I just looked up how it's possible to get a visa to visit Baku and Azerbaijan. If you are an American citizen with a valid U.S. passport you can apply for an E visa online 3 or 4 days before arrival and it costs about $200 or $300 dollars and its only a 30 day visa.
No it doesn't. It costs only 25 dollars including service fee if you buy it from the official Azerbaijan government website for this service and not a third party website, some of whom charge astronomical fees for no good reason.
@@Resmith18SR You can apply months in advance if you wish to. Gabe is staying for a whole week but could stay longer if he wanted to, it doesn't say anything about 5 business days on the government website. The E-visa is valid for 90 days.
@@vaultkeeper2 I'd like to visit Baku but I wouldn't want to go all the way there just for a week. A few months maybe or a month minimum. Sounds like it would be difficult to stay that long because of the visa. I believe Albania let's a U.S. citizen stay an entire year with just a valid passport, unless they changed that.
I'm Azerbaijani, and seeing you walk around my city and showing it off was awesome. One correction though, at 01:04, the name of the tower is Qız Qalası in Azerbaijani, so Maiden Tower is its name in English. You didn't have to say it like that lol.

Really interesting city! Some really nice areas of the city. A shame that the transit card system at airport doesn't have a note saying "no change distributed." And the girl at the airport was wholly unhelpful about the bus. I would probably give the card away at the end of the visit to an older person. Sounds like Kazakstan is next! Almaty and Astana is on my list as well!

Gabriel , Thank you for the current and past history. It is a clean city, it seems. Those boys were so excited that you like Turkey , fun to watch their interaction with you ❣️
17:15 the history of this map goes back to 1918 28th of may, despite the fact that Azerbaijan gained back its independence in 1990. Because Azerbaijan was already established in 1918 and was acquinted by the other world countries in 1920 in Paris conference. 24:50 it is not Artsakh, or Nagorno Karabakh. These absurd institutions were set by Soviet Union. Zangazur was also given to Armenia and Nakchivan became separeted due to Soviet Union. They did this for making obstacle between two turkish countries. Karabakh is one of the main regions of Azerbaijan which was accepted in 1991 by UN. And armenians fleed from Khankendi voluntarily, we offered them Azerbaijani citizenship. However they completely rejected it. So what can be done? At least we did not apply any terrorist act like they did in 1992 in Khodjali.

