Hey my friend? I was riding one day and my 1979 ford f100 6 cylinder cut off on me. When it did i could smell a lite burnt smell. Story short got it home. No fuel is getting to the pump. I replaced the old some were cracked fuel lines. Where should i start. Can the sending unit cause this issues . I put new pump on it as well but still no fuel coming up. Could it be my carburetor? Where to start?
As silly as it sounds, I would check the fuel level. I’ve made that mistake many times. So make sure it has gas. Then I’d check the pickup. Sounds like if it has gas and you’ve replaced the lines and pump, the pickup is probably clogged or broken off in the tank.

Would a faulty sending unit cause the engine to no get enough fuel? My 73 fires up eventually but kind of sputters and dies after a few seconds.

Hi! Does that unit could work in a Ford LTD 81 tank? I think your tank is placed horizontally, right?
I am not too sure about the setup on an LTD but I would image it wouldn’t be very different.

Was your fuel gauge not working at all? Mine will show an empty tank when it is really only half way empty.
This one was not working at all. The one on my daily driver does the same thing you described but I have not fixed it yet.
Your float is not adjusted correctly most likely. I could put 5gal. In a 16gal. Tank and it would show Full. Very frustrating
Lmao mine works but stays at Full for 60 miles then goes all the way down to 1/4 and gradually goes down the rest of the way till empty
