I didn't even notice this until after I went back and watched the original movie, but this deserves to be mentioned: For those who haven't seen the original 80s film, Doug actually managed to do a *shot-for-shot* recreation of the film's song "Girls of Rock and Roll" (which I knew is what the song was parodying, but not to this extent) all the way down to the _camera angles, most of the environment, and movements of the characters_. Well, the Chippettes in the original series though, in my opinion, have the worse designs. They don’t even look like chipmunks in comparison to Alvin and his brothers. They look more like human girls with chipmunk noses. Also, I was never a fan of the Chippettes anyways. They’re just genderbent versions of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Okay... I guess I should check that out too then! My point was that I haven't heard Doug sing before, that I could remember, making it surprising for me that he could do it so well. He has a lot of videos, you know!
Doug has had training since he was young from his mother, who is a classically trained opera singer. I think the best examples of his singing are in his Les Miserables review and like was mentioned earlier, Moulin Rouge. I think Rob can sing as well, but he never does for the reviews excet once, but I don't remember which one and it was such a small line.
Chipmunks well.......I hate them, all the movies series and songs. I don't care this one is worst of the all, there all stupid, and boring. Just like everything Transformer or TNT related.
Actually the first 1986 movie is gold, of course it was made for people who watched the tv series at the time, so everyone knew the backstory, the relationship between the characters etc.
***** Weird Al's music for the junkions was great, so was having Leonard Nemoy as Galvatron, Eric idle as Wreck-gar, Orson Welles as Unicron, and Robtert Stack as Ultra Magnus, Lionel Stander as Kupp was great as well, and that final battle between Megatron and optimus was a universal game changer.
***** true, but that's more becasue everything went towards promoting new toys/new characters on behalf of Hasbro, whereas before the movie that had been the issue, but they had still been allowed to give actual good story. also the loss of most of the g1 characters for both sides forced them to try and re-create the same feeling with new characters.
I died from a severe case of pneumonia this past winter for about 10 seconds, and after I listened to this, I almost had the same experience. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disturbed Renegade And the 2016 Ghostbusters, and 8 Crazy Nights, We're Back a Dinosaurs' Story, The Star Wars Holiday Special, Batman v Superman, sequel month, and the top 11 dumbest Spider-man moments.
+nintendomaster64 Really poor transition to the big screen given the source material. FFS they had like 50 different stories within the first book to work with and take parts from, yet somehow fucked it up.
Here's an intereting fact: Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. (The son of the creator of the Chipmunks franchise as well as the voice of Alvin, Simon and Dave since the 1987 movie) and Janice Karman (Ross's wife, voice of Theodore and the Chipettes since the 1987 movie, even directing that exact movie) were also involved in the live action films (providing the singing voices of Alvin and Theodore) as well as the 2015 TV series (the wife created, directed and wrote for the series....no really. She did.)
Actually, Janice has provided the voices of the Chipettes and Theodore since 1983. Not '87. Ross Jr has been Alvin and Simon and the Chipmunks singing voices since 1979.
I love the irony that at the end when the girls, who favored the new movies, and the boys, who favored the original movie, competed for the title of the real chipmunks movie, the fact that the girls were in the competition, kind of tells us that they are envying the original and they don’t realize it
When I was younger I watched like three of the live action chipmunk movies and two animated ones. The animated ones were one where a teacher was a werewolf (I think) and one where they meet Frankenstein. I don’t know what other people think of those but they overall were way more entertaining than the live action films ever were and I grew out of those and would never be able to tolerate sitting through them again.
Am I the ONLY one who does NOT find the 'Chipmunks' from the real-life movie "cute" in the slightest? I see nothing "AAAAWWWW" worthy about them at all ! : /
Can I just say how thankful I am that this guy actually plans the commercial breaks in his videos, I have not seen any other youtuber that does this but it makes having to deal with ads so much better.
Oh wow. You're saying that as an insult but I was literally just thinking that he did this review before, and now I know why. It was the smurfs I was thinking of.
Not sure if anyone noticed this. But in the real chipmunk adventure movie (The good one from the 80's) there is a mistake where they are all walking up the stairs, and Simon is on the right but then he is on the left. Nostalgia Critic redid the music video thing completely correct. (I've seen the real one a lot of times.) you can see it at 23:32. Critic I'm glad you put that in and glad you noticed that mistake. Not a lot of people do. I love the chipmunk adventure a lot. It is much better than the live-action movies. Critic is best. Critic is great!
Is one of this surprising good singers, like jontron.....Tamara has an amazing voice talent, I think rachel was more good looking but tamara is funnier and more talented.
6:56 - Its okay movie writers, you can call Theodore the "Fat One" everyone who is a fan of Alvin And The Chipmunks does it anyway.... Apparently, Chipmunk Hippies and Communes exist in this movie..... Wasn't there a cartoon that actually explained their backstory and where they came from with a mother who abandoned them to Dave's front porch because she was unable to feed them during a harsh winter, and Alvin, Simon and Theodore go to find her and reconnect with her? I remember watching it in syndication on The Disney Channel when I was younger. A Chipmunk Reunion I think it was called...
buntcubbles Not only that, but chipmunks (maybe squirrels) are established as people in that show. Vinny and a crook named Harry, V's best friend Ali, a little mute boy in the forest, a tribe of Mayan like natives in central America and the islands surrounding them, and a slew of holiday specials that have their relatives, blood and otherwise pay visits. Easter and thanksgiving. They were never an abnormality in that world, but they were a minority that typically avoids the built up environment. This flushes that in the trash by having them be actively written off as unnatural.
Hilarious and brilliant review Critic. If you're doing a celebrity month again like you did with Nicholas Cage anytime soon I would love to see you do Brendan Fraser.
Michael Bay: All three of them blow up. *The Chipmunks blow up* Me: Micheal Bay should direct the next Chipmunk movie, at least there'd be a satisfying ending...
@@andrewaftontheandroidhedge2780 YAY!!! I can't believe I'm saying this, but thank you Michael Bay, even though your sequels to Transformers 2007, one of my favorite movies, anyway, even though his sequels ruined my childhood, at least he did the world a favor by blowing them up.
Can you please do the sequels to the rest of the Alvin and the Chipmunks. I really want to see you (the great and powerful Critic) tear the rest of this shit up.
I didn't know the film was a remake before this review came out. Also, when I was in a hospital at 10 due to appendicitis, I watched the second film. Then the first film. Then I wanted to watch the second again and my Mum refused. She's hated them since.
Watch the original Chipmunk Adventure. It’s not an origin story but exactly what was said: the kids trekking across the world, having adventures and singing mostly original songs. It’s entertaining but it beats my nostalgia into the ground so I haven’t finished it in like 30 years.

