@9:30 - meant to say S9
Testing out a couple 3rd party usb-c to hdmi adapters for use with Samsung DeX. And also pointing out some things to be aware of when choosing which adapter to buy and use.
*I mis-spoke a few times when I said S9, but I meant Note 9. I will annote those parts so the viewer will not get confused. Sorry for that.

Good idea!
Damn it! I should've
This is very helpful, among other videos this is the only one who showed that with a power adapter the hub will work with Dex, thank you!
Thank you for viewing, and positive comments! Glad it was useful for you.
Congrats bro! UA-cam likes you, because you just got recommended to me.
Spectrum - That so cool. I guess I'm doing something right! Lol
I don't usually comment, but I wanted to say some things here. First, good job on making a useful video. The umming and slow pace does make it look less professional, but you presented all the relevant info. It is a good video. Two, yes scripts will help, but if you are a heavy procrastinator its better to put a bad video out first, and then work on an improved one to replace it. Three, rather than looking at it as 'one big video', instead see it as a series of scenes. The reason you're a bit nervous talking is because you're trying to keep 15min of dialogue in your head. If you broke it up into 5x 3min scenes, it wouldn't be so stressful. That's how the pros do it. The fact you covered just about everything in a 15min off the cuff video is a testament to your ability.
Good luck and I hope you make many more useful videos
Thank You ! I was considering the same adapter in the videos because they only have that one in the local store but not sure will it work or not. Now I know, this video helps alot.
the best video information on the samsung dex and adapters that i have been looking at for 2 are 3 weeks and have tried out among others and these were my favorite adapters i have the galaxy S8 so thank you very much

AR9fy - Haha just winging it. It helps give me time to come up with what to say next. Lol
Few people still speak it. It’s a sacred language. Kinda like Latin. 😊
MobileDecay - lmao! You guys are roasting me pretty bad. Luv it! Guess it's deserved for doing an info video w/o a script. Lesson learned
AIDAVUE I’m joking I enjoyed the video. I don’t script my videos and I tend ramble and get totally confused. I get yelled at a lot. 😁
MobileDecay - Haha! I see! Still new to this UA-cam thing 😂 And it's a relief that I'm not alone. But thank you for the kind word on the video. Appreciate it!
That was extremely informative, i was using my Tab s9 and wondering why i connect HDMI to TV but it keeps on flickering and not displaying image of dex
Im using that 3-in-1 dongle, and after plug in usb c for additional power, it finally works smoothly
Thanks for saving me a lot of headache, i’ve searched countless number of threads and videos without finding the right answer 😂
Glad it worked out for ya! Appreciate the feedback. Enjoy the new setup!
Thanks for the demonstration, it was really helpful. I preordered my s10, and was wondering how to get the most out of it in Dex
Zs Sz - You're welcome, and glad you found the video helpful. Whoa! You're going to love the S10. It's a beast of a phone, and DeX will certainly maximize how you use your phone.
Go look at the CHOETECH youtube channel they have what you need for that phone

You can actually just download the Samsung Dex software on your desktop and then you can just connect your phone with your charging cable to you pc
@@waleed4018 Correct. But that only works for the Note 10. Unless I'm mistaken, and a software update will allow that feature for older S and Note models.

Great video. I'm watching using Dex on a Note 8.. Yes in 2020.
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it useful.
Which adopter are you using? I also have note 8
@@uuutech2949 I use all three.
Can I use Dex on a Note 8 with a generic adapter?
Is that usb type c power source need to always on for use dex or just plug without power ?
I have a Note 8 and Dex still turns on with a simple aftermarket $8 USB-C to HDMI adapter I got on Amazon. The adapter does not provide power, but still initiates Dex on my phone. I am able to do the screen mirroring or use it as a computer, but for screen mirroring when I play a UA-cam video for instance (the whole reason I got the adapter), it only plays video and not audio. I know it's not the cord or TV because I've used the same HDMI cord to plug into my computer and play movies from my laptop on my tv, and the audio comes out of the tv as desired when I do that. So I think it's this cheap adapter. Even though it still initiates Dex and displays video, it does not push through the audio.
Thanks for sharing. That's the first I have heard of it. Strange indeed. Maybe try updating the phone's software?
Thank you very much. Very great tips. I bought the hub one you show on note 9. And i also got The galaxy note9 and i didnt knew about the only hdmi option. It will be helpful but i will buy on an 2nd moment. IF the screen mirror only mode be very precise them its fine for me. Thanks

I really confuse how to solve this and found this video.
It is work when I use hub hdmi port with charging it in usbc port. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Very helpful, thanks!
Welcome!
Thank you for the information but I would like to know if the note9 works with the Dex station/dock??
Thank You 😊
You're very welcome! Yes, the Note 9 works with the DeX docking station.
What hub was that one specifically?
New to all this DeX stuff but if for instance I have a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, would the combo still work if I were to plug it in my monitor or does the combo need to be plugged in a DeX station/pad or HDMI hub adapter? (S9, Android 9.0, One UI 1.0)
Clark GP - The official Samsung DeX Hub will work with your with your KB/mouse combo. The silver adapter in the video with the extra usb port I am unsure of. I speculate it will not, only b/c the usb port might not provide enough power for a wireless combo. Hope that helps.
Thanks a lot, that was helpful!
Welcome!
Can i put usb hub to that usb port to extend usb ports. It will not be bad for my phone?
I bought a 6-1 Vivitar hub from Walmart thinking it would work but it wasn't recognized by two of my tvs. I'm using a Note 9 with it. I'm going to go get a straight adapter cable tomorrow. If I may ask, what brand hub is the silver one that you are using?
It's was a generic one I bought off of Ebay. The white adapter I did buy from Walmart for like $10 or $15.
@@AIDAVUE Cool thanks. I'm actually in Walmart and bought both the Onn male USB-c to female hdmi adapter and the J5 Create straight USB-c to hdmi cable. Here's to hoping one of them works.

