My own opinion - they had to close down the plant in Japan. They had a fair supply of cars in the US. Why not change over the lines with new product line. They would have been making "old" cars if they didn't do this, and they would have still had to change the lines over.

If Toyota would just install that CVT transmission with the launch gear, into all of the Corolla models, that would make the design a winner. But instead, they put the old power-sapping CVT into most of the Corolla models and that is a shame because it makes the cars far less fuel-efficient than they otherwise would be. I have 2020 SE CVT, had a 2017 LE The 2020 is without a doubt, the BEST driving Corolla EVER. It is actually FUN, and still can get very good mileage. Handling is not to Mazda 3 or Golf levels, but it is MUCH closer than ever before. It is more comfortable than my 17, and faster too. Nits to pick on.... the Infotainment center (standard SE version) is OK. The standard Toyota Entune Suite is the most annoying, useless crap ever, and it would have been better to leave it out. Android Auto (not available on my car), or Apple CarPlay is the only way to go. On the sport models.... NEEDS BETTER BRAKES....the stock ones fade way to easy (moderate hard sporting driving). The headlights seem to be LESS effective than the ones in my 2017, which is odd. Things to rave. MUCH more stable at speed than the older ones. Will cruise at 90mph effortlessly (but suffers a hit on gas mileage). Will do go to jail speeds if you are not paying attention, and have a heavy foot. The Distance Control Cruise is a godsend in traffic. Overall, if you are looking for a new car in this class.... highly recommended. BUT FIX THE HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKES TOYOTA.

I think the Corolla is the best small car available. Take car of one and they can last over 300,000 miles. I like how Toyota still has a manual transmission available. A good manual transmission will last forever.
With the new framework, and a little bit of power boost, this car deserves the word fun next to it. If I can throw a 170hp beetle on left turns and around the bends with gusto, then I can do it with this too plus the added nostalgia of high revs from the Levin/True o era: sadly without the sound and rwd. Still my point still stands that this car is fun, and it's definitely not a "joke of auto" or one of those ancient insults. Corolla evolved for the better and that's good. If they add more power, or not, this will be an easy buy.
I totally agree with you. The Corolla is not a boring car anymore. It has indeed evolved into a very well handling platform that can be thrown around corners :)

Just bought the SE 2020 3 weeks ago. 😢
bought a LE 2020 4weeks ago lol
No Android Auto and no Manual Gearbox is a dislike from me.
Went from a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 to a 2021 Corolla. Loving it so far.
How exciting, Sean! 😍 What are you loving the most about your Corolla so far?
Woo-hoo
