Glad to see CVA covering the basics...and wow, I cant believe someone could allow their plug to actually rust shut like that. Makes me wonder what some of the MZ rifles look like like that you get back in the warranty department.
You would be surprised what happens to some muzzleloaders. I once shot Pyrodex through one and didn’t clean it for the rest of deer season. That plug rusted so bad I never got it out, my gunsmith and another gunsmith couldn’t get it out. I gave it to a friend who was willing to buy a new barrel for it. I went to a Wolf and it’s so easy to break down for cleaning there’s no reason not to clean it
I just bought my first cva muzzleloader a week ago and shot it for the first time last Friday and sun and cleaned it a couple days ago most of it was straight forward but I wasn’t sure how to clean my breach plug thanks so much for the video and the explanation
This is so cool. Im just getting into shooting black powder. I got my CVA ifle deliverrd yesterday, and cant wait to get home to see it and start to shoot with it. Me and my shooting buddy are just now getting into it. We're doing this as its so hard finding reloaing supplies for out regular rifles. But it seems like this is going to be so fun.
@@MaxwellBenson80 You can if you want. But ultimately only if necessary. A old toothbrush and some compressed air helps too. Don't forget to add some more anti-seize after you clean the plug.
The one that's rusted soak in rust dissolver for a couple of hours then use the pick to work rust out, once opened use pick to get more dissolver in the hole, let sit for a while rinse and blow dry very good,
I wanna see more cleaning videos for cva muzzleloader I got a cva wolf i keep clean I had it for 2 years and Its still new and I keep it clean and take good care of it
I just soak mine in straight up hot water and dishwasher soap. Then wipe it down with hoppes no 9 cleaner and blow out the primer hole with am aerosol can.
When I bought my optima about 10 years ago, the paperwork that came with it said use white hots pellets. DO NOT DO THAT !!! I use 100 grains Jim Shokey's gold, 2sticks. 50 cal. 195 grain power belt green base. 3 inch group at 100 yds all day long. Brush out the bore after 6 rounds, very little residue. White hots, 3 rounds all over the place at 25yds. Brush bore after 3 rounds, enough residue to make another pellet. Put alot of meat in the freezer with this combo.
i always soaked mine in a acetone bath, and used the nipple prick to clean the hole. afterwards i put a hairdryer on it to insure it’s dry. never knew there was a drill bit for the breech .
Why would it not be possible to use the ( Proper sized ) drill bit to clean out the rusted shut breech plug ? Of course I can see the problem with drilling one out to a larger size.
@@donwhitley8745 One that fits the hole, you only want to clean it out, never enlarge it. A cutting torch tip cleaner works great too, but if it's rusted shut you probably can't push it through the hole. That's why the drill bit.
Hi...new to in-line muzzleloader. I bought a used CVA Accura and I have have a questions. When looking through the breach plug and barrel "field stripped of course" am I suppose to see clearly through them both?
If the Breech plug is clean, you should be able to see straight through it. After you have finished cleaning it, shoot a primer through the breech plug on an empty barrel. That will flush out any debris that may be left.
Some folks hate the smel, but, Ballistol is the BEST thing out there to clean black powder weapons. PERIOD. Spray a little tiny bit and the residue or fouling just melts away.
I would like to see a video on when the action gets stuck closed and won’t open. I was cleaning my CVA Accura with the break open and the breech plug removed, also my hammer was pulled back. I closed the action and now the hammer won’t release and the action will not open. I cannot find a video anywhere on how to deal with this issue. I will call BPI Outdoors tomorrow when they open but I was hoping to find a video on this issue.
I aquired a old super rusty muzzleloader from a friend and the plug has rusted and sealed the hole. I've got the rest of the gun cleaned up alright but the hole is still sealed
@@CVA ps I see the part but I could use product detail so I can buy these tools at Home Depot or Lowe’s or elsewhere. Thanks. It’s a machine tool not a weapon so hopefully you can help with that. I don’t want to overdrill parts with wrong sized equipment

Need a breech plug to be able to clean it!😜 Still waiting for my prepaid Accura LRX 45 and Paramount 40. Any idea if and when stock will be sent out to retailers?
I'm sorry your dealing with that @Terry Chapman & @Joseph Benedict. I'm sure you're itching to get your kit set up. Arrival time depends on where you've ordered you muzzleloader from, but we have some .40 Cal Paramount Pro's that should ship out in a week or two. Not sure I understand why that person drilled out his/her breech plug and got the blow-back? If the breech plug was drilled out and there was a path for the flame, why then the blow-back? Good video, thanks for taking the time to make this. Peace
The flash hole they drilled was significantly larger than the original. Probably not so much a problem that they drilled it but rather the size of the resulting hole.
To me it's just plain stupid someone would drail a hole in the breech plug and get a ton of blow back , to me some people just to lazy to clean there guns and muzzleloaders they see rust and try to drail it out and that happens
Automatic transmission fluid that has detergent in it will clean it just drop it in,......it will take a while I'd leave it for a month, if not a year but it would be like new.

If you can get the threads on the broken spur out, a temporary fix would be a 3/4" stainless steel machine screw...they are less than a dollar at the hardware store...just make sure you get a stainless one and add a drop of Locktite so it doesn't fall out.

Same procedure with the NW breech plug?
