Rothwell was a sublime writer, his wit was unsurpassed. He played with words for comedy unlike other writers...line after line thru all the carry ons. Remarkable.

I guess tastes differ a lot. I believe this was made part of some '100 best films list'. Personally, though I really enjoy the Carry On series, I found this one of the weakest examples. Ironically, it's the only one that I actually saw in the theatre when it was first released, at the Picture House, Leicester. I was very disappointed then, and I've never taken to it. I saw Polanski's Macbeth at that same cinema. I thought that was pretty much rubbish too, although I've liked other things that Polanski did. This just seemed heavy-handed to me, and largely lacking in the cheeky charm that made the Carry On series appealing.

Benedict Cumberbatch's mum is the Princess Jelly. Not a lot of people give two shits about that.
