Definitely a great topic! Setting up Beolab 8 with the Stage or Contour is something a lot of people are curious about. It’d be great if you could show a step-by-step guide for that setup in a future video. It’s cool that you can integrate them with different B&O systems wirelessly, but the connections can be tricky for newcomers
Beosound Stage £1800, Beolab 8 pair from £5500. If Mozart speakers could be used and then Beosound Emerge or A5 would be more fitting price point. Using the Almando solution costing €1400 loosing the full speaker range of the Stage to use it as a centre speaker only and then adding any Beolab speaker soon becomes expensive. But if you already own several B&O speakers that might be the lowest cost way.
Difference between DPL via Theatre and WISA is that the top controls don’t function anymore with WISA. With DPL you can lower the volume, choose any of the 4 presets and can play/pause/forward and go back. With DPL the beolab 8 is no longer visible in AirPlay or in the app as standalone (or g roup) speaker, in Wisa it is. In terms of sound I don’t hear any difference.
That’s a super helpful breakdown of the differences between DPL and WISA. I think most people don’t realize the loss of functionality with the top controls in WISA mode. It’s nice to hear you’re not noticing a difference in sound quality though-always good to know that the experience is more about convenience than compromise.
Great review Ian and thanks for the Covers this year My Mrs is going to speak to you about Halo soon the Senrtra phone is now an house phone looks cool Which I'll give you the number Also Speak Soon ❤
I’m really interested in this too. Adding Beolab 8s as rear speakers with the Struts would definitely be an elegant solution, and I imagine they would pair beautifully with the Beolab 28s or other front speakers in a home cinema setup.
Very kind of you to have made a video on the Beolab 8. Well executed and informative! I did have some questions submitted prior to this that I would like to explore further: 1. can you show in a short video clip how to swap the top aluminium ring if you want it in a different colour later? My dealer was not able to explain it in a very accurate way. If you cannot show it, I’m happy with some written details. I.e. any special tools needed, any special movement or force required, any screws unscrewed, like how does one exactly do it or is it done only by a dealer? 2. how exactly can the floor stand be made shorter? I’ve heard different theories.
The floorstand can be sawed of, yes quite literally sawed off and then you’d have to redrill a small hole at the bottom and thats that. Also, swapping the top plate is done with a plastic insert tool, which is inserted in a small slot and then you can turn to remove the top plate!
@ Thank you for sharing your knowledge! :) You are the second person telling me the stand must be sawed off and drilled. I’m really not tempted to do that, it would not only hurt to see but it’s not user-friendly while resell value might also decrease. As for the top plate, is it the same plastic insert as the one provided with the Theatre used for the removal of its front? Otherwise probably possible to get hold of this through a dealer. I assume some cables might be hanging from the plate that might require disconnecting. By the plate do you mean that the entire top including the glass interface and the aluminium ring underneath it would come off as one, so the two would have to be separated from each other? Just trying to imagine due to the lack of any videos or information out there :/.
We unfortunately cannot show that but StevenT's reply answers your questions for you! support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/19044910782225-Which-stand-and-bracket-options-are-available-for-Beolab-8#:~:text=Floor%20stand%3A&text=The%20tube%20can%20be%20cut,original%20length%20is%20985%20mm). Here is also a link explaining you would need an authorised installer to cut the floor stand for you so I would go back to your local dealer and ask for information on any contacts they may have to help you
Are we talking about a pair of BL8 vs a pair of A9. The Beolab 8 does not even come close to the A9. The A9 has so much more power and dynamics. I love the look of BL8 but the sound is only for the dinner table, kitchen or as rear speakers. A pair of Balance sound MUCH better then the BL8. Its just so weak and its a shame because it looks so nice.
Thanks again for the great review, Ian. Looking forward to the next one!
Love the new style video. Good work Ian.
Yes very interested thank you in Seening that Video ❤
Yes, let us know how to setup Beolab 8 with the Stage/Contour!

Just added a Almando decoder and you can add them all 🥶
When is it expected to be released?

You can also use the beosound core to select all your speakers via multiroom wirelessly when using an old vinyl record player with pre-amp

No problem Matt 😅
I am very interested in how you can connect a pair of beolab 8 as rear speakers to the struts😊

How does the beolab 8 in stereo compare to the A9 in stereo?
