Wow so much negativity people! Everyone’s definition of “essential” is personal. What’s essential for a first time mum to an experienced mum will differ. What’s essential in some cultures vs. other cultures will differ. Essentials can even differ based on the layout of your house and accessibility of items. It’s all relative. I found this video when I was first pregnant with dreams and vision of a baby as lovely as yours. Then, I had a miscarriage and lost my baby. Post myomectomy and pregnant with 13 weeks old baby again I refound this video, here I am crying for the baby I lost and making notes for the one I am now carrying.
As a quick safety note, loungers like the Snuggle Me or Dockatot are not considered safe for sleep of any kind (the products will have those warnings in the fine print too). Babies are meant to be supervised at all times when using them because the soft sides create a risk of suffocation and rebreathing. Definitely do your research about the risks before you decide what's right for your baby.
Yes, agreed! And co-sleeping is also not recommended for the same reason. SIDS is very real, and having your baby sleep on a flat, hard surface with no loose fabric near them will greatly reduce the chance of SIDS
@@ashleezaccardi4029 if you look at the actual data, babies sleeping in cribs in rooms by themselves also die from SIDS. Look into "breastsleeping" and le leches league. Just because the APA says something doesn't mean it's true.
I coslept with both of my children and they are fine. What do people think our ancestors did? I'm part native American, can you imagine cribs then? People listen far too much to the "experts" and not enough from our ancestors.

One of the biggest game changers when it comes to diaper bags is buying a diaper bag insert. Mine is from a brand calles Lilibell. It's basically a bag in bag system with which you can use any of your existing bags (backpacks) you already own and get the benefits of the compartmens. It also has handles so you can use it on its own or take it out and put it in another bag.
Thank god I found a "normal" person, who gets the idea of essential. I was wondering what I would be needing for my newborn but what I saw till now were people really!!! overdoing things. In this overpopulated world with not enough resources we should really not "overdoing" things anymore. Thank you for your post, it was really helpful :)
Great video. Please keep in mind, mommies, if you have a c section you don’t be able to reach down into the bathtub to bathe your little one so you’ll need a sink insert or small baby tub 😊
Love your advice. My baby is 7 months right now and I got way too many things though all of them second hand. I will definitely tell first moms not to buy too much. There are too many items that you just do not use.
Another essential if you have older toddlers/kids already: a baby carrier! That way you can keep baby close when doing random things for your other kids!
Also helps with neck control (counts as "tummy time" if that stresses anyone out), regulates temperature and helps improve digestion significantly (since you're moving their intestines for them). So all people with colicky babies, try carrying your babies for a few days straight, and stop giving them D drops (if you EBF, ingest 6k IU daily and baby will be 100% okay) and these two things will likely improve their digestion dramatically.
I couldn't agree more with everything- ps. love your aesthetic. I love the more tasteful baby items as well and I found that with a little digging you can find simple and beautiful items for babies.

I'm SO happy to have found your minimalist video for this! I've always been a minimalist, and am a first time mom. This video was great. Thanks sooo much!
I’m not pregnant or even dating 😂 but I got a madewell canvas tote earlier in the year and I thought to myself, I am literally going to use this as a diaper bag one day! Lol the amount of things needed when you’re having a baby is already so much so I love hearing that it’s worked well for you! (Your baby is absolutely adorable!!)
Girl don't you worry about "dating" or currently being pregnant. You go ahead and get all those awesome baby things and one day you'll be thankful you did ❤ i hope you have a great life
It can be so overwhelming with what we need and often I feel like it's too much. Thank you for this paired down minimalist essentials list. I'm currently 32 weeks and starting to worry
I love it, way to be a true minimalist, I’m so worried about our shower and knowing that gifts will come. Thankfully being aunts has prepared us a little, and we kinda know which products we are drawn to already...
Glad for this video right now... trying to remember the most important essentials for baby #5 who was a surprise at ago 47. I don’t have many baby things from the other kids as I didn’t think I would have another at this age and of course we didn’t have a baby shower. Thanks for showing the “bare necessities”!
On summer, I think V-Fyee mosquito net cover for stroller also is an baby essentials. It can keep bugs flyings out of your baby when you can take your baby outdoor walking. recommended!
