As a K-12 Art Teacher for 30 years I am so impressed with your quick and well thought out videos. I especially like the 2-d paper additions . Very clever. Please keep teaching us more fun ways to be successful!
Please don't stop making videos. This is by far the best explanation on the logic behind molds. THANK YOU! And you add comedy. I loved it. I subscribed because you're thorough without being overwhelming. Thank you Shelly!
can I just say ur little cutouts are absolutely adorable and also very efficient in demonstrating how to see where to make seams and how things can be obstructed. Thank you from a visual learner
The way you pour to avoid splashing and air bubbles (2:52) is genius. I'm about to make my first 4-part mold (top, bottom, and split middle section to deal with undercuts) to make a complex shape in urethane rubber, and your process for doing the 2nd part of your mold is exactly what I needed to know.
You're legit af coming in clutch with more then I thought I would find out about slip molds in one video ! I make boro items for shops . I'm purchasing a new small kiln of Craigslist and it's being sold with all these forming molds / slip mold blocks . My old kiln is good just some type of switch or contact issue , I need a medium size production kiln though right away . I have a dental micro kiln , it's the easy bake oven of kilns lol , it's getting me by also I can just make more quartz items . To make your own molds for ones self never occurred to me , seems incredibly useful .
This was honestly the BEST, most thorough explanation of slip cast mold making I've seen. Thank you so much! 💕 There were so many parts that previous videos just did not think to explain. I finally feel like I can try this for myself 🙌🏼
Tip* Instead of using soap - use Vaseline, then you don't have to layer your soap 5 times. :} This is actually a great video. I like how you drew pictures to show examples of locking your keys, and showing undercuts. Sometimes trying to explain this without a way to show someone is tough but this is great. I will definitely save and share this to folks who are learning how to do multi-part molds.
It is super important to make sure you don't get any vaseline on the parts of the mold that will come in contact with your ceramic, because then it wont absorb the moisture evenly and you'll end up with an uneven cast ;( If you want something thicker, so you don¨t have to apply it five times, you could make your own soapmixture by graining and dissolving a hard soap bar in water. If you heat it it will dissolve easier and be easier to get thick. But be aware that a thick soap is more prone to leave markings, which could affect the cast outcome.
thank yoooooouuuuu so much for this! I'm new to pottery but this was such a perfect explanation of this process. Love it! Can't wait to binge-watch your channel this weekend
This helped a lot. I have a very complex shape to build a mold around and I'm having trouble visualizing how to deal with the undercuts. Not many videos cover this, so thanks!
This video was everything I've needed! I'm so glad I found your channel. You deserve so many more subs, but you got an extra one from me today. Thanks so much!
Merci pour ce partage 🙏🏻 tout est super clair, pédagogique et explicatif…. Bravo pour ce tutoriel si bien réalisé et pour la qualité de ce qui y est démontré 🖐🏽🤗🤎
Very clear video! ❤ you used the plastic shampoo bottle to make the shape, but is it also possible to make the shape from a glass, resin or ceramics object? And are there materials you can’t use to make the shape with? 😊
hello there! thank you for this information very helpful! so I'm wondering if you've made silicone molds? also do you think this same technique could be used to make silicone molds. Im trying to make silicone molds because I fee like they are lighter, easier to store and remove from the item I'm molding. Im curious to see what you think on the topic and what your thoughts are! Thanks in advance!
I know this is an old video, but I'm really hoping you can answer this question, so that mold looks like it would just be used to make something solid in that shape, is that correct? What if someone wanted to make a mold to be used to make an actual bottle in that shape? Say with like resin, how would one make a mold in that shape, to use to make their own bottle in that shape with resin, is that possible? To use this mold to make a replica of that bottle, but with resin, or could it only make a solid piece in that overall shape? And if so, how would one make a mold, to make an actual bottle shaped that way, out of resin, if they could? So they could put water or something in it?

Your paper illustrations are particularly helpful. Really like how you "step 1, step 2..." Great video.
Why not put bottle top side (mouth) down, dug into clay square, wall up, and pour plaster in? Thanks. Excellent video. I am a beginner! 😊
I was about to say how cute they are!
