I made my bench 48 inches wide then I made, with the same plans, a chair 24 inches wide. A great set and my wife and our boys love it. Extremely stable and comfortable.
I just built a metric variation of this design and it turned out great! Thanks for the design and plans I bought on your website - they were very detailed and clear, and allowed me to adapt the design to different size wood. Initially I was going to use pine 2x4’s as you did (90 x 45 mm or 90 x 35 mm here in Australia). But then saw some gorgeous hardwood decking and used it instead - mainly 85 x 20 mm and a few pieces in 135 x 20 mm. Doubled up some pieces for strength, and made armrests longer and wider. Looks fabulous. The wood is Karri - a native eucalyptus species from West Australia. Using natural color decking oil as finish.
Used your angles to build a bench but used the dimensions and style from another video. Thanks for the help. The angles worked great! I've watched a lot of your videos now. Keep up the good work.
There are a couple of other garden benches on UA-cam that are very similar to yours. But they didn’t have an incline like yours does.I made the one you built because of the incline which makes sitting much more comfortable.
I made 2 of these out of repurposed lumber. Really like them for neatness of look, good armrests, and comfortable posture. I don't like benches that seat you too low and sloped back, nor do I like a 90° angle back. I think you hit this just right.
I made one of these benches out of some reclaimed timber I had spare. The timber was a mix of 7”x 2” and 4”x 2” so my bench is very big and heavy but seats at least four people. The video was great for the overall design and the angles. I worked out the lengths to suit my big bench.
I agree with others that is an excellent design. I have made 2 benches 6ft long and one that is 4ft long. For the 6ft benches I put a supporting strut between the front and back supports. Rather than screwing into the grain(for example attaching the arm rests) I used Kreg joinery. I also glued and screwed all joins. I also made some modifications such as cutting the top of the back support at a 20 degree angle and I used carriage bolts to attach the arm rests to the back supports.
I added a cross piece 6ft long that went from one side of the bench to the other at the midpoint between the front and the back. And because it was 5 x 2 and at 90 degrees the seat laths it was less flexible.
my grandson and I were sitting here watching this guy and I said he's actually that fast, he just kinda looked at me like noooo, funny good job guys love your work. Bill and Ethan.
Like this much better than version 1. Also you did a great job talking to your viewers and explaining the angles and the cuts. You still go long periods without saying anything though. Good video.
Thanks for your reply Donald. Your bench is a great design which I have also passed on to my friend. I will upload a photo of my bench to your Facebook page when I have worked out how!
Great job, one question...why not make it 48" long versus 45"? If you are using 8' long 2x4s this would have allowed you to save on the waste of cutting two 45"s with 6" of lumber left over. Your plans are still the best I have seen. I just downloaded the PDF and the plans are missing the dimensions for the cut on the arm rest. Thank you Sir for sharing. Respectfully, Humberto
+Humberto Garcia I wanted the overall width of the bench to be 48". Once you add the thickness of the legs to the 45" it equals 48". That also gave me some leeway to cut out bad parts of the 2x4. Download the plans again, I added the arms.
I see that you decided not to put the extra 2x4 back support at the bottom. Is it because it took the comfort from the lower part of your back away? Just wondering, because I know you were thinking of adding one.
Bryon Agin My wife and I sat in it without the support and it felt very comfortable. It doesn't feel like anything is missing so I decided not to add another one.
hi i have tried this and maybe its me but please can you show a quick video of cutting the 27.5 x 22.5 angled piece as i can not seem to do it ? please help :)
Be a good idea when showing you bench building skill to do a cutting list for everyone so we don't have to keep playing back video but thank you it's great.👍
I was gona ask about measurements and plans but i see u have em on your website per your comment. I have all the tools id like to someday give it a go. Approx how many 2x4x8 did you use? I work at home depot and our 2x4x8 run about 2.75ish per board. It imagine you used at most maybe 10 boards? If i made mine for outdoor some sealer would be in order. Seems like a nice novice project for someone who has the tools. My grandfather was a cement mason and went on from there building almost anything. He was very gifted in construction and ran a lot of jobs. I wished i coulda picked up his know how and while i learned some he was a master at his craft. Id love to put his tools left to me to some use to build something creative.
This bench can be made out of 8 - 2x4's. I painted this one with a redwood fence stain and gave it to my father for Christmas. ua-cam.com/video/m4_6OPGjDQY/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Love the bench. I'm in the process of building it now. If the front support is 12 inches from the bottom, what is the distance from the bottom in the rear connection? Thanks!
glenbronco2 11 3/16" at the front of the rear leg. I just added a page to the free PDF on my website with that information. www.funwithwoodworking.com/p/downloads.html

