Yes, it speaks by itself...
Everybody is entitled to have an opinion. Dont think you have understand the concept of this album at all. This is timeless brilliantly arranged music that can't be compared to any other different music bands. ABBA dont care about what is currently going on in pop music. They built their own legacy.
I know right? Artists like Madonna are constantly being critisized for chasing current pop trents but when Bands like ABBA DON'T do that they are being critisized for that. It is like older Artists/Bands can't do anything right.
ABBA , unspoilt and steering clear of conveyor belt throwaway pop music . Eg; Taylor Swift/Sia lol!
Your review tells me that you do not understand Abba's music one iota. These songs are collectively a journey of closure. It's Abba saying goodbye through the wisdom of their life experience and years. If you understood Abba from their beginnings you would understand this. Your comments about Agnetha's voice is simply barking. Her voice has matured but it is not that different. Same with Frida. But there harmonies are just as beautiful as they were in the 1970/80's. Yep listened to your album. You can't sing!
The Mr Kevin Bessey has a playlist called "Reviews of Things I Know Nothing About" on this very UA-cam. Perhaps this review will end up on that playlist.
Who's HER vocals.. You can't even name them
I noticed that. There are 2 women singing but he kept referring to is as "her vocals". lol
He needs to give up music if he doesn’t know these talented musical geniuses!
Before people review ABBA it's wise to have a bit of understanding about them. They didn't write the songs for Mamma Mia. Mamma Mia was written around the songs.
I was about to post a scathing comment on your 'appraisal' and your staggering apparent lack of musicality for a supposed songwriter/singer/producer, however, I think the down votes you'll get will speak louder than words.
My advice, spend more time listening to the album.
If you don´t even know that there are TWO female singers in ABBA - no-one could possibly take you seriously!
Trying to be funny?
You have never heard about ABBA?
Patetic !
Why do a review on a band you know nothing about
I can understand why Kevin Bessey do not at all understand the magic of ABBA. All about ABBA is natural. They could easily have artificially “fixed” the ladies’ “older” voices and other things, but they refrained from doing so. Their music it is genuine right through.
As far as I know, no other band is doing the same today; the temptation is too big to fix almost everything to perfection.
ABBAs music is therefore REAL MUSIC. Today it is unusual, which makes them so BIG! What I also hear many young people of today say is: “Wow, this is nothing like the “music” made today. ABBA is really making MUSIC”. Their music and the “modern” music cannot even be compared,
In addition, no one with their emotional life intact can dislike ABBAs lyrics and music. Their music is all about being a real human being with flaws, dramatic and traumatic moments, which real human beings’ lives contains at times. Their music touches Real human beings’ hearts, and gets us in touched with our real, deep feelings and with ourselves. And if it is something we troubled humans need right now, that is it. it is crucial for our survival.
Thank you, ABBA, you came back when we needed your music the most. You make me so proud of being Swedish!
Sad to react to music you don’t like , with that laziness ,’yawning from the beginning , doing things just for money is kind of a prostitution . Thank God 60 countries don’t agree with your “taste” where it reached #1 on iTunes and already gone platinum record physically with in hours of its release today . This is easy , react to Bruno Mars and that’s it , stop suffering
ABBA never made 'theme' albums. You'll find a lot of variety on every album. The Voyage album is a bonus. They planned to make two new songs for the abbatar show and then had inspiration enough to add a few to make it an album. We fans are grateful. You should have a bright future if you are not impressed by a group that sold 400 million albums.
Baffled by this review. You cannot expect 71-75 year old women to sing like they did when they 26-31. You won’t get the same “youthful” tone. What you get, instead, is depth on all levels: lyrically, musically, even emotionally. Consider their now second-to-last album, “The Visitors.” By then (1981) they had outgrown the ABBA of “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo.” They we’re now fully aware of the world surrounding them, and the music and lyrics reflected that. “Voyage” seems like the perfect marriage between what was left of fun from “Super Trouper” and the adult themes that surrounded both that album and “The Visitors.” This record is a beautiful bow on the career of people that have given us some of the best pop songs of all time. I think you oughta need a deep dive before coming to such generic conclusions…
I was about to listen to the reaction then I saw your comment, and decided against it! Standard, basic reaction from a bedroom millennial “producer”
You are actually wasting your time explaining it to him.. He won't get it.. He looks tired and comes across as can't really be bothered..
Do you realize you come across so arrogant, yawning, can’t be bothered
I am certainly baffled too...
I think that it is extra emotional for us Swedes that ABBA has done a comeback. So happy that young Swedes discover our treasure ABBA. We are a country who love to sing, and we have a long tradition in Sweden with song- and music treasures, which has been passed down from generation to generation. Which other country has for example "Sing-along at Skansen” in Stockholm? So proud of being Swedish
@CD.THUNDER82 Thank you. Yes, they are really magical. I find almost all of ABBA`s songs/lyrics are personal. Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Annifrid are all humble, nice, honest and decent human beings; down to earth people. They are just like anybody else, with all of their flaws, traumas, embarrassments, difficulties etc. They know that, and they do not put themselves over anybody else.
In addition, they are even generous with sharing those painful experiences with us, so that we have the opportunity to feel our own pain - and heal it. They also share their joy and happiness with us; all their precious feelings.
That is why their music touches all of us, young as old and everyone in between. That makes their music so GREAT, and SPECIAL.
As an American, I can tell you I am every bit as emotional as you are about the album and the return of ABBA. What a gift this is to the fans.
@@mattD6228 Thank you, Matt. So glad and grateful for your words! Much love from Sweden
Poor review overall. No depth, lack of knowledge in the context overall. Lack of knowledge in Abba overall. Waste of time. Not professional, not fun.
Can I agree with you a thousand times?!?!
Kevin, your review is a total fail. If you want to be respected in the music industry, you should delete this video...
Zoltan, if somebody in the music industry were to discount me because I wasn’t impressed by ABBA’s least impressive album, I wouldn’t want to work with them.
Respect comes first - anything else second...
@@KevinBessey You should have done some historical research on them. They have been well established iconic musicians since the late 60s and their catalogue go's way beyond Mamma Mia. Dereck reacts is around the same age as you and he has far greater knowledge and depth in his reviews about many artists including ABBA. It seems your critiquing is very one dimensional and self serving

