In this video we walk through the installation process of a Rawtek Eco DPF Delete kit. We are using a 2011 VW Jetta Sportwagen, but this will be an almost identical install on an Audi A3. Removing the stock system takes some help, and we'd recommend you have someone else on standby to assist when needed. As always we did this on the ground, and that can make certain steps particularly difficult. We'll link the kit & the instructional PDF below to follow along. You'll also see we ended up cutting out parts, this is due to A. Time and B. a lack of wanting to ever reinstall this stuff. The DPF is tucked between the firewall and the block, which means putting it back whole might be harder than taking it apart. Even still, Rawtek does offer a rebate for sending your stock system in, however we found a licensed scrapper who came and took the DPF and cat off our hands for half the cost of the delete. Performance feels great, and is night and day difference when it comes to overall drivability. There is some room to be desired for exhaust noise, as the in-cabin volume has almost zero change from stock. We've already ordered a 3" cutout that should provide us the full experience WHEN we want it.

Awesome video man this helped me out a bunch when I was installing my eco kit , kept going back to this video as a reference, one thing I did different , instead of popping the axle out I added 3 1/2 inch drive extensions on my impact and took the lower dpf bracket off, made it a lot easier to pull it out after the bracket was removed , anyways thanks again 🙏
Thanks for the video. Followed this for installing my delete kit from Ecodiesel Owners Canada. Same process for everything on the removal. I didn’t cut the old dpf. Disconnected the axle and the wishbone. Placed a floor jack under the front of the transmission and pivoted the dpf out. Install the new exhaust has less attachment locations and the new mid pipe has to be cut to length on the Jetta. Happy turbo noises!
How long did it take for your kit to come in?
@@whodatboiwhodisis7076 I think it was one week
yeah dont cut it. you can sell them for money hah
@ericmartinez5633 scrap value doesn’t change cut or not
@@theoegarage not scraping. selling the dpf for use again some people buy them on the forums
Great video! I did this job this last summer, on my 2012 Golf The instructions RawTek supply are great. The only thing I did differently than your video, which I think most people would not want to do, is unbolt the axle. If you remove the wishbone connector (can see it at about the 13 minute mark) between the engine and the transmission, then you can use a little jack to rock the engine forward a bit on its mounts. This creates just a bit more room for the DPF to slide right out. Keep up the good work!
Those dog bone bolts are TTY and should only be used once unless specified otherwise
yup. and they are cheap@@RoFKillaBacon
@pzarelli75 Just a quick question about your delete. I have a 2012 golf as well and I’m looking at the eco kit and the stage 2 tune. Just curious if that’s the route you went and how everything ran after it was done
@@brianayer it was fairly easy. Just follow the instructions from Rawtek. I am handy, but no mechanic. It took me 2 sessions over 2 days. I went slow to make sure I wasn’t messing up. Taking the DPF out was not too bad. I had to use a small grinder to cut the bolt bracket off the DPF, but then I just jiggled and rotated until it came out maybe in 5 minutes! Pro Tip: cold beer waiting!
The video I liked the best was some young Canadian kid working on it in his shop. I will try to find it.
Do the delete work, then perform/have someone else perform the tune. If was to do it over, I would go full straight pipe. It is cheaper to do it the first time, rather than go back and just buy the final piece of tail pipe.
@@RoFKillaBacon that’s right! Order a new one as part of the equipment list

Can’t thank you enough for making this video. Just did this install and it went great!
Awesome to hear!
Yes excellent video, very helpful. Thanks for putting this video up.
This helped me tremendously! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for this video! Very helpful!
Glad it helped!
I’m doing the timing right now and this is next. I’m just gonna cut the bottom end off and drop it out the side