By the way, Gabe, as a former student of religion I thought you would like to know that the references to fire in Azerbaijan also refer to its pre-Islamic history as a center for Zoroastrianism, which was also practiced across Persia and still survives among the Parsi in India. I enjoyed the interaction with the young men 😂 and would love to walk around Baku on such a lovely evening ❤
@@vaultkeeper2 Exactly. I forget how much I paid but it was probably $25, on the government website: evisa.gov.az/en/
@@vaultkeeper2 Ok, so do you have to apply 3 or 4 days in advance and does that $25.00 entitle you to only 5 business days in Azerbaijan?
Baku, is called the city of fire!
The building at 7:36 is modeled after a flame!
Baku actually means Windy City and Azerbaijan means the Land of Fire. But maybe it's also the City of Fire.
Get well soon. I’m curious about your health precautions when traveling. How do you prepare? Check up? Vaccines? Flu shots? Etc also travel and health insurance would be an interesting topic if you want to cover them one day. Thanks
The bus fair is very cheap (0.40 Manat), looks like it's one price no matter the distance. That's going to take some trips to get your card spent 🤣
Gabe, the Maiden Tower is actually its name in English, maiden like virgin. You seem to pronounce it a bit differently :)
The irony in that is superb. He generally butchers foreign place names but when there's one that is said like it is in English he overthinks it and makes it sound more "exotic" than it needs to be. Brilliant lol!
Девственная башня - это потому, что в древности она была сторожевая и никакому врагу не удавалось приблизиться к берегу города. Ее никто не мог взять. Поэтому она девственная.
Next destination north-east, I guess that would have to be Astana, Kazakhstan! You and Bald and Bankrupt would have to be the only English speaking travel vloggers who covered Azerbaijan extensively independently, looking forward to videos out of Baku! I went on one of those tours from Baku, visited the Fire Temple, Burning Mountain, Mud Volcanos and Gobustan, they are high quality tours and doesn't cost alot.
or Uzbekistan
What tour company did you take?
@@Ananimous7777 I don't remember. One of very many in Baku.
The backround music is excellent.By the way Baku is 5 million not 2.6.Have a good trvel
20:19 "All Roads Lead to Baksovet." The Baksovet has always been the city's primary municipality building in Baku. Today, it serves as the Mayor's office
17:10 there is not area called Republic of Artsakh!! It's called Karabakh, and it's the part of Azerbaijan. So the map is not old
Really interesting city!
It would be nice to see something from the countryside in the Caucasus mountains in a day tour.
В этом смысле стоит посетить Габалу, КубУ, отдаленное горное село Хыналык,особенно аутентинчный древний ШекИ, Лагич.
Neat capital
10:55 Nice view.
This is one openminded country
Let me guess. I think Gabriel is flying to Kazakhstan next. He said north east where it is colder.
This place with sculptures was a hammam.the name is Teze Bey.
Glad you went back to the tour lady! She was super nice and will surely make a little commission. Can't wait to see the tour.
you should visit Ganja too. i visited that place and it wasinteresting. there is a scenic train the goes directly to ganja
Gabriel , Thank you for the current and past history. It is a clean city, it seems.
Those boys were so excited that you like Turkey , fun to watch their interaction with you ❣️
8:45 thank you for noticing and quick investigating about our 20th January's martyrs❤.
God bless them who standed for democracy and freedom.
Great vid Gabe!!
Looks a lot nicer than Kuwait anyway... at least to me... I'm not esthetically attuned to middle eastern deserts...
*The irony of the doner kebab, of Turkish origin, being called a Berlin, presumably because Berlin is filled with Turks, is hilarious.*
the döner is a german creation made by turks. berlin is one of the places where its believed to have started.
@@samelmudir the döner existed long before it's popularizing in Berlin. Döner Kebab meat in bread with veggies and yogurt sauce is 100% from the middle east. Heck, the Greeks have gyros, which is their version of the same dish.
I think it’s the style and type of bread. It’s also a brand name, and not name of dish. Look up German Döner Kebab.
And it’s bloody horrible in Berlin, just full of fat and grissle
@iammaxhammer done is called Berlin (brand name) because of making how it is done there.. In Turkey, they do not add many ingredients in it. They only add meat and pickles, whereas in Azerbaijan it has many ingredients like how it is done in Germany... it has onions, cucumbers tomatoes etc. in it
Great, thank you.
By the way, Gabe, as a former student of religion I thought you would like to know that the references to fire in Azerbaijan also refer to its pre-Islamic history as a center for Zoroastrianism, which was also practiced across Persia and still survives among the Parsi in India. When the tour guide a few videos back made reference to the Fire Temple "like those in India" that was what she was referring to.
Yes, the Republic of Azerbaijan was only separated from Iran in the first half of the 19th century.
Nice video bro. Hope to see you again in Baku, in LAND OF FIRE 😍
Bit bummed you're not doing the rental car adventure this time around, definitely my favourite type of your videos, especially the random stops! Hopefully the tours are good anyway.
I agree. The tours are nice, but not the same kind of adventure as having your own wheels.
The flag was Norway. Sweden flag is blue and yellow.
🇸🇪 .
Got it. 👍
@@GabrielTravelerVideos good. Thanks 😊
Baku captures your heart❤
Guess you had a good time, it was nice to see you in Baku. But little note for your information, That territory that you named as artsax, it was never independent from Azerbaijan and has never been recognized by any state, including Armenia. From Soviet Union this land was part of Azerbaijan. And internationally recognized as Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, recently liberated from the Armenian occupation that lasted for nearly 30 years.