Good day, I just purchased the pdf for this park bench. When I purchase the 8 2/4 lumber (8 ft) in what order do I cut the pieces so that I can maximize the use of the lumber and dont have wastage? This is my first diy project
I love the bench, thanks for sharing the plans, but I don't see how high the seat rests are from the ground. My wife saw the video and told me she wants one...
I would love to try and make this, but I only heard you give the angle measurements for the pieces and the lenght of the armrest. What are the measurements for each piece? I'm sorry if I missed something. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
Just take a ruler and sit on a chair you like in your home and see what dimensions you like. How high should be the armrest. How high the seat, how deep the seat, the backrest. I choosed for example 65 cm for the armrest and 100 cm for the maximum height of the backrest. Whatever you like.
hello. Can you please verify about armrest overall lenght? In the video you are saying 24” in the cut plan from the website it is different, shorter. Which lenght is to use? And the split cut is 5 1/4” long, right?
Thank you, Worked out well. As a sick perfectionist I’d recommend to cut and build everything but the armrests and then measure, cut and install armrests to the size
great video and very detailed explanations. one question: would it be wrong to make the "back" leg from 1 piece, instead of the 2 parts (the ground part and the recline part) ? thank you.
You might be bale to do that but you will need to re-engineer the design. Right now those 2 parts are not lined up. They are sitting next to each other and get screwed together sideways.
You can find them on my website here: funwithwoodworking.com/product/park-bench-with-a-reclined-seat-full-plans/ You can also find a link the description box below the video.

FunWithWoodworking : Nice bench; The plans on the site doesn’t said 2.0. Is the plan funwithwoodworking.com/product/park-bench-with-a-reclined-seat-full-plans/ is the same for bench 2.0
I found I'd already purchased the plans from you over a year ago, but never built it.. I just finished making it and it turned out great. The proportions and the style are perfect especially all the angles. Thanks so much!
I would love to make this bench! I checked your website, but the picture on the plan shows the Version 1 Bench. How can I get the plans for the Ver 2.0? Thanks
+Alissa Shreeve The plans are for the version 2 bench. I didn't realize that I used the old picture. I will get that updated tonight. Thanks for the heads up.
I modeled it in Trimble sketchup first and tried all the different angles there. I then built it and it wasn't quite comfortable enough so I made some changes and then built the version 2 that you see here.

Bought your plans and made several benches. Thanks for the nice design. Easy to build, too. Very comfortable.
I'm glad to hear it, thanks!
my grandson and I were sitting here watching this guy and I said he's actually that fast, he just kinda looked at me like noooo, funny good job guys love your work. Bill and Ethan.
Thank you very much! I am actually faster. I have to slow the video down so that you can see what I do more clearly...
I built your bench using plans given I like it . I will make small changes If i make it again. Good job
I made one of these this weekend and its definitely comfortable. Well worth the build! Thanks for the video and inspiration!
+Curtis Gauger Thanks! Please post pictures on my facebook page, I would love to see it!
looks nice! i ordered the park bench version 3 and will try it with pressure treated lumber for outdoor use.

Hi, how about using treated wood, so it would last more outside?
Personally, I don't like to make anything out of treated wood that people will make physical contact with. It just makes me nervous.

Gotta get me a miter saw. I built a similar bench with a circular saw. Cutting the 2x4 legs at a 15 degree angle wasn't easy.
It definitely makes my projects much easier.
V good quality work appreciated

I love the bench, thanks for sharing the plans, but I don't see how high the seat rests are from the ground. My wife saw the video and told me she wants one...
Ernie Pemberton Good catch, I missed that one. The bottom of the seat is 12" up on the front leg. I will update the plan later today.
Hello sir. Hope you don't mind my asking. But what type of wood was you using to build the seat.
The seat looks great by the way.
Thank you very much. I made it out of Douglas fir 2x4's from Home Depot.
I would love to try and make this, but I only heard you give the angle measurements for the pieces and the lenght of the armrest. What are the measurements for each piece? I'm sorry if I missed something. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

hello. Can you please verify about armrest overall lenght? In the video you are saying 24” in the cut plan from the website it is different, shorter. Which lenght is to use? And the split cut is 5 1/4” long, right?
I would go with what the plan says and I would make the split 5 1/2" just to play it safe.
Thank you, Worked out well. As a sick perfectionist I’d recommend to cut and build everything but the armrests and then measure, cut and install armrests to the size

excellent video, you would tell me what measures are the woods you used please. regards
You can find free measurements on my website. Link in the description of the video.
Nice.
Hi, Could you use 1x3s instead of 2x4s for the seat and back? Thanks
sand smith I think that you could but I would recommend making a brace or 2 under the seat to prevent them from sagging.
Ok just one other Q, What size screws did you use?
I used 2 1/2" exterior screws. You could also use 3" screws but I already had some of the 2 1/2's so I used them.
Thanks very much for your Help.
very nice, sturdy!
Thanks!
good job idol❤❤❤
How do you stop it from developing a rack over time? seems this design there isn't a brace of any kind.
That is what the cross braces under the seat slats are for. Between them and the top slats it creates a box. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
cool. thanks!
