In this video I explore the difference between being retired here in the Philippines as compared to being retired in America
Donation for Old Dogs www.paypal.com...
I accepted my early U S Fed Pension at 52 yrs old with 30 years service. Moved to Luzon, Philippines 3 days later & will Never look back ! Life is Grand here !! I'm Blessed.
Hi im living in Bagac Bataan where are you, im ex Royal navy Uk
this is a 1 year old video. I;ve laughesd out loud 5 times. I wonder if you realize how many people you've helped. Hope the Good Lord smiles on you Paul!!!!
That was outstanding. Excellent statement at the end puts it all together.
Research? What the heck is that? Dad gum Paul, using them big words! You've got the best format! When you talk, its like your telling a story, better yet its like your talking to me. Its the best! Not many you tubers can pull it off. Good job. Take care, thanks for the videos!!
Respect, a lot of wisdom and truth in this one 👍
Wow what a great depiction of the two retirement scenarios! I felt I was there w you in the Winnebago. 😕 w the dog, the old companion, dull neighbors, the predictable routine and expense. It encapsulated the whole of the two options and boiled it down to showing up for Groundhog Day or a daily exotic adventure w the new, the different, the wild, the challenging and the kind beautiful people. I think the commenter that inspired this trip got more than his money’s worth! Along w us. What a ride. Great reality contrast like I had never heard made before. Now I k why you are getting so many subs and what makes expats so happy there - you painted a clearer picture.
Great video Paul. As always. Thanks.
Very welcome
I worked 29 years at my job retired at 55. I lost $500/month for not working till 60. I was tired, miserable, & unhealthy. Now I'm happy,
healthy, & full of energy. Best move I ever made. That money isn't worth falling apart for.
Very insightful. It's hard for me to know when to pull the plug. I work nights and it is literally damaging my health. Congrats on your smart decision. @Roy
If I wait until 60 I get £15,000. I take it four years early I get £13,000. Allowing for the way the tax system works the break even is 81-82, which I'm a lot more likely to beat if I'm not stressed out of my mind by idiots.
@@nottheguardian7955 This is EXACTLY the right analysis.
Good video. Nice one, Paul.
Wow Paul. Th and you so much for this. I am at a crossroads right now and you have no idea how much this talk helped. I’m going to jump. Leaving the west maybe by October
Another really great vlog Paul. I’ll add that as a fully disabled expat you can take Paul’s reasons and expand them exponentially for us disabled folks. In America being retired on disability is a death sentence. Here in the Philippines you get a quality of life not available in the US. Using Paul’s example retirement life in the US and add in being disabled the cost of living is through the roof and forget about American women for companionship, does not happen. Here in the Philippines, complete 180. Not retirement nirvana but infinitely better, plenty of caring Filipino ladies to help take care of you and they truly truly do care for you. Still, choose carefully and use referrals.
In my case
I love being Retired
I am an ex US Army Combat Veteran Military Police Officer Retired
I served and survived the War in Iraq and Afghanistan War during
Jan 2003
To
Jan 2004
I dont miss work at all
For me being retired is great blessings
Great video Paul. One of your best
Thanks 👍
Been here from USA in the Philippines 13 years now. Once your married here and have found the place you really want to be. Lots of things to do here that will change your life. Never retire, stay busy doing something. Enjoying your videos. Take care and stay happy.
Have to say it, and I'm sure you know it. You have skills Paul. You just entrenched my attention for 33 minutes with your walk-around talk about retirement. One of your best videos!
Resigned my job this morning! Stressful step... Hope I will be as happy as you seem.
Wish you all the best.
I wish I had the courage. I have one bill to take care of and in a year I am done
@@deepfakesforreal9487 You make a good point.
I quit October 5th. I've got something to tidy up which'll occupy me to May 2021, but I'm so relieved I don't have to deal with idiots any more. If work was so great the rich would keep it to themselves.
Everything is sold! Leaving Feb 1 for Mexico and heading south as slow as I can! Hope Covid cooperates.
Love it. I've had the Winnebago for 17 years---been in every state and every province, seen everything there is to see and more, spend part of the year at my home in Florida, 3 months in New Zealand-----I'm single, close to your age and I need a big change. Going to get rid of all my shit and I'm coming to Dumaguete when I can. Hope I can be like you adjust and find a young woman who doesn't want to drag me everywhere because this world is a mess now. I'm glad I went and saw it all when I did, but I'm ready to follow your lifestyle now.
