How to Make a Beautiful Bowl from Worthless Log

- In this video, I'll show you how to turn a piece of firewood into a beautiful pierced Bowl. I rough turned the Poplar log in 2016 to a wall thickness of 25mm and coated it with wood glue ( easier to get than Anchor seal where I live). When the moisture content of the bowl didn't changed anymore i turned to its final thickness. I had a catch while doing so. but i managed to glue it back together. After the final thickness was achieved i sanded it up to p400 grit. and applied a coat of Danish oil. With a Rotary tool, i carved (pierced) the bowl with random shapes. Sadly i forgot to measure the thickness of the bottom so I couldn't finish turning the foot. I coated the Bowl with 2 coats of Danish oil afterward.
Thank you very much for watching!
Big thanks to all my patrons especially Larry Radcliffe and Sithis Michaelis!

Es una hermosa pieza, es usted un maestro del torno 👏👏👏👏👍👍
This is the most amazing bowl I’ve seen on UA-cam yet. It’s the STANLEY CUP of bowls 👍
The internal blank is such an amazing idea. Never seen it before but it makes total sense.
Thank you for sharing this, love what you're putting out.
Thank you James! I'm glad you got something out of this video!
Thats..... wow man.. gorgeous! So intricate, delicate and fragile. And, of course, beautiful. I hope it doesnt break as its drying out. Very, very nice.
Thank you very much! It's been drying for almost 2 years I think it was quite dry. Anyhow I discovered a little warping when I got to the final "thickness"
That is just gorgeous, so fragile! Lacy, or like the jungle. Spectacular.
Thank you!
Beautiful finished project, another challenge, one thing I might add, when gluing up cracks I use my shop vac on the opposite side to suck the glue through .
Thank you very much! Yeah that works great!
Wow, what a great idea! Just have to remember it next time I have a crack to deal with.
A coat of glue on the bowl for drying. I never thought of that. Thanks for the tip. Nice job, I think that I will make one.
Thank you very much Lawrence!
Que hermoso cuenco, sin duda alguna eres un magnífico artista, con ganas de tenerlo adornando el comedor de mi casa, es una pieza estupenda. Que talento
A brilliant piece of work, you've got the Patience of a saint! waiting all those years. And you don't look a day over 1850
Hahahaha! Thank you very much!
Killer work. I've never made a bowl and this kind of work makes me want to. Thanks!
Thank you very much! Yes making bowls on the lathe is not that interesting, but this carving thing gave me so many ideas...
Ollari's First step for me. Get a lathe.
Stunning piece
Thanks!
Very nice! You are one patient dude... That came out awesome!
Thanks!
You are an artist first and a brilliant woodworker second. Well done!
Thank you very much!
Some delicate yet beautiful work on that project. Nicely done!!
Wow... That's beautiful! You're a real artist.
Thank you very much Adam!
You're welcome! I have one question - and I feel very stupid for asking this, or rather for not knowing the answer already - but why did you cover it in a layer of glue to sit for a while (2,000 years LOL... ) ? Did that have something to do with its moisture content/drying? Thanks again! - Adam
There are no stupid questions, i use the glue to seal the wood,so that it dries out slow and evenly. I like to keep them for a year like that.
Sebastian, that is absolutely stunning! I’m so amazed at how delicate that work must have been. Just beautiful!
Thank you very much Bernie!
Wow Seb ! Very nice, precise and detailed ! Thank you
Thanks a lot Remy!
What a delicate work of art. Can you imagine the amazing light patterns that would shine over an entire room, were it a pendent or nightlight shade. ohhhhhh😲😲😲
I love the bowl and its organic look. Very cool!
Thank you very much!

That's a beauty of a bowl.
Thank you!
Holy bowl! Pretty work!!!!
Thank you for showing issues - as all us have them and solve in the different ways, sometimes we just need to throw away unfinished broken piece
incredible! u should win an award for this
Thank you very much!
Wow! You make it look easy. It’s a beautiful work of art! ❤️
Thank you very much Rebecca!
I really like the giraffe pattern. This was so peaceful to watch.
Thank you very much!
Excellent work. While you were doing the holes on lathe , I expected it to brake. It was bending and look so fragile.
Nice work! I will have to try that once my shop is back together. Thanks !!!
Thank you! Are you doing a renovation?
Not on the shop exactly, but the house. I had to replace my shop building because of flooding from Hurricane Harvey. So it is being used for storage at the moment while the house is getting worked on from flood damage. Once the shop is back in order I'm hoping to finally start a UA-cam channel as well.
So sorry to hear that! I hope you get everything in order soon!
Thank you!!!
Stunning work!!
Thanks!
Absolutely awesome, such creativity. turned a near disaster into a work of art Bravo.
Thank you very much! I'm happy that I could save it.
Fantastic and gorgeous. You are an artist!
It's an amazing piece of artistry. Unfortunately (perhaps), many who see it would not appreciate the amount of work involved.
Thank you very much! Fortunately everybody seems to like it!
Dieser ganze Haufen Arbeit hat sich wirklich gelohnt.
Ein echt sehr schönes Stück ist das Ergebnis.
Toll gemacht.

Nice little bowl, I also couldn't help but notice the carbide tools from TommyG Workshop. I have a full set of them and use them on almost every piece I turn.
Thanks! Yes, they work great!
Beautiful. Nice work.
Thank you!
Stunning. I've never seen this technique and think it's awesome. (The termites here in Louisiana could accomplish making the holes in record time)
Hahahaha! Thank you!
Wow! Love your work!
Thank you!
What a unique piece! Nice job!
Thank you Bruce!
In all the woodturning videos I've watched, people have their lathes in their workshop, and the stuff flies everywhere and gets on everything. I thought, "Why don't they have the lathe in a small space of its own?" Your space is exactly what I had in mind. Well done! Wow! That turned out to be an incredibly beautiful bowl. Great job!
Thank you very much Miley!
Only one word, Exquisite!
Gorgeous work Seb!

Great work but some where imperfect. Thanks for sharing.
Why does it need to be perfect? Nothing in life is perfect. Heck, none of us is perfect. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Dear friend, i wrote that comment in order to improve your work in a better way. Not to insult your work. I like and respect your hard work.

Great work and video, I will that on my bowl.
Patience I do not have. Nice work!
Thank you! Honestly, me neither... I know it doesn't looks like that.
That is beautiful and delicate. What if you put it in a clear resin and then polish it. It would look like it's in its own glass case.
beautiful work, nice job.
Thank you very much!
Now THAT's a thin bowl! Really well done though bud, and I'm loving the pattern - Much patience shown!!! :D
Thanks a lot Matt!
Nice piece. I think I will try something like that soon.
Thanks Cammie! Have fun!

I Liked it....
Thank you very much Michael!
Very delicate piece! Great video. : )
Thanks! ;)
Very cool. I recognized that “Dremel” tool - we got one at Sams Club (more bits than the Lidl one). Very nice use of some good old wood, your lathe.
Lovely wooden sieve you made there !! Only joking. That was really beautiful. Great work man.
Thanks! 😂
Nothing short of stunning! And man, do you have patience waiting 2000 years to finish it off! lol
Haha! Actually it was just 2. Thank you very much Pete!
