I saw someone do a video where they stood in a busy area with a sign that read "Convince me to read your favorite book"...it was a lot of fun to watch...I would love to see you try something like that.
This may sound strange, but I have reached for Night rereads a few times when experiencing depression. It is a perspective-shifting jolt of inspiring resilience.
Haven't been able to catch all of your recent videos, but can always catch up... Glad to see the channel is dong well, I hope to start my book channel later this fall (inspired by you). Thanks for all you're doing. Barry
I was struggling with Circe also until I hit about the halfway point, and then I suddenly flew through it!! The second half is definitely way more interesting!
If you like memoirs, I’d highly recommend when breath becomes air by by Paul Kalanithi. It’s incredibly moving, a bit of a heartbreaker and short book. I hope you’ll check it out ❤
I happen to be reading Circe, too, and I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling 😭 the audiobook has helped, but I didn't start that until I was over halfway.
Night absolutely destroyed me. One of the most harrowing, yet most wonderfully written books ever. It stayed with me for days after reading it. Unforgettable. It totally deserved the Nobel prize.
I struggled through Circe as well. It got such rave reviews that I thought maybe it was just talked up so much that my expectations were too high. But seeing you’re struggling too makes me see it wasn’t just me.
We bought 3 English cucumbers last week and have another 3 waiting in our fridge! The guy has blown up my Instagram and we’ve been trying his recipes too! The PB with chili oil was great!
I've been avoiding Circe for a while, but when I saw you were reading it this month, I thought I'd try it. I am also struggling about halfway through. I'll stick it out, though, after reading the comments.
I struggled with Circe too. M. Miller doesn’t have much original authorship. She just combined all of the Circe references from other stories into one timeline. I think i lot of people don’t realize how little of the story is her own creation.
I mean, it’s literally a retelling of a Greek mythological figure… I think a lot of people realize that about it. It’s more the way that it’s styled that makes it special. It’s fine. You didn’t like it, but that doesn’t mean that you have to pretend like the people that do like it are ignorant and don’t know anything about mythology lol
I have a degree in Classics (Greek Bronze Age). I’ve absolutely loved all the retelling of the Greek myths for a modern (and from a female perspective) audience. Madeline Miller is such a great story teller.
Hey Nick, here is a little appreciation comment. I just got married this weekend (a very small, civil wedding) and I wanted to tell you that the work that wedding photographers make is not enough appreciated. If you are so busy then that means you are great at what you do, keep up the good work!
I loved the zoo animal video 😆 And this is my favorite channel on UA-cam. Books and just a chill dude with legitimately interesting things to say, even when you’re just showing us a microphone or a plant on your desk 😆 keep it up
I'm about two thirds of the way through it. It's really good! I wish I kept notes on all the characters and relationships because it gets a bit confusing at times.
Night is a terrible tragic experience. There are two or three follow-up books, but they don’t necessarily add to the narrative. Although it tells more of his life, but it seems like fiction. Nice interview!
Outsiders is the best, but zero motorcycles. You absolutely NEED to read it. Disagree about Grease 2 (but I’m old enough to have seen the original Grease in the theater.)
I just found your channel! We have very similar taste in books and the ones you didn't like or struggled through, I did as well; The Girl Who Love Tom Gordon, Circe, etc. I've read every Stephen King novel and some I love, but some I think he's too politically curmudgeonly to finish. Anyway, love your channel.
I never struggle. Too many books to love and enjoy to ever struggle. I will drop a book when I lose interest. And I read War and Peace, so I know i can stick to things. But I was engaged and that is key.
Whew, when I first read Circe, I could not believe it was by the same author who wrote the amazing The Song of Achilles. While her writing style, which I adore, remained consistent, the storyline in Circe felt rather stagnant. Considering Circe’s fascinating journey, I was initially excited but ended up disappointed.
Wish the people you interviewed could mention who wrote the books, cause I really wanna read the book she recommended (sorry bad with names). The book she is talking about: A House in the Sky, written by Amanda Lindhout
I hated what I read of Circe. I didn't have to read it (eg, for book club) so I DNF'ed it pretty early on. I hope it picks up for you. Maybe you'll report that by the end it becomes great.
I understand the cap/comfort thing. I've recently taken to it (though not indoors) and I wear a beanie, constantly in the Winter. That said, and I hope you don't mind me saying, but you look great without the cap! 😉😉 Oh, and Grease 2? Utterly awful! 😉😉
I was very into Circe for a short amount of time and then it was suchhhhh a struggle and I didn't care much at all. Her writing is great but it's hard when the story isn't interesting. It's put me off from Son of Achilles honestly.

