So we had a version of Clovis Bray and a version of Maya Sundaresh at our tower the whole time. Crazy.
The way Maya reverses the machine's design and hooks the Veil up to the dead Exos is EXACTLY how Calus reversed the Crown of Sorrow and hooked up the "brain-dead" scorn to it so he could commune with the Witness. Not entirely sure the connection between the two, but there is far more to this than we can fathom right now.
So do you think maya is some what of a second Clovis, becoming infected by clarity and communing with the witness in a since and that process is what made the Lakshmi that the city knows?

Considering the veil was influencing her, it's very possible that she saw the witness' story inside the veil or something along those lines and she wanted to commune with it.
@@Yumais I think something inside the Veil is giving information, but twisting it and convincing people to go down the path that the Witness is going down. I think the Witness and Maya were given the same twisted information, but Maya made Lakshmi-2 and sent her to Earth. Why? Possibly to prevent the end they saw. Lakshmi was so dedicated to preventing ANY disaster, that it pushed her towards xenophobia and ultimately her death. (Not to mention Savathun's influence)
Similar to the witnesses origin as well, using the secrets learned from the darkness to merge an entire species into one.
It makes sense now why Savathun lured Lakshmi-2 to her death. She was following the advice of the Witness the entire time which made her a threat to everyone, hence why Savathun said she "exposed our hidden threats".
Now it makes sense everyone keeps asking who deleted the files on Neptune and neomuna that they had it was lakshmi2

Fun fact: In Hinduism, Lakshmi (one of it's principal goddesses) is associated with Maya, a concept associated with illusion and the spiritually unreal.
Dude I made a post on Reddit years ago because of this association. I pondered maya and lakshmi being the same person because of how bungie loves using myths and story’s from the real world for inspiration in so many facets of destiny. I got laughed off of there because the names were just super common names in India which somehow meant their is no possible connection between the two. I feel super vindicated and really excited because I thought it would be really badass for them to be connected like that. I can’t wait to see what happens!

Back in the day Lakshmi used to have a line where she said. "Lakshmi is not my real name. That's all I can tell you" it was then I knew there was some connection between her, Chioma and Maya. Maya even made reference to "our little cult" in one of her diary entries. The bread crumbs were there since the beginning.
So...if this is all true that Lakshmi was actually a copy of Maya + other dead exo brains and what happened to Lakshmi during Season of the Splicers... Savathun was covering her tracks on the Veil. She didn't want anyone to know about the Veil in order to protect the Traveler...

I just remembered! What Maya did to Lakshmi with the Veil was EXACTLY how Calus used the Crown of Sorrow to communicate with the Witness back in Season of the Chosen's exotic mission, "Presage".
He used a "chorus" of dead scorn to funnel the power in the Crown of Sorrow into one big scorn, or "conductor", to channel the Witness.
Shohreh is one of the most recognizable voices out there. Her voice fits into the Lakshmi-2 / maya lore good too. Lets hope we get some more juicy lore

Maya Sundaresh... filtered dozens, if not hundreds of Exo minds and her own into Lakshmi using the Veil. I don't think it's so much Maya... I think it's a Vex extension, an Agent Smith as it were. I think the Vex have been a part of the Exo from the beginning, and pulling back a cold memory or stringy personality from the Veil in the process would help explain why Maya-Lakshmi would do what they did back during season of the splicer.
Given all those minds being put into one exo, was Lakshmi the "Witness" they tried to replicate?

I knew it. I researched Lakshmi’s name years ago and I came to this conclusion we can pull a lot from our actual history and mythos to come to destiny conclusions.
I think Maya is gonna play a major role in post-Final Shape saga.

At this point I think it's pretty likely she's going to the be the leader of their new post-retcon Vex, post-The Final Shape, that are more "personalized". Or at least a division of the Vex. Like how the Sol Divisive serve the Witness and the Hezen Lords stay in the Vault of Glass. Maya's Vex will probably either be the main or secondary or tertiary antagonist after The Final Shape.
If that means the return of Shohreh Aghdashloo then I'll be thrilled.

