Great video! Glad I could help with the process.
If you look at 6 piston front and 4 piston rear billet alloy race brake setup for another option.
I used Vari racing brakes. 375mm front and 355mm rear.
If you go the 365mm you can fit standard 18" wheels over 6 piston setup.
They are a direct bolt on and cost 4k us for a full set up from Australia. I run them on my caprice.
Awesome , never knew about that option! good to know theres other potentialy easier ways to get some big brakes
Great video! I have 6th gen ZL1 6 piston i want to put on my G8.
Thanks for the video. You helped me out with this information.
Can you clear an 18” wheel with the 1LE Brakes?? Curious to know
I wasn’t able to clear the 18’s I had to get 20’s
Did you end up doing a rear caliper & rotor upgrade? If so do you recall what you did?
How much did you spend in total and have you ordered the correct 10mm spacers to see how much more it will bring the tire in?
Attempting to do the same on my G8 GT but bolts from the original caliper bracket are just spinning inside the new zl1 caliper and not tightening
Do you still have the old pads and rotors I’m in fort Myers
Hey, yeah I’m gonna hold on to them for a little bit though. I can let you know if I decide to let them go
will those modifications be necessary on a 14+ caprice also?
That’s a good question, I imagine they would but not certain since mines a 2013
So your hat part number only pulls up complete discs. Do you have another number?
I’m wondering?…. I have the 18” grand sport corvette wheels. You said they didn’t clear your 18” wheels. Was it purely a diameter clearance issue? Was it close to where you could probably get away with a slight grinding on the caliper’s edge to make fit or was it way off and no way could make work with modifications? Also do u know the inside diameter of your Camaro wheels? Might be slight difference between the inner diameter of the grand sport wheels vs your Camaro wheels. Great video. Love the attention and communication of the details you found.
Mine was diameter issue with the 18’s , I don’t think I could have ground the calipers enough to force it.
Awesome thanks for the reply. I picked up a complete front and rear set of C7 ZO6 brakes and going to somehow make them Work on my 2001 GMC Jimmy (Blazer).
i just bought this car, were there any issues when you got rid of it?
Nice, miss that car. Not really. It had a small oil leak where the oil gauge was connected by the filter , but ran pretty good and had cold ac
On my opinion, is more easy to switch at 1le spindle or the cost of the hats is similar?
I hadn’t thought about that, guess depends how much those spindles are. I found the hats relatively cheap about $100 for both hats
@@repairandsharegarage which store you got those hats, I buy the same set up and I’m ready to install but I see the issue I will face in the install process
@@Jjorge8 nice, I was able to find a set on eBay. I just swapped to a thinner 10mm wheel spacer last weekend too , fits better for me
Hello. Thanks for the video. I just picked up some 2023 Camaro SS 4 piston brembos. Do you think they will fit a 09 G8 GT? All the forums I see are saying no only Gen. 5 brakes but the site conversations are a bit dated, Thanks in advance.
Hi, they will work if you look in the video you can see my trial and error. I had to change rotor hats and find some 10mm spacers for my wheels to fit
@@repairandsharegaragethanks for the reply. I picked up some 2021 CTSV brakes and I will change to those instead but my question is will I need to swap the hats and add the space in rear like you did in the front? The rear brakes are 4 piston so not sure if that makes any difference at all. Thanks in advance again.
Good question? It doesn’t take to much to mock up one side to check. Just swing the old caliper to the side with the line still connected. I wonder if you could swap the hubs out instead of buying the different hats if you couldn’t find any?
Where do i buy the top hats as i have these same 1lE 6th gen calipers and rotors and i wanna put them on my g8. I have weld ventura 18s in the front
I found some hats on eBay, they can be hard to find , you may even have to buy complete rotors to find the hats
@@repairandsharegarage I already got the hats from a guy on a forum and have the 1LE with the rotors installed and working
What about the brake booster. Your brake balance is going to be wayy off now
It feels fine driving so far, abs still working. Not sure if guys bother with changing the booster with this upgrade. I’ll have to research it some more
You in tenneseee? My car next
Wait, you have already sold this car????
seems like you could have flipped the hats upside down
1:08 that’s what she said.
Will the stock camaro ss 20’s clear the zl1 brembos?
I had to use a spacer for my 6th generation ZL1 brakes , 5th Gen Zl1 brakes should work without a spacer with camaro 20's I believe
