Sounds like an 18-wheeler!
Sounds like he used a bluetooth mic and set it inside of his airbox while he filmed inside the car lmao that's nuts
He did. It says “mic in the engine bay” 😂
The Injen system works well too. 👌
I just made essentially the same thing from old intercooler pipes and couplers I had lying around for my TDI, and it definitely sounds a lot better, but can't hear much over 60kph, gonna make an exhaust up for it I think
I just got a TDI and I was scared of the way it sounds but now I know lmao
its taken a while for my gf to understand
I love the sound of a tdi, but alh takes the cake for injector noise
The knock of a diesel is still unsettling sometimes. I’m used to my 2.0supercharged as and the swap to the 2.0tdi is a steep learning curve.
Just buy isolation bro its much better
I thought I confidently knew the sound of a diesel until I drove into a drive thru and the sound echoing from the wall convinced me I was loosing my motor. Thankfully I’m just a paranoid person that’s still learning the diesel game. Can’t wait for my delete+hoodstack+tune
hello i have a 320d and i want to get a 76mm piping from turbo straight in front and get air from bumper and grilles, you think that will work with the sensors? will i get cool noises and performance?
why in my golf 6 tdi 140hp both with the direct filter and with the panel filter.. do I feel no difference from the original one? your sound is beautiful!!
I used an APR carbonio intake in my 2.5 5 cylinders golf wagon and it sounds dope
it will lose power.
your car doesnt have a intercooler so you will be putting hot air in your engine. hot air holds less oxygen.
its a dumb thing to do on a NA car or car without aftermarket intercooler.
I put a K&N box filter in place of the OEM paper one and you can hear the turbo spool and it runs a lot better at the low end. I’m a big fan of box filters as they are already piped for cold air. Unless you put a vent on the hood your gonna get hot air in any intake. My opinion
I definitely agree the factory box gets far colder and better air. Just did this for the heck of it lol
@@AJLoDato22 they do sound really cool 😎
@@dirf554 open aur intakes arent bad if you run them with a big intercooler. if you run them on a na car or a turbo car without intercooler then you will get alot less horsepower.
I agree with this guy👆🏼
Getting hot air in your intake is called heat soaking and is only relevant when the car is at a stand still and thus primarily affects your 0-60 times, once the car is on the move, heat soaking is no longer relevant.
AJ great work, please keep it up, more videos about vw passats please, really impressed!!
Was trying to buy one of this and it is not instock anymore. Anyone could find one of these in Australia???
Nice buddy. I went with a S&B intake that’s fully enclosed and got a filter wrap to help extend the life of filter between cleaning. Car has 160k miles on it just had my compressor wheel explode haha. Car is back running again but love the car 48 mpg with a Kerma TDI tune and banks catback exhaust 👍
Woah that’s an awesome build. At 160k she’s got a lot of life left in her too 😎
That sounds amazing I’m convinced that I need to get one🥵
10/10 recommend. Makes the driving experience much much better.
Not available anymore 😢 was ready to buy
Just got one on my Volvo 2.0 5pot diesel it’s insane same as my vag car before not much difference with the windows down but up inside it’s great

Hey AJ ! I was watching your videos, I have a 2012 golf tdi too and I love to see people making tdi videos still. Hey how did you find the black color on Amazon? It seems there’s only a silver on the link
Hey Miguel! I checked too and it looks like they are sold out of the black.
@@AJLoDato22 hey what’s the Cold air intake name I’m looking for the exact same one
Excellent vid.
I’ve been wanting to get this for my tdi but they are still out of stock lol. Still solid luck with not throwing a code?
I actually sold the car, but the new owner has no complaints thus far with it.
I love my 2015 VW Golf S TDI. I have experienced a HUGE amount of trouble with my dealershit in Denver area. I take my car to Diesel Land and have nothing but positive experiences with doing this. The Dealershit can suck it.
The dealers have been nothing but trouble for me.
Dealershit?
I think you mean Stealershit?
🤣
Is there another link or somewhere else I can find this… you Amazon link says unavailable😢 ..I really want this thank you and great video
AJ, did you have a wire and cloth hose, about 1 1/2" in diameter, that connected to your air box also? It would have been on the lower back, right under the MAF. I see they took care of the vacuum line, but did not see you do anything with what I call a "preheat" feed into the airbox. It looks like this preheated air comes from the turbo/exh. manifold area, and into the ABox right under the MAF. Please let me know.
