Great vid man was struggling on catching tricks into grinds when the full game comes out it be so cool if you and the guy on Instagram did a whole big tutorial for the full game.....crazy to me how easy you make this game look lol
I’ve been at it for a few hour now, I played all challenges on auto catch, now I’m redoing it on manual and oh my god!! I am so used to auto that that one extra input really messes with my brain!! I want to do it though lol, I guess it’s kinda like starting fresh huh, I used to suck but now I’m a pro!! On auto at least, lol!! ✌️❤️
HUZZAH! It makes sense now. I was clicking the sticks like in SXL and that shit never worked. You are doing the world a service with your Session videos, Papa Nightmare 🙌✌️🤙♥️
Thank you so much JL. This has helped me alot and I was doing that leg glitch landing before watching your tutorial. I understand it alot more now and thanks 😊
I wish I would have watched this before starting the story mode. Now, I have to start a new story and turn on manual catch just for 1 dumb missable achievement. Great video, by the way.
Any tips on learning timings for these. Im so inconsistent with manual catch. I'll go from landing a bunch of tricks in a row to not being able to catch anything. Every time i think i have the timing down ill suddenly hit one of these bad spells and cant land anything.
It’s all about knowing how fast or slow you flick / scoop your sticks. If you know you flicked / scooped fast, you’ll catch sooner. If you flicked / scooped slower, you’ll catch later. If you just want everything to be consistent speed, turn scoop speed and flip speed to auto (but that won’t help you in the long run if you ever play with auto speeds off :p )
thanks so much for these videos I’m finally playing the way I want to in this game and it’s very satisfying almost as close to the real thing lol maybe a filming one next?
Yup, 2 things can be the cause of this.. Issue 1: your scoop input is set to Small. Try setting to Normal. Issue 2; you have auto grind turned on. Turn Auto Grind Off
All you ever have to remember is this: back foot flick UP or Front foot flick Down to catch any flip trick that is not into a grind, slide or manual. Flip into grind, slide or manual will just be caught with the the grind / slide / manual input instead. You’ll get the hang of it, just keep practicing
enable Board Control in flip trick settings, flick front foot Diagonally Up instead of straight to the side for any flip trick. that diagonal input will dip the front of the board down and leg to appear more extended. you can increase the dip amount by boosting "Board Control Extra Pitch" in the advanced settings. Note that flicking diagonally down will rocket the board. Both methods are great for landing flip tricks into manuals / Norse Manuals
Takes practice to see when the griptape is right side up in the air. Start with getting used to the timings of the basic tricks then move on to more advanced flips. Remember that it’s always back foot flicked UP Or front foot flicked Down. Just keep at it, you’ll get there.
Love the videos they're a great help!, I've got this weird bug/glitch where when I try to 180 into manuals it auto pops out of it, do you know if it might be a setting that's messed up or something else??
a really appreciate your tutorial! it helps me a lot. I found very difficult to landing from high jump, ex 13 stairs near ny skate shop, what's the problem?
@@JLNightmarewith the weird thing that it appear to take into account foot position from start of the jump, not the landing one (for a 180 let's say) This is kind of a bug to me, hoping it will be fixed at some point.
Can you make a video on tips for remembering how to do each trick in different stances? I have memorized just about all tricks in regular stance and can do them Nollie as well (which is the exact stick movement as regular except in reverse). But for some reason I struggle with being able to remember how to do the same tricks switch and fakie. I eventually get it but it takes a couple seconds to think about the trick first as regular or Nellie then reverse the motion on the left stick. Was wondering if you have a different method of thinking about it in real time
This video does contain what you are asking for :p Think of pushing the front or back foot towards the middle of the board. So if you’re Fakie and want to catch with front foot, flick front foot down (towards middle of board)
Alright alright. Since you made this awesome video I decided to try it. Not as hard as I thought lol. Timing is one thing I gotta work on but it'll come. Another thing I got tho is when I catch something like a basic kickflip with my back foot it will kinda like rocket, like my back foot is pushing the board down before my front foot connects. Any tips?
So when you have Board Control set to Manual, you controls how Dipped or rocketed the flips are. By flicking Diagonally Up, you kind of bone the flip, by flicking Straight to the side, you level out the flip, by flicking Diagonally Down you rocket the flip
@@JLNightmare thanks for the quick reply! And I know that but it has to do with manual catch. Even if I flick a boned kickflip sometimes when I catch it the back foot stomps down and makes it rocket. After playing around for a minute it seems like it's from holding down my back foot too long because if I flick the stick real quick to catch it then it catches normal and keeps it boned.
Ah, if you hold your inputs after flicking the trick and you have No Release set for Grinds, it will auto catch and try to orient you to a grind or slide
another very helpful vid gg. I like to play on hardcore but I struggle doing any kind vairal of any kind including 180 shovs. even doing just 180s any advice on that?
When trying to front foot catch I'm pushing down on my front foot stick but my board never levels out and the front truck is always hitting the ground first. I can fix this by pushing up on the back foot stick really quick but I notice JL never has to do this. What is going on?
@@JLNightmare I may have been flicking down a bit which was making them do that. I really only notice it on variel kick/heelflips and tre flips. Hardflips look good 100% of the time.
Create a new character in the apartment (no need to delete original character) then set Catch Mode to MANUAL before you start the first mission at the shop. Do Not at ANY point change catch mode to Auto, even with a different character. You can change every other setting in the game except for that (best not to change Presets mid run since they will change catch mode even if it’s for a second)
@@JLNightmare really?? So all I gotta do is start a new character and put it on hardcore? Yeah I found a waaaaaay better way to catch the board. Use both sticks front down and back up after the flip has rotated to land. Try it it seems way more realistic then a one foot catch.
To get into switch stance, either revert by double tapping a trigger. or get off your board, then double tap Y to get on switch. Then you just do a manual across the pad. Turn board control on, then you Scoop like a Varial flip and instead of flicking straight Left (or right depending on stance) flick diagonally up ↗️or↖️

If you have any trouble with other missions, I cover all of them in video, starting with this one: ua-cam.com/video/ugj_tKYkZfs/v-deo.html
You have Big Drop Input enabled in the settings. What that means is you have to do an input to land (back foot stick Down front foot stick Up right before you hit the ground) However I do recommend disabling that setting since it comes with issues like instantly falling when you respawn and push
@@JLNightmare thanks last question I'm using manual catch to try get the trophy to turn pro do I have to do every single mission in the game to turn pro?
No you just need to do enough to unlock the EMB jam (8000exp) and beat the jam. It unlocks after you go back to the skate shop. But… I hope you set Manual catch BEFOFE you created the character.. if you had Auto catch set At All for the skater, it won’t work
Manual catch doesn't change what foot you use... Manual catch allows you do darkslide and create late flip moves... You do not need to manually catch with manual catch on. All it does it allow more creative flips....
