- I take you on a tour of my Back Garden to show how well - or not - the plants have done after the unusual harsh British Winter. We also see the glorious spirea 'bridal wreath' in full flower.
My English Garden is near the coast in North-West England, 1/3 of an acre (including the house) Zone 9a with sandy soil.

I love the way you talk. It's as beautiful as your garden. What a pleasure. Thank you, Paul.
That’s very nice of you - thank you. 🌻
I love the way the robin just follows you around like a dog 😂😂
I know - when I’m filming, looking away I never realised just how much he’s there!
Your little Robin loves you ❤
He does seem to like my company in the garden.
Greatings from Latvia 🎉❤
Greetings to Latvia 🇱🇻 🌻
I so enjoy your tours! The little Robin following you around was so sweet!
He is a cutie isn’t he! I am delighted you enjoy the tours.
How envious I am of your beautiful garden. Just shows what loving care and plenty of feed can benefit your plants. Audrey
Hello Audrey, thank you for your lovely comment - so nice to hear from you. 🌻
I'm always so grateful you take time with each plant in the videos. I immediately purchased a Spirea Bridal Wreath upon seeing yours. Inspirational!
Thank you - I am happy to hear that.
I’m also pleased you’ve got yourself a bridal wreath - hope it performs beautifully for you.
-beautiful yard
Thank you.
Sangat menyenangkan sekali bisa melihat tanaman bisa tumbuh subur kembali.
Yeay Amazing and relaxing environment
Thanks you for showing
Thank you. Yes, April is a lovely time as everything grows so quickly
Ya, April adalah waktu yang indah karena semuanya tumbuh begitu cepat
Wow, your back garden looks more beautiful 😍
Thank you so much!
TODAY PAUL, I AM WATCHING…WITH A CUP OF GINGER ☕️ TEA 😋💚💚💚
An excellent choice of beverage if I may say so. Goes perfectly with a trio round the garden. 👍🌻
I can't believe you are so much ahead of me! I gave my Russian sages to my best friend a few years ago, I don't even remember why. They thrive in her garden and she is pleased with them no ends. I have two very big spireas (Spiraea vanhouttei) in front of my house, I am going to cut them back a lot this year and see what happens. I need more light and space in that part of my garden. Thank you for the tour!
That Russian sage had better flower this year! It is looking healthy though.
I’ve just looked up your spirea - lovely big blooms - I’m sure they won’t mind being cut back hard.
I’m sure your garden will catch up and ‘overtake’ mine in a month or two when your temperatures get going and mine stay where they are 😀 🌻
What a rare treat to see you so soon after your front garden tour. Your gardens are so lovely and certainly give us something to aspire to. I can't tell you how often I go back to watch prior video's. Thank you so much for your wonderful channel! 🌻🥀🌳
You're so kind and encouraging - it's appreciated greatly. 🌸
Hi Paul, thanks for another lovely video. Nice to know others also have senior moments 😊 Am looking forward to seeing a pond video when it is in it’s glory. All your lovely plants are a wonderful encouragement to so many. 😁❤️
Hi Vicki - ha, ha - senior moments are my specialty - I forget all the plants names over Winter. 😀 The pond was very quiet last year - don’t know why - hopefully this year it will shine. 🌸
I am sure those Flowers will be beautiful and enchanting ón Summer season...Paul T's World.
Thank you for sharing your great work...Sir!
Stay safe and healthy... Paul T's World.
Thank you Zaleha, yes - things looking good - I am looking forward to doing a video soon. Have a nice week.
So nice to see a tour of your lovely spring garden!
Glad you like the tours!
Another wonderful peek inside your garden. I do hope the dahlias survived the winter, I just checked mine, new growth on some so far. And I bet the dogwood was beautiful in the snow. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Great to hear you’ve seen growth on the dahlias - nothing here so far. The dogwood are doing well and were pretty this Winter.
Lovely Gardena!
Thank you.
Beautiful tour! Your garden is on its way to a glorious spring show. We had an equally harsh winter across the pond in Virginia and I am amazed at the plants that survived.
