    About Cole & Charisma:
Welcome to the official Roll with Cole & Charisma UA-cam channel! Since the start of our relationship we've
gotten a lot of questions about our experiences as not only an interracial couple, but an interabled one as well. On
this channel you can catch us doing travel and adventure vlogs, challenges, our inclusion series, couple first times, music, and so much more! We started this vlog to bring people into our lives, to answer some questions about how we navigate the world, and hopefully raise awareness surrounding accessibility and dating in a wheelchair. You'll quickly see in our episodes that we're all about inclusion and keeping a great attitude no matter your
circumstances, so if that's what you're into, you're in the right place!

This is the single best decision of your life baby girl. You are young, take your time, pray on it, and let god guide you!! You have to have a passion for anything you do..this is your life we are talking about (as a OTR i promise you that you didn't miss out on anything my sister..i lost my passion for OT long ago..and i hated every moment i spent in gradschool pursing OT and i respect the profession but wish I was brave enough to leave when i had the chance..to not look back and pursue my passion which was medicine...but now time is not on my side and my hubby and i want kids...life just happened so fast). I am sooooo proud of you. I am in awe of you. You will manifest the life of dreams and will bring you everything your heart desires.
My next passion has nothing to do with school and im gonna go out and pursue it, you inspired me babes.
      You are fearless 😍😍😘😘😘
Congratulations on your next journey, on evolving past the standards society set for you..you pushing past and above that. To find and pursue your passion is a double blessing.

I have a useless degree that I have been trying to pay off for years. Half way through getting my BA degree I knew I was probably making a mistake, and with technology today it is outdated. Wish I had been brave enough to take a break when I was having doubts. I was so worried about disappointing everyone around me and now I realize how they would have supported me. I did struggle as I was unable to find a job in my field and have raised my 3 children as a single mom. I worked 2 jobs at times but still managed to be there for school programs, home work, bedtime, and special moments. I'm very proud of the adults they have become. Throughout those years I became aware that being a care giver is something that fit my personality, I found joy in, and had a passion for. I work in an assisted living facility for seniors with dementia and love my job. So I took a longer path to get where I was going, but it has been a happy and rewarding one. This is a place of positivity, so if anyone wants to criticize for you doing what you needed to do for you, they should move along. We each have our own journey, live your best life girl!

This is a great story. More people need to hear stories like this. I was in fact in a similar situation. I was born with a disability and have used a wheelchair all my life. I was in the top of my class all throughout grade school and high school. Then college hit me like a brick. My freshman year was the toughest time I had academically. In fact, I was afraid to ask for help because I felt like I would be seen as stupid and I was also afraid of failure. After a year, I dropped out and got a job helping people with disabilities. Fourteen years after I dropped out, I made the decision to go back to college and finish what I started. I'm still doing that today and I even help out in the disabilities office. I learned so much in those fourteen years that boosted my motivation to go back and do what I need to do to be successful this time around, both academically and socially. If you'd like to hear more details of this story, please refer to my video entitled "Pathway to College Success".

It's refreshing to hear someone feel the same way about OT and obtaining a master's degree. 2 years ago I tried to pursue OT (submitted applications and everything). After getting some experience, I felt it wasn't for me and ended up not pursuing it. I don't regret my decision. :)

I’m a COTA/L (Occupational Therapist Assistant). I chose the associates degree and graduated with very little debt. I went to a “trade” college and do not regret the decision at all. I worked full time while going to school full time. I’ve been in the field 15 years. People make comments on how I’m “only a COTA.” I don’t want the mountains of paperwork OTR’s have to do. No thanks!

I'm thinking about doing the same thing too. I applied to grad school but I found out my anxiety and depression are back after another consultation. I've been struggling on and off for the past 6-7 years. Also, I had severe migraines and my left eye was twitching for like 3 weeks straight.
I want to go, but also my mental health is deteriorating a ton. I don't feel present or alp there. Furthermore, I'm spending more money than what I bargained for.

