Bourbon: The new Beanie Babies. Bringing out the inner little boy collectors. I love it though! A chance to nerd out about warehouses and floors. Ha! I never thought I'd watch so many videos of other people drinking a beverage, but I love seeing these videos where a guy says in all seriousness: "you get that dusty peanut note." 😆
Was waiting for your Booker’s Storyteller review! Bought it blind Saturday after seeing only one Reddit review singing its praises…seems like you enjoyed it so sounds like I made a good buy.
There is a 61 at my local store but I’m hesitant, remember any of the notes? From what I’m reading there is some difference from batch to batch for this gem of Kentucky
I just got "Story teller Batch 2023-4". I can't wait to try it. I've only had Pinkie's Batch. I seem to enjoy that peanut taste and sweetness, therefore, I may really enjoy this one. 🎉🎉 Great review.
I tried a pour from bottle 43 of Gem of Ky and really enjoyed it. By far better than the previous releases. I didn’t get much chocolate but found it really balanced
Another great video Jason. I know it’s an uphill battle finding this bottle but if you can get your hands on Penelope RIO please also review it, you won’t be disappointed.
Snagged a bottle of Storyteller recently for under $100. Yes, please do a blind with the Mighty Fine! But after listening to your reaction, I am excited to crack my bottle open!
Looking forward to you headed to head on the Bookers! You should put the Gem up against Woodford, Peerless, and Penelope or Four Gate in a quadruple bass!
Jason, your description of the Booker’s bottle got me wondering. How long have distillery warehouses been 10 stories high? Does it go back to the time before elevators were ubiquitous in there early part of the 20th century? If so, how did they move barrels up and down so many floors back then? Thanks!
Great video! I can't wait to find that 2023-04 and can't wait for the big 2023 blind of all 4. Could 2023-02 come in better than it was received (doubt it, but who knows in a blind!) I know some really strike out at Booker's price point (let's just call it 100 simoleons), but as you said that it's a blend and the age state is the youngest so it likely sports some higher aged. Maybe that criticism was more justified 3 years ago, but in today's hyper-bourbon market it hardly bats an eye IMO. I think we all love that bourbon is so popular, but the prices really have reached a point, I believe, that the supply that distillers have been producing and aging will start to manifest in higher availability on the shelf of bottles that have been harder to find as well as creating price pressure on the high end side of the market. I'm not saying BTAC will be on the shelf (it won't), but lower tier bottles like a Booker's or similar may be easier to find and 200 simoleon offerings will suffer from buyer's fatigue.
Had my hands on the Bookers Story Teller today in SC @ Stateline in Fort Mill but with the price of $135 I passed. You can never find much of the Allocated in NC but at least it's close to MSRP. In SC it's buyer beware.
The gem I tried was in the 20s. I loved it but I’ve got a tough time getting over that 200 price point. Agreed on the Booker’s. Curious to see where you land on the Hardin’s Creek lineup when they’re all out. I did those three against last year’s Jacob’s Well and I was kind of surprised how my preferences it turned out
I agree with you on the 2XO but the finish was super short and light. It was great up front, Thick and rich, but the finish disappointed me and disappeared so fast that I felt cheated.
I have all 3 of the 2XO blends and think they got progressively better, with The Tribute Blend the best. I picked up the Gem of Kentucky barrel #50 about 3 weeks ago and have had 3 pours of it. Not sure what to think of it. Do not think it is worth the $190 I paid. 🥃
Liking the 2023-04 - but Charlie’s may edge it out slightly for me. The Gem of Kentucky has me trying to figure it out - it is balanced and there is something on it I’m trying to identify - perhaps a tangy-ness. Love bourbons that are chewy and both of these are!
Dang! I wish my bottle of Gem if Kentucky was like that one. Is that barrel #22 on your bottle? Mine was barrel #43, and it was so very thin and light on flavor. Barrel 43 is very disappointing for a 2XO single barrel.
I cant wait to be able to pick up theses 100 and multi hundred dollar bottles on deep discount in a few years. The market is absolutely saturated with insanely overpriced bottles at MSRP not to mention secondary prices on store shelves. Whats even more exciting once the wall street rats get tired of the flat returns the distillers will have tons of products that will have high age statements when the market cools.
I dont think $100 and multi $100 bottles will be on deep discount ina few years. There will be less of them around, since they are a few years old, that they will be more expensive. Unless it turns out they were flops. But if they are any good, i dont see them being cheaper. Especially newer releases. Its just like anything, once manufacturers or even retailers raise prices and people are paying those prices, they arent going to just start making them cheaper. Why would they? People are buying them. Secondary market, when has anything been cheaper on the secondary market. Something like blantons may go from $150-125 on the secondary if supply increaeses enough, but secondary will never be cheaper than msrp, especially on older products since that supply will be lower. Those will only become more expensive since supply is down but demand is up. Unless of course they werent good releases. But still not less than msrp. So ya, i wouldnt hold your breath waiting for them to be cheaper. I just dont see it happening. If newer releases do get cheaper because supply is up, the prices wont drop by much at all, if any. Just my opinion from what i have seen/experienced
Yes and no. Supply and Demand works both ways. If we are currently in a Bourbon Boom then we will also experience a Bourbon Bust. With any trend there will be corrections. The trend is already slipping. Just a few years ago craft beer was all the rage along with gin. And those items have slipped significantly in market share. This history has already played out a few times this time though because of the ramp up in production to keep up with current demand when demand falls an enormous amount of inventory will be set to age for a long time.
@@jacksmith2315I just purchased 2 Nulu bottles for 30 each that are 90 SRP. So it's happening in real time. There is just too much on the market especially in the 50-100 range IMO so those will suffer the most.