Honestly so comforting that you feel this way about Circe. Everyone always says how much they loved it and I struggled to get through it as well!
The audiobook for Circe is wonderful. Give it a try!
I was thinking about joining the bookclub, saw the pick and was like well there's always September 😅

Circe does lag in the middle, but picks up again in the second half -- stick with it (if you can.)
I'm stuggling with Circe too..Jumped out of it and got back into Outlander book 3
Cucumbers are delish especially fresh out of the garden
Me, watching this, as I’m eating a cucumber recipe from that guy 😭😭😭
you look sharp without a hat
💁🏻♂️

You’re telling you you’ve never read the outsiders in school?!?! You have you read it, it’s a great book. (Stay golden pony boy)

Hopefully you get The Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon soon. Would love to hear your opinion on it. It's my favorite book.
I'm about two thirds of the way through it. It's really good! I wish I kept notes on all the characters and relationships because it gets a bit confusing at times.
Agreed! Loved this book.
We have HMV stores here in the UK. The London one is huge !
I've not read Circe yet. I decided to try Ulysses and it's killing me!!! Not sure I can do it so I get the struggle with tough books.
Night is a terrible tragic experience. There are two or three follow-up books, but they don’t necessarily add to the narrative. Although it tells more of his life, but it seems like fiction.
Nice interview!
You should read Billy Summers by Stephen King (week 31 or something I don’t even know at this point)
Elie Weisel’s Night is inspiring . I need to reread it.
Zola!!!
That's a really cool way to celebrate 🎉
Wait, you bought Night at Toys R Us? That’s wild, I assumed they would only have children’s books.
Outsiders is the best, but zero motorcycles. You absolutely NEED to read it.
Disagree about Grease 2 (but I’m old enough to have seen the original Grease in the theater.)
Yes, in the 90’s, here in the states, HMV was the thing! However, we don’t have them here anymore.

Circe takes a while to get into but worth pushing through

@@marysalmon2367 I read War and Peace during the first Covid lockdown. It was amazing!
We still have hmv in the UK!

Wiesel is amazing. Everything he wrote.

Adding “A House in the Sky” to my list, sounds really interesting. I’ve seen both Grease and Grease 2, and I disagree, the original is better.

I had DNF Circe long time ago before it was pick this month.
Switch to an audio book... It sounds beautiful and that may help.
I'm almost done with circe too and I love literature and "boring books" but I didn't love it either, and I love mythology and adored song of achilles
BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS
I may have already mentioned this in the past. But it just came to mind
Night is actually my favorite book of all time 😢
Have you read and NK Jemisin? Try out the Broken Earth Trilogy
I bought streets of loredo the sequel to lonesome dove. Can I read this book on its own? Is it actually good ????
life on book podcast talked about your youtube channel !
I was very into Circe for a short amount of time and then it was suchhhhh a struggle and I didn't care much at all. Her writing is great but it's hard when the story isn't interesting. It's put me off from Son of Achilles honestly.
Your lady friend looks like Lady Gaga talking
Wait, is Grease 2 actually good or are you Punk-ing us?
Grease 2 is way better than the 1st one

Did not like Circe.
I did not like Circe at all forced myself to finish it ,horrible book
I stopped Circe just before the hallway mark. 🫤
