I’m glad to see you sieve your glaze. I have to tell you, be careful using that metal paint stirrer. I was mixing my slip last month and after having poured all of my molds for that day I was cleaning the seems and saw red marks in the clay. Come to find out the red coating on the mixer came off!! It was all over in the slip and my pieces!! I had to let everything dry out and then break it all down and make it into slip again then sieve the slip. I don’t even know if that will be enough but I did get several chunks out of the slip.
Yikes! I didn't realize that could happen. Thanks for the heads up Michele! I also didn't realize you could just crumble up bone dry slipcast forms and throw them back into the slip bucket?! 🤯. I'll have to try that. Thanks! -mj
So using a plaster instead of a silicone is a must, because it sucks the water out?
yes. the plaster sucks water out of the slip and into the mold. The longer you leave the slip in, the thicker the wall of your vessel.
your slip might be too wet. what is your specific gravity?
Can you put the link to the 60 mesh sieve that you used on top of the pitcher?

this is the one i bought many years ago. there are probably better versions now.
@@OutpostPottery Thank you
What is the ratio or percentage of sodium silicate u in relation to the weight of the slip?
15% Silica in my recipe. I mix all the dry elements together then add them to 2 gallons of water.
slip???
Slip is clay that is liquefied. You use it to join pieces or in this case he is using it in a process called slipcasting. Slipcasting is a process of pouring "slip" into a plaster mold and using capillary action (plaster sucking the water out of the slip to create clay) to make a shell or walls of your form. The slip inside your piece will be poured out of the plaster mold so all you have inside is a wall of clay
