Song Lyrics:
Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me around
I feel numb, born with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun
The less we say about it, the better
We'll make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground, head in the sky
It's okay, I know nothing's wrong, nothing
Hi-yeah, I got plenty of time
Hi-yeah, you got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money, always for love
Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight
Home is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did I find you or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be, where I'll be
Hi-yeah, we drift in and out
Hi-yeah, sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home and
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me 'til my heart stops
Love me 'til I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots, hit me on the head, I go
Ooh

That is so cool to read. I'm 42 almost 43, love this song, such a good vibe. Great tune!
I'd be honored if some Talking Heads fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal UA-cam performance of THIS MUST BE THE PLACE (re-interpreted as a ballad) in tribute to one of the most unique & iconic bands of the late 70s/early 80s era. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and stay safe.
I am not sure they knew 40 years ago how iconic this song would become. Today, this song still sounds as new as it was back then. What a band!!!!!!
Exactly.
Those were bodhisattva, lots of bodhisattva having life here
Moves me to sentimental and nostalgic tears for youth...

This song is epic and changed my life. The fact this exists is absolutely amazing.

This song reminds me of an older friend that passed several years ago. He used to play this album when we worked together. For a long time after he passed, I kept thinking that I’d seen him on the street. Somebody wearing his cap, walking like him, or the back of a slightly balding head. I’d have recurring dreams about him coming back. I listen to this song occasionally and it brings back all the fond memories of him. Miss you, Chris.
I started reading this message and I stopped half way through as it made me sad and I didn’t even know your friend. But after a minute I realised just how nice it is that you obviously thought very highly of your friend and you had a great friendship. Music is eternal
Thanks for sharing. In a weird way this story brought me some happiness and relief even though it's contextually sad.
I think it was him, saying hi from the other side, and letting you know he’s thinking of you too.
I think our love for each other is all that matters
Love ur story my dude.. same thing with my homie jake aka tame we would party hang out everything and we would be chilling partying usually by ourselves at the end of the night and he was a huge talking heads fan and this was his song and to be quite honest never heard of it till jake and he just passed away a year ago due to a overdose I miss my brother so much even thru all the bullshit and drama we had at the end of our friendship my love has grown stronger for him passing away wish I had one more talk or just to see his smile and him to tell me go fuck yourself love you dude just one more time! Hopefully Chris and Jake are rocking heavy wherever there at jamming out to this waiting for our time to come see em again.. peace love and success for many lifetimes my friend! 🕊️🙏🏽🕊️🙏🏽🕊️🙏🏽🕊️🙏🏽🕊️

Play this at my funeral.
Hardest thing on video is to transmit naturalness... this one went unfairly unnoticed: it is wonderful, for an incredible song by an amazing band
4:03 the way he shoved that food in his mouth. SAVAGE!
A good friend introduced me this song, sadly his funeral is next week, this song will be forever embedded in my brain. When the music just means more.

@@laurynjade79 nah it was about a woman lol
@@laurynjade79 lol the egg on your face. ‘Talking Heads lead singer David Byrne has called this "a very personal love song," and has said it was written about a specific person, likely Adelle Lutz, a costume designer he had recently met. The couple married in 1987 and had a daughter named Malu before divorcing in 2004.’

This song gives me sheer happiness. No other piece of music makes my whole soul shiver with utterly great feelings of joy like this one. I'll forever be grateful to Talking Heads for creating this masterpiece.

Most poetic beautiful saying ever.
I was introduced do this song when I was 17, I’m a few weeks shy from my 25th. This songs somehow explains all the things I wish I could say out loud. “I’m just an animal looking for a home.” I cry and I cry to that lyric. I have friends who are getting married and those who are having children. I’m so conflicted about the things I want but am not ready for. I don’t even have a lover who truly understands me. I want someone to truly and deeply love me. I desperately plead to be loved hard.
I know how you feel. Im still an animal, nearly 42 years old. Take it easy, you will get it. Greetings from 🇦🇷
The most multi cultural band I’ve seen
Song makes me simultaneously happy and sad!

Jesus. This song is everything.
Yes...I think you nailed it. ❤
My favorite Talking Heads song of all time, brings so many good memories of my friends. The Talking Heads were geniuses at making songs that made sense of feelings that don’t make sense.
I think this has to do in part with David Byrne being on the autism spectrum! He views the world in a quite a different way. I’m also on the spectrum and his music has deeply resonated with me since I was a kid.

The Talking Heads is one of my favorite bands of all time!! Nothing quite like a bunch of people just stimming and vibing together. Truly a group of people who found their “tribe.” I want that for myself more than anything. Just putting it ✨out there✨

I've instructed my husband that I want THIS recording played at my memorial. It has brought me joy from the first day I heard it in college..and I was relatively late to the "Talking Heads". I know lyrics are open to interpretation beyond what the artist may have intended -- but for me this song has always been about celebrating the circle of life and the power of love. "If someone asks, this is where I'll be."

There's something so haunting about the line, "I guess I must be having fun".....idk why I've always thought that
It didn’t occur to me to buy the “Speaking in Tongues” LP back in 1984; I was 14 and only just getting into music. The “Burning Down the House” video was played constantly on MTV, but I don’t remember this video being played at all. I would know; I watched MTV all the time. I first heard this song over the end credits of the movie “Wall Street”, which I didn’t see in a theater but probably rented sometime in the late ‘80s. I immediately recognized it as a Talking Heads song and wondered how I had missed it.
I didn’t even know this song had a music video
