    Thanks for watching.
And before the inevitable reply of "But it's gud with friends!" comes along, remind yourself that ANYTHING can be fun and good when you're with friends, even kicking a can down the street could be hugely enjoyable in the right company. So really, when you think about it...if you use this argument to defend an activity, you're actually just praising the great company of your friends. So remember to appreciate them!

Its just not the game for you clearly. People like it, I like it. It feels like the counter-strike of vr. (yes for me it "feels" more like cs than rainbow). And counter strike in its essence is a barebone fps game, but its a classic competitive format. And breachers feel very similar. Yes it's a barebone shooter, but it's good at what it does. Would it be cool to have a "realistic" swat type shooter? sure, but the one we have is fun either way. Im more concerned about all the demo games that still keep coming out, like car detailing and hair dressing etc. Breachers at least has replayability and action (of course, for people who enjoy it in the first place)

One of the problems with paying 20 euro for a multiplayer game... When the VR hype train had passed, there is no one left to play with. Are there not enough FPS VR games now? The bar must be high in this genre.

Good video, but I disagree with you so much. Sure the game isnt perfect but it does what it promised (R6 in VR). I ve played the game in beta (not the full version yet) and I have to say that I had a good times playing it (without friends). I have to agree with you that 30€ for this is really too much (so I am waiting on sale) and it is something that can completely ruin the title and its player base. The "roadmap" is weird in case of Breachers and it should be based around content (new maps, weapons, skins, mods, etc) and not gun animations, bhaptics or queue with friends. But lets be honest we ve all seen much much worse roadmaps than this

I never knew about this game at all, till i found it on the popular page on the oculus store. So i knew absolutely nothing about the game other than that it was similar to R6 with CSGO's eco system. After a week, i was truly hooked onto this game, although it lacks content, the amount of options you have with the limited content there is, makes the game feel extremely polished and the gun play is simple and easy to pick up, but yet player skill still outways that. So long as this game consistently updates like it has been, this game will have nothing but improvements made to it.
its a solid Vr game for me, the UI interaction and the gadgets feels great on top of that.

It's cool for what it is, is it unique? In VR it is. is it fun? Yeah, pretty fun (subjectively). is it revolutionary? Kinda, Pavlov has Search and Destroy but is not quite the same. Trying to coordinate with a team using mainly stealth and gadgets to gain the advantage on a closed building is the appeal, and if it's not enough for you that's fair.
I agree that it's not for everyone though (as with everything), as you said: "If you see the gameplay and think... 'meh', then you're spot on", couldn't agree more with that.
I would love for you to elaborate more on the things you did not like but it's okay.

I am the only person in my immediate friend group who has a VR headset, so I'm writing this from the same "solo" play perspective that you have made the video.
Breachers is very unoriginal. It's blatantly a simplified and shallow imitation of both Rainbow Six Siege and round economy based shooters like Counter Strike. It has no real original ideas, and even as an imitation, it fails to imitate the needed gameplay complexity and systems of the games that it spoofs.
A video game being unoriginal seems to be an issue for you at a basic level, that a game must and should innovate in some way to succeed as a game.
I understand the grievance with Breachers on this point, and I too tend to prefer games that try to do something new or different from what has been done before. But I also think that
Breachers as a game is still very enjoyable.
To me, innovation in video games-though preferred-is not necessary to my enjoyment of a game.
Breachers set out to make a simplified imitation of Rainbow Six Siege in VR, and I think they succeeded. What they have promised to deliver is what is there in the game right now at launch. And though I would hope for it to become a more competent clone, it already delivers a very satisfying and polished gameplay loop that I find myself enjoying even playing by myself.
Now, the price is a point I can’t disagree with. Even though I am obviously a fan of Breachers as a game; even I’m not wooed enough to say that 30€ is an acceptable price for a game with such a simple game mode and only three maps.
It’s a very good 10€ game, and a pretty decent 20€ game. But for 30€ it is outrageous.
I don’t recommend anyone buying the game for the price that it is right now. But if they add more content to the game; more maps and gamemodes, and more in depth mechanics. Then I’d be more than happy to recommend Breachers to any VR gamers, even at the 30€ price point.

*EDIT: I realized that I'm basically just repeating what you said in the video. GG
I always like your reviews. But this game, it's popular because it's another competitive shooter that people are familiar with (Rainbow 6 Siege), and it's the first version of R6 for VR. That's why people love it, now thankfully, you rate the game, not why it's unfairly hyped.

A counterpoint to your statement at 2:00 , I had a game where I heard a player running outside, stuck my gun out the window with one hand and blind sprayed and got the kill. A super satisfying VR moment.

I recently got this game, and it's been an absolute game-changer for me. Ever since I upgraded to the Oculus Quest 3, I've been on the lookout for something that really justifies the use of VR technology. This game does exactly that. It's rekindled my passion for virtual reality, something I haven't felt since my first days with the Quest 1.
The key highlight for me is the multiplayer aspect. It's a game that truly shines when you have a buddy or two to team up with. The way this game forces teamwork adds a whole new level of enjoyment. Plus, since everyone is on a VR device equipped with a microphone, communication flows seamlessly. This not only makes for effective team strategies but also opens the door to making new friends in the virtual world.
I 100% recommend, and now with black friday, its a good time to pick up :D

Glad you're able to enjoy and it has rekindled your passion, genuinely happy for you.
However I take issue with you saying Breachers "really justifies the use of VR technology." This makes 0 sense to me is demonstrably false.
*None* of the interactions take unique advanatage of VR whatsoever, everything it does can be emulated on a flatscreen without issue, there is nothing this game does which can *only* be done well or interestingly in VR. The reloads in particular are a devolution of both flatscreen and VR, and would be laughed at by flatscreen players if the animations played out this way, so why is it acceptable in VR?
Furthermore, the gameplay design of things like movement actively discourages physical movement in favour of typical strafe spam aim down sights 24/7 gameplay which is ubiquitous with flatscreen.
Proven by watching any gameplay/gunfight footage and seeing it just looks like janky gameplay of an unfinished flatscreen title with bad animations.
I'm interested to hear your perspective on how this game justifies VR technology in light of what I've said.
EDIT: If your meaning is the multiplayer setting which you enjoy so much, then it should be pointed out that has nothing to do with VR as a medium. Nor does the game do anything unique with it.