I have a suspicion that the Vex are the physical remains of the Wintess' former race.
Considering they had a golden age that lasted literal aeons, it's not surprising that they would make and use the most advanced nanomachines.
SIVA is a barely controllable cheap copy of Radiolaria. Quicksilver is just SIVA mixed with Clarity refined Radiolarian for EM shielding.
Both are merely cheap copies of Radiolaria when you think about it.
It's likely why the Vex share a similar goal to the Witness, however are imposing their version of it by purely physical means.
They know a lot about paracausality, but can't comprehend how it works. They have a ridiculous amount of files on the Pyramid Ships too.
The Vex architecture is similar to Pyramid tech, but prioritises function over form. Even if said function involves an upward pouring Radiolaria fall into a ceiling lake.
It's like the nanotech of the precursor species the Witness is made from eventually formed a collective AI conciousness. After all, the physical bodies were left behind.
So whos to say the Nanites that likely augmented and sustained their life didn't just try to impliment the same plan as the Witness with all those bodies, trying to keep their makers alive. Making a semi-aware AI that was left on the Witness's home world with all their knowledge and tech.
The Precursors likely even tried to use Simulations and that form of time travel before finding the Veil. Heck, it's probably how they found it seeing as simulations cannot manifest in a set area around it.
Yet the endless night manifested without issue near the Traveller, so experimenting with simulations near the Traveller was likely not an issue.
Cast that simulation across the universe and they find a dead zone, the Veil.
...I will stop rambling about my crazy spinfoil conspiracies...sorry.
So what Maya said in the previous logs about writing consciousness onto "Clarity-infused" hardware wasn't a hypothetical - she actually did it. And the process required some brain-dead collateral.
Knowing that the Vex are radiolaria and that Exos have like a bunch of "Clarity-rinsed" radiolaria in them - does that imply that the process of creating Exos requires "brain-dead"ing some Vex milk? "The chorus and the conductor";
Seems like all of these elements are a parallel in some form or other of the Witness and its' race.
This theme seems to be sprinkled across Destiny 2 lore - Mara Sov and her connection to the rest of the awoken, Clovis Bray wanting to become the locus (?) of human evolution

- Yes, that's precisely what exposing Radiolaria to Clarity Control does, it wipes the Vex conciousnesses from the substrate and then the human mind gets imprinted onto the now inert Radiolaria
Something I think is interesting is we have polar opposites. We have several people using Darkness and the Veil to combine memories or even entire races into one individual and on the other hand, we have the Traveler and the Light being splintered and spread out among the guardians. I havent really seen anyone talk about that yet.

One big problem
Lakshmi-2 remembers Aukeluks and sacking of London. Which occured AFTER the Collapse, and after Maya Sundaresh left and got isolated on Neptune. This is noted in the lorebook "Achilles weaves a cocoon", I think in the final chapter.
Fs in chat for the original Lakshmi-2 story that we'll never get to read because Bungie had to come up with more fluff about the Veil at the last second.
Not really. We don't know how long after the Collapse the Fallen arrived in system. Nor do we have any time line as to how long these experiments were going on.
I see no reason to doubt that after what ever caused the Collapse to end there was a couple months to years of upheaval in the system before the Fallen arrived and sacked London. Which would allow plenty of time for these Veil experiments to take place.
In the new story Maya-Lakshmi-2 would still need to return to earth anyways right? And it makes sense to do it early on given the lost nature of Neomundas foundings. So I assume its Maya-Lakshmi that was at the sacking unless im mistaking something

