Thank you Mr. Steve. Gonna do a 3 hole on my Low Rider S . They want like $350 bucks for a service at the dealer. I have the factory softail manual and I can do the rest. Easy peasy.
great video! straight to the point! . however I just have one question. My softail is at 5000 miles. Do I need to change the primary and transmission fluid? The owners manual says at 10k miles to do the primary lubricant. And 20k to do the transmission lubricant. Would it hurt to change the primary and transmission and engine oil all at once with only 5000 miles?
Im about to change my primary and my transmission on my 21 low rider s. My book says 32oz wet for primary and 28oz for the transmission. This is my first harley i bought and my first time doing it. Do i put a full qaurt in my transmission or do i follow the book and do 28oz
@@KnobleMoto that's what I ended up doing. I was always taught it's a good habit to replace O rings and gaskets every time they're removed. 28 Oz for the transmission was a little low so I just through the rest of the bottle in and it measured out fine
It reads in the manual that it takes 28 oz of primary oil and 28 oz of motor oil. At least that is the way that I am understanding it. But that seems off.
Just to confirm, all three locations take the same oil? I’m about to change my oil for the first time on my first motorcycle (22 Lowrider S). Any chance you can list the tools used, or tools necessary to complete the project?
I use bell ray non synthetic in the primary and amsoil UTV trans oil in the trans. 28oz in trans around 32oz in primary. Full synthetic seems to slip the clutch on built m8s. It does not share the same qt oil...
@@fvgc454ss I have not had any problems with synthetic oil making my clutch slip in the M8, or any other motorcycle clutch. Is your clutch adjusted correctly?
Thanks for taking the time to film and post this. Bound to be helpful for some.
You’re welcome. I hope it does help some people.
A video on critical fasteners would be great
Like torque specs, or a rundown of what the fasteners are?
Dealer said $660 bucks for this. But they check my bulbs and brakes for free. Thanks for the video
You’re welcome. I am glad it helped.

Yay!! Congratulations
Excellent. Thank you.

Thanks for the video my man great help 👍
You’re welcome
Thanks for your video!! How many qt of oil??
All same oil size???
5 in the engine, 1 in the trans, and 1 in the primary.
I use 20/50 in the engine and 75/90 in the other two.
Thanks for the information
You’re welcome!
Is that like the gimmick? “Lefty loosely that right on outta there”
Just a subtle reminder of which way to turn the bolt.
Awesome video thank you

It’s would not hurt anything to change the oil more often. Plus it’s only 1 quart each, so why not?
Also there is way too much clutch material in the primary oil to wait that long for a change IMO.
@@KnobleMoto I agree. I was just afraid that I would be changing it too soon due to some sort of “break in” period lol.
@@dinhzil not at all.

One full quart will be fine.

So to be clear, the transmission takes both regular oil and gear oil, correct,
I use gear oil. But some use 20/50 engine oil.

@@romeoseveriano6938 I just put the whole quart in. (Shrug)

I don’t have a tool list written out. But in the video I tried to call out the size of the tool I was using for each step.
What oil are you using for the primary ?
75/140 gear oil.
Do you use the same fluid in the transmission + primary?
Yes. It shares the same quart of oil.

@@KnobleMoto I have. Fuel moto also no longer uses synthetic fluid on any of their big bore set ups for this reason.
@@fvgc454ss with the big bore? That would be engine oil. It wouldn’t have anything to do with the clutch.
How many quarts of oil?
5, but check your owners manual for your bike. There seems to be some variance in oil pan size from model to model.
just curious the owners manual says 4 qts???
Yeah it says to check it after 4. Mine takes 5. I am not sure how they figure that an extra quart could be hiding in the engine lol.
@@KnobleMoto i did 4 and didnt even hit the stick. Added a 5th and now im over full😂
@@HowNotTo365 I swear they do that on purpose 😂
@@KnobleMoto My 107 on my Sport Glide took 4 3/4.
@@HawkOnHOG fascinating. I have no idea why there is a variable.

It’s a strange little part 😂
