27:30 Games should always stay true to their predecessors. Which means games like Dragon Age - which has always been RTwP - should always be RTwP. Same for series with turn based or Action. Whatever the series established in the first titles it should stay that way.

Not gonna lie, when I saw the news about Soul Reaver remaster, the first thing I did was check if chill up had released the weekly news a few minutes before! I'm glad this time Sony had the decency to give the news before you're finished with the episode man!
Same. But I played the original again recently, and I only got a few min in. The controls were unbearable to me. So I was really hoping for a remake.
I think it's a really bad trend of remastering games that aren't that old. Companies would rather rerelease a game than develope a new one. Remaster games that are older and forgotten.... that's kinda the idea. Not a game from 2017
I agree. Shadow* of the Colossus got a remaster from PS2 to PS3, and then an absolutely amazing remake from PS3 to PS4. That's how it's done. Horizon doesn't need a remaster for another console generation minimum. Hell even crash Bandicoot got a remaster. Ps1 to PS4. That shit makes sense. Horizon is a clear cash grab. The same with the last of us they pulled like a year ago
It's probably because of the movie or tv show or whatever for Horizon just like The Last of Us and the show. They're doing what Bethesda/MS should have done when the Fallout show hit instead of that fucking awful (at least on PC) FO4 "next gen" update.

Horizon has a cool theme but a mediocre execution.
Hell I feel the same way about a lot of Sony IP, they always start out strong with the first game but fall off massively with the sequels.
God of War seems to be the only exception I can think of.

About God of war PC port, another reason why player count is lower. PLAYSTATION GEOBLOCKED many countries, i have finished original God Of War on steam, but because Playstation now requires PSN and PSN is not available in Lithuania (European Union, Nato country), sadly i have to skip this game on steam because i cannot buy it on steam, its simply not available (i have no problem registering at PSN if it was available in the first place).

That is the biggest reason and I'll add, at least for me, I bought the game because the GoW 2018 port was fucking great so I wanted to support the sequel day 1. I have not played it and probably won't play it for a few months at least. CCU numbers for years late ports is such a weird thing to even talk about.
Well, in your case, you're justified in pirating it. It's been cracked and available for download for anyone in the world to play, without needing PSN.
It's so fucking dumb because ALL their previous ports before Helldivers are still available for purchase. God of War, the Spider-man games, Last of Us. It's such an arbitrary decision, it's INFURIATING.

I think people forgot that Sony banned 170+ countries from buying God of War Ragnarok because of Playstation Account requirement. I think that has something to do with the low sales. People in those countries bought the first God of War and are exited to buy the second one, but they cant. So Sony kinda shot themselves in the foot there.

@@ramonvanweerlee9960 it's a common enough mistake made between regions and countries, as well as the fact that the original list of countries that saw Helldivers 2 and GoW Ragnarok removed, included those who had at least partial coverage.
Can't recall if they changed this or not, but this is just what I recall off the top of my head, although I will gladly look more into it later.

I never understood the hype for Palworld, everything I saw made it look pretty mid. That being said, I’m all for it getting a lot of success and knocking some sense into the Pokémon company. Will that actually happen though? I’m not holding my breath.
Palworld is a Survival game, it's Ark Survival Evolved with guns and Pokemon. How is that competition to Pokemon, like at all? Why are we not celebrating the many indie and AA monster catching games instead, like Cassette Beasts, Dragon Quest Monsters or Yokai Watch?

I'm half expecting that AC:Shadows was delayed to February, not realizing how stacked it already is. Once February is closer, I like to think they'll delay until later in the year, just to have Sucker Punch announce their release of Ghost of Yotei in the same week to watch Ubisoft's brains explode in frustration.

The only saving grace for Ubisoft is that Ghosts is a PS5 exclusive so it's guaranteed sales on Xbox and PC since people will be in that "samurai" mood thanks to ghosts.

