Okay, I replaced it today but took me a little longer then the half hour. Lol. I found making sure the steering wheel is straight when starting allows for the bolt to be straight down under the steering wheel for easy removal when using a socket extension and also that removing the bolt from inside motor area first and push the shaft into the boot. Then remove the bolt under column and pretty easy to remove like Frogman says over the vent tube. When installing push back through boot and connect the bolt in motor area first then your able to pull the shaft back into mount under steering wheel. I did not have to turn my wheel any to get the shaft to slide back into mount under steering wheel. Not sure if this was because I kept wheel straight at the beginning?? So far all the clunking is gone with turning. Mine also had a clunk from a stop position to acceleration which I’ve noticed is also gone. Time will tell! Thanks Frogman for posting this. Also, when I placed the shafts side by side, the new one is about 1/2-3/4” shorter which worried me a little. Don’t worry, still fit just fine!!
Excellent video! Thanks for being informative and thorough. It helps a whole lot to have the new PN and know that the boot does NOT need to be removed. Other videos show it being removed and that looks like a real pain. I'm going to order this part right now and am believing it is a permanent fix. Like you, I had this intermediate shaft replaced after a few thousand miles. I'm at about 72k miles right now and it's starting to bump again. One other upgrade to consider is a steering dampener. I've ordered it and should have it today. Will install it this weekend along with some Billstein OEM replacement shocks.
I have a 2023 AT4 GMC HD and I feel a rattle on bumpy gravel roads. Seems to be more as I’m turning. And feels like it’s coming from down the steering wheel. Is this what you guys feel? I’m still under warranty and they said they replaced the shaft when I first brought it. But it’s still doing it.
I don’t have much steering play like other but definitely have a annoying rattle when slightly turning right on bumpy roads. Believe this might be might fix
how would you guys describe the clunk? mine sounds like a wobble in the front end when going over bumps and turning wheel at low speeds. dealer charges springs and shocks so far, no help.
@@FROGMAN524 awesome man Thanks! I'm on my second one from the dealer with only 38k mi and it's 10 times worse than the original problem. Just received my new part and I will be putting it in today. Appreciate all your fix it and how-to videos on your truck buddy those are really helpful. Thanks man!👍
Purchased through dealer or online? Also, at first you mention keeping wheel locked in place to avoid air bag deployment and then you unsecured it to turn wheel to line up shaft?
Purchased from dealer in Scottsdale through their discount website GMpartscenter.net Also, the seatbelt is a precaution to keep from breaking the clock spring. Once the new shaft is connected, I’d you can’t line up the under hood part exactly, leave the seatbelt attached and turn the truck to accessory so you can move the wheel just a degree or two to make the final connection.
Frogman, I received an e mail but nothing mentioned here as to your overall success. please ad to your post and let all know how successful it all went.

Thank you. I’ve had this new shaft installed now for 6,000 miles without a hiccup. No more noise or clunk.

Does it cause a clicking sound or something like sliding when moving or changing gear gears?
O.K. so ? did it fix the problem ?
Any updates? I replaced both the boot and the shaft and still have a clunking noise. It seems louder now. Great video by the way.
Noise is gone and has been gone. At 75,000 on the truck without and issue.

Eager to hear how it feels and sounds here on out
So far so good. Been about a month
Still silent. Very happy.
I've had to do this to every one of my GM trucks since 2004. Some more than once. You'd think they would have figured this problem out by now?.
You’ld think. I really can’t believe it.
What’s the actual part number?
O.K. so, ? did this work for you ?
Issue free to this very day. Very happy.
Did it fix the problem??
Yes it absolutely did. Very happy with this new part number. Silent as can be.

Did this fix the loose steering as well?
It did so far
isn't there a service bulletin on this? In other words, wont the dealership do this for free?
They did the first time, not the second time and only because it was still under bumper to bumper at the time
The intermediate steering shaft has been an issue on the full size GM trucks for 20 years. I've dealt with it on my last 6 trucks since 2002.

It worked 100%. No more slop in the steering or noise of any kind.
Wtf, changing steering components in a vehicle less than 5yrs old??
My 22 AT4 HD started clunking around 15,000 mi
Only 1,000 miles so far but nice and solid.
