  • If you want to increase horsepower and torque on your LS3 equipped car or you simply need to change your fuel injectors for some other reason, such as them being defective, then this video will demonstrate how to correctly remove the fuel rail, replace the injectors and re-install so that your car runs correctly. Note that this procedure will either be easy or hard depending on whether or not you have the tools mentioned in this video and follow the procedure carefully.

    Good video, looking to see what I did wrong earlier today.
    This is good basic instruction for many different fuel rails, the ones for me today were from a 2002 truck.
    Couple of things I would add: lots of care taking off any hold down nut, some of the studs they fasten to are integral to/cast into the manifold and seem soft with corners that round to easily IMO (be sure socket is fully engaged on all sides, not tilted). Those "Christmas tree" hold downs most bundles of wiring have don't have to be pried out, they are hinged on one side and the other side a smaller flat blade screw driver pushes a tab or twists a tab apart and then it hinges open

    If you are just replacing a bad injector with another stock one, do you still need to tune?

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  3 роки тому +1

      No tune is necessary. In fact the car still running with the bad one demonstrates somewhat how much tolerance there is on the tuning. With a new injector it will run optimally again.

    I put longtube headers and a k&n air filter on my Camaro and now I'm getting a lean code p0171 and p0174.
    Should I get the 60 lbs fuel injectors?

      I think the vacuum leak is on your headers. Your forward O2 sensor is reporting a lean condition so check the header seal to the exhaust ports.

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  6 місяців тому

      It might but it could also be the wire going back to the coil. You could try swapping the number 1 injector with one of the other ones and if the problem follows the injector then you know it's a bad injector. Otherwise it's the wiring.

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  6 місяців тому

      If you swap the number 1 with any other injector and start getting misfires on the new injector then it's a bad injector. If you still get problems on the number 1 cylinder after the swap, then you could test the wire by disconnecting both ends from the injector and the coil and using a multimeter in continuity mode but this isn't 100% reliable, as the break might be intermittent. Only way to know for sure is to buy a new wire and swap it also. If the wire is expensive you could try to use some lamp chord or some other wire you might have laying around of similar gauge just for testing purposes but doing component swaps is the best way. If you still can't isolate the problem it could be the coil pack itself but the same logic applies of swapping parts until the problem moves from one cylinder to another.@@dfgnoonie4

    So I have to do this as well on my 2014 2ss and I was wondering do you have to throw a tune on it if I'm just replacing the OEM injectors with new OEM injectors I wouldn't suspect I would have to but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask thanks

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  2 роки тому +1

      If it's part number for part number then technically no, the existing tune will be fine. However if the old injectors were clogged or not working as well you'll notice a slight difference in the tune anyway. Not enough to cause driveability problems though.

    Did you have any issues with the intake manifold? I noticed that the bolts holding the fuel rail bracket (8mm) are for the intake manifold ?

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  5 років тому +1

      The manifold is held down by several bolts and I don't believe the fuel rail bolt contributes to that but in the event that it did, it's still not enough to affect the clamping force on the manifold to produce a leak. I didn't have any problems with my manifold. I had lots of problems with the fuel rail and injectors but that's normal because they are stubborn and access is limited.

    • @ChrisCamaro

      Any time you change the specifications of the fuel injectors you need to update the ECU because the ECU is calibrated to the flow characteristics of the injectors which are very specific to the exact model.

      The amount of fuel that come out of the pressure relief valve is nominal. It's not really worth the effort to try to salvage . However there is much more that is in the injector rails which will pour out; however it adds up to maybe a couple ounces.

      @@anonimous2451 Yeah no problem. Basically starting 2014 the camaro went through a facelift called "mid cycle enhancement" that lasted for 2 years but had the same mechanicals under the hood and then starting in 2016 you have the generation 6 which was a completely different car. Basically a Cadillac ATS with different body panels on it and an LT1 (DI engine) instead of the LS3 (Port injection). Personally I like the 2010-2013 era, as I think it was the most authentic reproduction of the Camaro for the older crowd. The later "improvements" seem to cater more to a younger audience and has less in common with the Camaro heritage.

    • @ChrisCamaro

      A heck of a lot easier than taking them out. To put them back on, if you push too hard they simply go in and bottom out. Pulling them on the other hand can cause injury or broken components so it's much harder to do properly. I got lucky though and it wasn't that bad. Getting the injectors out on the other hand... what a chore that was.

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  6 років тому +3

      Just changing the injectors won't increase power. What it does is enable you increase power from mods that require more fuel. If you supercharge for example, you will need more fuel to get that extra boost so in that sense the injectors allow you to achieve that extra power.

    What injectors did you go with

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  3 роки тому +1

      The P/N: 16U-00-0050-8 is a 50 lb, 550cc fuel injector and should be good up to the limit of the fuel pump. Often people will go wayyy bigger than this but I think it's a bad idea. The computer is digital and applies a fixed range to the available pulse widths that the injector can achieve. If you have huge injectors, the range is huge but the individual steps are also huge so you have "course" resolution over your air to fuel ratio. In my opinion you want the smallest injectors you can get that will give you the max horsepower you are going for at 90% duty. Any more than that and you are unnecessarily throwing away tuning resolution in your fuel map.

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  7 років тому

      I think it would depend on what sort of warranty service you were looking for. If one of the new injectors hydrolocked and blew up the engine or even if 1 simply failed, that would be directly related to the swapped component so I don't think GM would cover it. If you had a problem like... say...rod knock on one of the rods, I can't imagine why they wouldn't fix it because of an injector swap. Then again, there's always a way to make an argument that the stuff you've done to your car indirectly caused a problem, such as extra fuel causing incorrect AFR, causing detonation, causing shock loads to your pistons, causing a rod to get damaged... this is the sort of BS that you may expect if you start swapping stuff.

      @@rodneysmith3591 When you do a scan of the car while it's running, there's a PID for each cylinder that counts misfires. Therefore you can track the misfires per cylinder to determine of 1 or more cylinders are misfiring excessively. While misfires could be caused by more than 1 thing, if your plugs are known to be good (or if you replace them anyway since they're cheap) and your closed loop fuel system is properly balancing your AFR, then the injectors would be the next likely culprit so you could either run some injector cleaner though the gas and see if the misfire goes away or pull the fuel rail and inspect the injectors on the misfiring cylinders. However I would argue if you've gotten tot he point where you've pulled the fuel rail, you might as well just put all new injectors in since it's not worth the hassle of doing the job only to do it again later when another one goes.