'ABBA's least impressive album'?
what need ABBA do, after 40 years!
in my personal opinion, Voyage is at Podium of all ABBA albums, with "Arrival" (1976) & "The Album" (1977)
anyway, Voyage is a worldwide success, #1 in 18 countries (included UK Germany & Australia), #2 in US
still in Christmas time Voyage is in Top 3 or Top 5 in a lot of countries all over the world
and the Most important
ABBA are really back at high level
is the Most Important act in the New Century XXI, and the Biggest Comes Back in all music history
Why is everyone so damn surprised they put a Christmas song on the album??? Why is it so shocking??? And imagine if you would a group that has never put out a Christmas song...and then a Christmas song on their first album in 40 years, I don't know maybe awesome!
I wouldn’t expect a producer to be so anti-ballads. I certainly would want my album to be produced by someone who doesn’t like ballads. And I wouldn’t want my record to be produced by someone who yawns all his way through listening to music. Or someone who’s busy doing other things. And I‘m not even sure if he knows that ABBA actually consist of two men and two women. He says this was „her“ best vocals talking about Just A Notion when it’s actually two women singing in unison.
Singer, songwriter, producer 🤣
Yep ! quite amusing indeed
It seems like you didn't notice there's actually two ladies singing. That's interesting.
lol I couldn't believe how he was describing the group. Like he hasn't a clue.
Unfortunately u do not understand good music
He's into Sia and Taylor Swift. lol!
@@sushigirl1069 says it all
This review is pure blasphemy
Hi Kevin. Can you tell me how tall you are? I'd like to measure just how far things go over your head.
The problem with these ¨critics¨ who think since they have a computer that get in here and post videos without knowing anything about the groups is that they need to really LISTEN to the lyrics. These ¨critics¨ are so used to today´s music with no messages. ABBA is very well-known for their ballads. Please do your research before trying to make an informed opinion.
You don't seem to have much of a clue?
I am shocked by this review. Why did he bother to do it? He obviously did no homework whatsoever, no research! Who cares about what he says?! How can he possibly understand any part of ABBA without any knowledge of their real voyage, their history, their Swedish folk roots and ongoing folk presence, their UNICEF charitable contributions (which are consistent with Bumble Bee and other children songs)?!
Little things & Chiquitita
are the songs with royalties to UNICEF
(not Bumblebee)
Actually, you are not sleepy at all. You are just making a statement what you think about ABBA.
If you really were sleepy, you had done the best to hide it.
I have looked thru you.
Guys, dont pay attention to this dude, as soon as he started talking I knew he knows nothing about it and stopped the video... he is no one.
I don’t know you but I think you don’t know anything about ABBA. You should stay with what you know. If ABBA is not your thing why are you reviewing it? Your world is very small. Broaden your horizons. Your questions seem very strange. You are too young anyway to understands. You seem very suspicious 😒
"Dereck reacts" is around the same age as this guy and he has a better grasp on listening to all kinds of music from different genres , including ABBA's massive contribution to the music industry. Try him out, Dereck gives a solid and fair verdict on all ABBA's music
😄 They’re more better than you whatever you say they don’t have to prove anything to you or to anybody. This album is a reflection of their lives during the last 40 years that they haven’t recorded together.
Abba fans you're wasting your time explaining Abba to him he wont get it.. He looks tired and comes across as I can't really be bothered.. The new album wasn't intended for someone like him.. Even B and B said that the album will appeal to their fan base..
I love this comment! You get me!
He sees himself as an influencer - he's just a bit of a knob so he should really just stick to his non-creative endeavours.
He's at least heard of ABBA so figured he'd review a popular band hoping to increase his subscriber numbers. Just made a fool of himself dissing one of the most popular and respected by its peers - Cobain, Lennon, Costello, Madonna, Bono etc - bands of the last century without even making an effort to know anything about them going in - he's heard of Dancing Queen. Pathetic really.
Ouch! You don't seem to be satisfied with much in life; except for the occasional 'cool' yawn.. Too much this, too much that. So many contradictions in your boring statements. And who is 'she' or 'her'!Let me fill you in... The she and her are two of the all-time best singers on this planet. Have some respect. Do some research before you review one of the greatest bands on earth. Try to find different perspectives... try to think outside the box. Stop the yawning. It's rude. You honestly come across as snotty and condescending, which... no disrespect, shows a deep lack of satisfaction in your own life. Besides that, all the best to you.