I’m sure we’re all glad that Winter is over. I’m still to find out what has survived - keeps things interesting! Hope your garden has done well after the Winter.
Yes, Paul. Very grateful for your videos! Looking great.
Thank you! Things really growing now it’s May 🌻
Another lovely Spring garden tour. Wonderful that your tropicals survive in ground over winter.
It will be interesting how things look and what is OK once the soil warms up. Glad you enjoyed my video. 🌻
Good morning Paul thank you for another tour of your beautiful garden 👍❤️😊🙏
Hello Khay, thank you for joining me on the tour. 👍
Hi Paul most the plants looks amazing after winter . I hope all the tropical plants grow well for you they have awonderful view in october and the bird robin's sobeautiful and cute . Have awonderful day .
Hello Lina, it would be good if the tropicals do as well as last year - it was a very warm Summer. Enjoy your weekend.
I do hope your tropical plants pull through . The winter was certainly harsh on much of my garden - I lost a couple of Cordyline and a climbing fuchsia, so I’m looking for ideas to replace those. Love the Spirea at the end there - what a display! Always a joy to see your garden Paul 😊
Those cordylines shoot back from the base Lindsay, so give it a few more months before calling in the undertaker. That is if it’s a green one or even a red one - I had a small pink one that I knew wasn’t very hardy so I’m sure that’s a gonna!. So pleased you enjoy the garden.🌻
@@paultsworld they were both red ones unfortunately, and one was rotten & squishy all the way down the stem. I’ll give the other one a chance & see what happens! 👍
They might grow from the roots - even if everything above ground has had it - you could literally cut everything off above ground and wait for warmer weather - and fingers crossed of course!
Thank you for the video. Всё гармонично, сад создан с большой любовью и вкусом. ❤
That’s so nice of you - thank you. 🌻
У вас очень красивый и ухоженный сад! 👏😍🌹
Thank you very much.🌻
Fascinating to see these tropical plants, can't wait to see what happens .... the robin is definitely a scene stealer ❤❤😊😊
I can’t either - it’s been cold this last week or so so the suspense will be drawn out. 🌻
What a lovely surprise to have another video this week. I spotted the robin early on. He's under the Euonymus when you were showing us the Lamium. You must be pleased that so many tropical plants have made it through Paul and I hope your Brugmansia springs to life soon. Did I see Thalictrum next to last year's photo of the Lobelia "Queen Victoria"? I've never managed to get any germination from the seeds so it shows that you really do have green fingers.
Well spotted Wendy, I’ll have to watch the video again as I love to see him moving round the plants.
So far so good re the tropicals - still time for more to come up - or not 😀. I’m so wanting the colocasia to make it.
I’ll have to check back on the video to see which plant you mean as I don’t know Thalictrum - I’ll Google it.
WOW that is absolutely beautiful tropical garden, overall is absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you - glad you like the tropical plants - hope they do as well this Summer.
So beautiful Paul!😍 Thank you si much for sharing with us.
💚💚💚💚🪴🌵🙋🏻♀️
You’re very welcome Saya.🌻
Love seeing your gardens.
Thank you - so nice of you.
Beautiful back garden tour..... that Spirea towards the end of the video is breathtaking!
So pleased you liked the tour Ellie - that spirea was on special offer at a garden centre for a ridiculously low price. It was small but perfectly formed!
I am so happy to see jour garden. I have a question. How do you protect jour dahlia in the earth in the winter. Because you don,t left them.
@@hanhanckmann9121 I just leave them in the ground - I put a mulch over them and hope for the best. Some of them have been OK in the ground for 20 years. Sometimes if very wet weather is forecast in Winter I will cover the bed with a tarpaulin as they don't like to be wet over Winter.
Awesome tour. Great to see all the new growth and spring blooms.
I’m always amazed at the changes each day. Glad you enjoyed the visit.
Big flowers!
👍🌻
Lovely as per usual👍💚my euphorbia characias 'Black Pearl' is looking beautiful right now despite the past frost.