I just looked it up and am not too sure what a preheat feed is. I also looked in the car and do not see any line of this sort. Sorry man!
you’re exactly right, I believe that leads to what’s called a swirl flap, that does just that, it leads warmer air from the hot side of the engine into the intake for a faster warm up process upon start up and until you’re at operating temp.
how do you get the choo noise from the car, thank you
Subscribed for not making ffwd thru video for sounds
Will they ever have them for sale again?
Just get a full hornet exhaust 125quid cheap and sounds unreal and a racingline intake those 2 together are madness
If anyone knows where to get this model, let me know. After searching ebay, amazon, and a few other. These are out of stock
I have seen some intakes do that
Just got a 2.0 TDI for my first car might have to try this 😂👀
It’s an awesome car - you’ll love it. Easy to mod too!
Where can I find the kit ? It's amazing
AJ, I just put one in then found your post. Lol...quick question...what did you do with that 1 1/2" opening that went to the stock box?
I took a look at the car and am not sure which opening you are referencing. There’s a plastic hose that goes to the lower side of the stock box which I took off.
that’s the swirl flap that it leads to. It leads to the back of the engine where the air is hotter for quicker warming upon start up and warm up. I assume it shuts after it’s at op temp.
Is the same for the yeti 2.0L tdi?
Hi is the turbo hissing normally hiss like that, Iv just bought a dsg t6 it makes the same noise sounds like a boost leak?
My golf gt tdi turbo hisses and its a new turbo.
I would say the rubber rings go in the metal plate u installed bit fiddly to get in but that's where thay go 😎😎
Did your Jetta come turboed stock? I’m looking to turbo my mk4 2.0L sedan (not diesel) and am tryna find a decent turbo kit to slap on lol any recommendations?
Yeah the diesels (mine) come stock turbo’d. I wish I knew some kits for the gas engine but I’m not too sure which are good. Best to look at forums.
I’m not very familiar with the 2.slows but I don’t think they can hold boost.
@@ParkerGarrett5 borg warner makes a turno for the 2.0 mk4 engine
Any problems yet with it? Over heating? Wondering if I Should get one. I have a 2013 vw jetta tdi 2.0
Nope I haven’t had any problems with it!
Couldn't you use just a super short, straight pipe and use the stock cold air intake underneath? Just an idea.
Yeah that’d probably get more airflow too honestly
Amazon doesn't have this model anymore (currently unavailable), is there another option for similar price?
It sold out a while ago and I couldn’t find any in this price range. Maybe check out eBay.
Hey I have a 2013 Audi A3 tdi, I was considering getting a short ram intake. Do you think the metal piping would mean I would actually make less power then stock?
I didn’t really notice any power gains or losses with this intake setup. It also didn’t impact my mpgs as well.
@Grant diesels are fuel controlled, not air controlled like gas engines, so the air to fuel ratio doesn't matter unless you are trying to control black smoke
Nice hot air intake!
I Got a golf 7 from 2016 1.6 TDI with 115 hp. Will that system fit and work to my car if i but it ?
Honestly I’m not too sure. I did hear these are now out of stock.
I've got a Golf V 2.0 TDI and I think it sounds great, but I'm living in Germany and I don't know if the TÜV approves modifications like this haha ... they are very strict over here
That's weird that they would obsess over just an intake, people in the US are straight piping their lawnmower civics and the cops don't care
@@burgercheeseburger That's why in Europe (and especially in Germany) cars are in far better condition ;)
@@burgercheeseburger where do they not care? its getting stricter and stricter. Even a muffler delete or lowering too much will get you a mandatory inspection
Now the questions I have are...... How much HP does it add? Does this filter actually filter the air as well as an OEM unit? I do not like or want dirt in my engine.
I really don’t think it adds any HP, I also don’t think it filters particulates as good as stock. Really just for induction sounds more than anything.
What is the hose under the MAF?? Should I leave it how it is, or should I buy a little filter for it too?? 3:42
Shoot, it has been a while since I did that install so I don’t remember. I may have left it. A little air filter is definitely safer than leaving it open
Will this fit Sciroccos
Seems good bro liking it
I see a lot of people make this mistake, your supposed to clean and re-oil those intakes at least once a month or they start to suck dirt into your engine. You might already know this but its just a friendly reminder.