Well anyone can sing... doing it good is the hard part, and he umm didn't lol.
Let me guess, the same makers made Smurfs
Yep.
Yup
Unfortunately.
Yeah they did.
Shockwave Shockwave Technically this was made by FOX and the Smurfs was by Sony. Unless you're talking about the douche bags with the chart, then yes.

News is going around that Michael Bay is doing a live action Dora the Explorer movie.
DOUG, STOP GIVING HOLLYWOOD IDEAS!!!
that actually sounds amazing. ironically, of course. dora + explosions cant go wrong!
the story:
she blows up
Kaio Scott I'm actually excited about that, it should be badass!
Lets start building bunkers cor the explosions
Kaio Scott why Michael Bay? That really doesn't match.

I never once thought the live action chipmunks were cute.......
Christian Escandon Same...when I look back, I actually feel like screaming
FoxieRoxie365 The first Chipmunks movie I saw was the one with Frankenstein and when I saw this movie I was really confused
Chipmunks well.......I hate them, all the movies series and songs. I don't care this one is worst of the all, there all stupid, and boring. Just like everything Transformer or TNT related.

the cartoon ones r tho

You can do that on this platform for literally hours
FOR FREE
And without having your brains melting and cringing.
And without ear-piercing singing or eye-bleeding dance numbers
I don't think the chipmunks are even all that cute. There's just something not-cute about the way they're presented to me.
@@TheKabuto90 the original is definitely superior and even if it is corny it still holds up better then this literal shit eating movie