Brings into question how much Savathun knew about Lakshmi-2's connection to the veil and how that played into manipulating her into opening the vex portal.
Alternatively, Lakshmi-2 wouldn't be the first scientist manipulated into building a vex portal... maybe worth looking to see if it's happened to any other characters in the law besides her and Clovis?
I think savathun knew of Maya or knew the a copy of Maya was in Lakshmi and she knew of Neptune, savathun manipulated her death so that we wouldn’t discover Neptune mysterious city to early. If Lakshmi remember or Maya resurfaced in splicer or before that season then that might’ve thrown a wrench into savathun plans so she acted early “killing” lakshmi
We also built one in the tower in Season of Undying where Ikora stands. Probably not connected but that adds another scientist creating a vex portal
HOLY SHIT! This is bananas! The idea that Osiris watched this happen within himself while Savathûn watched with him. Savathûn sent the Veil to Neptune… did she have a lock on Maya to become Lakshmi-2 to run all of this?!
Also, what do we know about Lakshmi-1 at this point? And Osiris knows Lakshmi-2 is dead, yeah?
And damn, Maya Lakshmaresh-2 pulled a The Witness-level move by pulling dead Exos into a single body.
I assume Osiris knows because he was told or researched what happened during the time he was possesed.

Just watched the ink cinematic where savathun explains the whole year 4 at her perspective, and there she says "i unmasked the enemies lurking inside your city's walls" when she reach the frame with the vex portal and lakshmi-2. Did savathun knew about all of these? Lakshmi-2/maya where something related to the witness or something more? which is the real reason savathun wanted lakshmi-2 dead? I wish we can get some answers next season. But i'm happy that everything is coneccting together, Exos, Awoken, Savathun, all the races in the solar system, etc.
i kinda lke it but like most recent lore stuff it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because its like lets retcon old lore on various levels and call it expanding the lore and have 'see this is what we planned from the begining' moments to do backflips to make lightfall make sense retroactively
I remember I wrote an article about this, at the end of the Season of the Splicer, to heavily hint that Lakshmi was, de facto, Maya Sundaresh or a version of her. The site has been closed some months ago, but I am glad that this "revelation" was already foreseen (and pretty clear to me) back then :)
It's such a shame we're getting the lore the way we are, this stuff is so interesting and cool to imagine. They seriously need to start doing cutscenes for this stuff.
Bungie generally do recap ink pics now on season jumps etc to bring people up to speed so it lets the lore nerds figure stuff out and then confirm it

The bitter sweet irony of Sundaresh despising Bray for all he did to humanity in the quest to escape the mortal coil, only for Sundaresh to fall prey to similar influences and end up carrying out similar atrocities in the name of progress. Clovis was exposed to the anomaly and went down the egg soap route for immortality, Sundaresh was compromised by the veil and ended up putting alot of her eggs in the egg soap basket too.
Well at least Maya was only driven mad AFTER contact with The Veil. Clovis was always a narcissistic sociopath, Clarity just made him even worse.

Also... Sounds like this is the creation of the divination device the FWC and Lakshmi used. Maybe there was some data corruption that that caused a memory loss in Lakshmi, or maybe she always knew about neptune and the veils existence. Wherein Savathun used the Taken mind to interact and effectively glean info from Lakshmi about Neptunes existence, which would have been out of the purview of the witness. This also explains how Lakshmi's perspective during that season seemed so gravely out of place, even given our intereference and our revelations through the course of that season.
Just thoughts tho
Not only does this explain the hidden threats line. This also explains why she was able to survive the FWCs machine they got from Ishtar. She is not one mind but multiple minds filtered into an exo body. Id even venture to guess Lakshmi was designed to use the machine.

I think the most interesting takeaway from this revelation is all the different types of "Collective Consciousness" we are seeing in the advent of Lightfall. We have the Exo Brain in Europa that contains the minds of all people in the Exo Program, the CloudArk on Neomuna which has the digital minds of the Neomuni people, and even previously we had the collective mindscapes of the Qugu and Ecumene which did something similar for their peoples, even now they're both extinct. All of these Collective Consciousness are linked via the Darkness, and they all share a commonality: The Witness.

Clovis: Experimented on human life, had no care for anyone, only cared for his legacy, wanted to be humanities hero, created the exo's, became corrupted by clarity control, turned himself into an exo, vex invasion on europa.
Maya: Began studying the veil, began caring little for any life, started imprinting herself into exo's, vex began to attack neomuna.
There is definitely similarities.

