    Great list! As a mom of two I just wanted to add for any first time moms, cut yourself a lot of slack! I know in Instagram it looks like the newborn phase is so easy and breezy. For a lot of us it's not! But you'll figure it out and adjust to your new normal. I didn't feel like myself until 7 months in to be honest.
    I would also reccomend looking up postpartum depression symptoms with your partner so you can both hopefully recognize if these are things you are experiencing. No shame! You are still an amazing mom!

    PACK YOUR HOSPITAL BAG was a hugeeee one for me, so right! A few weeks into the third trimester, I had an emergency c-sec so my husband kept going back and forth because there were things I forgot to ask him for; if we were prepared, he’d have more time with us - you just don’t know what will happen in the third trimester.
    I’m prepping for my second but I wish I found this channel when I had my first - This channel is definitely one of the best, very informative, explained easily, reflects on previous experience and is straightforward

      Hey another wee tip for dogs is to take a small blanket/muslin to the hospital with you and wrap your new baby up in it for a while, then before you go home get your hubby/partner/family/friend (?!) to take it to your dog so they get introduced to the smell of baby before you’re home. It can really help xx

    My husband thinks I was crazy for purchasing a breastfeeding course but it helped me a TON. I don’t think I would have been able to breastfeed my daughter if it weren’t for that course. It even helped me create my birth plan so that I did have a positive breastfeeding experience from the start. It’s so important to know what you want in the hospital and be able to confidently tell the doctors and nurses what you want. I’m expecting baby number 2 now and I feel super confident and I’m excited to create my birth plan again. :)

    I took my son to the grocery store by myself for the first time when he was like a month old and I called my husband at work in a panic because I couldn’t figure out how to get his car seat out of the base 🤣. And I was also someone who prepared in all the wrong ways - researched heavily about all of the “stuff” that we needed instead of looking into how to actually care for the baby. Breastfeeding was so so hard for me and I wish I had already picked out a lactation consultant & a dentist to help with his tongue tie, etc so I didn’t have to worry about researching while exhausted. Another piece of advice I wish I had was to arrange for help not only for when the baby is first born but for when your partner goes back to work (if that’s your situation). My mom took off the week my son was born to help us but my husband was still home and we were doing ok, so I think next time I’m going to ask her to take off the week that my husband goes back to work.

Thank you for listing so many things that most people don’t talk about!

    I added to my checklist: Get ready all the paperwork that the baby needs before labour, and know what paperwork have to be done after born. (Maybe there will be more documents to get done in one country than another. Or if the case is that the baby is going to have a double citizenship.) It is included here all that has to do with benefits, maternity leave...

    When breastfeeding follow babies hunger cues. Feed on demand. Know if baby is wanting to nurse constantly it's normal and it's how baby builds your supply. When baby is wanting to nurse constantly it's called cluster feeding. There are a bunch of breastfeeding videos here on UA-cam. There are also IBCLC (international board certified lactation consultant)

  • @ClementineHughes
    @ClementineHughes 3 роки тому +9

    Just wanted to add about doing research about breastfeeding, sleeping, schedules or anything baby-related, if you don’t think it will help you, don’t do it! It’s good to be armed with helpful information, but if you are the type of person to obsess over those kinds of things, I would recommend not researching into things too much. Just ask your doctor or a trusted fellow mom for advice if any issues come up. Every baby is different so your baby might not follow the exact schedule that is recommended. They might not eat or sleep or play the exact way that you read about online. I know for me, whenever I would get worried about some breastfeeding issue, I would look it up. But that ended up making me much more stressed because of all the conflicting information out there. When I stopped worrying and stopped pumping to help my supply, that is when everything became smooth sailing. And I am now 26 weeks pregnant and still breastfeeding my 15 month old.

    Just on pre- sterilising: it's only 'sterile' if the steriliser container hasn't been opened and only for 12 hours. (Also dishwashers can be hot, but don't officially reach sterilising temp, if it did, it would be an autoclave) There's a reason anything sterile at hospital has sealed packages. So totally pre-wash, but sterile doesn't last so don't bother.