Thank you
No problem! Hope it helps 👍🏻
Good stuff brother.
Great video. All up, how long do you think it took to do?
And sorry for my ignorance, this is my first video of yours but is yours the 1.6L or 1.9L?
Great video! I was looking for a video on the eco kit. I drove mine daily and don't want it to be obnoxious. I just want the MPGs. I have a DSG JSW and it gets like 33-35 average. But I also drive 75-80 lol
Thank you! Hopefully the video helps! Manual trans, 75-80 typically, up to 38 typical. I’m already in the 40’s with the eco kit and it drives so much easier!
@@theoegarage if I could get to 40 I'd be thrilled! I was more worried about the noise level. Doesn't sound too bad
It’s barely there! In cabin there’s almost no change, and when you have your windows down you can here a little turbo whistle!
@@theoegarage I like a little noise, I would worried about cabin drone mostly. Is it possible to get the DPF out without cutting it? Incase it for some reason has to go back in 🙄
You can get it out without cutting it. You generally have to lower the front subframe to get enough room to do that though. Most of the reason we cut this one off was the general space limitations on the ground, mixed with the general impact of NY salt on everything we were working with.
Great video. Appreciate it. Once you get the updated tune back. Do I have to wait until I install all the hardware and remove DPF and EGR before uploading the new tune?
I would yes
Thanks for explaining the uninstall and install. Mine was a little different but more or less the same. I'm at the point of birthing the DPF. Which sensor goes in the pipe I'm going to install? Also, the axle popped out, what is the best method to getting it back in line with the engine?
Shouldn’t be too hard to stuff that axle back up there, as far the sensor I believe it’s the orange connector that goes into the new downpipe.
Hi, couple questions. Orange n brown plugs do they go back on the downpipe? And what about the top o2 sensor? Where does it goes?
I plan on doing the rawtech with high flow cat.
Nice job, camera work, and commentary. Anything you’d do different looking back? Have you had do change anything since the mods?
Thanks! And not that I can think of! I’ve been happy with the setup, the cutout gives me volume when I want it, and keeps it low profile when it needs to be. Car is way more fun to drive
@@theoegarage how’s the smell? That’s what I worry about. That school bud nasty diesel stench
There is an odor. Not generally an issue for the driver if routing through the stock muffler, but if the wind throws it in the cab it’s gonna smell like a diesel lol
Looks like you CEL is on. I thought Tunezilla removed these? Or was it on for something else?
How did this affect your gas mileage? Thank!
It comes off after awhile, I get about 43mpg now.
@@theoegarage what did you get for mileage before.
About 34 give or take
Thanks so much for this. I’m having a lot of codes after perfectly following the instructions. The brown plug? Did we ever figure out if we leave it unplugged? No spot for the sensor to plug in. Also I’m getting a flashing glow plug light. Thanks.
You were able to tune the car successfully?
His buddy must've flown out the window mid drive lol
Great video! I’m getting ready to do this on my 2014 tdi. One thing confuses me, does the stage 2 tune from flashzilla require the DSG tune as well? If so do I have to take it to a pro for that?
Stage 2 from Tunezilla does require DSG tuning, but it can all be done with flashzilla
Did you just put the egr cooler rear block off plate on? Ir did you take the whole egr valve and tube out?
Notice any slippage of the clutch yet? I think this is the perfect setup for my Jetta and the noise won’t piss off the wife when I make her drive it cause the Tahoe is too expensive to drive lol
No slippage on the clutch! They say stage II is good without a clutch upgrade. The car feels so much better to drive, it has the power in all gears and just feels RIGHT! The exhaust is barely noticeable minus some nice start turbo spool and low rpm spool sounds.
@@theoegarage sounds good man. I’m still debating between that setup and the KermaTDI setup without the deletes. The cost of the deletes + tune is the only thing killing me at almost $2k but I know it’s better for the longevity of the engine deleting all the bullshit.
Anh trouble passing inspection?
You definitely shouldn’t be driving this on the road if you delete it, especially not with a Stevenson tune 👀
@@theoegarage people lacking sensibility ruin things for those of us who do things stealthy...
This one time, at band clamp
Nice ! Thanks is for the vid. Just hit a pothole with my son’s Jetta and trying to get this done. Btw where do you live, looks beautiful there!
Southern Tier of NY, near the Finger Lakes 👍🏻
So your car passes the emission test when plugged in? Cause I too live in southern tier NY and wanted to know if I could do this to escape the crappy dpf problems.
I'm East of you guys. I'm still in NY and was going to possibly do this in a 2011 sport wagon. I am concerned about not passing inspection. I'm just wondering how other NY folks are making out with inspection.
You will need another tune for inspection day, google monitors ready tune 🤫
Did you delete the egr as well and if your did
Are the block off plates necessary ?
when trying to re bolt the axel back in. i have a decent gap between the joint and trans. how do i adjust this back?
Aren’t you in limp mode? Yesterday I removed my dpf the same way as you and now I’m in limp mode , did you somehow remove it or how is it?
Did you tune the car as well? I haven’t had a single issue with limp mode or really anything.
@@theoegarage oh no I didn’t tune it I just removed the dpf and last time I did egr delete it went to limp mode and also lost power BUT yesterday I chatted with some tuners website and they said their tune will do emissions delete and it will remove my limp mode so I’ll go head and get a stage 2 tune
that sounds awesome. I am debating if I can do this myself, or if I should just sell the car and get a gas powered one. I have VW passat TDI 2014, adblue heater problem starting to develop and I think I would rather just invest in complete delete kit. But one question. If you drive in a large city that has emissions check points at on ramps will they catch it? I live in an area that does not have that. Tx panhandle. But if I ever took a trip to DFW or Houston it might be an issue.
Yeah there’s no getting away from that, it would be caught
ad blue heater is a easy fix . part in around 200 bucks and couple of hrs max.
How do u go about NY inspections? Do they check the emissions?
Perfect timing for this. Just got my rawtek kit! About how long would you say it took to do the mechanical part of it?
I think you have a fast route and a slow route. The fast route I would say give yourself a day, and be happy to finish in maybe 3-5 hours. This means cutting off a lot like we did. If you want to keep everything solid with no cutting, I would think 6-8 hours with the potential for more if things are stuck.
@@theoegarage gotcha. Yea i have a full saturday and sunday reserved. Andddd i have a lift and all tools they say i should need. Plus a handful of friends. So fingers crossed it ends up being under 8 hours 🤣.