      @@MrVRVoice
To my mind, there are two ways in which you could interpret the original comment:
A: They think that Breachers justifies being a VR game, rather than a flat screen one.
B: They feel that Breachers justifies them, as a player, using VR.
I believe you may be misunderstanding what this person was trying to communicate. I think the intent was interpretation B, while you responded to A. Regardless of whether or not I've correctly assessed which interpretation you described as being "demonstrably false", I would argue that this objective statement of yours is far more subjective than you may realise.
Let's start with B, because that's the obvious one: If someone enjoys a game so much that it single-handedly justifies them being a VR user, there's nothing to argue there, it's just an opinion. For the record, I don't count myself in this camp. I love Breachers, but for this game alone, I wouldn't have gotten into VR.
Now, on to A, and why I think that even this doesn't justify calling an opinion "demonstrably false".
I want to start this bit off by saying that I would agree with you on almost all of the criticisms you have of Breachers. The one major disagreement I have are the reloads. Yes, they look laughable, but they're consistent and easy to learn. A shooter focused on competitive matches is, in my opinion, far better off having this sort of streamlined system, rather than something cool and janky like Pavlov. I also don't think calling these reloads a "devolution of flat screen" reloads holds true, as a flat screen reload mechanic is even simpler than this: It's a single button press, it just looks better. These canned animations translate horribly into VR though (hello Fallout 4), so comparing these directly feels like a weird point to make. Breachers' reload system isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but getting so hung up on it misses the point that they are simplistic on purpose, because intricate gunplay isn't the focus of this game. In short: "so why is it acceptable in VR?" - because it suits the kind of game Breachers is.
Then there's this bit you added here: "If your meaning is the multiplayer setting which you enjoy so much, then it should be pointed out that has nothing to do with VR as a medium. Nor does the game do anything unique with it."
I would argue that the multiplayer enjoyment in Breachers has a ton to do with VR as a medium. I've played competitive shooters for a decade now, and the kinds of social/teamplay interactions you get in VR are miles apart from your usual CS/Siege lobby. Two factors are important there:
      - Everyone has a mic strapped to their face, so the barrier of getting people talking is far, faaar lower than with flat screen games. The chance of having a full team on comms is astronomically higher than any flat screen game I've ever played, it happens every other game - and that is in Europe, where lots of people don't/barely speak English.
      - Don't underestimate what seeing people's bodies while they talk does for social immersion. Seeing people make gestures with their hands, shaking their heads, pointing at each other etc. adds so much to a multiplayer experience which, again, could never be replicated flat screen. It also adds a tactical element, as you can gesture people to come with you, hold a position, etc.
The most important part, in my opinion: I do not believe that a game needs to justify it being in VR by doing things which can only be done in this medium. Playing something familiar in VR is already justification enough for it to exist, especially when you consider the market Breachers released into.
As a big flat screen FPS player, I tried every VR shooter I could get my hands on. None of them ever gave me the high-stakes competitive experience I'd grown to love from CS and Siege. Pavlov is janky and disadvantages tall players like myself by giving us gigantic hitboxes, Contractors is... contractors, and Vail had its struggles behind the scenes (haven't looked at it in a while). The most important issue when wanting to play a proper comp shooter in VR is that all these games try to do way too many different things, splitting the playerbase between different modes as well as mods.
The thing that made Breachers my most played game last year wasn't that it's a uniquely VR game, sporting mechanics impossible to implement in flat screen. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to play a comp shooter like that some day, but the industry evidently isn't at the point where this is possible yet. No, what makes Breachers so special to players like myself is that it's the first VR shooter we've gotten which is entirely focused on this round-based, competitive framework, and executes on it almost flawlessly.
The reason people are so excited about this game, I would argue, is not how innovative it is, but that it's a proven blueprint of a game, "ported" to VR. You obviously love VR, otherwise you wouldn't have this channel. What I don't quite get is how someone into VR such as yourself would fail to understand the intrinsic value the medium has for lots of people. Most Flat2VR mods, for example, take zero advantage of being in VR in terms of mechanics, but these games are still greatly enhanced by being in VR. Would I love a more involved, VR-interaction-focused comp shooter? Absolutely. But for now, I'm just excited that I can get a version of games I love, and play them in this far more immersive medium.
Getting a one tap with the Deagle in CS feels great. However, doming someone with the Taurus in Breachers just hits so much harder. In the end, it's that simple.
Anyway, thanks for reading the essay.

@@MrVRVoice Breachers is my most played game in VR, mostly because I play it competitively in leagues, but I agree with you I find it very disappointing it doesn't profit from VR. A lot of reasons are also for accessibility, so that the game is playable for more people, but then I wonder why even make it in VR? This game could literally be played in flatscreen without a problem, one click reload, grab from afar, no dual wielding or other freedoms of interaction, no collisions etc.

Very unrelated to Breachers in some way, while being very related in other ways. Hype trains around games such as this one, i refuse to step into. Bonelab was a dissapointment. And so was breachers.