Thank you Rose Mary, I don't know Black Pearl - I'll check it out. It's great when these plants shrug off the frost and are looking good already. 🌻
Hi Paul. Certainly most enjoyable, you have me in fits of giggles with your risk taking 😄 and you always get away with it. What a stunning garden ❤. Best regards to that cheeky Robin 🙋♀️
I don’t think I’ll totally get away with it this year Kim. 🤞 will be exciting to see what does come up. The Robin says hi. 🌻
Truly lovely garden Paul
Thank you Anees. 🌻
Very beautiful garden !
Thanks!
❤❤❤🎉😊
👍🌸
Omg, hope my lamium grows as vigorous as yours. Marsh marigold, stunning pop of yellow color. Oh, paul, your angel trumpet plant didn't like the cold. Of course, the little robin. Nice, your banana sure is a hardy plant .Beautiful ground cover plant through the back garden.
I’m sure your Lamium will spread well - I’ve been delighted - my sister bought a small one last April at the same time as me and hers is also spreading well.
Fingers crossed for the brugmansia!
You have a very entertaining and educational show. I love your tropical bed, don't panic about your brugmansia aka Angel Trumpet. I grow many of these in various heights and colors of trumpets. I live in South Carolina, USA zone 8. In the fall I cut these back to the ground and mulch them heavily. Last winter it dropped to 8 degrees (-13 celsius). Luckily mine did survive and they are just starting to shoot up from the root system.
That’s really interesting how you deal with the brugmansias - I should have done what you do and cut down to the ground - I tried mulching round it but the badger swept the mulch away looking for worms. I’ll try that next year.
Happy Spring Mr Paaul Martha here form Canada. Happy to see you this early spring. We are still having snow. So i am readybto garden with you
Thank you and greetings Martha.
I hope your snow melts soon and you can enjoy your Spring as well as mine. 🌻
I very much enjoyed the banana mini drama.
I just picked up a dwarf Cavendish for a steal of a deal!
I love dramas - but prefer them on TV 😄
Well done getting a cavendish - they are a little bit tender but I’ll bet it will look great this Summer.
The music,いいですね,hahaha……
Glad you liked my music choice. 🎶
Good Morning, Paul, Things are going well in the back garden! The music you chose was very amusing. Love the little red assistant landing on the plant as you were describing it, quite the showbird. Ironic isn't it, you finally get to make a tropical garden and wham, coldest winter in years! To tell you the truth, I have been quite alarmed by how mild your winters have been previously. It wasn't right, (in my opinion) Two or three minor frosts a year wasn't sounding normal to me even though you live on the coast. May your Spring sunshine warm the soils of your bananas and cannas! 🌞
Hello Margaret, I normally just follow the robin - he choreographs the tour.
Actually my very first gardening video was inspired by an orange tip butterfly flitting from plant to plant so I followed it and chatted - and suddenly I had a gardening channel!
It’s true, we didn’t have a Winter here last year - probably the mildest ever where I live. It’s all down to the jet stream and where it drags the highs and lows. If a high doesn’t pass at a certain latitude to drag cold northerly air from the Arctic we get constant South-westerly or westerly winds and it’s almost impossible for the West coast of Britain to get a frost if the wind is coming off the Atlantic Ocean from that direction - particularly with the Gulf Stream bringing constant warm water from the Caribbean straight to my little garden 😄. That’s my theory anyway! 🌻
How exotic does the warm winds from the Caribbean sound! I want that in my life. 😆
That Gulf Stream is a godsend to Britain - everyone should have one!
Enjoyed the tour
Thank you! 🌻
Yes, my very established E. Mellifera here in the South East looks as dead as a dodo too. All the stems now cut down to the ground but I'll give it a couple more weeks before I dig it out.
Well if yours was established and still might not survive then mine will find it difficult as it was its first Summer and my other was in a pot. I’ll do the same as you but I might leave it a bit longer - optimistically!