Not always. If you don’t have a oiled cone filter you don’t need to re oil. Only thing you gotta do is clean it once every 30000 miles
You are NOT supposed to use an oiled filter on these engines. Congratulations, you’ve probably blown someone’s turbo and dpf with this advice.
@@celerymeat oiled filters are fine as long as you aren't a dumbass and don't over oil the thing. But I more commonly see people forget to clean their filter and the engine starts to suck dirt. Either way I don't recommend aftermarket air intakes, they just cause more problems and hardly give much of a performance boost.
In the meantime a few days after putting this cai on the dpf went and egr was clogged due to not deleting
Is your golf straight- or downpiped or something else? He sounds very good, i ask only because i have an original exhaust and i wann to know when i buy this Filter that Is the Sound the same
*want
My exhaust was bone stock, so yours should sound the same.
@@AJLoDato22 Thank you bro
How is this classed as cold air intake? No heat shields no cold air directed at the filter and steel pipe work. May make an interesting noise but zero power gains and not as good as OEM filter box, in my opinion🤔
Honestly I agree ☝🏼. Good noises but stock is probably better.
Hey bro just found your video
Quick question is did it improve your car's performance by a little?
I think mentally I thought it did, but in all actuality the performance stayed pretty much the same.
The new intake itself is less restrictive. In theory, without tune, it will help with pulling more air efficiently, and the ecu will compensate the air/fuel ration through the air mass going through the MAP and MAF sensors. But, without simple tune like APR/IE/Revo stage 1, 1+, 1.5 tune, it wont adjust it to make more power. The metal, I assume standard SS304 powder coated will definitely hold more heat which is bad for short run city to city because the intake don't have enough time to cool it back down.
Probably for the budget mod, might as well replace the pod with K&N air filter or something more cheaper but reputable. Can never trust some unnamed oem air filter, especially if you putting it on turbo.
Can you fit a intake without any mods or engine map and get some extra HP?
I don’t think you’ll push any more HP with just an intake.
@@AJLoDato22 I had edition 30 stage 1. Evoms intake. Got me to 310 from 230. I just got another stock eddy. Feels pathetic in comparison. Don't want to map it yet as it needs some love and attention first
Did adding this onto your vehicle make it throw a code? Seen multiple reviews on this particular unit stating they had O2 codes
Nope I didn’t experience any codes with this!
Hi I need help! I just received the same cold air intake (havent installed it yet) but I have a petrol mk6 GTI and wondering if this cold air intake is only for diesel as I don't have EGR to fit that tube in .... do you think it will cause my car any problems.... also its been remapped with a downpipe ... been driving it for 1year and feel like it needs this cold air for more power
I wish I could help, but I’m unsure about this intakes compatibility with other models/engines. Also the power gain is likely to be minimal without other supporting mods - tune/exhaust/bigger turbo.
@AJ LoDato ill just have to install it and see what happens thanks
@@Manest3272 how is it
Does anyone know where to get these now? They seem to be gone off the entire internet. Thanks
I’m having the same problem. Can’t find it anywhere, if you find it let me know and I’ll do the same for you if I find it first
Where would i get just the filter part and not the whole unit ?
You can order filters pretty easy offline. Just match the bore size of the intake pipe it’ll go on.
Do I need to get my car tuned after I instal this cause I have a muffler delete and it’s already running Rich
I’m honestly not too sure with both mods if you’d need to. I’d check out some forums.
That metal piping is going to hold heat. You will make better power off your stock box.
Definitely agree. More in it for sounds than power.
Doesn’t matter when it goes through an intercooler anyway.
GrimmGuy so there’s no effect on the intercooler after putting in more heat than it would normally see?
@@michaelgayford2439 remember air temps aren't constant. Intercooler generally will kill off the bit of extra heat easily
If its aluminum nit really. Heat wrap is a smart idea anyways
hmm... my MK6 GTD makes "shotototo" -sound, when I installed CAI.
Question, I got the same intake for my tdi, the lil hose that’s under the big intake hose, what did you do with that as the intake don’t have a spot for it? I just left mine hanging lol but wondering what it’s for or what I should do with it
Someone else was wondering the same, but honestly that was too long ago for me to remember. My apologies!
@@AJLoDato22 no prob lol it looks like you just left it like I did haha thanks for responding :)
2.0 tdi vw touran?
did you get rid of the hood damper or whatever its called that attached to the inside of your hood?
