Nice additions. I agree that the urban sketching palette is just well chosen. It actually got me to try this brand. He’s coming out with tubes probably later this year. I hope they stay reasonably priced.
Like all other affordable brands (M Graham I'm lookin' at you) I'm sure the price will go up over time, they're getting so popular, with more demand comes higher costs, but I'm happy for them, they're a great entry in a diverse market and I think they have a place there. I do wonder how adding tubes to the lineup will impact that though - I think the affordability comes with the form factor unfortunately. We'll see!
"The spirit moved me" So that's what it's called when you just get that feeling that you need something xD I felt that way about getting the Yarka paints before they stopped selling them where I lived because of... certain... issues going on. I'm glad I did because they are quite enjoyable. I'm glad Roman Szmal is expanding their capabilities of what they can make!
😂 Yep! Hm Yarka - aren't those just re-branded White Nights but twice the price? Yeah I'm still loving that little palette, packs quite the punch! Such an excellent selection, RS is on his game for sure.
@@SarahBaileyArts Yep, Yarka is basically Murican White Nights. Though I got mine on a sale at the time for $50 or so. I've been watching Roman Szmal for a while now, I already have enough watercolors to get me through the next year though but it's been fun to watch them grow.
@@TsukabuNosoratori2 Oh that's not a bad price at all if it was more than 12 full pans, RS is fun because it's a different formula, not quite well behaved, not quite runaway. Just... different.
@@SarahBaileyArts Yarka St. Petersberg are the original Whitenights from 1992...in an amazing plastic palette that is nothing like the one that houses the 36 White Night pans. I still have one of my 2 sets of these from 1992..they are VERY GOOD...maybe not lightfast...had transparent full pans...the Cobalt Blue was A+...Janis...in The Yukon Canada
I don't have Roman Szmal watercolors, but looking at your swatches here, I agree with you that the colors in this palette are well-chosen. I keep hearing good things about this brand and - if I could justify buying more paints - I'd love to try them. BTW... your intro nearly had me yelling 'SHIELDS UP!'.
It really is an excellent selection! I could have been just fine without the additions, and I'm pretty sure I used almost entirely the original colors in the painting I did using my set.
Hi Sarah … I was a bit confused when you were deciding between Gold Ochre and MA Natural Sienna… which one did you leave in? Looking forward to your paint out. Oh … and I miss the old intro where you pop into frame … that was a great hello
Hi Katherine! Yes I realized in editing that was a bit confusing, I ended up going with the gold ochre because I work better with mostly non-granulating colors, either would be fine, it just depends on your preferred style and techniques. Thanks for the feedback about the intro! Basically doing these videos is a hobby, and coupling that with the serious burnout and depression I had last year, I've been opting to put less pressure on my videos lately. Essentially I'm being a lazy editor. I'll try popping the intro back in next time though, I like it too!
loved watching this! always fun to see what other people got and why. :D i love that plastic base hack. also, that's my first time seeing that type of tape, so cool! feels a lot better and easier than how i do it which is hacking away and removing the two racks from the metal tray part. and then i sticky tac my half pans onto that. your plastic hack definitely takes less time :D my haul of RS half pans is currently stuck in customs. hopefully it'll be let out sooner than later haha~
Yeah I usually do my best to keep things in original condition aside from the use of the paint in case I want to sell it or give it to a friend. I think the plastic and tape was my partner's idea, so clever!
@@SarahBaileyArts I use the metal bases minus the rails...but put a good SURGICAL TAPE...like 3/4" on each end ...doubled...in the middle as a tab to lift the tray/plastic insert in and out of the whole unit...to change colours...or to use the inside bottom mixing area. You could do that too with your little plastic tray set up...just n idea for you. could you name that tape you use? or where to buy it even better...never seen it...wonder how easy it is to remove the pans...or remove from a surface...cool idea...thank you.
@@kookatsoonjan I believe it's called nano tape most commonly but don't quote me on that. Clear double sided mounting tape might also get you to the right thing. You can find it on amazon if you know what you're looking for. It's actually SUPER sticky so it's difficult to remove things once you've stuck them on, though it's definitely possible. I don't ever use the bottom mixing area so I just stick the plastic piece in and leave it, but you could definitely make some tape tabs to pull it out if needed. Once pulled out the pans will continue to stick to the plastic with no issue.
@@04Ammy04 If you've never tried Etchr, their sketchbooks are one of the best 100% cotton watercolor books out there. There's been some new entries on the market the past few months that I haven't tried yet but I love these. The hot pressed - not so much though. I prefer Blick's 100% hot pressed over Etchr's. No sketchbook though, I bind my own when I want hot pressed paper.
Yup, it's so hard when you're shopping online, I picked brushes that I figured would work for *something* as opposed to sizes on either extreme end, but quill sizing is particularly hard! I'm still pretty happy with the synthetic blend brush, it was a new and welcome experience to have a stiff synthetic that still holds a lot of water. I didn't have nearly as many "low flow" issues as I normally would have with a stiff synthetic, particularly doing the wet into dry areas.
I love seeing all those beautiful Roman Szmal colors. Very satisfying! Cute little palette you set up, too.

Even if you feel you really didn't need the extra paint your palette turned out so nice 😍 can't wait for your review ☺️

I really like the color choices of this urban set except that I would need a cooler green, I might substitute the olive green like one with a viridian
That's interesting, I almost always prefer a warmer green, do you use it for landscapes? water?
oh my gosh! i was not ready for all the dropping in the first several seconds haha!