What I learned after my first is to wait and see. I wanted to be prepared, however, I didn’t need a lot of what others found essential. I should have waited to purchase when needed. For example, my son never once spit up or drolled. I even sewed my own burp cloths! Never touched them. I had a whole collection of cute triangle cloths you clip around their neck for droll and never used those either. YOU may have your own items that you find are not needed for your baby and your particular family needs. Best of luck mommas!
I was watching this video 5 days ago with a light heart, pregnant with my first baby. I miscarried 3 days ago. I dont know how to get over this. I hope to rewatch this video soon, with both my angel baby and future baby in mind.
This is one of those things I would have loved before my first. I had a few more things than I needed, and also with my second and third I had even fewer than you had. One things I loved that you don't that was amazing, especially with second and third was a baby wear wrap which helped me get through things and walking without a stroller.
@@marianap.h3961 I found that muslin blankets are really good to have, its mostly about diapers and wipes, have about 7 to 10 onside, for the first year and do laundry every two to three days, have Two thicker blankets that can be used for warmth and as playmats. I got a cheap bouncer for when I needed to put my kid down and got a "travel system" for a carseat and stroller, but later realized an umbrella stroller was more practically when I went out using a car. I wouldn't go out and buy all the baby meds for your first just because things like diaper rash, colic, and fevers are things SOME babies get but some just don't and if you have a partner or support system that can run out the first time you need them, they last forever, rash I prefer D+A, it doesn't get all over everything and stain like desitin and seems like it stays where I put it better. Also, if the skin isn't broken use baby powder because it needs to dry out and if it's bleeding use diaper rash ointment to create a water barrier to keep the poo away, fastest way to heal rash. A baby brush is helpful if you are bothered by cradle cap but really isn't a necessity, more of a nice helper for moms who obsess about getting the cradle cap off, baby oil helps with that too but I never used it for anything else with all three and the two I watch. If you cosleep then a cradle is a waste and just get a pack and play with a bassinet setting, it will make it easier to help your little one in the middle of the night, you can set it up right next to your bed for the first few months. A glider is nice but not necessary, you'll figure out your own mother's rock both for sitting and standing, instead of a feeding pillow just have extras in the rooms where you might feed them. And have a spot you feel most comfortable holding him for a long time. Keep a phone charger there have a place to put a drink and something to do, a book. A craft, a computer, a list and pencil because you will find yourself holding them asleep and once the awe wears off you'll want to do something. It's also a good place to store that bouncer so you can figure out the transfer. Have water in every room... its easier for nursing and bottle prep. If you chose to do bottles or if you pump and freeze a bottle warmer is a great help in getting them to sleep. Warm milk helps anyone sleep better. You also need maybe 5 toys to start out with, get something silicone they can chew on, something hard they can shake and makes clacking sound they can chew on, and something soft they can cuddle with that isn't bulky because small arms and poor motor skills. If you decide on pacifiers try getting one of three types, the classic shape with the flat end, the entirely round thick rubber type and the MAM ones, three kids and each had a different preference and once you know which they like get one for the car. One for the bag, and one for the bed... and keep one or two for backup when one of those gets lost or broken, because once you start them they are needed for a while. But the main point I'm trying to make is your baby is going to be a person with their own unique qualities. It's better to start out with the basics of blankets. Carseat, onside and a place to sleep, and start with a two or three bottles. Because you're baby is going to pretty good at telling you what they need and it's better to have the money to get the RIGHT stuff than to have the wrong stuff.
Yes, a carrier is so nice to have for both around the house and going out! I'm pregnant with #5 and had sold mine- time to repurchase. And I agree with you, Layne, a few items here, like the bouncer, for example, are def. non-essentials.
For my first two I had the Moby wrap. Two different kinds, one more stretchy. I didn't love it. For my fourth, I got a Marsupi wrap and it was just perfect!!!
I'm so sorry for all the negativity it sucks I am pregnant with my third child and watching the videos because I have realized we don't need that much stuff we need to interact with our baby we don't need to interact with stuff also babies don't need that much they need you their parents.
