some bumper trim with it. I'll let you know how it holds up.
Paul Morton How did it hold up? I am wondering as I need to do my car. Thanks.
Shontellè Lang it's holding up great. The paint also has a U V protectant in it.
Whatever Paul
I thought I was watching a video of a tried and true trim restorer, until he said “our” lol
Yeah I thought the same. I'm out! Talking way to much shit.