The flat tire thing has happen to me on 4 different times on Bohol and Pangloe Island 30 pesos each time to fix the tires But whats more important is the people that see your in trouble and will never allow you to be stranded . They help get the scooters to a vulcanizing place , helped me and my wife to get there also and stayed with us until we were able to travel again in case they couldnt fix the scooter. They didnt ask for anything even though i give them a couple hundred pesos to have a few beers on me for being kind . that is part of the adventure and thats what makes the trips worthwhile Also i always tipped for the tires being fixed because its always after hours and on a Sunday
Let me think, A 60 year old toxic Feminist or a 25 year old Filipina That respects her man.
Classic!!!! A young sweet puppy dog that still loves to play beats a ole wore out sloppy hole dog ever day... You are my HERO Paul !!! If you ever get to Angeles City Philippines I owe you a meal!! I am serious about moving to Dumaguete now.. Can't wait to see Stash live in concert! Glad to see you enjoying your life buddy!
Very nice insight, Sir... I'm a Filipino and I'm contented of what I have. The world calling us 3rd world country but we are happy people and not miserable.
PURE AWESOMESS !!!! This should be required viewing for every man before he retires!
I just nominated you for an Oscar,, thats the best ever,, luv it brother,, keep it coming,,
I love you're thinking...logical and honest. You are lucky to have found baby Mae...she is a sweet heart.
You are a REALLY talented story teller. LOVED this video....and while you are telling a story, it also makes the listener stop and think about their own lives...Bravo! Encore!
This is a great story Paul ...priceless
Your story about the guy fixing your flat is inspiring. The Filipino people are the best. Saw a post on Facebook of expat selling his house there that he actually built up in the mountains near Valencia. I’ve told him I’ll buy it if it’s half as nice as all the pictures he’s sent me. About a 15 minute ride to Dumaguete. Your videos are the best Paul. Look forward to maybe meeting you and Mae one day over coffee. On me. I’m committed now. Closed on the sale of my house and sold all my stuff. Everything I own now would fit in 4-5 balikbayan boxes. I am so happy to be rid of all that stuff and clutter. Also doubled my money on the house. Hehehe
Really like your videos and your way of thinking. you are right in so many ways. By far you have the best ex-pat channel in the Philippines.. A big thumbs up here from Denmark
Wow! Thanks for playing out that scenario and you are able to capture my attention. There is something special there!
I loved your honesty I have to say you ex-pats look younger the longer you’re in the Philippines and you look happy.
I'm with you, Paul...when I hit 62 I'm definitely retiring. I don't want to wait til 65 just so I can make $300 more a year. My old man died at 67 so life is too short. I am working 2 jobs (Full & Part Time) and hopefully, I'll get a 27 year work retirement with the State of Florida and Social Security. I've been to the Philippines more than 5 times and even though The Philippines doesn't have what the U.S. has, as far as infrastructure and food, I could make that up with friends and a much easier life with the retirement I'll make in the Philippines compared to the bigger bills and no friends in the U.S.
The best video yet! Thank you!
Hey Paul You're not living in retirement. You're living an adventure so you will never get bored I think that's the key to a happy life and you're an inspiration!
(Pastor) Paul ...this is hands down, your best video.
For those contemplating things that older people think of ...just to clarify.
In the immortality of my youth ...I pictured retiring at age 48 and
seeing the world. But a sad dream that lasted 16+ years that ended
in divorce and starting over snatched me into my reality of today.
I have four more years to age 62 ...as a former truck driver, I have seen
America but now I long to see ...life itself.
Thank you for portraying a comparative possibility ...you have a gift.
Great video, you made a great choice man. I've already got the Filipina, been to the Philippines a couple of times and I'm already sold on retirement there, great place to retire!
"Philippines was a whole new vibe and shock to my system." Very well said Paul.
Nice talk...one of your best! Thanks for sharing your insights and philosophy about living a life!
Thanks Paul, that was great. I need to get out of my groundhog day soon.
Any time
Dude, I'm easily 10 years younger than you, but it's tearin down retirement. And what you shared gives me hope that I can escape my own groundhog's day. And that it's worth the risk.
You can't compare apples 2 oranges, money doesn't always buy happiness,,Paul is enjoying he's life,,,it's a honor that Paul is sharing he's life and ideas with us on he's UA-cam channel,,,keep doing what you are doing,,,peace love and happiness,,,that's my point of view!!
