It looks like a desert painting. I mean it looks like I could just walk into it. You turned it in such a way that you captured all the wood’s beauty, but left it open to interpretation. If you ever do something similar again, I would be curious to see if streaks of blue and white would create a sky effect. Brilliant work.
I've seen people try to use color in resin to try to make it look like sky or water before, but I've never seen it look convincing. Either they are trying to use too much, intending to enhance the look, or even the most minute amount of dye is too much for the effect to come across realistic looking. Either way I have never seen it successfully accomplished.
This is the fairest magnificent beautiful museum piece you have done it so far I really love it you did it all thank you please do add more artistic like this
4:10 - That's what Mr. Ives' wife said! 7:08 - That's what the young boy actor said about Mr. Ives. That is a beautiful piece of wood. It reminds me of a 1948 Hudson dashboard. And the bowl is museum-worthy. Great job!
Thank you very much Samantha, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I like to use recycled materials where possible, I even keep the little offcuts of wood like this for making smaller things when the creative urge takes me that way. Cheers Jim
Thanks mate, glad you like it, definitely my personal favourite turned project that I have done. It was one of those special pieces of wood that I was saving for something worthy. Cheers Jim
Thank you Jim for your twist on our local wood. It is one of our hardest woods and most beautiful. That blank would have set you back a couple of quid. Cheers mate Roger 🇦🇺.......
Thank you very much Roger. Yes certainly the most beautiful wood I have ever turned and one of the hardest, hopefully I did it justice. I can’t remember what I paid for it but it wasn’t cheap and I have been hanging on to it waiting for an extra special project like this one. I have kept all the offcuts too. Cheers Jim
I have been watching videos of folks turning various projects for the last 3 or more years and have not seen anything to compare with this bowl. Superlative design and execution. Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us. Regards from the Central Valley in California, USA.
Thank you very much Alan, I appreciate your very kind words. I was very pleased with how this one turned out and the preparation was worth the effort. Thanks for watching. Cheers Jim
I've mentioned before on other channels that I've always been in two minds about resin works. However this is just a fantastic piece that is totally reliant on the resin work. A beautiful bowl from a beautiful burl, but then completely transformed into a story of bowl making and woodturning on a lathe. The clear view tells so much of the makers story. Just Fantastic - be very proud Jim that is excellent!
Thank you very much Catherine. Yes the resin savers certainly save money and as you say better for the environment, and using lower volumes means that there is less chance of the resin overheating as it cures. Cheers Jim
It's not only your favorite piece ever, I think this is one of my favorite turned pieces by anyone ever as well. As a pipemaker I work with briar burl alot, but this brown mallee is rather similar and simply stunning to look at!
@@JimsonMakes of course - I just got my first lathe 2 days ago and did my first turning today. Hope to ascend to such a skill as you have achieved someday!
BEAUTIFUL!!! You have opened my eyes to a great new technique. I love working with resin and I love to turn wood. I have combined the two to make some little spinning tops for my kids in the past but have never contemplated what you have done. Thank you very much! Keep it up please.
I can't help but to share your videos too. Hopefully, you'll get some more Subs from the States. Now I've got to find myself some of that Burl you used on that beautiful bowl. I bet it would make for some very nice Knife scales also.
Thank you very much Rodney. I really appreciate your very kind words. It is certainly my personal favourite piece that I have turned, I was very nervous about spoiling this precious piece of wood. Cheers Jim