@@theoegarage went super easy took around 4 hours having some drinks 😂. We dropped the subframe some and it made my life a million times easier.
@@SuperNutmonkey did you take it in to get an alignment afterwards?
Did you have to do anything to the tuner prior to installing on the car?
You just download the modified tune from rawtek, then plug it into the car.
Just did this and on my downpipe the orange plug doesn't fit
For some reason it's too small
Did you have to email rawtec to the eco tune or was it install in the handheld when you purchased it?
You download your stock tune, email it to rawtek, and they send the modified tune back in a few days
@@theoegarage ok thanks!! Great vid btw!
No problem, and thank you!
Cheaper on Malones website…
I will say the kit is very pricey. Stage one tune and full strait pipe is $2,700 us dollars. But looking at just replacing the stock exhaust with new dpf system is roughly the same cost. Just a wee bit cheaper.
I honestly wouldn’t recommend full straight pipe either. Stick with stock muffler and install a cutout like I did if volume is desired.
@@theoegarage well in my state there are no inspections and no noise desible limits either. My only worry is cabin drone. If it isn't louder than a hub bearing buzzing that's going out. I think I can manage. Ps. I replaced the hub bearing..lol. But it was quite loud when I bought the car..
So what do we do with the brown plug that is disconnected at minute 8:38, next to the orange plug? I can only find references to unplug it in the beginning.
Thans for the video! I just did this with my old man on the shop floor in 8hrs. I am not a mechanic but i can follow directions.
If I recall this is one of the weird ones where the instructions have you disconnect it yet it needs to be plugged back in later. I remember this because while doing this job we had a moment where we both were like “well then why did we even need to disconnect that?”
You end up removing the other sensors entirely, so anything that is still there should be connected.
But it is remove from the car because the brown plug is the 2nd one on the dpf. instructions only say to reinstall the orange plug.@@theoegarage
@ 15:35 minute mark you skip right past any reinstalling of the brown plug. Does this connection get grease and tucked away?
Check my reply to your first comment, I think this gets plugged back in
Sir! Unbelievable, and thank you. This is the best video... I felt like I was 12 years old, working under the car and you were teaching me how to work on it. Great, man!
Ive got an 11 A3, 110k miles and the light came on and is staying on. It's a diesel-gate car, and just got out of warranty. So, time to straight pipe it, delete and a tune. Im a good mechanic, but I've beem dreading this, a little. But, this is easy, so thank you.
Would you do the EGR delete kit aswell, when you do this, next time? Or, leave it alone... Im thinking of the downpipe, straight pipe, EGR delete and the stage 2 with DSG. Should I be pretty well set?
Thanks for the kind words! The Rawtek kit used does in fact delete the EGR, it’s a small portion of the video but we removed the system and installed the block off plate.
Hey brother, I have a question for you. I’m in the middle of doing this right now what ports exactly go back into the downpipe and also through the exhaust
Are you referring to the connectors?
When you put the axle back together what did you torque it too and did you re use the old bolts?
Tight and yes lol. Been 23k since
May I ask, what did you mean by “download the stock tune”? Also did that flashzlla thing come with the kit or does it have to be ordered separately. Any help would be appreciated if you could do a walkthrough on that part. Thanks!
A lot of that is answered on Rawteks website. To summarize, the tuner & tune is an add-on to the delete kit. You’re paying for the tuner, and the tune services (it doesn’t come pre-loaded.) On their website they have a walkthrough of the tune process, but it’s as follows.
1. Connect tuner to your computer. Install the tuner software on your computer. It will then update the tuner.
2. Connect your tuner to your car. It will give you the option to download your cars stock tune file from the car, onto the tuner.
3. Plug tuner into computer. Download the stock tube file and send it in an email to the company.
4. Company will send you a modified tune, download that onto your tuner.
5. Plug tuner into your car and apply the modified tune.
@@theoegaragevery helpful information bro!! Thanks a lot. One more question, so once that new tune is installed. There won’t be anymore dpf light, regen light or check engine light throwing codes on the dash correct?
Correct
decent video but you skipped so much of the removal part. Im doing mine now, Rawteks instructions are terrible, They talk about some 13 mm bolt on the back of the engine I can’t seem to find it. Pictures are bad cant see half the crap they are talking about.
Don’t worry about that bolt! I didn’t remove it and everything came out fine so not sure what it was doing lol
EGR DPF DELITE 💪💪💪
Is there a gasket in between the turbo and the downpipe ? And if so can we reuse the original one
Yes
i’m confused about the tuning system, how did the whole tune process work like for instance 1. getting the tune 2. and also the flashzilla tuner where did you get it and also how did you install it on the tuner? any information helps
The tuner is an add on to your order, and it includes instructions. You download the stock tune, send it out for modification, and then receive the modified tune, which you install onto the car. You will need a PC to send and download the tune.
Two questions. How long did it take and did the tune get rid of the DPF light?
I want to do this to my '15 GSW so bad.
2k and a day of work and it's done!
Do the tunes also clear up the check engine lights for the o2 sensors? I’m new to diesels and tuning
Yes, the Malone tune will turn off the monitors so no check engine lights.
can i remove/blank the EGR on this car without removing/blanking the DPF? what could be the risk on doing this?

