You made it to yet another country! I was in Azerbaijan for only 4 days in 2019 and visited only the area around Baku, but thats a very big "only", around Baku there is the mud volcanos, the Gobustan ancient settlement, the burning mountain and the fire temple (Atesgah). Some fun facts about Azerbaijan, despite the majority being formally Muslim, it is a huge friend of Israel and probably one of the most irreligious countries in the world outside of Europe, and the currency the Azerbaijani manat is fixed to the US dollar with a fixed value that pretty much doesn't change, and the majority of ethnic Azerbaijanis does not live in the Republic of Azerbaijan, but in neighbouring Iran. May I also recommend the Museum of Miniature Books which showcases the smallest book in the world. Enjoy filming in this country, it was one of my favourites to film for sure.
Hello, I am from Azerbaijan. I hope you had a good time while you were here. Here is some information for others who want to visit Baku. If you are visiting for one week, a maximum of 10 manats is enough for a Baku card. It's unfortunate that you spent 100 manats on it. Also, regarding taxi at 11:09 second, they are likely overcharging; it should only cost around 5 manats to go there. I apologize for this as an Azerbaijani, try to use Bolt or Uber. Hi Gabriel, Interesting choice of traveling to Azerbaijan I realize it's a new country you're traveling to of course many unfamiliar places to see and experience for yourself and your viewers looking forward to seeing the city. It's going to be interesting to see your take as you go into the city. I wonder if you have some locations that you intend to see as soon as you can. Anything that other viewers have mentioned to take in and enjoy you do have some money on a metro card to travel around the city's transit system there must be some locations to see while visiting the main city of Baku.
To travel on the metro or buses, you need to buy a card. You can buy a card for 3 trips or a permanent one. In addition, you need to put a certain amount of money on it, considering that one trip around the city costs 0,5 AZN. Keep in mind that money from the card is not returned, but the card itself can be returned when leaving Baku.
And from what I can see train fares are 0.30. Can't see you making 300 trips in a few days. Maybe see if you can get a refund, or transfer credit to someone else for cash.
As a half Bulgarian, I was surprised that I could understand the taxi driver telling you to write on the phone. He was saying "pishi" which is the same in Bulgarian. I guess it might be because of the presence of some Turkish words in Bulgarian and probably in Azerbaijani too, but who knows
@@RovexHD All right, mistery solved. I was considering as an option that the taxi driver was trying to talk in Russian with Gabriel but scrapped it at the end as less likely. Indeed in Georgia, I used my Bulgarian understanding and the few Russian words I know to get around...
I believe you could get refund for that. You just have to approach help desks at one of the metro stations (there is one at 28 May station). You can return the card and its balance should be refundable. As for the ride from the airport to the city center, you can take uber or bolt. Both are quite affordable. Should range between 10-20manats. Be careful however, some taxi drivers can try to charge you more with some excuses. If you use bus or metro, only add 10 manats or so to your card balance. You can use the same card for more than one person.
Nice to see your new country and new former USSR. It is also interesting that the third largest city in this country is named Ganja and it seems like super amazing through pictures. :)
I am not a traveler. But I will research the country I will visit beforehand. I learn how the metro bus works. I will go and see where the hotel is. I'm interested in the money of the country I'm going to. After that, I'll check taxi prices. I research what taxi programs there are. I mean, it surprised even me that someone who had traveled to so many countries was so ignorant.
Doing all that research online in advance will take a lot longer than just figuring it out when you get there. Since I travel constantly I don't usually have a lot of down time somewhere to spend hours trying to figure out bus schedules and metro stations and taxi prices in foreign countries. And I already spend hours every day online and on my computer editing videos and managing my channel. So I have no interest in spending more time trying to figure out all this stuff online, when I know based on years of experience doing this that I'll figure it out on the ground when I get there. I made a video talking about this: ua-cam.com/video/qrqBkKFkQLw/v-deo.html
20:44 you should've bought some juice or something on the airport to get change and use it on the bus, but you know flying around from country to country can be stressful
2:52 ''OUTSIDE!'' The buses are outside? No sh!t Sherlock!!! And there was me thinking you could flag one down inside the mens toilet! I can't believe she works on the Tourist Information desk. She's about as helpful as a dissolving Durex!
I’m from Azerbaijan. As an Azerbaijani, I can say that this behavior was not pleasant at all. We are hospitable and helpful people. This behavior did not suit us
When I saw Gabe is now in Azerbaijan, this line from the LOTR movie popped into my head, when Pippin says: The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm.
Man, i'm so sorry that you've had those problems. Can't believe the half of the video was just for reaching your hotel😅. It's always good to have someone as a guide to help you when u go to explore a new country. As a matter of fact, to any country right now, coz wherever u travel in these days, they just wanna take all your money😅.
25:27 Another fun fact: The Azerbaijan word "zeytun" (olive) is related to the Spanish word for olive, "aceituna". These languages (among many others) borrowed it from the Arabic "(az-)zaytūn". Thanks for the video.

