I really want to buy your Signature Bass from Sweetwater. I have some questions. I am conflicted can you help me out. Should I pay for their "Sweetwater Pre-Ship Pleking"? What are you thoughts. Also, do you have a good matching Hardcase suggestion? And if I change the strings what would you recommend I mainly mess around alone. Many styles. I lean heavily toward the Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Jaco, Berthoud. Camp.
I've been wanting to have a shot at learning this one for years, but never managed to work out what techniques were going on and where. This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for!! As a long time bassist who's already spent far too long trying to get down my double thumb, double pluck, left-hand slap etc., I've never quite got this style of tapping + strumming down. This is just what I needed to try and take my slap to another level, with a really good breakdown of all the magic Victor's doing on the track. Now (with a little more practice), there's a chance I *Can* Hold No Groove!!
I've seen Victor with the Flecktones 10 times. Met him and got his autograph on the ticket stub almost every time. I even saw him break a string during Sinister Minister and keep going. Everyone single time he left me with my jaw on the floor and considering quitting music.
I have seen the Flecktones 4x (once with Howard Levy 🤯) and each time Victor has played a solo that made me cry. I am not a cryer. I didn't even cry when my dear grandfather died. Victor is so special. So nice to meet too.
@dropclutch1 wish I could have met him/reggie/Joseph and the gang. I saw him at Ronnie's scotts in London, doing the Dennis chamber and awsome sax player set
I’ve been listening to this song for years and I never realized how easy the polyrhythmic section is. I mean not “Easy” but way easier than it sounds. The way you break it down into smaller parts lets my brain comprehend 😂
"Before we start, I just want to give a quick disclaimer that this is a pretty tough bassline" :) Thanks for posting this! One of my silly turning-50 goals is to learn this song. Happy to see this come out! That middle section with tapping out the bassline with the left hand while ALSO fretting for the strummed melody is ridiculous!
“It’s not so bad, just do this slap, double pop, double strum 16th note triplets - and…go!” 🤯🤯🤯 Kidding aside, this is an awesome tutorial - ive been chipping away at this song for years and can see why I’m so stuck, and likely would not improve since I’ve had the technique mostly wrong. Would love to see future videos on creative uses of harmonics and how to really nail things like in this song where you simultaneously play a bass note along with multiple harmonics and get them all to ring out so nicely!
Having a 21 frets 4 strings bass, my solution to the 1st phrase's tapped G string's 24th fret is just to play the natural harmonic on the G string's 5th fret. Nevertheless, I do agree that it sound much more fun to just add a small fun lick instead though.
This is Great! I've been practicing this mounstrocity by watching many Wooten videos, Charles' cover and other covers. And I'm almost there. Do you happen to have the backing track in your Patreon's?? I'd totally buy it! I wanna give it a go and record it.
If your struggling, set your action stupendously low so you dont have to strike as hard to get a click..you want the the strings to easily bounce off the fret wire..
Hey Charles, are you aware of Skyguitar? I suggest doing tutorials how they do it as they are perfect. Play it regular, then half speed with the tab and notes. This is too slow for my brain to process.
Berthoud's Signature bass has a defective bridge finish. When adjusting the intonation and bridge saddles the paint finish separates, chips and peels just by the use of a screwdriver or allen key. The chips from the paint fall into the pocket area of the bridge. Secondly, this is an indication of possibly using only one coat of paint with or without a primer. Also, the painted bridge was most likely not correctly timed during the heat transfer process so to properly harden making it one monolithic piece. Chances are the painted bridge was not put under a heating exchange prcess at all. This will definitely cause more peeling in the near future by normal use. The other possibility due to poor paint adherence is from a mixture of poor quality metals that make up the bridge. In any event, the paint application is a result of poor quality. It is unfortunate that an artist has to experience something as described above on their musical instrument especially when purchasing it brand new. Schecter has to step up and take responsibility for this as it cannot be an isolated case. In short, a primer is applied first then several coats of a top paint are applied and then the next step is a hardened sealant to protect the layers of paint. For years of duration to follow it must be baked for a specified amount of time. This is not the case here. Shame on Schecter for poor quality control.
Fantastic vidéo! You should try to reach Charles Berthoud, another great bass player, he has a youtube channel and I'm sure you could something very cool with him (he even comments here sometimes) 🤭

Charles, you're the hero of all bass players
I listened to the Dead Wax episode a hundred times trying to learn the ghost notes in the breakdown section…only for Charles to write the tabs for it
This might the cleanest version of this song I’ve ever heard!!!

Love how you broke down the different parts.

Man that little lick with the left hand slap is such a musical tongue twister. It’s the hardest part for me so far lol
I don’t play bass but this was so satisfying to watch 😂
shooo this is so hard, im tryna learn it but ive never really dealth with strums and left handed tapping before so phew this is gonna take a while
Uhhh yeah the main theme and variations are enough to impress my friends thank you 😂

Your new signature bass is so nice looking. On the bucket list to check out and/or get one day for sure!
This is crazy. Thank you for posting this!
Good teacher and good bass player
This song is quite easy to learn but incredible hard to make it sounds well.. thanks for the video!!
if you don't have 24 frets, you can use the 19 fret (which is a D, the fifth if a G)
As a Fender player I am pleased to hear this. Thanks much🎉
Great lesson!! I’ve been trying to figure this out for years and couldn’t get it to sound right.
Thanks for sharing! You are an amazing bass player and teacher 🙌🏼
Can't wait for the rest!

Drop the final section!! Can’t wait I’ve almost got it down
Geez! How to learn play bass like you? It sounds like a tons of hours of practice. I think I need to reborn to make this time for practice lol.
This is great. Been using YertleTheTurtleBass version for yrs.
1:19 The harmonic on the fifth fret is the same as the 24th, so I always go for that
This is a song that I’ve dabbled with over the years but this is the tutorial I’ve needed to tie it all together
Second part pls!!! I wanna know play polyrhythmic two-voice part, which will be next. Every day of waiting feels like a week.
Thank you very much for making this video! 🖖🤩
Why am i listening to this, i don't have the time or the will to learn something that complicated 😂
About time 🤣🤣🤟
👏🏻🥈
@@BassCampOfficial I’ll get first comment one of these days 🤣
9:15 ok how does this work?😂
If you don’t have a 24 fret bass you can play the harmonic where the 24th would be too in the intro 😊

What can you say about this particular Schecter bass? Do you like it's tone?
Hey Charles, are you aware of Skyguitar? I suggest doing tutorials how they do it as they are perfect. Play it regular, then half speed with the tab and notes. This is too slow for my brain to process.
YEEEY I KNOW HOW TO PLAY IT
Is the PDF to this available ?
It is seems so easy but really is so hard! 😅 I think that I need to practice techniques first.
♥️♥️♥️
👏🏻🥇
Hi master charles. How to achieve that tone. What is your EQ settings
Can you please do a tutorial for the sinister minister (especially the solo)! :)
Hi please would you make a tutorial on Get lucky ?
I love you videos 😄😃
So that 03030 thing… you seemed to be playing that a string down, is that correct?

Sounds best on an active bass, it seems.
Around 12:40, how do you play the triplet while tapping the 3 on the d string? Or do you slap both the muted a string and the 3 on the d?
On original record victor slapping ringing d string without muting
