CRAZY Difficult Rocking Chair Build for My New BABY!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 лют 2021
- This build was by far my MOST IMPORTANT Build to date. With the baby due any day now, my wife requested a rocking chair. Instead of dropping 3k on one, i decided to try building it for myself.

1:21 when the Woodpeckers square falls on the ground. Physical pain.
I was coming to comment this exact thing. I'm still only 1:30 into this video haha
Now its Woodpeckers almost square.
JORDAN THIS ROCKS! Congrats on the first DAD JOKE!!
That chair does rock! Perfectly placed by the mamaroo. Rocking chair for momma and the rocking chair for little one. Soon!
So... Pantarouter $2000, upholstery tools $250, Turkey Slicer $30, probably $500 in materials = $2780 for a Rocking chair. Not to mention the tools you already owned. I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'm still working on my $8000 Coffee table.
John, let me share a little wisdom, for the baby, its all about mama for the first 5 or 6 months. Dont feel left out. Congratulations. BTW, I am an upholsterer, you did great for first time.
I built SAME CHAIR for my wife when we had our first child - 3 kiddos later, the rocker still stands proud in our home.... You are right. The chair will be an heirloom piece, where as the crib, which at its EOL looked like we had raised beavers, and small dressers we have long since out grown, all met their fate at the curbside pickup. NICE WORK! - I wish I had documented the build in such an epic way... but thanks for taking me down memory lane on the build process.
Great gift. Hope you share her reaction with us.
Nice chair John, the wife and the baby will love it. You will love it too, rocking your baby to sleep and you to sleep as well. Congrats on the new family member. You and your lovely wife will make great parents.
That's an awesome job! I hope she loved it!
Congrats on the baby john!!!
It's beautiful. You created a family heirloom that your daughter can use and pass down to her children and grandchildren. Nicely done. Kudos to Sam and Jordan too!
"You know what this is Jordan? This ROCKS!" - John 2021
The 'PantoRouter' was created by 'Matthias Wandel' a Canadian wood worker UA-camr, I've been watching this made man for a decade. Glad to see you using one of his inventions.
You did a fantastic job on the 'Baby Rocker'
About 25 years ago I decided I wanted to build a Maloof style rocking chair so I drove from Richmond VA to Atlanta GA to his seminar at Highland Hardware. My son went with me and he was about 14. Wonderful experience and even bought Sam lunch. That's as far as I have gotten. Yours looks great. Congrats on actually doing it.
I love this channel. I love that he shows he makes mistakes. Makes me not feel like im the only one who doesn't really know what hes doing.
I wonder when the squirrely catch phrase is going to play out haha! Great build guys! Wish I could do that!
A couple of points John.
1. The finished item is stunning, as is usually the case
2. The dynamic between yourself and the guys who work with (for) you always impresses me. It's part of what makes your videos watchable and so enjoyable.
Thank you for sharing as always.
That turned out beautiful. Definitely can see that being a family heirloom. Great work.
That is possibly one of your best builds! Yes, I know it doesn't have any bullets but, from the very beginning, you guy's were so out of your depth you were actually considering Domingo's!!!!! You started something that you didn't think you had the skills to complete it, but you did a really, REALLY amazing job and it will probably stay in your family for generations. Well done and as UA-cam only lets you put 1 thumb up I'm going to put the rest down here for 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful build. I predict you'll be rocking your grand children in the chair. Well done !!
You left out the most important part. Sara sitting in the chair. How will we know if she liked it?
Momma's gonna love that RC, if momma's happy the baby is happy.
The best piece of furniture we bought when we had our first kid was a glider/rocker chair. For the first 7mo of my oldest kid's life my poor wife basically slept in that chair with our son #parenthood.
Enjoy the kiddo John, they ruin your lives in the most perfect of ways...plus it's a small price to pay to have spare organs and/or a blood bag around. My oldest's nickname is "Spare Kidney" because he's my blood type, and my youngest is "Blood Bag" because he's a universal donor. Just wait till you get that proud dad moment when they perfectly mimic you. Being military kids mine have some pretty funny mannerisms they've picked up from me.
Looks good and definitely something to be passed down for generations. A few months back I made a rocking chair for my newborn niece. It's a mini rocking chair, made for a 1-1/2 to 2 year old, I made it out of figured walnut and not to toot my own horn, but it turned out beautifully. She won't be able to use it for a while and will quickly out grow it but it is something that will last forever and hopefully be passed down for generations. Definitely my favorite project and most meaningful.
Nice! That’s awesome! Love your channel and good luck with the sleepless nights lol
Enjoy the moments man! Being a dad is the greatest thing!
I don't always watch your channel (wait, I do), but I WATCH THE ADS. Awesome content is worth a few minutes of my time.
Beautiful rocking chair! Funny video...love the squirrelly squad antics and hijinks!
Great job on the chair and congratulations on your first baby! Kids make the world go around. I'm really happy for you.
Nice job on a classic form. We actually have an antique rocker in this style and yours looks exactly the same. Well done!
Great save on the router! Great job on the chair..you’ll love being a dad.
Talk about rocking! Once again you guys nailed it!
So glad you brought the bald eagles and beer lines back!!!!
Congratulations I can’t wait til I’m a father I love your videos
very nice ! The beginning of a family heirloom
Great build...you will be spending a lot of time in that chair
Amazing! Enjoy your new addition!
Congrats here's to many great memories ahead. God bless each of u. This weeks project turned out very unique and beautiful. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God Bless.
Nice work John and crew👍🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Nice build, Pops!
And Jordan didn’t dance in this video! A BIG plus!
HA Awesome nose pick/flick at 2:27. Congrats on the baby and the rocker looks amazing.