If you're a record producer, I'm Freddie Mercury :-) The vocals are excellent, especially on ICBTWN and BB. You'd have to be deaf not to hear that.
If you start out negatively, you end up making yourself a fool. You know nothing. I suggest delete this video as one day it may go against you, perhaps at an audition.
I followed your advice and tune off, not before clicking dislike and exit... and yawning! Wow! What disrespect!!! Why haven't this video been taken down is beyond me.
This review was absolutely painful....
You are the reason why music today sucks. You call yourself a producer lol.
I always say if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say it/write it or in this case, post the video, just move on.
Think I will stick to Dereck reacts. He has a better understanding of music in general across the different genres. As we say here in ole Blighty. That is one pi&& poor and uninformed review . Heheheh!
get some sleep before you do a review, your constant yawning ruined the whole review.
You can't please all the people all the time. All you can do is believe in yourself and do what you think is right for you. Such an aknowledgement can only come with maturity. ABBA have done that. They are not doing it for the money or commecrial popularity, but for the joy of making music.
What a shallow and poor approach. It's actually sad how narrow minded this person is.
Surprised he even knows who ABBA are...very laconic and apathetic reveiws from a non ABBA fan..why does he refer to " her' voice ? Does he think there's only one singer ?
Aesthetics are subjective. Nobody is forcing you to like something you don't. But failing to grasp the fundamentals of a subject for which you profess knowledge isn't. And exhibiting wilful cussed ignorance on cultural differences and wallowing in shallow xenophobia and ageism is not a good look. Did you also diss Johnny Cash on his Hurt track? Old voices are beautiful for their cracks and vulnerability, and it shows a lack of character not to appreciate that.
If you cannot appreciate the profoundly deconstructed genius of Ode to Freedom, or the intricate phenomenology of Keep an Eye on Dan (where the verses express painful internal truths and the chorus represents the hysterical banal enunciation to the estranged partner on custody handover) then I fear it is your loss.
One tip I will give you. As with all Scandi Noir, nothing with ABBA is quite as if seems. No sugar comes without a bitter shadow, and failing to recognise that is a kind of musical hermeneutics intelligence test. I am sorry you didn't pass it this time, as doing so avails you of semiotic riches
This echoed my sentiments with an erudite precision, I also wrote a similar observation but decided it might fall on deaf ears (pun intended)
Excellent
Fantastic review!
Wonderful ... telling this noncanpoop where to get off
ABBA a folk act??? Listen to their live album at Wembley stadium and be prepared to revise your opinion.
And that’s the reason because you are a react youtuber and they are legends.
Can this music producer produce a decent song? Can he even produce like King Kong song the worst abba song there is? I bet he can't.😂 And he thought abba only have a sole vocalist, what a shame🤦♂️p.s. This channel don't deserve a subscription
16 minutes of my life I will never get back. LOL. Could you be a little more respectful and stop yawning?
if this is your way as a professional producer and decent person to react, then you definitlly have to look for another job. Real disgusting
I heard today that their album is number one outselling every one in the rest of the chart in the UK (presales of 100K quadrupled Universal's last top outselling band). In their day, they took a long time to make their mark on the US charts, but they are number one there as well. Sure everyonee is entitled to their opinion but you are showing some ignorance in your research and since you get monetised by members, it's probably better not to have said anything if you show ignorance and deliver it badly. Don't forget this is your showcase online and it could impact on your own work. If you produce music and someone who could utilise your production skills may think how you would like your work criticised. Perhaps less is more as your demeanour illustrates. Sorry but that's an honest assessment, best not to piss every 'superfan' off; My advice is to keep your opinions less like a personal attack since we can't assess you abilities or qualifications.
its always a good thing to take notice and learn from people who have succes.. when you self are in the proces..in general
I guess US americans can´t appreciate the greatest music act in history because its not US american...