    I’ve been watching bby videos for months now (literally 2-5 a day 😅😂)and this is the first one in over a month that actually addressed things I hadn’t thought of or come across yet. Thankyou! 😍

      I would add looking up lactation consultants before the baby is born and having them come regardless of whether you think you’re doing well or not. They weigh the baby before and after the feeding, they tweak things during the nursing session, give you advice, help if the latch isn’t deep enough, etc.

    Thank you for this! My wife is 25 weeks pregnant. We are in baby registry mode and have become so focused on that we are losing sight of what really matters... how to take care of this child! We both studied to be teachers and know a lot about children but not much about newborns.

    ⚠️stack your freezer! I was so occupied with my newborn for 7 weeks! I never imagined i would be this out 👀 first 3 weeks i couldn't do anything. Then my time was still 99% occupied by my baby. Cooking didn't happen😮‍💨 For the next baby i will have everything ready.
    You said you don't know what to make, so here are a few options:
    Bolognese sauce. You can eat or with pasta or vegetables.
    Chili con came
    Meatballs with tomato sauce
    Curry -
    Meat dishes with gravy (I'm German so you probably don't know them)
    Soups
    You can cook rice once a week and then only re-heat it

    This was very helpful! I am very keen on breastfeeding (and later breastfeeding, pumping and bottlefeeding), but I was initally planning on just getting a pump a little further down the track once I was looking to return to work. This makes me realise I should probs have the pump Ready to go in case they can't latch and I want to pump straightaway, as well as look into formula just in case end up going down that path.

    • @dianes6103
      @dianes6103 3 роки тому

      I ended up buying a pump from the hospital pharmacy the second day after delivery because my babe had to go to the nicu and couldn't latch effectively.
      Definitely good to figure out which one you want and have in ready to go in your bag!

    Omg I can't believe how many good points you made that I totally would never have thought of. Like don't keep the carseat in the car beforehand just in case you get into an accident, or to sterilize pump parts. Pregnancy brain has me totally fried. Thank you so much.

    I just found out that you don’t have a nursery nurse in the US😲 I’m from the Netherlands and we have a ‘kraamverzorgende’ that educates and support the parents how to take care of the baby in the first week home (costs are included in health care insurance, it’s mandatory because they do daily check-ups of health of baby and mom). It was still helpful to what’s your video to know what to expect. Respect for US (and other countries?) mommas figuring things out on there own!

    Depending on the manufacturer the base will also have to be replaced if you were in an accident. Not just the seat itself. I recommend practicing installing the car seat but not leaving it installed. Wait to keep it installed until you're in labor or the day before your scheduled induction/ c-section.

    First off- new subbie! This video was the truth! This is exactly what I was looking for in terms of content. I had a baby 12 years ago so everything is new. I feel like everything should be intuitive since I’m a second time mom, but honestly, I simply don’t remember everything, plus, my breastfeeding journey was horrible and only lasted about 3 months last time. I really want to get better sleep etc., especially since I’m 35 now and not the young woman I was when I had my son 12 years ago. I know the key to that is prep and research. We didn’t have all these resources 12 years ago, and I didn’t have the budget to attend a million child prep classes (I did lamaze at about 32 weeks, and read What to Expect When Expecting, but that was about it). I remember being exhausted all the time, and I cut off all my hair (its waist length, curly, thick and very time consuming). I just want to get as much knowledge as I can early on, and now that I can afford a lot more I want to give my child the absolute best thats out there (as long as it makes sense ie: I’ll be renting the Snoo, no need to buy it since its my last child, etc.). Ok, my rant is over lol. Thank you so much!

    Also pro tip.... if you have a lot of newborn and 0-3 month clothes..... prewash HALF and leave half with tags on them.... so if baby grows too quickly and doesn't wear them all they can be returned, or sold if their past return window, since clothes with tags are easier to sell. (They also work for last-minute baby gifts) with my first I washed everything and I had so many outfits she never wore even once.... but they were all detagged and washed so they were "used clothes" even though they weren't used.... so I have washed about half of both those sizes and if baby spends a lot of time in those sizes I can clip tags and wash as we go, and I already have a stash washed and ready to go... but if he outgrows his newborn stuff in a week, I still have the tags on most of it so I can return the stuff that is within the return window, and sell the rest on marketplace as brand new with tags!