Gosh, Tamara is so good at singing!
just because it has sequels doesn't mean the original was any good. look at transformers
The original transformers movie is shit too.
It's mediocre at best.
Actually the first 1986 movie is gold, of course it was made for people who watched the tv series at the time, so everyone knew the backstory, the relationship between the characters etc.
*****
Weird Al's music for the junkions was great, so was having Leonard Nemoy as Galvatron, Eric idle as Wreck-gar, Orson Welles as Unicron, and Robtert Stack as Ultra Magnus, Lionel Stander as Kupp was great as well, and that final battle between Megatron and optimus was a universal game changer.
*****
true, but that's more becasue everything went towards promoting new toys/new characters on behalf of Hasbro, whereas before the movie that had been the issue, but they had still been allowed to give actual good story.
also the loss of most of the g1 characters for both sides forced them to try and re-create the same feeling with new characters.
This guy ruined my

I died from a severe case of pneumonia this past winter for about 10 seconds, and after I listened to this, I almost had the same experience. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHIPMUNKS EATING SHIT
This surprisingly has to be one of Doug's best reviews.
that and food fight
Disturbed Renegade
And the 2016 Ghostbusters, and 8 Crazy Nights, We're Back a Dinosaurs' Story, The Star Wars Holiday Special, Batman v Superman, sequel month, and the top 11 dumbest Spider-man moments.
Jonny Boy and Judge Dredd.
I think his best are the Lorax, the Cat in the Hat, It and Food Fight personally.
Jonny Boy

Can Critic review the Diary of a Wimpy Kid trilogy? (Yes, I called it a trilogy)
whats wrong with it?
+nintendomaster64 Really poor transition to the big screen given the source material. FFS they had like 50 different stories within the first book to work with and take parts from, yet somehow fucked it up.
+nintendomaster64 They're bleh.
No
I thought it was a good series personally. Very funny and relatable. as I was a teenager myself when the movies came out.
10:02. "Um Mr. Cross you're in a movie, action!" My ribs are killing me! XD

As a person in their 30s that grew up watching the original that musical number at the end just made my morning
Same here, except now I can't see the actual movie without laughing my ass off because in my mind, they're yelling expletives in the balloons LOL

I love the irony that at the end when the girls, who favored the new movies, and the boys, who favored the original movie, competed for the title of the real chipmunks movie, the fact that the girls were in the competition, kind of tells us that they are envying the original and they don’t realize it
yeah the original is far better

*DAVID CROSS WAS HILARIOUS IN THIS MOVIE. Even at the start just “back off man, this is Dave saville” has me in stitches* 😂 😂 😂
I remember that vhs sitting on a shelf in my aunts house. Shoulda pushed harder to watch it
Nostalgia critic's voice impersonation of Dave sounds more like Milhouse's father from The Simpsons.
Am I the ONLY one who does NOT find the 'Chipmunks' from the real-life movie "cute" in the slightest? I see nothing "AAAAWWWW" worthy about them at all ! : /
You're not the only one.

Same wig. Just put some acne on him. I think Doug plays him, too, but I don't know.

That was one of the things I noticed when I first saw this review as well. Their attention to details is amazing. I hope they do more this year!
Fun fact:
Every movie in this franchise has a rotten tomato score with each getting a worse score than the last
And yet, each of them made far more in the box office than the 1987 film did. What a f***** up world we live in.
Doesn’t surprise me at all
Not true, The Road Chip got a higher score than Chipwrecked
Damn. NC is actually a really good singer.
well his mother(god rest her soul) was an opera singer
Is one of this surprising good singers, like jontron.....Tamara has an amazing voice talent, I think rachel was more good looking but tamara is funnier and more talented.
Ryan Redinger Especially in the Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and my personal favorite, Moulin Rouge review!

Yes!
buntcubbles Not only that, but chipmunks (maybe squirrels) are established as people in that show.
Yeah there is. It's called Mystery of Trunk.
I have no soul.
But Theodore does have a personality outside eating. He's actually very shy and innocent.
I actually have an entire branch of my family where the guys are colour blind. I always found it interesting.

I didn't know the film was a remake before this review came out.
Also, when I was in a hospital at 10 due to appendicitis, I watched the second film. Then the first film. Then I wanted to watch the second again and my Mum refused. She's hated them since.
Then how come Dave is meeting them for the first time?
Watch the original Chipmunk Adventure. It’s not an origin story but exactly what was said: the kids trekking across the world, having adventures and singing mostly original songs. It’s entertaining but it beats my nostalgia into the ground so I haven’t finished it in like 30 years.
Your mom is a smart woman.
Wow That was a sad story Joseph
I never thought I'd see a grown man yell at a camera about a movie with singing chipmunks, and then proceed to sing himself afterwards