Hi, thanks for the info! It was very helpful and I don't feel like I am pressured to buy so much things for my baby. But I have to say that the background music in the video is hard to focus on what you are saying.
Great video! About bottles, I’ve heard from a few people that their baby won’t take it if the mum is around, but when mum isn’t home the dad was actually able to use it 😯
Couldn't agree more about the diaper bag. I bought the big expensive fawn design bag and it was SUCH a waste. Not comfortable. Small space to work with. I ended up just using those travel compartment bags. Worked great and I just throw it under the stroller.
First time grandmother this December. Great list, since it's been so long since I had my own newborn. Also do people often tell you that you look like Winona Ryder so much? You even sound like her. I can't unsee/hear it!
what a beautiful baby!! I did not think i was a minimalist, but after watching, i realized that I am! I did not have half of the items you showed, and it was just fine. But i agree with those are nice to have, just not "must have".
Rewatching this after having my baby last month and I can confirm we use all these things daily. The bottles my daughter likes are called Boon Nursh. They’re shaped like a boob and silicone so it’s a closer feel to breastfeeding. Maybe for your next child these could work? Thanks again for this gem!
I have 3 kids and this list definitely checks out! The one thing I would add is that I preferred the stroller that has the car seat attachment. Much easier to transfer little ones in a hurry. Also, baby sleeping arrangements are a personal preference (and were different for each of my kids!). However, this is a GREAT starting point for new moms making a registry. You definitely need very little when you start out. As baby grows, you will decide what they require more of.
That Swaddle Me item is not SIDS safe. It has actually caused some SIDS related deaths. I used a bassinet next to my bed. Baby needs to be on a flat surface.
Baby 4 due this month. Fabulous list. Very similar and simple. Babies live in pjs and I absolutely love the zipper features for the first few months and especially going forward because the little legs will kick and wiggle so much you will have little patience clipping pjs on and off.
Ooooh! Was soooo looking forward to finding a video from a mum who doesn't suggest getting "everything and more, because you never know". Thanks for your video, now I really feel like I am not crazy, and babies in fact don't need all of the crazy things marketing persuade us to buy :)
Hi! I enjoyed your video. Great shots and very beautiful baby. As a mom of four I learnt more with each baby and what I liked and what I felt I needed for baby and yes my peace of mind. Happy mama usually means happy baby!! I agree with all your recommendations!! I never swaddled my babies personally but my besties still swear by it. I got the bugaboo donkey 2 with my third and loved having a bassinet. I used it for the first 6 months and highly recommend it for mommas that are out and about on public transport. Otherwise if you're driving you can just get the car seat to go on your stroller. Oh the snuggle nest! I only got it for my fourth and loved it. And also yes the baby Bjorn bouncer!! Loved it! Again, great video!
Moms sometimes are anxiety. I think it's normal. just because we want to take good care of our babies. So I just face my anxiety. And I purchased some products. I think they do work, such as halo swaddles, Sense-U baby monitor. They actually help me and make me feel peace of mind.
First... Your baby is adorable lol Second... Wow this is great and love your outlook on the subject, this will help a lot and the look of everything, how simple everything is, is so great. Great job.
Thanks! We are totally besotted with her! So glad you found this video helpful. I saw you are expecting a baby girl! Congratulations! There is seriously nothing like becoming a parent, it's the best!
Denae and Bruce thank you!! Yeah your video was awesome because it puts everything into perspective. These are the things you need, everything else is extra. That b-roll of your baby smiling is awesome! 👍 well done, watched your video a couple of times.
Hi! I'm watching this in Dubai and didn't realize you live here too. Thank you so much for this list. It's really helpful for those of us who don't want to buy too much.
I did co-sleeping with all 3 of my children. I love the bond, don't let others control how you raise your children. 27 weeks now and yes I will continue to co-sleep.