The secret might be the main reason behind her doing stuff with the vex and why she basically off'd herself in splicer, major implications that she knew something about the witness.
It all just feels so... comic book. Every character is related or involved in some way with each other and if not, it's retroactively made to fit. All this is doing is just reaffirming my decision to not even bother with final shape if fanfic tier level of writing is what I can expect going forward.

Another huge thing is that Clovis saw a version of maya whenever he was speaking directly to the I thought was the witness. But in collectors edition for beyond light there’s the chapter about her just showing up there, and Clovis is still kinda a dangling plot thread too. FWC also has connection to the VOG research team via the no time to explain team in d1, tying a connection to VOG
We've known Lasksmi-2 was Maya since the Season of the Splicer when the lore showed her talking to a reformed Eliksni captain. She knew his prior name and talked about the atrocities he has committed. There was also supporting lore about the Future War Cult revealing Maya possibly turned herself into Lakshmi-2 to be able to handle the stress of the future telling device, that was new to us at the time. I didn't think it was that big of a secret at this point. The bigger revelation is that Lakshmi-2 was created using The Veil on Neomuna. That adds the possibility of a ton of lore to fill in how she got to The Tower and what all she really knew and foresaw using the machine.

Holy shit, The Veil was already being mentioned in D1 lore cards about the FWC 💀 I decided to rewatch some of your videos about what was known about the Exo Stranger in D1, since some thought she was Maya Sundaresh and felt her being Elsie Bray was a retcon. "Destiny lore The Exo Stranger (and Destiny's hidden love story). Lakshmi called the Device "Openings of the veil".

It’s funny how retcon is being mentioned and people are freaking out. It is industry standard in comics, another form of story telling in a procedural way over decades, to perform a retcon every 10 years. Brings the content up to current standards, which have changed considerably since 2014 in the case of Destiny✌️
I vaguely remember the mysterious logbook mentioning that Exo resonated and amplified the darkness's messages so it makes sense that they would for the Veil as well. Also, combining multiple dead bodies using the Veil is eerily similar to the origins of the Witness...

Could be but we’d have to be careful. If he comes back without the Light he’d be vulnerable to reboots. And you know he doesn’t want to become Cayde 7. He even warns us about it. I want that man back like nothing else, but he has to stay at 6.

I’m not sure if this is common knowledge, so excuse me if I’m just stating the obvious, but the room you listen to the research logs is the room they set up the “chorus” of minds to connect with the Veil, with the “conductor” up front

i actually think maya's imprint was Lakshmi-1. then she would be wiped creating Lakshmi-2, who is completely unaware of her past. what if when she puts the device on in the present, she remembers everything that happened before? that could be what maya's imprint supposedly "knew"
That would be an interesting theory if the log didn't refer to her as Lakshmi-2, meaning she was already on her second reset. The name itself was "borrowed."

i wonder if Maya Sundaresh was the first true connection point between the human race and The Witness. the first it tried to use to push towards and bring forth The Final Shape, similar to how it uses it’s disciples, maybe even Clovis Bray, Eramis etc
I'm suspecting we're seeing Maya head down the path the Witness took. The Veil whether as intention or as a side effect infected the minds of Maya and the people of the Witness. It's just that the Witness went much further than Maya did.
Soooo this is essentially what callus was doing and the scorn with the egregore and connecting a “chorus” and a “conductor”

for the record, maya is the Sanskrit word for illusion--often in context with the physical world we live and breathe in. Essentially, that this world is an illusion because it is limited and impermanent in contrast to that which is permanent, i.e. the atma or soul or spirit, and God. Different traditions also consider consciousness itself to be eternal too, but it's neither here or there. consciousness is generally tied in with the philosophy of the soul in most Hindu traditions. 'Lakshmi' is the name of the wife of Maha Vishnu (Supreme Lord, God, Sustainer) and is considered as Divine Mother. She also represents creation, or considered AS creation itself... In other words, creation is the lover and beloved.
I do like the toying of potentially with the lore and these words in there respective contexts... very cool
this is more just to get an answer because it’s probably not true at all, but is there any possibility that the dead exos conjoined into one body are resulting in Clovis Bray? i mean he’s just a giant exo head, and would be a cool way to introduce him back into the story in the next 2 seasons