Bounce to your next video! Another great one! My CPAP machine stopped at 440am because the power went out here in Olongapo. I thanked the Lord he gave me another wake and watched your vid on my phone. Power went back on at 520am. Never groundhog day here that's for sure!
Buddha says..don't worry about the past , it's gone. Don't worry about the future , it has not arrive. Live the present , you only live once. 🙏🙏🙏
Buddha said you only live
once?? lol... what about reincarnation
@@hellofromdave If there's a choice I'm not coming back.
I can’t wait to retire and do what I want on my time
When you said "what I've never experienced once in the Philippines, is Groundhog day" I got chills. Man is that relatable. To freedom and discomfort, Paul. Let's be truly alive.
Great Verdi Paul. Loved the stories. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of “showing up”. My GF (Filipina) hears it every night “I don’t want to go to work 😭” in my pouting voice. I hope I can make it 7 more years until retirement without quitting.....thanks Paul 🍻
Chuck 555 you will. I worked at a boring job and had 7 years to go but I did it . In the end a I earned a nice payout do to Store closing and been traveling to a lot of places of Covid killed it for the upcoming travel season.
So he got in there .
Thanks Paul you made my day
Paul, you have an uncanny knack of articulating what I have gone through in my life as well. Keep up the good work!
Your very best video. So well done. Thank you !!
Love your sense of humor Paul. Also, want you to know that your channel is the very first channel I have ever subscribed to. It is not that I cant navigate tech, but avoid the public domain. That said your videos have resonated, you nailed it in this video. Also, really enjoyed your interview of expat Mark as you guys complement each other. Keep up the good work.
Another thoughtful and inspiring video. Super job.👍👍
Paul, living a relaxed retirement without all the other BS, will probably add years to your life.
Yup!!!
Can I be honest... I’m jealous of you guys, I’m 64, been separated for over a year and envy you guys with a young woman. I dream of living the same. As soon as it opens up again I will join you guys. For this winter I guess it will be Acapulco, because it’s open. I have my fingers crossed for the phillipines until the end of august before I press the enter button on the flight to Acapulco. Cheers all, from Quebec, Canada.
Paul you can live like a king in Texas for 6000 thousand dollars
Paul this is a totally amazing talk. Thank you.
I love your analogy of retirement in the USA.I was retired here 3 years and brother you hit the nail on the head I spent 6 moths in the Philippines 3 months in Davao 2 months in Cebu and 1 month exploring its closest to a stress free life the people there (especially the girls) are so full of life happy smiling giggling looking forward . When this virus mess is over I will be a new expat .
Great stories and comparisons, Paul. May the Force always be with you and your lovely Mae.
Wow!! That's the best utube video I have ever seen. I think maybe you are a reincarnated George Carlin.. add a few tweaks and lots of cuss words and you'll be on your way to being a top comedian.. I was kind of shying away from your videos but you got me back one hundred and 1%.. I have been a subscriber since the beginning and was worried about your well-being.. I ain't worried no More.. you took the words right out of my mind about retirement..I had a ticket for the Philippines the first Saturday in April and you see what happened..I am from south Louisiana so I'm not worried about the heat and I am a good cook so I can cook anything I like to eat.. please make some more good videos like this..I'm going to watch this video several times and send it to people that I know..I will see you all after this virus is over..thanks for making my day a great day 😀👌👍
Loved this one Paul, you’re so honest and down to earth. I admire you for making the effort to change your life. I’m retired, and in Groundhog Day now. I hope I can find the way and the courage, to do what you have done.
Paul, I had so many laughs with this vlog. I was an RVer for many years and lived full-time in my Motorhome with a wife, 2 children and 2 dogs for 3 years. The wife Homeschooled the children and I worked for the National Park Service. Now that wife is gone and the kids and dogs and I am in Cebu City with my Filipino family. Life is GOOD! Why didn't I do this 15 years ago???
This is the story I needed to hear that I believe will make me millions. Your past sounds like no future for me 🤣 I’m very grateful. Thank you so much 😊
"Not showing up" priceless. Got less than 2 years for my pension and starting to get rid of stuff that I don't need. Thinking about doing the RV thing once then head overseas. Philippines is my top choice since my late wife of 37 years was born there and raised in Hawaii. Great woman. Kinda know the culture and a few words. Love your videos. Great laugh. Thank you. Aloha
Okole Puka, lol, Love your alias. I call Hawaii home, lived there 19 years, but currently in New Zealand for work. Going back to Oahu next year. 🤙
U will love it here In Philippines.. i live and vlog here!! Its great
Great presentation Paul. Your honesty is refreshing to say the least. Would love to sit and talk for a long time. Stories are so interesting.
