That is a good job and great you mentioned outdoor glue as many people don't know you can get this outdoor glue as well as the normal glue for indoor woodwork. Great job
I loved the bench especially you walking us through each step & measurement. Was looking for the perfect build for a bench and think I found it. Thank you ❤
So sorry for the delay. I sold the bench and don't recall the exact measurements I used. I do have a link to the plans in the description though that will give you a good idea. Thanks for watching!
Why did you use exterior screws if you intended to use plugs? A detail but I have to remind myself to keep exterior screws on hand and it's simpler to use plugs to seal the screw holes.
I know this is an older post but I have a question. How do I download the plans? Every time I try to download it just takes to different pages to download and install PDF reader/viewer programs even thou I have Adobe Pro installed and then still can't get the plan download after installing 2 of the programs. So anyway I uninstalled both of the programs since they did nothing for me.
If you would like a few tips. Spend a few bucks on a plug bit, make your own plugs from the same wood you're using. Next time use a 2by for the top rail in the back and 1by for the uprights, using the table saw cut a grove 3/4" into the top rail underside and let the back support pieces go in it, also make a lower rail and do the same. The spaces in between each slat, you just cut small pieces of 1by that fits in there and the groove all but disappears. Me personally, I don't build anything with a straight back, I tilt all my benches chairs a minimum of 15 degrees. I hope this helps you consider more options for your next build, there is nothing wrong with what you made here, just a different approach that will help the quality improve.
I appreciate the feedback! There are a lot of techniques that I have yet to try. I did just get my drill press set up, so getting a plug bit is a great tip that I'll likely do. I understand the tip for the upright, but is it better than the biscuit joiner or just another technique? I also agree on the 90 degree angle. It's not as comfortable, but the space the bench will be unfortunately doesn't allow for that kind of modification. In another area, I would absolutely want an angle for the back.
I'll have to check on the bit size, but I used regular 2 1/2" screws. If you don't plan on filling the holes after and keep the screws exposed I would recommend using stainless steel screws as they hold up to weather better and won't rust.
Hi! It's a great bench, but if you have the option I would slant the back to a slight angle to improve comfort. This one had to fit on a narrow sidewalk and didn't allow for that option. However, it is still very roomy and comfortable for an evening sunset 😁
@@houseoftimbers hello sorry to bother you again...I'm going to start building this bench tomorrow...how would you go about putting an angle onnit bnb for more comfort? Thanks!
No bother, I love to help! Unfortunately my skills aren't advanced enough to know how to slant the back and maintain the same design. I've just had a few "pro's" suggest slanted backs are more comfortable. You might look at another style to achieve that. I do still think this bench is comfortable and serves great purpose if you are a beginner/intermediate like myself. Wish I could offer better advice.
@@houseoftimbers no worries I appreciate the response! I am a beginner, so I'm just gana try out your bench, either way it looks awesome and doesn't look to hard so I'll let you know how it went
To straight for lounging in you need to slant the back 15-18 degrees and the seat 5-7 degrees drop to the back to stop sliding of seat good job though well done ..
I agree. The bench was going to be placed in a walkway with limited space, so we decided to build it like this to allow for more room to walk past. However, I'll opt to put a slant in if I build one again. Thanks for the input!
Thanks for watching! Price is very dependent on the area, but I usually charge materials plus my rate per hr. Depending on location and project I might charge a markup as well. Personally, this is a $300-$350 for me.
Thanks for watching! The actual plans are not my own, I included the link for a reference point for those who may want to build the same bench. I used the plans as a guide, but chose to make the bench longer and therefore adjusted those measurements and bought 10' long boards. Hopefully that helps clear the confusion.
The rule of thumb is, never to work in the shop while wearing flip-flops.... if a heavy piece of wood or a tool falls on your foot, it's not going to be good.