Do you mean the hood insulation? I didn’t remove that at least.
@@AJLoDato22 Yeah the insulation. Mine is kinda falling apart and and its getting all in my engine bay
@@kylewoods923 I actually ended up selling the car, but from my recollection I actually think the hood insulation was removed.
Did you ever get a check engine light after running the intake?
Nope no check engine lights
@@AJLoDato22 how long have you had this on with no CEL
Is it safe to use that filter ?. Wont it get dust into engine easier?
The filter is safe, but it definitely has a higher chance of getting dust into the engine compared to a factory filter box.
keep the filter well oiled.
Would this be possible with a 2013 beetle tdi? If so I definitely wanna do it!
Also do you need custom exhaust to get this sound or just the cold air intake?
Just the cold air intake. I had a stock exhaust. I am sure they have intakes for those as well!
You should have the full exhaust on any TDI. My passat runs the same engine. A full delete and upgrading to 4" straight pipe gave me a noticeable power boost, 35-50 mpg increase and it sounds way better.
doing dpf+egr delete and map? would give you better performance + more mpg!
If I keep the car, that’ll be the route I go. More power & more mpg’s!
Less* mpg
@@zizogaucho9035 no, its less fuel consumption because of higher combustion temperatures which makes it more effective. So it will be less fuel per power.
@@PERLaLIFE i tried it, but it got worse. Power increased, but mpg no.
@@zizogaucho9035 It obviously depends on how you drive it, if you use the extra power then the consumption will go up.
What is the name of the kit, And for what car did you buy it for. Because I want to buy it.
It’s a no name cold air intake off of Amazon. On a diesel VW golf
Remember the 🎤 is in the bonnet not inside the car. So obviously it’s going to make the sound much better, show a video with the 🎤 inside the car with you. To know how it really sounds
Agreed. Check out my follow up video where I show both under the hood and in the cabin sounds!
Do you have to do any other modifications or tuning or can you just put an intake on?
Nope I didn’t have a tune, just the intake. No other mods needed for this one
@@AJLoDato22 sweet. Thanks.
Hello ! If i do this on a VW 1.6 TDI, will i have the same sound ?
I would assume something similar!
Those air filters with the little metal piece in the center of the cone kill turbos. That little metal piece will come unglued and will fall into the turbo and destroy it.
It won't get past the maf sensor bud, the maf on these have say a plastic grill, it helps create less turbulent air enter the turbo but in this sense will stop this happening also
Doesn't it lag? Ive installed k&n induction kit and it lags
Yeah min does too
Would it work and sound the same on a 1.6 tdi
I’m not too sure about fitment, but I’d assume a similar sound.
Mintttt 👌
Did this give you any check engine lights ??
Nope I haven’t experienced any check engine lights from it.
AJ LoDato ok cool I’m gonna order one then
If you like turbo spool, you’ll love it. Sounds like a mini power stroke lol.
AJ LoDato ok sweet that’s all I want just turbo sounds
My opinion diesels don’t care about hot or cold air, my opinion they preffer hot air. I notice that when my engine is warmed up and hot it is more efficient…
Cold air means more air but at the same time it’s not that much more air and the engine still runs better with warm air.
If its a newer TDI, it has a liquid cooled intercooler. Keeps my intake 32°F no matter how hot the engine or outside air is.
Removing the stock snorkel and airboxin favor of a traditional “cold air” I take is actually worse than the stock setup in multiple ways. For one cold air intakes on turbo cars is practically useless considering IAT’s in turbo cars aren’t going to be impacted by the I take considering the turbo is going to increase the temps to about the same temp regardless. Also these cheap “cold air” intakes usually forego the stock snorkel and airflow from the grill and end up just sucking in the heat soaked engine bay air. Also these intakes don’t tend to stay as clean for as long without a box and are slightly harder to replace than a good drop in filter.
I understand you’re looking for the sound but once you get past that stage in your life you’ll realize which mods are worth it snd which aren’t.
I tend not to spend tons of money on my cars anymore because I got sick of dropping tons of cash on depreciating assets only to look at my cars in the garage because I’m too afraid to drive them often on shitty NE roads after the tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours of work I put into them.