You’re a big boy like me. How the heck did you get under this car? Do you have all four corners on ramps? I’m wondering about jacking up the rear and putting more ramps under the back. I just can’t reach the 02 sensor at all
Fronts on ramps and rear on stands! It was rough at some points. We ended up finding a used quickjack set which was nice for the “center work” but couldn’t be used when dealing with the passenger side under tray.
The ramps up front helped keep the car predictable when bringing up the back, otherwise it’s a pain to jack up corner at a time due to where the jack points are.
The tuner out of the box does not list my sportwagen, I tried to update but it still does not show any files. Any tips?
It’s all the way at the end, you have to scroll!
What happens if you delete it without the tune. Is it just dash lights because mine is on already with the dpf.
I’m pretty sure it runs like crap without the tune. May be stuck in limp.
I read in the description that a scrapper took the old emissions system off of your hands... I was curious if you can send it back to Rawtek for a discount?
Rawtek sends you a rebate for sending them the system - it’s about 1/3 of what you’d get from a recycler.
@@theoegarage I was also curious how many mpg you gained after deleting?
@adamyoder8771 48 miles of highway-like driving and 16 miles of hilly-like driving per day results in 44-46mpg
@@theoegarage wow that's pretty awesome! What were you getting with the dpf system still intact?
@adamyoder8771 34-36 usually
how come after removing dpf there is no black smoke from your exhaust ? are you sure you have the right tune on car ?
Black smoke comes from overfueling the engine. There’s no need to do that with the stage II tune, we are going for power and efficiency. While there may be some smoke, the stock muffler is in place.
Hey man, what do you mean about getting my stock tune downloaded at 1:15? Is there a link that I can get to the exact page?
Here’s the tuning instructions! cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0637/8533/files/FLASHZILLA_GUIDE-2022.pdf?v=1636733900
Hey man sorry to comment on an older video but what is that red impact you are using? I absolutely need one.
We use a mix of tools during this lol, I think you’re referring to a Milwaukee impact! Their ratching wrench’s are really helpful too, although all my gear is Makita.
@@theoegarage yeah sorry I was referring to that Milwaukee impact.
Does this option drone? A lot of people are recommending to get the resonator.