I love your comment about not being able to think outside of the box. Brilliant!!
This was insightful Paul.
One of your best 👍🏼
Paul, I think this is the best video you ever done!
Paul, excellent video. You really put things in perspective. I already did the RV thing. Trying to figure out what is next.
Bro you are spot on. love the videos.
Hi Paul, what a great presentation of comparison of 2 different life stractures. Thaks for enlightenment.
Great insight Paul. Really enjoyed this, thank you!!!
Your story telling in this was awesome, i so relate, very inspirational Paul and hi to Baby Mae.
Paul, you're a real gem! Your witty videos always bring a smile to my face, and you are such a good-hearted guy. I love your stories, and this one is special. I hope to follow in your footsteps to PH sometime soon, and your videos are giving me an excellent insight into what I can expect ... good, and maybe sometimes not quite so good!!! Thank you and take care
You summed it up perfectly with "ground hog day". Enjoy every minute and don't stop LIVING!
Very amusing & balanced comparison. Blessed is the man who doesn’t take himself too seriously.
Yesss I know that feeling. I wake up everyday. I have to force myself to get up, muscle up enough energy to work for the day. My routine is 1 cup of caffeine and exceedrin tabs which have caffeine n aspirin to add extra boost
I just saw Ground Hog Day last weekend for about the 10th time so hearing this from you is hilarious and also brings a jolt of reality. I’ve done my RV stint in my 30s so I’m on to other fun adventures in my near retirement years and looking forward to it. I think it helps to have a variety of interests to keep one busy and challenged as well as have fun. I guess I’m always a kid at heart so I welcome what each new day will bring! Thank you for sharing!
My dad tagged onto an RV scene once in Arizona. He was semi-retired and enjoyed going into the desert with his truck and camper.
I remember he told me the story once when the RV park denizens we’re all having a community potluck Thanksgiving dinner.
The people who had done it before would show up with ice-cream buckets to load up with. They would gobble their food, fill up their buckets and leave. General jostling and pushing. Dad said he was so creeped out he could hardly eat. There was hardly anything left for him anyway.
Long time follower here just letting you know this was a fantastic video thanks again Paul
Making the best of time while I wait to travel to a simpler live. Really enjoy hearing about your real life in the Philippines. Anytime you think about leaving the Philippines you should watch this video to come back to Reality. Less is more. Enjoy.
Man, you were singing my song. I did the 3 years touring the USA seeing the places I wanted to see. Except the east coast. Had no desire for that. Except I did it on my Honda Goldwing pulling a trailer. No motorhome for me, but a lot of camping. Then life got horrible. stuck close to home, listening to the yap yap yap. So I moved out. Eventually bought a one way ticket here to PI. My difference is I had previously lived over here for years covering parts of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. So I knew what I was coming back to, I thought. The PI advanced more over the past 20 years than they did in the prior 30. There was very little difference between the 60's and the 90's. I have always loved it here except now and then when I hated it (for a day or three). Or like now, this being locked down where I am at with a woman I have come to not be able to stand. But that will end Tuesday as I am moving. Putting my stuff in Storage and making a trip back to Texas to take care of getting rid of more stuff, seeing all my doctors, taking all their tests, hopefully getting the OK to come back and then when I return either sell or depending on price ship my stuff down your way. I'm ready for a change from Luzon. Your area seems more my speed. And Just maybe I can find someone who can put up with me. I am lucky that I can afford to live at whatever level I want to over here. But I spend about what you do or less. Hope to see you soon. Maybe by Nov. unless they change the rules again for getting back in the country, I should have no problems, as still married, even though separated, and also have SRRV retirement visa. Of course I know it is day to day on what the rules will be.
am torn between wild-eyed laughter and deep depression at your “groundhog day” recollections and your many “kill-me-now” RV descriptions . thanks for telling like it really is!
Paul that's what I love about you …. you keep it real... Thanks buddy!!