Storyteller blend has been my favorite Booker’s release this year. That surprised me too because I LOVED might fine batch.

😆 i was about to say the same thing
Lol. Yeah. Caught that. I guess I think the year is over
😂
😂😂😂
Great review and timing. I just bought "The Storyteller Batch" today and look forward to a sip real soon!
Great double bottle review - I loved the 2XO Inkeepers Blend - one of my favorite bottles I bought this year
Agree - Innkeeper’s is great!
I have a #61 barrel… it’s fantastic
There is a 61 at my local store but I’m hesitant, remember any of the notes? From what I’m reading there is some difference from batch to batch for this gem of Kentucky
I hopped off the Booker's and 2XO train. Looks like I'm back on board!🥃

Just got 2 Bookers today! Got lucky on delivery day at the store right be me. Looking forward to trying it tonight.

dont forget about the lucky 7 toasted holiday which is double oaked for alternatives. awesome review my man!
Great reviews as always Jason! I’ll be looking for that bookers batch for sure. I will have to try that 2xo. Thanks and cheers 🥃

I’ll probably make this my one Bookers of the year.
I'd love to see that double bass between the 2XO and K60, K60 is a hitter. Thanks Jason!
What was the final breakdown on the Bookers?
I was going to say Fonzie is in 2024 already 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤙🏽🥃 great review
Torn between love Dedman and the whiskey being overpriced. Felt that message today
Hey Jason. Do you think the last 2 Booker’s batches are as good the Kentucky Tea?

Yeah mine is 22. Apparently the 20s and low 30s were the good ones
I have Barrel#45 and feel the same as #43.
These prices keep going up. Gonna have to go back to drinking beer
Which glass are you sipping out of?
Cheers
Copita glass/stemmed tulip glass
Blind all the 2023 bookers for fun.
When are you going to review that jt meleck in the back I'd like to hear your opinion
Is the Bookers worth picking up if you have stayed clear the last two years?
Not sure. This one is really good though.
Try before you buy good, or grab one good@@TheMashandDrum
Was that the hymen pour?
The Bookers sounds good but not $100 good. Cheers Jason!🥃
$200 nah lmao people are getting crazy with these prices
Kelvin Sixty was 75/20/5 right?
I'm convinced dixon dedman has never created anything that is actually a good value for the msrp
I wish 2xo was just a little less expensive
Same
Found “The Storyteller” today at $75.

It's 2023, not 2024 lol. Great review
Michters 10 rye is now $240 msrp... soo we trending this way
Now that Jay Weinberg is out of Slipknot the rumor is you are the new drummer. Sup with that?
What happened to what's on the shelf Wednesday
Wait, so was this the best 2XO you’ve had? 😅😅
Where has all the POAC gone Jason?
I shared it. Lol
@@TheMashandDrumplease make a video about it. I have the rye if you want to do a sample swap.
@@Kcemate I'm waiting for a sample.of the rye so I can do both in one video.
Two times the price of the last 2XO? Hahahahahahaha. Easiest pass of the year.
Flatliners is a good movie?. Unsure of year.
Wouldn’t buy it at that price if I could. Just a cash grab now. We’ll see what Campari does with 101 going forward
Why does Jason keep saying 2024, is he already there?!