OOOOOOO THIS MAKES "Adventure: Deep Conversations" VERY INTERESTING! If you line up a few things. Maya. Lakshmi. The Veil to the Traveler. And the Vex.
There is a copy of every Exo ever made in the Bray Tech facility, the Deep Stone Crypt? Is it possible that Maya Sundaresh obtained a copy of Lakshmi 2 (as distinct from the Lakshmi 2 we all know from fronting Future War Cult) ?
It's possible, however the Ishtar collective and clovis bray have always been at odds with each other, even before the collapse. They basically spied on each other if there were signs of subterfuge
Rather than Lakshmi being a duplicate of Maya, I think it's far more likely that the Lakshmi Chioma talks about is actually Lakshmi-2 pulled out of the Veil and backwards through time.
Now we also have to remember that Maya Sundaresh is STILL in that Vex Simulation saving copies of herself too. So how does that play into all of this as well as the Oxot Machine from the Strike on Nessus

I'm pretty new to Destiny, only started playing during lightfall (though have played all the other available campaigns, I like diving into story and lore). So knowing that I am probably wrong: this sounds a little bit like the Vex to me. They can travel through time, predict the future. The Vex also seem to be this sort of universal consciousness that simply inhabits those machines, at least to my limited understanding. So if some exos, or an evolution of some exos end up being the final form of the Vex, this does fix the problem of the Vex not being a personable or relatable villain for post Final Shape story lines, if the Vex are going to take center stage, that would be an interesting way to develop that race.
Wasn't there already pretty much evidence that Maya was Lakshmi-2? Or maybe, enough lore to make a strong theory of it long before Lightfall came out.

Osiris being so shaken is what hit me the most about this. Especially the soft yet clearly shocked "What!?" at the first mention of Lakshmi. It feels like it all still lines up and gives context to the Pre-Collapse FWC being lead by Maya, and Post-Collapse FWC being led by Lakshmi-2. How much of Lakshmi's "rescue" was planned? Maybe Maya knew through the device what was going to happen and set it all up? I get the hint that she knew the Veil was on Neptune and specifically went there to get to it during the Collapse, and may well have done it specifically then to prevent others from also finding it. Specifically Clovis.
I wonder if it was partly that the perception that Maya was supposed to have been more moral and ethical than Clovis Bray(even if evidence way back was that she was still pretty bad.) This feels like she really wasn't. I'm not sure she's Worse, but they're definitely both about the same in their apparent amorality and lack of ethics. And people like that tend to either get along swimmingly, or despise each other with no in between.
I could swear there was a point way back where Lakshmi claimed to be Maya, but couldn't prove it. Either way I think while Lakshmi is probably proven now to be some manner of continuation OF Maya, she also isn't. Not completely. I wouldn't be surprised if fragments of those other exominds were dragged along. Maybe that's what made Lakshmi different in some respect. But even then, given what happened with use of the Device prior to the Collapse, the whole thing with Ishtar having swarms of mental copies in the VexNet, which may well have been reintegrated with their originator... well That would explain the erratic behavior and emotional instability Maya had during some more recent lore entries with the Clovis Bray stuff. (I wanna say specifically the Spire of the Watcher stuff). If she knew everything I think she knew prior, that could be why she involved Ishtar in the Exo Project to begin with and then disconnected the moment she had what she needed from it. The spat over the existence of the Pillory in the Spire was just a pretext.(It could also easily be that she was genuinely unaware of it, and it was a threat to her plans so she pulled the ripcord having everything she needed anyway. Or at least had Enough.)
As a final thought, we know that Exominds can be edited. It could easily be that Lakshmi knew about the Veil, but not about where it was or how to get there. Or possibly didn't remember at all as it was not needed for whatever plans existed for Lakshmi.
I agree, I pledged to FWC in D1 because not only were they the most interesting faction but Lakshmi's voice actress......i could listen to here all day.

may also be annother universe or an intrinsic aspect of the universe.
I think the secret that we don’t know is that someone else was listening too and maybe changing the events that lakshmi saw