Hi Paul , thanks for your Vedeo Filipina from france
*Good perspective Paul, thanks for sharing* 👍
Love you videos, so natural and informative, live the dream for those of us that can’t, not yet anyway
Yep. I just subscribed. My lady is from the Philppines. I started researching about the P.I. in 2011. I watched Jack & Myra, Reekay, Souyummy Kuya Travis Kraft, Bud Brown, the late Mike Cason and others before I even went there. I have seen a few of your videos. Your happy go easy personality and intervesting videos are great. I hope my son would marry would marry a Filipina as well. That was my dads dream after retiring to get a Winnebago and travel the USA when he retired. Unfortunately that never happened. We did rent a Wiineanago with the big W on it and traveled through CA, OR and Washington. We did spend many days at different KOA and state camping grounds . Wow. Nothing like being chased and propsitioned by a lady boy and prosistutes!! Thats awesome that you paid 200PHP for a PHP to help a family get just a little firtjer ahead Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming!
So.. interviews are kinda cool sometimes. Live streaming is ok not my favorite. But yeah, when you just sit there on the couch and talk to the camera it is by far the best.
I agree :)
Thank you.. for your service!!
I second that.
Really funny video. Had some good laughs. Good imagination going on....And also really good points. I get it all. GREAT video...!
Thanks Paul! I’ve only been watching you for a month or so. I must say that this is my favorite. You’re a good storyteller. I’ve only been to Philippines once. 29 of the best days of my life in January and February 2020. Met a smart wonderful woman in Cordova on Mactan island. Like many of your viewers I’ve been trying to get back there with no luck due to the virus 🦠. Take care and I hope to meet you and Mae sometime in 2021.
Man I watch a lot of expat UA-cam videos.....this one, hands down, is the best so far!!! Ground Hog day is what made me retire early. Unlike a lot of expats who say they didn't move to the Philippines (or whatever country) to date younger women....well, I am coming to the Philippines to date younger women and I'm proud to admit it !!!
Oh, you can see the reflection of two lights in your eye glasses.....they kind of look like your eyeballs....LOL!!
Hello young man
Been watching you a lot,
Have real intentions to reside in my old age in the Philippines.
Need advise if you can.
I’m from Sydney.
Great video! I did a two year practice retirement in Philippines a few years ago. Visited there several times before that. The thing I personally am of the opinion is that I needed fresh hobbies, and for me little routines. Really this could apply to any location. You have your UA-cam channel hobby. So many options. I agree with your views... cracking me up. I just retired and looking forward to returning to the Philippines. Whenever I visited Thailand or other countries, it was such a joy returning to the Philippines... even the stewardesses on the return flight could hold a conversation in English. Enjoy life, no rush, peace 😁
One of the best videos I've ever watched. Your insight into RVing I kind of suspected but never really crystalized as well. I had been considering RVing off and on...it's off the list now, thanks. Groundhog Day is right.
I'm 63, retired at 45. My older brother wants to work forever. Imo it comes down to where a person get's their feeling of value. I've definitely known men who hated their jobs, found no value there. When they retired they hated retirement, found no value there. See the pattern?
Something I heard when I was a kid. If you're happy when you're young you'll probably be happy when you're old. I found that true. Has very little to do with retired or not, relationship or not. If you have good health and enough money for the basics then happiness is up to you.
I think Paul just outlined a script that a Hollywood agent would kill for.
One of your best Videos, Paul. I don't know about everyone else, but this was like going to a little town called Introspection City. Certainly enjoyable and more than real.
Excellent story telling. There’s really only one reason us old guys retire to Asia though. If you don’t know what the reason is, take a look at the thumbnail on Paul’s video: “Relationships in the Philippines, Look Who Stopped by the Apartment Today!!!”
Great video Paul, thanks. You are helping me convince myself to do the same thing. If I show up near you, I will look you up . Be blessed.
Wow!!!!! Paul I loved the video buddy great great great can't wait to finally put ground hog day behind me? You really do have a great life and thank you for taking the time to share it with us
I currently live full time, retired, in an R V with my dog, let me tell you, it sucks, big time. I can’t wait to get back to the Philippines 😊
nice that you retired in philippines my husband and i are planing to go back there and stay may 2 years from now
Great..
Moral of the story?
The greatest feeling in the world is never "HAVING" to be somewhere... And being able to afford it in retirement.
Excellent video
Yup!!
you would have been a great chess player...your forward thinking is spot on.
I'm going to save this video and I will watch it every time I have some doubts of leaving a comfortable (but lonely) life in Australia and moving to the Philippines. Thank you Paul ; I wish I'll meet you soon
Very Good & True,,,,Enjoy Your Retirement
