- Makeing a bench for the church our homeschool group uses.
The Material List 6 - 1x6 @ 6 feet long, 7 - 2x4 @ 8 feet long and some 2" and 2 1/2" deck screws.
The Cut List 2 - 2x4 @ 72", 5 - 2x4 @ 21", 2 - 2x4 @ 31", 4 - 2x4 @ 24", 2 - 2x4 @ 25-1/2", 1 - 2x4 @ 69",3 - 2x4 @ 18-1/4", 6 - 1x6 @ 72".

hi this is just what i was looking for , my sister in-law recently passed and i'm making a bench for her for our garden , i know i should use tanalised wood but what screws should i use ? thx great job

one more thing , have you ever made a table from a tree trunk i was thinking of making one to go with the bench jut to put a coffee or a beer on
Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law, there have been quite a few people that have made this bench for memorials. As for the screws just a good deck screw will be fine. The closest thing I have done to a tree truck table would be this ua-cam.com/video/tNdz4fPacpM/v-deo.html but for holding a coffee or beer you could easily get away with a piece of truck that has nice parallel cuts and put your favorite sealer on it.

Lumber prices are insanely high right now, hopefully they they come back down so I can build some more stuff like this.
I just took apart two pallets ( I have a few more) and will see if I can make a smaller two seater version ☺️
You should definitely be able to make something similar out of pallets!

What are the measurements

What size of drill you use?
The drill bit was right around 2.5mm, I try to use a bit that's just slightly smaller then the shaft of the screw.
I made this bench in about four hours. I modified it to fit my needs and absolutely love it. I just watched several times and drew it the width, length and height I wanted. Thank you for making this easy..

hi im newbs. what paint or protection did u use ? do you have to heavely sand it first or its not necessary? thanks good job!
Just a light sanding is fine, I used a stain and a polyurethane sealer but you could also do an outdoor paint.
Yeah under 50$ to build a year ago the price of lumber is up
Unfortunately it is. I would guess it's over 10x the price now. They are getting over $80 for a 4x8 sheet of osb in my area right now.

I was thinking about making a bench for the inside of my house and covering it with foam and material as an extra seat for guest.
This would definitely work for onside seating with some nice padding!

3:45 so the weight of the bench is supported by these screws?
Yes the glue and screws are what's holding the bench up. Realistically the glue is doing the majority of the holding.
What would be a realistic price to charge for one of these in today's market?
I'm not sure to be honest, I would probably charge material plus around $60 to build it. I don't have a very good handle on what things like this are going for in today's market.

How much weight can bench hold?
It held 3 full grown adults so it should hold 600+ lbs

Been making pallet furniture for a few weeks lately. This is gonna be a nice change of pace.
I definitely prefer the look of construction lumber builds over most of the pallet furniture I've seen.
Under $50 where do you get your wood in China ? Here in Canada that bench will run me 500 hahaha
When I built this bench it was only 50, at one point in the pandemic I priced it out and it was over $300. Hopefully prices will start come down at some point.

I did miss filming a step, it was just the bracing under that goes between the legs. Hope that helps explain the odd jump there!

Absolutely! Are you just wanting to make the seat hight shorter?

That shouldn't be an issue, you would just have to shorten all of the long boards down to the size you want. I would imagine it would be a very sturdy bench shorted up.
What height are the legs set at?
The legs in the front are about 25" tall the seat hight is around 17"
Just finished one . Total about 90 bucks with really low end lumber . Still looks great
The price of lumber is way up right now unfortunately, $90 is still really good price for a solid bench!

The stain is minwax provical
Great project, just my advise would be to use the speed square to make sure your corners are square, use clamps to hold pieces together when you build alone, and pre mark and counter sink your screw holes before you assemble. Makes assembly a lot easier. For anyone putting it out doors , maybe use pressure treated lumber , but this would increase the price . Cheers

In some places pressure treated is actually cheaper!

I did sand it down with around 220 grit sand paper.

Sometimes simple is best. It came out beautiful. A thought came to me about the arm rests maybe use a 2X6 or 2X8. Thanks again.
Its a very good looking bench for how simple it is! 2x6 on the arm rests would definitely be nice, you could even cut a cup hole in it to make it even better!
Under 50??? The lumber it self is over 110 dollars. Where do u buy your wood at?
This was built almost a year and a half ago when lumber was cheap. Unfortunately with covid lumber prices have gone though the roof. When I built this it did only cost me $50 in material to make.
That thing will take 4 people to move it,lol,too much heavy wood,expensive 2x6s too.
Its really not to bad to move, I could do it by my self if it wasn't so big and awkward. Its only made of 1x6 and 2x4, I will agree that construction lumber is crazy expensive right now though.

Question, did you have any scraps? I was only able to get ahold of 7 ft long 2x4s so I was wondering if I needed extras
I had very little scraps left after the project was done. I dont remember the exact amount but it wasn't very much.

Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about the audio in this video. I make sure the audio levels are better in videos now.
wood will rot, high maintenance
As long as you put a good finish on it will be low maintenance. Wood does rot, steel rusts. If you live in a wet climate plastic outdoor furniture would probably be best.
im from MA tried diff finish, nothing works. my feeling composite material is the only solution.

Wow, that's beautiful. I especially like the straight back. All of the outdoor benches and chairs I've seen in stores have backs that are slanted. That slant is VERY uncomfortable because I'm always leaning back. I'm going to give this project a go:) Thanks for the clear instructions. Love that color stain too.

How much weight do you think it supports?
I'm not sure, I can say it will hold 3 large adults just fine. I would definitely try to keep it under 800lbs.

Nice that you used 1x6's for seat and back. All the plans I run across seem to use 2x4's. Adds to cost and weight.
I could see using 2x4 for the seat but using it for the back is really unnecessary.

I have a dog that spends time in my backyard, and loves to chew on wood. I would like to craft a tiled wooden bench using the existing metal frame from the old bench. Any ideas/suggestions? Thank you!
Leopold bench is way easier to build and only has a cut list of like 8 pieces.

@@KuipersAdventures yah, when I was looking for diy benches yours popped up then to but the leopold style was overall easier for me to make. Both styles look good though.