Thanks dear!Super agree..love for all the momms all over the world bringing the new human kin literally...deserves the best of the best and nobody understand untill the have a baby at their belly ..but unfortunately not everyone have so they should to have empathy for something that is imposible to describe and has been just taken as garantee...motherhood just need all the support and love to be more and more healthy and harmony more for the future of the world❤️
Wow, you really helped me a lot dear . I have started on my minimalist journey and it’s great to see people making informative videos on parenting too.😘.
nice list, but I would not recommend that baby cushion for sleeping. You even said it yourself, they are not recommended for sleeping because your baby can suffocate on them. it's fine if you are with them, but just leaving them for even couple of minutes can be dangerous. I am very glad your baby was OK and nothing happened, but it could've! Please moms, do not use any pillows for babies! also their crib should also be free of any plush toys! If you don't believe me, do your own research ;)
I agree. You can use it during the day or when they are not sleeping, but never use them unsupervised. So don't use them at night for sleeping. Babies will like them, but if you don't use them, they won't get used to it. So it's not even necessary. Although I understand that some people use them, when their baby does not sleep well. But it's still dangerous.
I really liked dis video. Simple everyday stuff. I have watched so many videos and as a new mom I was so confused like what on earth do I need. Lol but thank you so much! Do you mind doing a video on like skin care and if you used a formula and what time or what diapers you used.
You are very welcome! I'm glad you found them practical! Yes my tote bag served me well. I did eventually cave and bought a diaper bag but that was when Freya was closer to a year old. I talk about it in my up coming baby essentials video (part 2).
Hard being a minimalist having my first because i have a million items from family more cloths than she'll ever wear but i appreciate it from them so i will try to use everything lol
Your baby is sooooooooooo cute! Also, this is very helpful. I'm a first time mama, due in about 4 weeks so I am just checking to see if there's anything I missed. You had great suggestions, thank you!
Tip for babies taking to bottle, leave them with whoever you trust most while you go out and they'll have no other choice for food supply. I suggest starting this from week one. Just to note I did not do this for my own pleasures, I had to go to the doctors appointment to take out my stitches and the baby could not come with me.
Those PJs look awesome. I wonder if they sell them in China. I am so nervous about having my baby abroad, but with the pandemic, it's been hard for us to find a way back to the US.
You will be fine! You got this. I'm first time pregnant (with twins! ) and also living outside my home country. Regarding PJs, I've recently discovered something called knotted baby gowns (or mermaid gowns) which many people also recommend for new borns as you have quick and easy access to the diaper from the bottom.
Great video! I'm not as minimalist as some but now expecting my 4th i know exactly what I need. Although I am a suckered for cute clothes lol. I also don't even bother with burp cloths cause I get several receiving blankets from the hospital and use those instead. We thankfully didn't have a shower this time around and I didn't get unwanted items but my mil keeps buying things and trying to give it to me but I dont need them lol
Thanks! Totally agree! It simplifies life so much and when you have a baby that’s so important! Great minds think alike 😅 The uppababy is one of the best purchase we’ve made. Worth every penny. xx
@@mairazia9812 Planning on making a video on what I found essential for 3-6 months soon! Will be posting a 6 month recap first which I am busy editing now.
I'm preggo with baby 3 and have honestly never used a hairbrush on my babies. Not minimalist IMO! Ditto bath towel - just use any towel - or changing mat - you end up just changing them wherever on a muslin or whatever.
You forgot a swing I couldn't imagine living without the swing it is so calming and babies love them there are so many kinds to chose from but I have tried the expensive vs cheaper models and the cheaper models are actually better in my opinion. I used a Vera Bradley bag for my diaper bag and put makeup bags from Dollar Tree in it to organize it. You also can't forget the milk storage and all the things like dirty diaper storage in your bag. Cloth diapers of throw away you need a place to store those messy clothes so they don't touch other items in your bag so a wet bag it perfect for this. We also love the mason jar bottles they are so neat and cheap to replace or upsize when baby drinks more. You can get them on Amazon and replace 3oz with 8 oz from Wal-Mart. We bought several different kinds of pacifiers just one of each and you get allot of them free in baby registries from stores like Target to see what baby will take to. I never used burp cloths I just used the receiving blankets folded up for some reason we always seemed to get allot of them given to us in all different styles. They can also double as a swaddle so no need to spend the extra money on a swaddle. Oh and with wash cloth, crochet a granny square they are the best for a baby they hold the soap are eco friendly and they wash so well. I know how to crochet but if you don't go to Etsy and buy the crochet wash cloths they are amazing and so super soft yet exfoliating for baby or yourself. Also I recommend a baby bath I know they can be bulky and in the way but most parents wash baby at the kitchen sink while they are little save your back and be closer to baby for a more intimate less scary bath for baby. Put the tub on the counter top and baby comes closer to you and it soothes them since they can see you. Just suggestions I would recommend and I have had 5 kids.