Hi. Brilliant video 😊. The bridle wreth looks wonderful. Good to see plants coming up, including the banana. I put some tender plants in my garage and shed, lost the lot! It will be interesting to see if any of the dahlias I left in the ground come up.
So sorry you lost the plants that were in the garage. But don’t give up on things too quickly - some of the experts say wait till at least June.- growth can come up from the roots. I’ve never had a problem with dahlias in the ground but this year I’m a bit nervous - particularly as my two favourites- moonfire & bishop of Llandaff are slightly more tender than many others.
As ever, your garden is light years ahead of mine. Winter was cruel and Spring not really warm; the soil has warmed up yet. Will you get another brugmansia? I've seen many colours and it's a stunning plant. Lovely to see your blossom. Thanks Paul
Hi Wendy, at least the temperatures are rising a bit now - surely no more frosts!
I have some brugmansia cuttings I’m trying to get going - the one I’ve got is a bit tricky but one or two should make it.
The plum blossom is still out and I can see the apple breaking through. I’m trying to distract the bullfinches from the blossom by providing plenty of sunflower hearts. 🌻
I love your garden. I’m always amazed at what can survive a so-called harsh British winter! Her in NE Ohio, zone 6, we are just starting to count up our losses.
I know Laura - you have 'real' Winters and I call ours 'harsh'! For me anything below 32f is getting on the harsh side. 😀
Hi Paul, the back garden looking good, spirea is spectacular, have a lovey weekend. ❤👍
Thank you Helen, this weekend is looking good! 🌻
@@paultsworld yep it's going to be good much warmer Saturday thank goodness 🙌
It's been a long time coming - so much to do!
Hey Paul🙂
I always enjoy seeing your back garden.
I love the variety of plants you have in (to me) such a big space.
Love the bridal wreath, maybe I will add this plant someday to my new garden to🥰
Maybe as a part of a double row of native hedging for our local birds.
Last Friday I went to the garden centre and bought soil for my hydrangeas, like you recommend.
I also unexpectedly bought a forsythia mikador and lacecap light-o-day hydrangea I didn't really needed😂
But they look good in the area where I put up my rose arch that same Friday.
I will let a native dog rose grow over the arch and continuing on the house wall, since they can grow up to 6 metres in length👍🏻
I'm editing a lot of upcoming videos for my channel, including putting up the rose arch👌🏻🌹
Hi Titia, double row of native hedging sounds really interesting- I’ll look forward to see what plants you choose.
Ha, ha - everyone needs a lacecap light-o-day hydrangea! Your plants will love the fresh compost you’ve bought - keep it well watered and you’ll be amazed at how quickly they’ll settle in.
I’ll check out your new videos. 🌻
@@paultsworld thank you, Paul. I would appreciate that🙂
I took hawthorn, blackthorn, elderberry and flowering current cuttings last fall/winter. I will use them for the hedging.
When you enter the garden, there is a row of small non-native trees (aside from one elderberry).
And I like to replace the non-native ones over time with the native ones and planting shrubs like the light-o-day or bridal wreath in front of it.
It will be so useful for my new bird friends and pretty to look at😀🥰❤️
That's a nice set of trees and shrubs - they will grow quickly for you - and the birds.
Your Weigela is looking amazing Paul 🥰
It flowers red - I'm looking forward to the show Jasmine!
Spirea is absolutely stunning . Tropical plants are hardy in your location, is sign of changing climate.
@2:10 -Euonymous looks great in this natural shape. How big does it grow and can it be left unprunned ? I have a same one in same shape and I love it.
The tropicals that can’t take any frost wouldn’t survive but it appears many can manage growing from their roots - I’m testing to see what can.
I think the euonymus can grow very large - as you say I tend to leave it and only take off growth that’s getting untidy - or is reverting to green. They can climb other plants and get quite tall. I find if you prune it it produces lots of thick growth and new leaves which also looks nice.