I am not a skilled woodworker or carpenter. Following your instructions and watching your 2 helpers I made this bench and am very proud of my accomplishment. I encourage anyone to give it a try, it's good fulfilling project that really looks good in the backyard. Thanks for posting this. And like everyone else nice family. Doug
Thank you for this video. I just spent 4 hours building a bench using extra 2x4s that I have laying around! Thank you for the idea!
That's so awesome! Thank you for watching!
WELL DONE AND LOOKS GREAT.
Excellent visual and verbal instructions.
Thanks so much!

Wonderful job 👏 I can imagine how happy she was and very proud of you
Thank you! It was a fun project!
I gave you a like even before I watched the video because of your adorable helper!!!
Great job, gonna surprise grandma with this one. Thanks!!
I really liked how frame was build. Simple but reliable. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you for the positive feedback!
awesome build, only would do different is take your redwood saw dust and mix with glue and use that to plug the holes sanding them down when dried
Great build the biscuit jointer was a great idea, now it gives me a chance to use the one I bought for a project.
I liked that project ,plus make look so easy Thank you
Well done great job and thank you for sharing
Very good project. looks like family project.!
Really nice and instructional video

Love the Bench u mead it looks so easy
Thank you for watching!
Lovely and so neat. Well done .
Thank you! 😊
I would love t try this build. I don't have a meter saw, but I do have circular and jig saws. Would I still be able to build it?
Good job.!!!
Thank you so much!
Love the way came out after all
Nice job👍
Love the shop shoes 🤣🤓
This is really nice! Do you know the finished seat width/depth and the back height? I’d like to see if I can get cushions to fit before I build it.
So sorry for the delay. I sold the bench and don't recall the exact measurements I used. I do have a link to the plans in the description though that will give you a good idea. Thanks for watching!
Great video, very helpfull 👍
Thanks so giving this vdo please give one other easy to make it
Is this just standard internal stud work wood? Struggling to find the same looking wood in the uk... 🤷♂️ good job by the way!
Thank you! This is exterior grade redwood 🙂
Why did you use exterior screws if you intended to use plugs? A detail but I have to remind myself to keep exterior screws on hand and it's simpler to use plugs to seal the screw holes.
Fantastic Job looks great .Just one thing dont drop anything on your feet Could be painfull!
Agreed! I actually have been wearing tennis shoes in the shop more for this very reason lol. Thanks for watching!
Hello! Great bench and a nice easy build. What countersink part are you using in this video?
It's a steel countersink bit set by Dewalt that I got from HD. There are several options, and I highly recommend them. Very easy to use.

@@houseoftimbers It is certainly a much better technique than biscuits, one major reason is most biscuits are not exterior grade.
What kind of screws did you use? What did you also use for the drill bit size?

Plott Designs thanks!
I the past I did staining the same way. In the future I'm going to stain the wood before I put it together.
what type of wood is that? and how much are they?
It is redwood! With the inflation of lumber right now, the price will vary depending on your area.
I want to build one ☝🏼 those
So there’s actually 6 @ 52 in? Including the seat…

Have you got a printable plan. Dimensions❓👍😀
These are the plans that I used, thanks for watching! myoutdoorplans.com/furniture/2x4-bench-plans/
I'll get to a real computer and printer & try printing it 💪👍😲 thanks. Be in touch.
How much would this sell for?
Thanks for watching! Price is very dependent on the area, but I usually charge materials plus my rate per hr. Depending on location and project I might charge a markup as well. Personally, this is a $300-$350 for me.
9:31 That's what she said lol
But your plans said that there are eight pieces at 8 feet long. There are some discrepancies related to the video in the actual plans.

Great job, however it cost nearly $300 just for the material when you add glue and screws . Inflation!

Watching this video we can easily spot who is the man in the house. LoL. JK.
flip flops for workshop, what happened to SAFETY?
👍👍👍👍👍

I'm just leaving this here... 9:30
10:25 she realized the back of the bench is to straight to sit on; so she decided to sit on top 😆 and the whole thing hanging on screws 😒
Eek, relying on 4 screws to hold the seat up. Nice bench but not a wise design.
i like working in bare feet also
