I just changed weatherstripping and ground wire was mounted under chrome door trim. It was completely rusted and I cleaned it up. Hopefully I’ll see a change. I did your trick but nothing changed.

i put a new pump and sending unit in my 86 the switch will work and itll go to e on the front tank cause its been removed but on the rear itll go to full and i know its about at half dont know what to look for

Is yours an intank electric pump ? If so, this video is not applicable

@@2025944 OK. That switch is there but the function is different. The switch on your truck works in conjunction with a 6 pin frame mounted fuel selector valve. The fuel selector valve is what connects the sending unit to the gauge. The in-cab switch is still responsible to control the selector gauge and tell it to move sending unit data between the front and rear tanks.

All I can say is look for wiring diagrams for a 1986 pickup at the link below and troubleshoot.. from what you are saying the tank is only half full but it shows to be full. Did you get the proper sending unit for the proper capacity ? a 16 gal sending unit would read lower than its supposed to on a 19 gallon tank and vice versa. You probably have a smaller tank and used a 19 gallon sending unit. www.garysgaragemahal.com/1986-evtm.html