Stage II
@OE Garage. Super helpful video. What happens to the brown EGT sensor post install? I am getting a P0544 code and Malone tune is telling me it is that EGT sensor and to plug it back in, but there is nowhere for that sensor to go or is there?????
Nolan, did you ever figure this out? I'm trying to remember where that plugged in.
For the driver side pressure sensor do I need to cap off the non hose side?
Pretty sure we just left it open to ambient air
Quiero comprar una Jetta tdi 2013 wagon, tiene 120’Mile, es para mi esposa, que opinan es buena compra por 5k oh tiene mucho uso ?
These VW’s have quite a few high dollar failure points
Anyone else have trouble with the grid heater light and check engine light coming on after the tune was installed?
A bunch of lights will be on - once you drive fir a bit they should go away.
So if i buy the kit i do need a tune do i just order the fzp tune of there website? And what stage if yes
Yes you need a tune. As far as stages, they do a good job of breaking down the stage 1-3 and what setup you have to have in order to run them on the website.
Is there a place you recommend selling the old parts to? I was offered $250 locally and feel that’s low. I can ship
Definitely low. Keep looking around. Tends to be a recycler who will travel to get jt
Did you end up finding a better deal on the sell? I’m about to order the eco kit and am curious what the goin rate is for that death can lol
I'm confused. Does it only take one EGR block off plate? The kit I ordered comes with 3
This only came with one plate. What year was your kit for?
It's a 2014
I think that’s the “MK6.5” and there’s some differences, does yours have a DEF tank?
Do you have a tools list used? Trying to figure out what I need to gather before o begin
If you have general sockets and wrenches you should be fine. The only special one you need is a 10mm triple square for the axle bolts.

How will it be to pass inspection. Does this have all the monitors bypassed to pass?
You may need secondary tuner assistance with that matter. Technically if you install these parts, you should not be driving the car on the road.
Where would i get more information on a secondary tuner,

When you are putting the axle back on do you need to use a torque wrench ?
I would yes, I also think they are TTY bolts 👀

@tannerl5607 I did not use new bolts, I believe it was 148 ft/lbs
The axle flange bolts are I think closer to 50 ft lbs, the wheel hub nut is the one that needs to be tightened to 148 ft lbs. Just clarifying for anybody who might be reading this in the future
