    Shane Burcaw (he/him) is the author of several award-winning books about disability. He is the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
    Hannah Burcaw (she/her) graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog, which has over 1,000,000 subscribers on UA-cam. Hannah has spoken at prestigious universities and Fortune 500 companies alike about the realities of ableism. On her popular Instagram account, she advocates for acceptance of all people and works to improve the way society thinks about disability.
    Shane and Hannah have been together for over four years. They got married in September of 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic in their backyard, with their officiant conducting the ceremony via Zoom. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.

    Fyi, you have told the internet that you can get under your house and that there is mail in your box that may be unattended. I also suggest another camera mounted on the other side so your whole back yard is visible. This is a different world we live in and it's not very nice. Stay safe guys!

    It's great you guys had the cameras up and the help of your neighbor. But I have to admit that the man breaking into your backyard really isn't that unusual for California. Things like that don't happen every day, but they do happen. And hats off to the LAPD for responding so quickly. It really helps when you know your police department takes these things seriiously. Glad to see you guys doing well. Lots of love.

    Shane to stop worrying about someone staying under your house you could install some electric fencing at the crawlspace entrance. Assuming very few or anyone in LA having ever experienced an electric fence before, any intruder who would happen to make contact with the electric fence would find it to be a rather shocking unpleasant experience they wouldn’t want to repeat again!😉

    Welcome to SoCal. As an east coast transplant there was such a learning curve. It's good you have people around you who can fill you in on what to look for and be aware of. As example, my situational awareness is pretty good, having grown up in Baltimore and having lived outside Philly before moving here, but it never occured to me that every car I passed could have someone living in it. Cali is such a dichotomy of extremes. You'll love it.

    Hi! I just wont to tell you I had discovered your channel 3 weeks ago and since then I watch ma be 25 or 30 of your videos. I have SMA type 2, I’m 41 from Québec, (the french Canadien province, that’s why my English is so bad hihi)… But I’m going thru some challenges right now that I wait very very too go through… It’s now at 41 that I decided to sell the house I bought with my parents. I think it’s time for them to rest and for me to start a life on my own… but here in Québec it’s not that simple to find a place to live where it have services to help people like us. I’m on a waiting list for an apartment, but in between I have to live in a home for old people (sorry I don’t no the English word)…That was a desapointing. But it’s a very long introduction to tell you that watching your video help me a lot processing all those things. I trying not thinking about the in between, I think if I’m positive at what my life could change for good when I will have a place of my own… I’d never try to meet a woman cause I was a shame of living with my parents, but now I think I could find the courage to try and more know when I watch you so happy together. I know it’s possible that it not work for me but at least I’m wheeling to try :). Thank you so much… I wish I saw you channel before… And I can’t tell you how much I’d like to communicate with you, but I’m know that you have already thousands of people that asked you the same things but I just wonted to thank you for what you did for me even if you didn’t knew it hihi… Thanks a lot (Merci beaucoup!) I'm glad that both of you and Chloe are safe and whoever is there with you! I live in Kalamazoo, MI and back in the 70's to early 90"s we had here what was called a Neighbor Hood Watch with our neighbors to watch for each others homes for anything that looked mysterious things that just don't look right! It restores my faith that there are still some people out there that still do that...such a good thing to happen and need more of in this world. It doesn’t only happen in Ca. It happened to my daughter in a SE Minneapolis (south of the river) suburb that I’m sure you are familiar with. She was renting her house and the person told her she signed the contract and sent the money but hadn’t. My daughter was at work and couldn’t check to verify but believed her. I let her move in not knowing she had only sent a small amount of the money and had not signed the counteract. She left to go somewhere and we found out the full amount wasn’t deposited in her acct. My daughter called the person and she said she planned to work off the rent - never even discussed in the rental agreement.. I personally moved the things she had move in out of the rooms and into the hallway and when she came back told her she could not move in and needed to move her things out of the hallway. I then called the police to make sure she didn’t try to stay. She had come back with a man who she planned to move in as well but hadn’t told us.
    It dawned on me - her name and the story she had told about her mother that she was a ‘nomad.’ I won’t write what they’re called just in case it’s not allowed. But you can’t be too careful these days.
    If they had spent just one night they could have stayed under squatter’s rights.
    Oh, one more thing, my daughter sent the small amount of money back to her but that money hadn’t hit my daughter’s bank yet so the wanna be squatter kept my daughter’s money as well as the money she sent my daughter.

    Just FYI, having a baby is like waking up at 5 every day until they are 4 or so :) in between middle of the night wake ups, and/or early wake ups, you will get very little sleep those first years!

    Him looking at your windows as he walked through your yard makes me think he was casing your house for break in. Likely cased your neighbor’s house as well. Former St. Louis resident and very suspicious of anyone trespassing when they know a house is empty.

    Can’t wait to get back home to California!
    Here in the south we have bears, so many deer, Turkey, coyotes, etc. Oh… and a beagle 🐶that thinks he is the ultimate hunter! 😂😂
    And we have fantastic neighbors to boot!
    All wildlife caught on camera as well!

    • @anneschmidt9587
      @anneschmidt9587 9 місяців тому +1

      Many reasons. The weather, the politics, the access to various beautiful places within a few hours, diversity, gorgeous topography (esp in orange county), variety of things to do (parks, the arts, etc.) I lived there for 6 years and eventually was convinced to move back to where I grew up...Kansas. Night and day. Yes there's more crime there, but when I lived in Orange County and LA for a time, I always felt safe. In fact, a county just north of here has either the top, or 2nd highest homicide rate per capita in the country. So 🤷🏻‍♀️. It isn't for everyone, and I get a look of disgust here when I say I just want to go back, but I really miss it.
