Beolab 17 is better, I have both and the Beolab 17 has that perfect sound that is super balanced articulated and defined. The beosound 2 has a more modern sound, that sound with deep bass and for the function and size is fantastic but it doesn't have the transparency of the Beolab 17. Both products have an incredible sound, but if you ask which one has a better sound of course the BL17
chrsweden. Hello, I like BeoLab 3 but I prefer BeoLab 17. They have a much smoother frequency response, deeper, more controlled bass and more natural mid range. They sound particularly good with vinyl LP's from a decent turntable. John
Hi John, What do you think if Beo17s for a rectangular room with 25 ft length and 15 ft width? Will these be too small for this size room. I want to use these 2 as my main speakers and I like bass. Thanks!
Can you advise the best way to upgrade from an old 2009 BeoSystem 1 running Beo Sound 4 running & Beolab 9 speakers - to a the new BeoSystem 4 with Beolab 17 with a Samsung 4K television?
Hi John. How do you create a 5.1 surround sound with B&O speakers, if you have another brand tv. Is that even possible? Won't I be missing a center speaker? or will two beolab 18 and two beolab 17 and a beolab 19 work? As far as I can see, the systems are ment to be used with a B&O tv, which then works as the center speaker. anyway around that?
That's right, normally the B&O TV becomes the centre in a 5.1 configuration and it has a surround sound processor built in. I have used Bang & Olufsen speakers successfully with 3rd party TV's on many occasions though. I use a good AVR (the likes of Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, Pioneer etc) with a set of 5.1 channel pre outputs (essentialy using it as a processor). So you connect all sources to the AVR and use it's HDMI switching and a phono cable to each speaker set to 'line in'. This way the AVR does the surround processing for you and the amps in the speakers take care of the rest. In the past I have managed to pick up a 2nd hand BeoLab 7 from eBay or a dealer for a centre speaker with a powered adaptor from Sounds Heavenly. Works a treat. You can use a passive speaker for the centre but I tend to like all speakers in the setup to have the same sound signature, using another manufacturer's speaker can spoil the sound a little because it doesn't match the others. Or split the output from the centre pre out and use a pair of Bang & Olufsen speakers (old BeoLab 4000 put together make a nice centre channel.) Hope that helps. John.
Right, but the question remains what do we do about the center channels? B&O used to sell quality center speakers, but you've stopped. For those of us who are interested in your speakers, but not your televisions (or any other television either in my case), this causes problems. What would you suggest we use for center channels for a B&O system that does not come integrated in a television? I very much enjoy your channel.
A question older than I thought. I see a lot of 7.4 centre channel speakers selling for little money. These are not WiSA speakers. Since the launch of the Beosound Theatre it has been suggested that it stands in for a centre speaker needing only a pair of rear speakers and if you really insist a sub-woofer. It has the parameters of all B&O speakers to set them up and adjust for surround sound as the controlling WiSA transmitter. But it has fixatures for B&O or LG TVs. It might need a TV with eARC. Maybe a single Beolab 17 would work as a centre channel, none of the current range have the shape to fit above or below a screen.
Hi John. I am considering buying a second hand Beolab 17. Was there any change in sound quality or built since they where released 8 years ago? B&O are known for doing updates without changing the model name. Thanks Yoram
Hi John, I've been looking at a second hand set of these and I'm wondering, as well as being a stereo pair could these effectively replace a sound bar in there own right?
Hi Martin, you could use them in stereo or part of a surround setup with something like the Almando surround decoder. Although a better option may be Beosound Stage, it will cost you less, decode HD formats and Dolby Atmos plus double as an impressive music system. Personally I would keep BeoLab 17 to stereo music or part of a surround setup with a BeoVision TV. John.
@@BangOlufsenManchester thanks for the feedback. The only reason I ask is that my TV has the WISA standard and so do these hence why I figured it may be a good alternative. Obviously I'm just looking to improve on the TV sound, not full surround. Plus they're a stunning looking and minimalistic design.
@@MartinK-80 That would work fine with the LG WiSA dongle then. With the dongle you can use 2.0 stereo or 5.1 surround (nothing in between). I've tried it and it works great. Music streaming would have to be done through the TV.
@@MartinK-80 You could use the TV apps or if you're Android use a Chromecast/Google TV, if you're Apple and Apple TV then you can stream from your phone. Is it an LG TV you have? I assumed as it had WiSA. Depending on the model it may already have Airplay built in.
Well the second hand value is higher than the original 2013 price, so in 10 years numerically there is no loss. Even if bought recently the loss is about 20%; not lose change but not all of it.
You are right. I always go for BeoLab 18. BeoLab 17 is also nice with new finish - brass? It looks more like Champagne gold to me. ;)
Hi! I am considering the beolab 17 vs the Beosound 2 … what would you suggest?
For sound alone Beolab 17, easy!

I love them too. If they were around when i purchased my BL3s I would have chosen the 17s over them.

Can i use 17s with my new beosound theatre as backsurround just on WiSA?
100% yes what a great set up
May ask, do they have standby mode

Hi John, would you perfer the Beolab 17 over a Beoplay A9 + Beosound combi?
Beosound 1 or the M5, sorry...
Will these work with the WiSA SoundSend?
WiSA is a standard for mixing in products from different companies. Should work okay.
Loooove the 17s retro design but not the brassy goldish color schemes..... like visiting the Pharaohs bathroom😆
What do you have to lose? A Lot of money !!!! If you like them.
