“We spoke out against racism, hunger, gangs, crimes, and turf wars, as we embraced all people with hope and the spirit of brotherhood. It’s just as apropos today.” - WAR
WAR, the original street band, was founded by veteran record producer Jerry Goldstein and rock legend Eric Burdon in 1969. Together with the original band members Lonnie Jordan, Howard Scott, Lee Oskar, B.B. Dickerson, Harold Brown, the late Thomas “Papa Dee” Allen, and Charles Miller, they blended many musical styles and influences. The musical laboratory that is WAR yielded 17 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, including the triple platinum ‘The World Is A Ghetto’ and double platinum ‘Why Can’t We Be Friends?’ and ‘Greatest Hits’, and hit songs "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Low Rider", "Spill the Wine", and "The Cisco Kid".
WAR began playing live shows to sold-out audiences in the 1970s and continues their commitment to being road WARriors, touring over 150 dates a year to this day.
54 years later. LEGENDARY!
Yes it is.
British blues meets American soul and the result is sublime
Reggae is coming all Up

"This really blew my mind" !
@larrybackstrom5795, this bad a** song STILL blows my mind in 2024!😎🥁😎🎸🎷🎹🎺
I love Eric with War. The flute player is the best. Reminds me of Ian Anderson
One of the best songs from the 70's.
That's a really high bar.
@@NormAppleton❤
Wasnt it 60s?
@@bobbiewallace4008just barely 70s. Recorded January 2nd-4th of 1970. So definitely with 60s instruments.
The flute playing is phenomenal. The song is one of my all time favourites.
War's beats are timeless...
“And she raised it to her lips”… background Spanish girl “y esa mujer”…translation “and that woman”… always got me with a big smile
Santaria?
Always loved the Animals, but Eric + War was a marriage made in Heaven.
This was the first Rap there ever was Hip-hop. 1960’s
❤fax
I absolutely love WAR ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️.
Hello Natalie
What's not to love? 🙂
Yeah, they knew what was up....
Damn! War's laying down groove, we just don't get any more, and Eric, WOW..... that VOICE is stunning!
hell yeah!!
Bless Alan Price for being suuuch and asshole

I'm 67 and still loving this one...nothing these days comes close.
I'm 33 and was fortunate enough to grow up with parents who listened to this era's music instead of the 90's pop that was ubiquitous in my youth.
Coming up on 64, man, my brother ❤
Ron Burgundy jammed with everyone back in the 70’s. It was a glorious time!
😂
I will always remember when VH1 Classic became a thing, and my dad was watching, and this song came on. He hollered for me and I fell in love with it. By the end, I was singing along with him in our living room! My dad is so awesome! I remember War doing a little concert at a Kansas City Royals game, my dad took me and my brother. This song started and we lost our minds!
Your dad sounds cool. Surely this concert was way after the release of the song though?
Dope
I think your dad must have been the best! My dad loved watching documentarys he would call for me 2 come & make me sit just saying actual footage actual footage pointing at it. Its real life look its actual footage.
Love this song. I can hear every instrument being played. Amazing!
Yes - the production is astounding. Hearing this on the radio and never knowing for YEARS who it was until UA-cam - (I had guessed it was Van Morrison - which was a good guess - but of course didn’t help me find it - ) hearing it on a car radio I never NOTICED the overdubs of the woman speaking Spanish. This is brilliant and obviously intended for hearing while open-top driving through south LA. - beats out even the great “low rider” on that count.
Happy 420 everyone!
When I first heard this, I imagined the singer to be a smooth black guy, I never thought the singer would have been a scruffy geordie!
Maybe bc you were too young to know Eric from the Animals?
Happy birthday this year Brother Eric VICTOR Burdon!!! ❤Eric’s favorite song 🎶 ever!!!❤
This song is my sister Loretta's who passed 2020. I miss and love you sis.
😢🙏
This whole album is fantastic! I still own it. I'm 67yrs old. My kids grew up hearing it. Remember Tobacco Road? Talkin bout road, road, road! Oh yeah!
This song stirred my imagination, because the first time I heard it was in Summer of 1975, while getting ready to go to work. High noon, with a few wispy clouds in the Texas sky the only thing missing was the field of grass, and various women all about. Eric Burdon, dropped out of WAR in 1971 after a bout of exhaustion from touring. WAR moved on, Burdon became a solo artist and the rest is history.
@ Joe Goodley I was a 6 year old Texan in 1975 I still live less than 25 miles from wear I growed up at in Keller Tx .
Always loved that song.
I remember playing this song for my Dad on the radio way back in the 60's and he just laughed!I had no idea it was the same guy who sang House of the rising Sun!
I realize as we get older, our memory gets a little foggy and that was really a long time ago but FYI, "Spill the Wine" wasn't released until 1970. Hope that bit of information makes you feel just a little younger. lol BTW, The Animals recorded "House of the Rising Sun" in 1964... Long long time ago...

The first (and only) time I tripped on LSD-25 in 1970 was to this song (LP version) played non stop for over for 15 hours straight with a New York girl I had just met. A very interesting time in my life :)
If I could give 100 thumbs up I would
This is a MASTERPIECE. ROCK n ROLL IS DEAD.
Especially the flute. /sarc
You’re so right! This song is amazing and they don’t make um like this anymore. But I am so grateful for UA-cam and the people who keep it alive.
you clearly don't listen to enough music if you think rock n roll is dead
I had a dream I was in a Hollywood movie listening to War and Eric Burdon😊
Trippy as Hell! I sang this for my son, and he fell out of his chair.😂
This song always calms my soul and makes me want to have a picnic with wine 🍷

Eric Burden was with the Animals!! Wow !!~ Thank you for the Info!! Rock n Roll and all that JAZZ!!
Eric Burdon was the Lead singer of Animals
EVERYBODY loved this tune!!! They played this at least 6 times a day on the AM that I remember.
This song exists in some temporal void where it feels like its eight minutes when somehow its only four
(Thats a good thing)

I first heard this when my dad had to drive me to a school project. This song at 4:50 in the morning hits different
I miss the family I had while I was growing up. now that i'm of the age to want to learn and understand their wisdom, they're all gone or have distanced themselves. this song evokes such a strong feeling of a golden age that i just barely missed.

When I first heard this, I thought he was saying "Still the one! Take that, girl!"
Yeah I thought he was saying "Dig that girl"
I always thought it said… Feel the Wine, take that girl. Not once in the whole song did I ever hear the word “pearl”… It was always GIRL. I won’t tell you how old I was before I figured this out. 😂
Listening from Yucatan

Something compelled me to listen to this great song just now. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
Grade 7 Puberty and This Song !
A true slice of heaven I must say. Especially while I enjoy some fine cigars with cold ones. 😉
Song never ceases to rock - every time !
I was thirteen, in a car with my buddy, my mom left the car on while she went into the store. This song came on, and I turned to him and said, we need to try smoking weed. He agreed.
Ami this really blue my mind.

The 70s must have been a great time with tunes like this🫨 I can only imagine the times my dad had cruising!
The 70s were the 'Golden Age' of music
Only boomers remember that palisades park had mega speakers throughout the amusement park and I always associate palisades park with spill the wine which they blasted on one of my days spent there. There will never be a time and place like palisades park in the 60's and 70s.
What a great song. Listening to this right after work as I go home and I feel like I'm tripping on drugs! So good!
Ha yeah totally