Hello love your tropical garden Paul gave me idea 🤦🌹🌹🌹
That’s interesting Rebecca - I wonder what you’re going to do?! 👍🌻
@@paultsworld me too,😁😁👌

Paul! Everything is looking great. A lovely Spring to you. My Musa Banju died as it was in a pot😢
Thank you Susan. 💐
Sorry to hear about your banana plant.
Is there any possibility it will shoot from the roots in a month or so when it all warms up?
@@paultsworld I’ll hang in there and we will see !
Definitely - give it a good chance - good luck
Thank you for this very enjoyable video. I would hedge my bets if leaving some marginally hardy plants outside. If your Brugmansia is like my white Angel’s Trumpet you can cut off a few branches and stick them in a jar of water (change it occasionally) and they will root over the winter. Just in case. I like your Persicarias which are pretty impossible to get in USA. I especially like thatDragon one! I think it’s because they are in the same genus with Japanese Knotweed and so e other thugs so everybody just goes, “Nope!”
Glad you enjoyed the video Lauren. Thank you for the excellent advice on brugmansias - I did as you suggested, so fingers crossed.
I am just learning about the persicarias - about to find out how easy they are to thin out!!
ne güzel rengarenk bahçe sizin orada çok yağmur yağıyorsa ortanca çiçeğini öneririm bahçeniz kusursuz mükemmel türkiyeden sevgiler selamlar😀
Thank you. Yes, you are correct - hydrangeas do suit my garden as there is usually enough rain. Greetings to Turkey
Thank you - looks as though many plants have survived the Winter.
Ευχαριστώ - ελπίζω για το καλύτερο και έχουν επιζήσει από τον χειμώνα. Καλό Πάσχα να έχετε. 🌻
have u got conifers paul....one of mine has a brown patch..right when a shrub was growing.so i took the shrub out that seemed to be causing it,,will see what happens
Yes, I’ve got conifers. It probably won’t grow back from the brown patch so I’d cut the brown off and see if greenery from another bit will grow over the bare part.
paul this year i want to buy a yellow pot filled with yellow plants ..flowers spring ,summer and autumn .i got daffodils for the spring..any ideas on the yellow
I have doronicum - they start flowering early and continue right through Summer and maybe early Autumn.
le jardin redémarre doucement , encore un peu de patience
C’est vrai- le Printemps devient de plus en plus - vite mais aussi lente - génial
Brugmansia regrow from the roots every year.
Thank you - it’s my first test with one left in the ground.
Hi Paul, what do you mean with chicken pallets? Chicken poo based garden pallets or literally chicken pallets?
I was wondering that too?
Hi JV, I buy chicken pellets in a tub. It is chicken manure that has been dried and made into the shape of a small pellet. It’s a good feed because it is a non-chemical fertiliser and carries a lot of goodness.
Check out my links in the description as I have one for chicken pellets under the UK section so you can see what I mean. I really recommend them.
Hi Julie - check out the answer I’ve just given JV. Chicken pellets are a good, convenient feed.
@@paultsworld thanks Paul will do they sound good
Hi Paul I think I’m following you too closely if I’m honest as my garden is turning into a replica of your garden but on a much smaller scale. I bought a Weigela Bristol Ruby last year as a small plant and I’ve put it in my new allotment. Can you tell me if they require any special soil or treatment as it seems to be very slow to grow, I’m not even sure if it’s still alive!!!
Good afternoon, I don’t do anything special with the weigela but it has been there for quite a few years. I have fed it a bit - mostly because of the plants around it. When I feed I just use the normal things such as chicken pellets or bone meal.
I hope yours is still alive - fingers crossed.
That’s nice that you’ve seen in my garden plants you fancy for yours. That makes me happy.
@@paultsworld thanks Paul I’ll try scraping a bit of the stem at the bottom today and see if it’s still alive.
Fingers crossed!
Hello, what are the plants at 2:25 on the border called?
They are foxgloves. (Digitalis purpurea)
They self-seed round the garden and so I move them to where I want them - they flower beautifully in June
It wasn't a harsh winter. It was average.
Are you talking about England?
angels trumpet 150% will come back😂
🤣👍