Can I ask where your tote bag is from? I've been looking to replace mine that has severed me so we'll for the last 10 years and bonus that it can double as my diaper bag!

@@laynemartin7914 thanks a lot
Yes, a carrier is so nice to have for both around the house and going out! I'm pregnant with #5 and had sold mine- time to repurchase. And I agree with you, Layne, a few items here, like the bouncer, for example, are def. non-essentials.
For my first two I had the Moby wrap. Two different kinds, one more stretchy. I didn't love it. For my fourth, I got a Marsupi wrap and it was just perfect!!!
I would love to see your minimalist wardrobe and clothing essentials!
Looks like that would be just t shirt jeans and sponsored jewelry 😂
For real XD
I'm so sorry for all the negativity it sucks I am pregnant with my third child and watching the videos because I have realized we don't need that much stuff we need to interact with our baby we don't need to interact with stuff also babies don't need that much they need you their parents.
What a perfect little bundle you have! And she looks just like you.
Thank you for such a useful video! I am 8 months pregnant and full on in a nesting mode ☺️ I really like your essentials list.
Hi, thanks for the info! It was very helpful and I don't feel like I am pressured to buy so much things for my baby.
But I have to say that the background music in the video is hard to focus on what you are saying.
Great video! About bottles, I’ve heard from a few people that their baby won’t take it if the mum is around, but when mum isn’t home the dad was actually able to use it 😯
This is wonderful and Freya is just about the cutest baby I've ever seen!
Your reviews and recommendations are so genuine. Thank you for the video. 6 month pregnant 🤰, and found you while searching for strollers.
Couldn't agree more about the diaper bag. I bought the big expensive fawn design bag and it was SUCH a waste. Not comfortable. Small space to work with. I ended up just using those travel compartment bags. Worked great and I just throw it under the stroller.
Loved this! So simple and calming :) would you consider doing a minimalist nursery tour if you had a nursery set up? X
My minimalist nursery is no nursery at all. Baby‘s gonna live with us.
First time grandmother this December. Great list, since it's been so long since I had my own newborn.
Also do people often tell you that you look like Winona Ryder so much? You even sound like her. I can't unsee/hear it!
Love this! Thank you! Baby boy is coming November 🤍 and your baby is super cute I’m smiling throughouttttt 🧡🧡
what a beautiful baby!! I did not think i was a minimalist, but after watching, i realized that I am! I did not have half of the items you showed, and it was just fine. But i agree with those are nice to have, just not "must have".
same feeling after the first 10 seconds... . Or what do maximalist people do and buy if that's what is called minimalist)?
I really like the idea of the foam bath mat instead of a big bulky tub! Thank you :)
Your video is so relaxing to watch 😻 thanks for all the tips
I’m so glad you found it relaxing and took away some helpful tips! xx
Poni
Have to agree I love the Baby Bjorn bouncer! I bought it used what if a really good price and just bought a brand new cover!
6 months pregnant. Very useful video 💛💛💛💛💛💛
Freya is adorable. I loved your essentials.
Aww thanks! We are pretty smitten with her :) So glad you enjoyed it!
The Uppababy served us well. It was light and maneuverable and easy to fold away! 🍼
Great info for a first time parent, thank you for making the video
I did co-sleeping with all 3 of my children. I love the bond, don't let others control how you raise your children. 27 weeks now and yes I will continue to co-sleep.
Thanks for these tips! My husband and I are expecting our first baby❤
Great video! Very helpful. Music is a bit too loud though. Kindly 💕
I have uppababy too and it's wonderful!!! We live in sunny country and uppababy have very good sunshade!!! And very big basket!!!