Well they are working on a new one I believe,the vr version is vertigo games so it won't slow down production on the "normal" metro game. I'm very excited about it,metro is one of the most atmospheric gane series out there and in vr it eill be amazing.

I completely understand remastering games from 20+ years ago. Sony is trying to remaster games from - quite literally - just one console before the current. Just grab your copy of Horizon Zero Dawn and pop it into your PS5. Done.
I was looking forward to GOW Ragnarok for like 2 years lol, but now I can't buy it because PSN isn't available here. It's really frustrating. And when I saw the horizon remaster I was actually convinced (for some reason) but I can't buy that either. It's too bad excluding so much of the world is unlikely to affect their bottom line very much. I guess I should just forget about Sony games for the foreseeable future.

We will unironically be playing Ghost of Yotei remastered before seeing a Bloodborne remaster. Tthere is just such a deluge of remasters and remakes coming out now, and the fact that the one game in their library of exclusives that actually desperately needs a remaster is just continually ignored feels like a slap in the face at this point. Like are you fucking allergic to money, Sony?

It is and people happy it failed is very gross. The people who suffer in this situation and lose their jobs are the same people who give you hours of fun and joy yet many, many people were dancing on Concord's grave because they're miserable, soulless goblins. It has to be quite deflating to spend years of your life working on something only for it to get put down for a variety of reasons. I didn't even know what Concord (terrible name btw) was until it was dead. Granted, I don't own a PS5 but I do pay attention to game news fairly regularly.
There's no reason to feel bad when the long term affects will be positive. The industry needs to see concrete examples of what happens when you let identity politics steer the ship otherwise nothing ever changes. People were paid for their time and many were mentally prepared for the game to fail, it's usually just the out of touch bosses and political activists who get blindsided by their hubris. The normal people will be inconvenienced but land on their feet whereas the activists need to be gatekept out of the industry since they obviously don't care about what the audience wants more than their own personal political ambitions. All the blame lies on them for not giving the game even a remote chance of success from the beginning, and the more eyes on this failure the more likely it won't happen in the future.

Developers regularly admit this is their goal online regardless of whether you're aware of those admissions. Just calling them "uninspired" would have the developers jumping down your throat so I don't know why you would defend groups who demean their audience.

I'll admit that I don't know all the characters, but most of them are pretty skinny or muscular, which isn't what I'd think of as "body positivity".
The character designs are bad because they're boring, they're generic, they're not cohesive, they have no personality, they don't tell you anything about their gameplay, and personally I think a lot of the colour schemes are bad.
As a Horizon fan, I can confidential say that the HZD remaster was unnecessary. Sure, it looks cool, but honestly, it could have waited for a while. Plus, I'm still kind of weirded out for the $10 fee to upgrade.
The thing is, I’ve seen almost every comment that complained still say they were going to get the 10 dollar upgrade. Sony is doing this because it sells and they can do it relatively quickly and cheaper compared to a much longer and riskier new IP. People may not like,it, but Sony knows what’s a surer way to make more money, more quickly.

@@selectionn they’re redoing the mocap for the conversations, which to be fair is a good add. HZD had surprisingly bad facial animations and direction for conversation scenes for a big budget game from 2017, especially for a Sony first party game. While it still is a waste of development resources, it’s at least adding more to the original than the Last of Us “remake” did.

GoW Ragnarok is seemingly region-locked and isn't available in countries where PSN isn't available officially. Pretty sure that also contributes to relatively low sales.
Did that last gen Jedi Survivor review just lie? The game runs at most at 30 fps in all scenarios and frequently drops below that especially in cutscenes. How would it even run at 60 if even the performance modes of current gen consoles struggle to hit it?
Edit: Nevermind. It's Skill Up that fucked up. When the out of context paragraph in the review talks about 60 fps it's referring to running the PS4 version in BACKWARDS COMPATABILITY on the PS5. Please make a comment addressing this since the way you cited that review made it sound like the last gen port actually reached 60 on last gen hardware.