I’m very proud of you Charisma! I’m currently taking time off (on my second semester of taking time off currently), because I was assaulted (sexually) last August and I simply couldn’t function, and basically I failed out, and was very suicidal. Went to a mental hospital last May for a week and then was forced to live at home as I wasn’t trusted to live on my own (for safety reasons), and I’ve been home ever since. I am disabled as well (Spina Bifida) and am not allowed to work or I’ll lose my healthcare most likely (I bet y’all know all about that bullshit). So I’m currently at home doing nothing. I don’t have the money or motivation (still incredibly depressed) to go back to school, and getting a degree is the only way for a disabled person in this country to live really. It sucks and I feel stuck. The only way I won’t be in poverty my entire life is if I move to a different country, get a bachelors degree while struggling still, or die, either by natural cause, or by my own hands. It’s so hard living with a disability in this country. I realize that my mental health has to come first right now tho, but I feel stuck. I don’t know how Cole does it and stays so positive all the time.
You are right that you don’t have to explain why you aren’t in school to anyone. It’s very hard for me when people ask me why I’m not in school, and I wish it wasn’t. So, I understand how that can make you uncomfortable. We’re here for you and we love you (both). ❤️

I went through OT school and eventually graduated. I agree with your points of paying back the grad school loan back for the rest of your life. I was the lucky few who owes $100,000. Others had $250,000. I'm 4 years out and still owe $71,000. During OT school, I went through extremely severe depression and mental break downs where I had to see a psychiatrist. Other classmates started coming to classes hung over, and even the best students took days off due to mental stress.
Other things that you don't learn in OT school is the immense amount of unpaid overtime work you bring home as well how companies will push for you to treat patients in a group when some patients need more 1:1 sessions. I've had good and really bad experiences depending on company. New grads get paid starting $68,000 but taxes take a chunk, and after rent, utilities, daycare, car insurance, etc, there's barely anything left.
COVID-19 certainly didn't help either... So I am happy that I stumbled onto your video about you finding a different path instead of OT school.

Canadian OT graduate here. Luckily our tuition is far cheaper but the struggle is the same. I went through similar challenges I burnt out so many times and had to go part time stop working. I’m 6 months post grad and not working as an ot yet not because I don’t want to but I can’t handle it medically. I still have a lot to do in my recovery before I can think of doing so. Financially it is hard but I know is the best decision for myself. I want to be fit and give my all when I work as an ot

    • @WKaznartist
      @WKaznartist 3 роки тому

@@lilcuty1492 I hope you are getting family support and psychiatric counseling. I am glad that you were able to graduate. I wish the best for you.
On a side note for U.S. individuals considering applying to OT school, and want to save money... it's best to enter now before 2027.
ACOTE and AOTA' will require OT graduate programs to be doctoral degrees in 2027 for U.S.
So I can easily imagine those new OTD students will graduate with at least $250,000. But knowing that interest rates increase every quarter/semester, it'll be higher.
I hope the salaries will increase to balance out the debt to salary ratio.

Wow! I heard about that that is insane. Our program in Ottawa is a masters level, 6 semesters, approximately 8000CAD per semester for residents and citizens. Probably double for international students but sounds like it’s still cheaper than in the US.

Charisma, I completed a graduate program in rehabilitation counseling and later a law degree while while working full time and it was hard and stressful. I also started having migraines which were horrible, I also ended up with Severe RA, and later Cancer because I put my career aspirations first. I wish I could go back and rethink things but that's not possible. I know what you must be dealing with, ultimately you and only you know how much you can handle. I am glad you listened to your body. You have been doing a great deal and were in a new relationship that required a bit more commitment than most. Just take the time you and Cole need to plan your wedding and to prepare for your life together. You are young and have plenty of time to think about your next move or the right career path. I know that whatever you do it will be the best decision for you both. I am also now a licensed therapist and recommend you do some counseling before getting re-involved in school again. Praying for you guys; seek the Holy Spirit for Guidance, he will never steer you wrong.