Same here! The sunshade is so helpful and I am obsessed with the big basket! We can fit all our groceries in there. Denae xx
An essentials video that actually listed the essentials!! Thank you!
Could use any random blankie you already have instead of buying a play mat
Yes but play mats are made with traction underneath and blankets are slippery on hardwood floors.
Very helpful due month end n this gives me peace of mind that I have everything important
I really liked dis video. Simple everyday stuff. I have watched so many videos and as a new mom I was so confused like what on earth do I need. Lol but thank you so much! Do you mind doing a video on like skin care and if you used a formula and what time or what diapers you used.
Thank you so much for these very practical ideas! I am on the same boat regarding diaper bag, gotta use my travel bag too!
I feel u. lol! so much hand me downs. What I am gonna do is use sets of clothes and not to repeat them anymore. 😂😂😂
I loved this this list! Will there be an update for 2mo-toddler? Curious about what high chair option you went with.
So glad you loved it! Yes. We are busy editing it now so keep an eye out for it in the coming days! xx
Your baby is sooooooooooo cute! Also, this is very helpful. I'm a first time mama, due in about 4 weeks so I am just checking to see if there's anything I missed. You had great suggestions, thank you!
The Target brand "cloud" also has double zippered sleepers and they're 2 for $10
Tip for babies taking to bottle, leave them with whoever you trust most while you go out and they'll have no other choice for food supply. I suggest starting this from week one. Just to note I did not do this for my own pleasures, I had to go to the doctors appointment to take out my stitches and the baby could not come with me.
The lounger is not suggested for sleeping due to suffocation risk.
Love to see vid of Freya's nursery and how it's organized
Those PJs look awesome. I wonder if they sell them in China. I am so nervous about having my baby abroad, but with the pandemic, it's been hard for us to find a way back to the US.
You will be fine! You got this. I'm first time pregnant (with twins! ) and also living outside my home country. Regarding PJs, I've recently discovered something called knotted baby gowns (or mermaid gowns) which many people also recommend for new borns as you have quick and easy access to the diaper from the bottom.
My first baby never spit up and did not like being swaddled…just saying they’re all different…it is still a good list though
Lov your Videos. So Calling and interesting - thank you for sharing these essentials! Xx
This is so compact and helpful, thanks!
Omg what a cute baby !!!! Makes me want to have a 4th baby ❤
Love your video!! Can you link below where you got your leaf playmat please?
Thank you for things. Looking for sustainable and minimalist wardrobe for my baby who’s due in a few months 😀😀
Hi where did u get ur burp clothes from? Thank you
I need more of these videos!!! Thank you so much!
Love your content. Very realistic and simple.
I'll be a first time mom end of October and this video was very helpful! Thank you 😊
Congratulations!! Motherhood is such a beautiful journey. I'm so glad you found it helpful! All the best to you and your little one. Denae xx
I was just reading this and I hope your and your baby doing great! 🤍💫
Love it..I also have the same stuff including uppababy 😄 stick to the must must haves and your life becomes easy
Thanks! Totally agree! It simplifies life so much and when you have a baby that’s so important! Great minds think alike 😅 The uppababy is one of the best purchase we’ve made. Worth every penny. xx
Please make more videos esp baby essentials for 3-6, 6-12 months
@@mairazia9812 Planning on making a video on what I found essential for 3-6 months soon! Will be posting a 6 month recap first which I am busy editing now.
I'm preggo with baby 3 and have honestly never used a hairbrush on my babies. Not minimalist IMO! Ditto bath towel - just use any towel - or changing mat - you end up just changing them wherever on a muslin or whatever.
I am due with twins this summer and still have no clue what to do and get. 😂
Amazing advice, really useful as it's simple and practical!
Cute Freya! Nice video!
My mum had a baby 15 years ago so now I need to watch the videos to learn myself, because she doesn't remember😅💗
I can’t believe I only just found you!! Love your videos!!
What brand were the pajamas? Zipper pajamas (don't bother with buttons even if they look cute) are a must but I love the built in mittens
Can I ask where your tote bag is from? I've been looking to replace mine that has severed me so we'll for the last 10 years and bonus that it can double as my diaper bag!
Love your earrings, can you tell me what brand they are? Thanks!