@@philbarton2832 Based on the wiki, the plan was to stop around Gen 2 and expand the IP from then on. But the formula is too god to pass on I suppose. This is why we have gen 2 in Pokemon Colosseum instead of gen 3 (despite being released 2 years prior). Then the IP stayed on handhelds thereafter.

It seems you took Gamingtrend's article about Jedi Survivor out of context. They were talking about running the PS4 app on PS5, where it runs at 60 fps. It absolutely does not run at 60 fps on last gen consoles. It's 30 fps with drops below that.
No, just no.. nothing in that Veilguard bit looked any better than in the hands on preview that came out week ago but as before, will reserve judgment till later, after reviews come out and can see much more of the combat to see if it's actually as shallow as it looks and sounds or if there's more to it.
That Soul Reaver collection reveal though.. ooh boy, day one purchase, been waiting so very long.. hopefully they will remaster the Blood Omen games too + Defiance.
Horizon remaster though.. bleh, not really needed but it has been seven years so i guess it's fine?

I foolishly never expected a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, but I'm definitely intrigued by Ghost of Yotei. Looking forward to seeing what's changed in the game's systems and who we'll be fighting instead of the Mongols.
Some clarification on the Alan Wake 2 DLC: You're playing as Agent Estevez (Janina Gavankar's character as seen in the base game) not Jesse. Apparently this DLC actually takes place concurrently with the base game.

Regarding the PSN requirement for God of War. I wouldn't technically say it's about data harvesting (that's more a side benefit). If I had to guess it's about trying to get people into the PlayStation ecosystem via trophies as a way to build/force brand loyalty. You can decide whether that's better or worse, but I do feel that's the actual point of the requirement.
I'm surprised to see that we're just completely skipping over last week's Switch 2 leaks, but I guess the case can be made that it's already old news

But it legitimately looks like Palworld infringes on a specific copyright. You can read the patent itself as filed with U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: throwing a ball to capture a creature. That's some disrespect for them to have copied that exact mechanic. Why not throw I dunno a set of handcuffs, or a necklace or something instead? They chose this path by so flagrantly copying.

The Horizon remaster has either proven that Sony is so out of touch with what people want or that they genuinely just don't care what we want at this point. People have been screaming from the rooftops for a bloodborne remaster for YEARS while not one faint whisper was heard of anyone asking for this remaster.
I'm not sure how it took Horizon remaster to get to the point of Sony being out of touch. I mean just in recent times we have the whole Helldivers 2 debacle followed by Concord. You are yelling Bloodborne and all they are likely hearing is Concord 2.

The Legacy of Kain remake seems... Way too bright and clean for me... I wish they did more than just up the poly count but I understand... It had the potential to include new cut content and expand the first game but at least it's coming back. I hope modders will have the ability to add some grit to the game and change the lighting/shaders.
It's a remaster though not a remake, but yeah I agree it's a little bright. A remake would mean that they actually just full on re-made the game.

Either way, the game has lost a bit of its graphic Gothic atmosphere with the texturing/lighting.

Nothing in that trailer looked compelling. The dragon confirms what I've been saying all along: enemy design in Veilguard is completely uninspired at best and fuck ugly at worst.
Once again (just like with the Pride Demon), go back and watch a dragon battle from Inquisition. The only differences here are Veilguard's overhyped combat and a dark filter over everything. This dragon fight is not better than Inquisition.
It also doesn't negate the terrible airbrushed art style Skillup mentions here, just makes everything darker. It's not actually darker and grittier, just comes off like a caricature of it

imagine having bloodborne remaster on one hand and horizon zero dawn remaster on the other. AND CHOOSING HORIZON.
1- They probably just lost the Bloodborne source code, or else they would have updated it by now.
2- Horizon ALREADY put the time and resources into making a graphically superior sequel, all they had to do was plug in the new assets and lighting in and a tiny bit of fresh capture work. It probably took a dozen people a few weeks to do. Bloodborne would need a massive staff going over every single texture and character model and probably be a lot more expensive time and budget wise.

