      Typically children with OCD are more "mature" or "wise" because we're very deep thinkers that compartmentalize our thoughts. I remember by the age of 7 I was deeply thinking into things like death, the afterlife, overall the world around me.

      Only to be helpful:
      I have deleted your syndromes in other people, and it was straightforward.
      Now you fear losing your diagnosis, but life is much better without it.
      It's not a diagnosis. It's an installed program that can be disabled.
      In every way act normal, not despite the syndrome, but because it never happened.
      Never relate a single thought to the syndrome, turn around and do something normal.

    • @imonka100
      @imonka100 3 місяці тому +3

      @daniellewallace1996 There isn't really any medication for Touretts. We were lucky our son grew out of it. Not completely, he still has a subtle tics, however, only we can notice as we know. Otherwise, there are not noticable at all and are very random. He was on medication for his anxiety only for about a year, otherwise he has not been on any medication. His OCD and anxiety are pretty managable as well now.

    I'm so grateful to you for giving this brave, funny, intelligent young man an opportunity to fight some of the stigma around this misunderstood syndrome! Most people think Tourette's is just "that thing that makes people swear," and they don't know about the underlying anxiety or other forms it takes. I experienced constant tics and twitches as a kid, coupled with relentless anxiety. I was never diagnosed with Tourette's, but I've wondered for a long time whether I might have it, or OCD, or what. All I know is that even as an adult I have tics and compulsive behaviors that I cannot control, and I'm still an anxious, high-strung person.

      @QuantumMecha 3 місяці тому

      @@windwhisprz I’m not sure if it’s autism ALWAYS, but I also have an incredibly strong sense of justice. It compels me to be…basically really mean back to people who are mean to others first (this is the one I notice the most just because I’m online a lot).
      I don’t feel better if I DON’T do that, to be honest. Like if I see someone say something positive, and someone comes around to say something negative, I go out of my way to do whatever I can to get “revenge” for said person. If it’s a situation where it’s not what someone said, but rather DID? And I can’t do anything? Yeah it eats me up. I think about getting cut off like, HOURS after the fact. Or people not using their blinker or doing things the “Right” way.
      So, no advice really, my man. Just solidarity.

    Benvoilo reminds me of my brother. He was diagnosed with the same disorders as a young child and went through some very hard times. Less was known about these disorders back in the 1990s so he dealt with a lot of stigma and ridicule. I remember some terrible advice given by his doctors… for example, that he needed life long institutional care. That said, he’s about to turn 40 this year, has over come a lot of those challenges and lives a normal life - he’s married and has 2 young kids of his own. His experiences have made him a more considerate, empathetic person than you’d typically meet and he translates this into everything he does. Benvolio is a fantastic young man and no doubt he will also live a wonderful and fulfilling life!

    He described anxiety so well. It literally just happens to you one day, and you’re usually not doing anything different to what you normally would. It just drops on you like a sandbag from the sky and it turns your entire life upside down until you can get help or figure out how to cope. It destroyed my health the summer before high school and I wasn’t “better” until the following year. I’m so proud to see a younger person have the vocabulary and knowledge to express how he feels so easily. That’s such an amazing skill to have at his age. From another anxious person, I love you Ben! You make me feel less alone. ❤❤❤

It’s your façade... it’s the way you deal with the handicap when you’re with a complete stranger OFF CAMERA and without anyone noticing... your vulnerability to trust. To me it’s a bit similar to meeting a small frightened kitten and when I befriend you you show me your true colors. Meeting a handicaped frightened and then reassured person in total intimacy is the greatest gift I wish anyone could experience ... and I know you don’t give that easily. Thank you for existing. Amzing video.
    By far the best video i hace watched on tourette syndrome.
    My name is Matthew, im 24 years old and was diagnosed with tourette syndrome atthw ag of 12.
    I have only just started accepting myself for who i am after watching your video.
    My tourettes has become alot worse in the past 6 months and started feeling alone and depressed and not brave enough to talk ask for help and to talk to someone about it. I also worry about the things that my tics have been affecting such as driving and having conversations with people even my own family memebers. I also have ocd that bothers me alot before I go to bed and have co e to realise why i become so frustrated and agrivated so easily over such small things, only now realizing that its a comorbidity of my tourettes.
    Thanks you soo much Benvolio for sharing your tourettes.

    What a sweet and courageous boy! Thank you for sharing your story! My son was on sbsk a couple years ago for his tourettes as well and it helped him so much to see other people with similar situations. Such an encouragement! We don't have tourettes in our family either except for him and he started at age 2 as well! Keep up the good work! You are amazing and I'm so proud of you!

    He has the same diagnoses as me. I once read something that called comorbid TS and OCD "Tourettic OCD", and that made a lot of sense to me. It can be hard to tell where the disorders each start and end--there is a lot of overlap, especially with tics and compulsions.

    This is EXACTLY how I was diagnosed with chronic migraine. The pain is behind my eye and inflames sinuses. I got sinus surgery for literally no reason at all. Finally, I stumped the allergist and he sent me to headache clinic where I was immediately diagnosed. I'm glad that he was diagnosed before adulthood! I was walking around with migraine since I was 12!

    Hey, Benvolio is a great kid! I’m a teacher of lots of kids his age and actually watching this am thinking that one might have this combo. I may bring it up to his current teacher.
    His description of anxiety is so on point and astute for a single digit human. It spikes over seemingly nothing, you feel dumb for crying (yes, even as a grown-up) or acting out, and people are more understanding but only sometimes. In my case it weirdly turns into a “superpower” in a crisis…like it got good practice in over simple things, like worrying about my kinder kids liking my lesson.
    Fun similarities between my own neurodivergent kids (they’re 21, 18, and 13) and this kiddo:
    -my oldest who might have ASD but has sensory processing issues and anxiety agrees about vanilla!
    -my middle kid with ADD and dyspraxia is very justice oriented too! Her nickname is Miss Justice League!
    -my youngest with ADD and anxiety describes a lot of her physical sensations the same way (also a proper extrovert so it bugs her too).
    I’m sure it is a struggle to stay on track but some of us with older/adult kids describe “finding their tribe” as the eventual thing. These are the ones who just accept you for you, no matter what and even on the worst days. ❤