@4:07 that pucker factor when your trying something for the first time...... Thats me on every project, ive been woodworking for 6 months
That Grundy Bear is so cute
Killer job on this one! Well done!
John Congrats on your baby. Good luck and get sleep when you can.
Love watching you create and build cool stuff. Dont change !!!! I LOVE your personality and watching the crew. Having fun at work is priority
This is an awesome project. Congrats, John! My daughter was born in October and fatherhood definitely changes you.
Gratz on the baby Sir!
Congratulations Brother hope all is well!
Awsome chair man!!!!
Damn that turned out awesome! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Awesome job, John. You do know you should have made his and hers, you'll be sneaking in a rock every chance you can get...............
Great video and you will be a great Dad.
You should do 3 levels of rocking chairs DIY to Pro. Would thoroughly enjoy that!!
Hope the baby is there already.
One thing you could add is a rest for the feet....
Most women are a bit smaller and when rocking a baby or feeding a baby in a chair it can be very relaxing to have 1 or both feet on an extension.
Also a front or back stop can be ideal.
If someone is rocking too hard they sometimes flip on their back of front (out if the chair).
Good luck guys.
Great video's
Love it! I hope the baby gets to watch this one day! What a special project!
Awesome save, Dude when the router was about to fall!
Me ‘I should stop watching UA-cam’
John Malecki notification ‘hell nah’
Ps loving the content, keep up the UA-cam grind
Awesome job John, I hope you are on the new show “Assembly Required “. Congrats on the new little one on the way.
Great job, Papa John.
Thumbs up for not editing out the nose pick. We all do it.
Love the chair. Very inspirational. I am still recovering from distal biceps tendon repair and when I on my feet in the shop again going to give my rocking chair plans a try.
Beautiful job 😀 family masterpiece !
This is great man. If I could offer one suggestion from someone with 3 kids who spent lots of time in a rocking chair, add some upholstered arm pads. You’ll be happy you did.
Outstanding work and since it's for family I'm sure it means more to all of you!!!
That is one awesome chair. Made me a little misty eyed for my girly when she was a wee little one. Prepare to find Sarah asleep in there with baby.
Much more complex build than I thought this one would be. I know you guys know things are about to change a lot. You right, and you're still not prepared. Enjoy it!
Nice chair! Love your videos, nose picking and all!! 🤣😂
Congratulations!!! Big boy!!🎉 welcome to the club, yaaa!!!
The chair looks great. Not a fan of the stain colour though. It makes the chair look like it's from the '80s. I probably would have used something with less grain, or darker than oak, too. Love all the mortise and tenon joinery!
Congratulations on the new baby, being a dad is awesome!
You consistently get the best music for these videos. Always some great driving song with really good guitar tones. It makes the experience that much better.
John. Congrats on becoming a father. Your wife will love the chair. I’m jealous, you built this in 15 min. Took me months. Those angled tenons and alignment of the dowel holes for the rockers were head scratchers. Enjoy it.
Awesome chair and a lot went into making this and it was fun seeing you guys having a great time making this👌👌😊thank you guys!
Couple drops,
Couple cat like reflex moments,
Couple Jordan got it wrong again moments!
Another classic for the books!
WAY COOL!!! Congrats on the Mini We build and the chair to... I built 3 with my wife and it is the best ride in the park!! I don't think I will try a rocking chair build though. :)
Congratulations on having your first kid!!
Congrats on the little one John! My first just turned 1 month old today. Make sure that nitro cold brew coffee station is topped off!!
Damn John, that is on fine chair. Great video and build, the squirrelyness just adds to knock it over the fence. Have a great day.
Really enjoy your channel. It's cool to see how much you have grown with the channel and seeing you be you.
Look very much like my wife's grandfathers chair we have in the living room. Nice job guy's!!!
John: "Sam, I really don't want to start the kitchen remodel. Let's build a rocking chair instead!"
That looks amazing, surely built to last 100s of years! Great job!
We did the same thing on our first. Then we realized that mom is going to basically sleep in that thing a few times a week. So we bought a rocker recliner.
They'll be a matching rocking ottoman video soon after baby arrives and/or bigger rocker that fits John. He doesn't realize it yet, but he'll spend many of night in it as well! O the joys of the 1st child! I had five, he's in for many sleepless night ahead....
Dam boy , that's one chair any squirrels going to love !.
Glad there wasn't a Mel Gibson in 'The Patriot' moment during the initial sit test! Beautiful heirloom piece.
Loved the jocko reference!
Sweet seat! Uh, I meant the rocker...keep up the great work!
Beautiful!!!!
Congrats! 👏👏👏👏
Man I love this channel
Great job fellas!
Amazing job looks great. I've been wanting to male one of these chairs myself. Maybe out of South Texas Mesquite.
Congratulations 💐👏👏👏
Congrats! This is a great looking rocking chair.
Great video and great job on the chair. Your videos are always entertaining and informative 👏
Save of the year by Sam the man!
That's really nice. 👍
Fantastic work, John!!! 😃
That chair rox! 🤘😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Congrats John!
I prefer to buy my rocking chair legs from Home Depot, the wood comes pre-bent.
Maybe that is their secret. They only sell wood for rocking chairs which explains their lumber yard. The Menards and Lowes near me are no better.
Ha! I KNEW John couldn't read...man, I wish I could. I had my kid type this for me. Craftsman style rocker is seriously in my top 5 rockers if I learned more styles of rockers. Epic build!
Looks good John, well done.
Beautiful job!
Great build. I have to repair the rocking chair that I have and after seeing you video I might build my own one now
You lads rock. Keep up the great work