Both favourites to win GOTY this year are PS5 exclusives. There's other good games like stellar blade, rise of Ronin, helldivers etc but I don't mind because it's quality over quantity

That guy who did the dead rising remaster review has no clue what they’re talking about. The deluxe is a terrible game made by Capcom. It does have quality of life improvements, but everything else about it. It’s just bad. It has Denuvo so the performance is terrible.

Ralph, I know you play jokes on the news and stuff to keep the content light hearted, but the way you report shattered space sounds off and unprofessional. The bogie is not coming with shattered space, it's a free update that's out right now, what shattered space is promoting as it's main addition is a planet with full on handcrafted elements. All the story and side content will take place within a single planet. This is clearly in responce to the criticism of the flow of the game feeling disconnected when you have to hop between loadings screen to traverse between locations, so by having all in a single hand crafted planet, the experience will be more akim to fallout or elder scrolls in terms of immersion. Is starfield a 10 out of 10 game? No it isn't, and not even the people who enjoy the game pretend it is, but purposely undermining the changes coming with the expansion is not professional.

Thank you for informing me about Athena Crisis because boy did Nintendo drop the ball with Advance Wars Reboot Camp. Seriously, whose "bright" idea was it to change the unique and universally beloved art style to the at best controversial 3-d art while fixing none of the issues with the Al like it cheating in fog of war or worsening quality of life by making longer, slower unskippable animations making every action you take and therefore the entire game slower. While the art style change worked for the Legend of Zelda remake, someone really should've given it a second thought here. I know game budgets are set ahead of time so there was no changing it after a certain point but it is was very disappointing for Advance Wars ReBoot to be delayed for like a year (due to real world events probably) and none of that time used to rethink and improve those things before release.
Considering the score it got (which was relatively positive) and the lack of talk about it after release (possibly indicating at a poor sales performance), I wouldn't be surprised if it has convinced Nintendo that the problem is that the franchise just isn't popular rather than bad decisions made along the way. Even if they do decide to remake Dual Strike and Days of Ruin, I have no faith in their ability to remake those at this point. The 3D art style would seriously conflict with the tone of Days of Ruin.
The success of these spiritual successors is the last hope to possibly convince Nintendo to change their approach and stick with the series.

The PS4 version of Horizon is already gorgeous on PS5. It looks fantastic at 1440p or 4k with locked FPS. This is a waste of time and resources just to update some mildly clunky dialogue animations.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor running at 60fps on last gen consoles? Surely not. Maybe PS4 Pro, but not the base PS4. I'm really enjoying Fallen Order on base PS4 at the moment, but the performance is shockingly bad.

I feel like the answer is have a department that makes cheaper, shorter indie-style games but with a Sony budget. I don't always need to play a 120 hour open world. They usually get boring after hour 10. But they take 30 years to make and cost the amount of a NASA rocket. Animal Well was the best game I played this year. Not Stellar Blade.
Concord supposedly cost 8 years of time and $400 million whereas Black Myth Wukong took like a quarter of that time and budget. This shows the problem is not the expectations of gamers but rather the constant wasting of time and money. Especially when you consider how many indie developers come out with great games on their own time.
Unfortunately, a lot of the waste is also political where all it takes is one person bullying their identity politics into a game and everyone else too afraid to say they are obviously going to fail and then just collecting a paycheck waiting for the inevitable trainwreck.

God of War: Ragnarok might be a great game, but despite buying it on launch; I had to stop playing before the puzzle hints drove me insane.
Put some respect on arcane, it's much better than cyberpunk or almost any animated series really
Absolutely, it's one of the best animated series out there and honestly, one of the best shows on Netflix full stop. I found Cyberpunk to be more style than substance. Not bad or anything, but just not super interesting.