In the end it was a fun phase of my life and maybe I’ll return to it someday. But for now I’m all about practicality and just doing slight modifications to give my vehicles some tasteful mods like some nice OEM+ wheels with good tires and some coil overs and suspension bushings not too low though. Some performance mods like typical bolt ons and a tune and lastly, some exterior and quality of life mods like a few OEM+ aero bits, tint, rain guards, Etc. I’ve found that doing mods with just a slight focus on reliable performance and handling and the rest just tasteful OEM+ mods and quality of life stuff is the perfect balance between still making your car yours and making it better but without dumping tons of cash and work and ultimately making it harder to drive and sell.
I agree with your first paragraph. I did this more for the driving experience, knowing it is worse than OEM.
The beauty about the car scene is anyone can mod however they see fit. From stock to decked-out…to each their own.
What you have on your tdi just the intake or the bov?
Just an intake
Nice nice I'm planning to get mines this week I got the same exact car I got s an b cold air intake are yu planning on anything else
To install
Probably no more engine mods because the diesel gate warranty is saving me on some DPF problems. Wouldn’t want to risk the warranty. I will probably lower it, install spacers and a new head unit. I absolutely love the car though, it’s way too practical and fun to mod.
You don’t want a bov on a Diesel, just saying. It will not give you the stutututu you’re looking for. The best you can hope with increasing turbo noise from a diesel, is a cold air intake, bigger turbo, and wide open exhaust. A bov will make a difference in sound, but it’s trash. A waste of money.
How to Intake , u didn’t have any inktake pipeline (before air filter)connect to air filter
I don’t understand your question.
add a bigger air filter an remove some of the nonsense up front an its better for the car an gives you louder turbo noises
definitely not effective especially when the stock intake is piped to pull air from outside the engine bay.
When it comes to cars with intercoolers, freeing restriction matters more than ducting cold air in. The intercooler takes care of cooling the air after it passes through the compressor housing before it enters the engine…
Iat temps have been proven to be within a few degrees at manifold. The intercoolers on these is more than efficient enough to cool a slightly warmer than ambient temp. Not to mention if you live in a cold environment, warmer intake ain't gonna make me unhappy. Lol
Mate fitted a cone filter nothing really changed except losing 10mpg
Fuel mileage was unchanged with this installed
How did you get the digital mph?
It came factory within the infotainment screen.
It’s a part of the tech package, from what I understand there’s no way to enable it aftermarket
If you still have DPF/EGR keep the filter a dry filter. Do not use K&N.. Something about TDi and oil filters don't get a long. And if you have the post dieselgate tune/dpf.. and something goes cra. VW will point to the K&N.. So keep the dry filter..
I appreciate the advice man!
I have had my DPF/EGR deleted would one of these be good my my 2.0 GTD if I get it mapped at same time to make sure fuel/air/oil ratio is still good? Thanks
Will this void my warranty?
It may if they run this down as the cause for something failing. It’s really dealer dependent.
i so wanna put open air intake, but the though of the air intake sucking hot air just freaks me out
There are some higher quality intakes out there that have better heat shields if you’re worried about the hot air. Still probably worse than stock, but the turbo spool is addicting.
Look at Rawtek’s intake kit. A bit pricey but perfect for the 2.0 tdi
Do they make 2.0 tdi b7 Passat downpipes?
Looks like they do. I found a couple online from a quick search.
where can i find the kit ?
I’m not sure it’s in stock. A lot of folks are struggling to find it.
Metal=HEAT
Haha yeah it’s more of a hot air intake.
what will this be like on my 1.6tdi ?
I am not sure. I am honestly only familiar with the 2.0tdi.
It will sound the same on the 1.6 tdi
has it helped you on gas mileage any ? I tend to get 30 - 35 miles to the gallon in my tdi
It honestly didn’t impact the gas mileage at all. I average about 38 with our without it.
And I also bought it hoping it would, as an intake helped my truck. Didn’t do the trick for this car.
How? I average 45 in my passat
What is the name on the air intake?
It’s a no-name brand. Just generic off of eBay or Amazon.
Did you notice a power bump? Or not really?
I didn’t notice a power bump, but my mind definitely thought it was faster from the better sounds lol
Too bad this went out of stock. Anyone know of a similar one? (Might just weld one up myself, but this price point is hard to beat.)

Literally all open air intakes a.k.a "cold air intakes " are Hot air intakes. The Oem factory system provides the best cold air. The aftermarket air intakes at best will give you more noise like hearing Turbo sounds, but will do nothing anywhere else.