I think this review is revolting and horrible and I posted a long review of the lazy reviewer. He is unprofessional and ignorant. This guy is a jerk. You are crazy about the Christmas song they already have a song for the new year song and they never did a song for Christmas and the real fans of abba wanted a song for Christmas
They also did a brilliant masterpiece tune about Soldiers .

I'm surprised how much I agree with you about the individual songs despite the fact you clearly know nothing about ABBA. They're in their 70s now, btw, so it's unlikely they'll be writing and singing songs with the same subjects and energy as before.
Not surprised ABBA fans would hate you for this review.
Hahahhahahhahaha what a joke this video.
"ABBA is like Fleetwood Mac basically"... Time to press stop and move on to the next clip, which won't be from this channel...
A fair shot?
As an Abba fan since the beginning, I did not particularly like the album much and it is OK to not like it since it is all a very subjective experience.
The reviewer, however, showed really poor critical analysis. He obviously did no homework whatsoever and seem to think Abba were fronted by a single female soloist.
The whole review was really worthless. I can still accept a critique that doesn't like it, but show at least you did a bit of preparation especially if you claim to be a music producer and you are going to publish that review.

The Christmas song is truly cringy esp for me who truly believed they did not do this for the money but there was obviously an attempt to cash in on the coming festive season. As for Bumblebee, the monotony of the voice drives me crazy. Silken though the voice is, it is like a metronome and I just wanted it to end. Standout songs for me are the 3 earlier released songs.

Correction: “Okjay Bjoomer”
Despite being a long time ABBA fan, your candid viewpoint was refreshing. For me, you accurately describe my okay middle of the road sentiments on Just a Notion and as for I Can Be That Woman, all those cringy references to the dog. Little Things, if it receives much Holiday play at all, the song sadly won't stick around for long. In my opinion, Don't Shut Me Down is a great all round song and No Doubt About it is one I might have expected from ABBA way back in '80's, Frida does a bang up job with it!
As for the voices, Agnetha has a wonderful higher clear rich tone, Frida's voice is deeper, lusty and of more accent in which comes out in ABBA's live recordings and performances, studio tracks had been somewhat speeded up or whatever somehow altered regarding this.
Your review is casual and off the cuff, if it doesn't tickle your ears, so be it, we all like different things, but glad you had also noted some bright spots on the album.
Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I honestly think if they would've stuck with that nostalgic feel of songs like "When You Danced with Me" they could've had a really cool album. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed the album in general. It's always nice when a favorite artist releases new music!
@@KevinBessey I thought it was funny, well actually not so funny how defensive some fans will become. Over the years, I've known peps that simply apparently hate ABBA no matter what song it might be, like how could anyone truly dislike Fernando, The Name of The Game, Take a Chance on Me, Knowing Me Knowing You etc. Whereas, I have tended to admire and love to one degree or another most all ABBA songs, though admittedly with a few exceptions because they're just badly written, for example Baby You Owe Me One, even Benny has stated of not liking the song.
Honestly, despite my love of ABBA, I agree with most of your comments, the album was a bit of a let down for not better recapturing that ABBA magic of deep melody and harmony that sticks in one's brain and NEVER ever leaves.
@@TRguy64 Beg to differ. Lyrics for "The Visitors", "Eagle", "Move On, "Soldiers", "The Piper", "Cassandra", and many others are evocative and poignant. Many of their pop classics too - "Chiquitita", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Gonna Sing You My Lovesong" direct and impactful lyrics. "You Owe Me One" is just a fun little b-side, not their best work and there were many examples of similarly fluffy lyrics. But even then, the music is fantastic - "Dum Dum Diddle", "Bang-A-Boomerang" are some lesser known deep cuts that still have more melodic twists than some artists' entire albums.

@@rodrigoguabiraba600 Yes. It'd be like someone finding a rap song for the first time and saying "hey, what's all this talking - yawn - why can't he sing"? That'd be considered idiotic and culturally offensive. And rightly so.

Instead, he waves a contemptuous US-centric millennial hand at the whole swansong.
There are perfectly valid criticisms to be made of the record, but to do so, you need to be properly versed in the context.