@@yon4209 what are you talking about? the horrific crimes were committed by armenians against Azerbaijanis, including Khojaly genocide. and the deliberate night-time bombings of civilians in Ganja and Barda. Aliyev did everything right, he liberated Azerbaijan's lands and did it in the most possibly humane way - armenians should be thankful they were not repaid in the same currency

Looks like a very beautiful city
Love the food and beautiful accordion music ❤
Totally in awe 😯
Nice people there 😁
Welcome to Azerbaijan ❤
Hi Gabriel, Interesting choice of traveling to Azerbaijan I realize it's a new country you're traveling to of course many unfamiliar places to see and experience for yourself and your viewers looking forward to seeing the city. It's going to be interesting to see your take as you go into the city. I wonder if you have some locations that you intend to see as soon as you can. Anything that other viewers have mentioned to take in and enjoy you do have some money on a metro card to travel around the city's transit system there must be some locations to see while visiting the main city of Baku.
Welcome🤗
Azerbaijani language is a Turkic language, a family of languages where the Turkish language belongs. In Turkish olive is Zeytin.
Very exotic, very cool!
Looks like you're going to visit multiple museums like National Carpet Museum to make use of that baku Card. a trip to Shaki city in the cards?
According to the guy on the bus it only works for the metro and buses. But worth asking if I go to a museum.
And from what I can see train fares are 0.30. Can't see you making 300 trips in a few days.
Maybe see if you can get a refund, or transfer credit to someone else for cash.
Good night Gabe anticipating to your next video about Baku...✌😴
Great choice! I've always wanted to go there.
As a half Bulgarian, I was surprised that I could understand the taxi driver telling you to write on the phone. He was saying "pishi" which is the same in Bulgarian. I guess it might be because of the presence of some Turkish words in Bulgarian and probably in Azerbaijani too, but who knows
Haha !
Azerbaijan was a Soviet republic. Many people speak Russian.
@@RovexHD All right, mistery solved. I was considering as an option that the taxi driver was trying to talk in Russian with Gabriel but scrapped it at the end as less likely. Indeed in Georgia, I used my Bulgarian understanding and the few Russian words I know to get around...
Actually he was trying to say it in Russian.
So the lady on the information desk did a great job “outside” cost you $60 🤦🏼♀️
Probably she was on her period, I guess :)
The OG travel vloger still killing it !!!!❤
Nice to see your new country and new former USSR. It is also interesting that the third largest city in this country is named Ganja and it seems like super amazing through pictures. :)
You are welcome

Hello Mr. Gabriel. I am so happy when I saw your video. Thanks for video! By the way I from Azerbaijan 😅
Welcome to our country Sir
Thanksss❤
20:44 you should've bought some juice or something on the airport to get change and use it on the bus, but you know flying around from country to country can be stressful
I missed Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 missed the food and our beautiful music 🎵
ANOTHER LOVELY VIDEO :)
Gabriel, you are traveling machine! 🦾✈️🌏
as a azerbaijani i can say i love my motherland this country is very good
Welcome to Baku
Just amazes me your in Azerbaijan now, could be an interesting
2:52 ''OUTSIDE!'' The buses are outside? No sh!t Sherlock!!! And there was me thinking you could flag one down inside the mens toilet! I can't believe she works on the Tourist Information desk. She's about as helpful as a dissolving Durex!
🤣🤣🤣No shit she aas a great help. Who is the fool that puts such ignorant piece of furniture behind the information desk.
I’m from Azerbaijan. As an Azerbaijani, I can say that this behavior was not pleasant at all. We are hospitable and helpful people. This behavior did not suit us
Welcome to Azerbaijan, I hope to you have a good time in our country
When I saw Gabe is now in Azerbaijan, this line from the LOTR movie popped into my head, when Pippin says: The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm.
I'm a big LOTR fan but that one doesn't really make sense. 😛 Although in their case it probably did somehow.
Nice bro. Waiting eagerly for the next upload. Please take care and travel safe inside Azerbaijan.
They use the new London taxis, didn’t expect that.
Why not😅
Welcome to Baku .... "Outside!"
What you were expected does every visitors should have been.invited to our homes? Do you invite me at your home If I come to your country
Gabriel should have a playlist on his UA-cam channel of his favourite songs 🎶
I do actually, and (very cringey) music videos to go along with them: ua-cam.com/video/NFZ9FJuufZk/v-deo.html
Including the theme song we hear in each video !

Welcome to Baku!
Super surprising experience. From my armchair. Your work is fun and awesome to watch.
Thanks for sharing. The late-night musician seemed to play kind of a sad song or it was just traditional music.
I so want to go there so glad you're there, eager to hear the police in Kuwait back story
25:27 Another fun fact: The Azerbaijan word "zeytun" (olive) is related to the Spanish word for olive, "aceituna". These languages (among many others) borrowed it from the Arabic "(az-)zaytūn". Thanks for the video.
Interesting. 🤔
@@GabrielTravelerVideosEven in India we call it Zaitun, must have been borrowed from Arabic as it does not grow here.
Armenians also did the same, we also have that word representing olive: “zeytoun”
Thanks!
Thanks, appreciate it. ✌️
sir, you have paid a lot to taxi driver, if you used a bolt aplication, it would be just 4 or 5 manat.
Its a windy chilly night on Baku
Baku actually means "windy city".