In tab s5e i use the standard one that only have hdmi port, it works, mirroring also works, i glad samsung didnt limit to Only Samsung Cable thing.
That's awesome, Ryan! Thank you for sharing! Good info. I never really use DeX on tablets, but want to try it out now since I have a Tab S4 from work in my possession.
Thanks for good effort
Thank you omg best video!
Hey I hope you can help me. I have the silver adapter. Sometimes it works like a charm but sometimes it shows like is not connecting with the TV. I do have a Vizio smart TV but haven't been able to figure out how to screen mirror so I don't have to use an HDMI cable. I am ok with connecting it through the HDMI but my issue is that sometimes it works but sometimes it stops working and it "disconnects" and I'm not able to re connect.
I would check hardware first (different hdmi cable, adapter, usb-c port loose, etc.) since you said it sometimes works. If still no, second I would update your phone's software and see if that sovles it. Plus the new Samsung One UI and newer Android OS has "Smart View" feature from the phone's pulldown menu. Once it's enabled, you just have to find the screen mirror option on your Vizio. Then you can go cable less. Try looking for "mirrorcast" or something similar on the TV. Hope that helps and good luck!
Thanks man. Was about to buy note 9 dex adapter for S9+ pheh! Bullet dodged
Ayush Apoorva - Always a pleasure to help save a few bucks!
Good info👍👍
thank you for your help,
Welcome!
I have the S9 and I can get DeX to start up the exact same screen shows up as it did when you hooked yours up the first time. How do I hit the ok button to continue??? Please help aha I like it better than the screen mirroring but cant move past that point.
Brady Chamness - Try to tap on the phone's screen. It should light up and you can use the screen as a touchpad.
Hi! Thank you for Your video it's really helpful! I've tried to connect my s8 to benq m525 but failed. I had the white USBc to hdmi but was able to return it and get the grey one ( I got the j5 4k@30hz) but I've not succeed at all. Do I need to get the 4k@60hz? I'm thinking the problem is with my greyed "very apps via usb" in the developer settings when I turn on usb debugging. Do you think that's the case and how can I go about it.
Hey! Thanks for watching. I had the same problem with my S8+. But after I did all the updates to Andriod 9.0 and One UI 1.0, I'm able to to use a generic usb-C to HDMI similar to the white one in video. Hope that helps!
I will help BOTH of you there was a video i saw about 2 weeks ago and was about what was demonstrated here and it was the CHOETECH 9 in 1 MULTIPORT USB C ADAPTER CHOETECH has a youtube channel look it up and also on the TV BOX STOP UA-cam channel
Yes the CHOETECH youtube channel has that type if hdmi at 60 hrz for 4k
I'm using the same hub as used in this video however the display seems to have a lot of noise. I'm sure its not the monitor itself or the cable as it comes out fine with other devices like my Xbox 360. Any fixes?
It's mostly likely the hub if that is what you're describing.
Great video thanks by any chance do you know what can i use for a miroir projector?
rafael damian - Thank you! I looked up that brand, and most have a hdmi port. So you can use any of adapters for Samsung phone. Which phone do you have?
does the Hub allow you to see copyrighted movies ?
I have the set up in which I could see the movie on my cell phone but yet I cannot see it on the TV through the Hub I have .
what I have is
Type C Micro USB to HDMI Cable, Weton MHL to TV HDMI Adapter 1080P HD HDTV Mirroring & Charging Cable, Digital AV Video Adapter for Android Smartphone to TV Projector Monitor 6.6ft
Wow that's a setup. Not really. I've had no problems watching movies through the various apps, and even downloaded ones. Think of it as a desktop version of a Chromebook.
@@AIDAVUE
Since I post it my comment I have been thinking about it and I came up with a logical explanation ,it is the cables manufacturer who wants me to join their website and get their services , I think that is why they are blocking certain material without participating in their program and paying them a monthly fee .
how do you download off UA-cam ? that would be a good UA-cam to make .
My Huawei y9a is not mirroring ....any advice for
Nice job with the video I was hoping you would try the note 9 in the Dex station just to make sure it fits I currently have a note 9 it was thinking about purchasing the deck station itself
Carlos Obando - Thank you for watching. Glad it was helpful. Yes, the N9 fits in the DeX Station and will give you extra usb ports, an ethernet port, cooling, and the ability to open more than 5 windows versus using just a generic adapter.
Please help me, I have a monitor with USB C ports and no HDMI port, is there a way to display from HDMI to USB C? Not the other way around, or a separate device?
As far as know, there's not a way. Unless there's an adapter for it.
Just use a usb c to usb c cable
Hi Aidavue!
As you know after android 10 update this has changed a lot.
I have s9+ so have you tried after the update? After android 10 I started using dex daily on my laptop in order to not to switch back and forth between PC and Phone with charging cable. But I'm facing with some connectivity issue so I thought better if I get a USB type C to HDMI cable. But the question in my mind that if I get that cable will I be able to use dex on any screen as well? If the answer is no I will go for hub option. Please help me OUT =))
Thank you for commenting, Abdullah. Yes, DeX for PC has been acting weird after the new update. Right now, I'm using the Note 10+ & S20+ and they do work with the cable. But it has been brought to my attention, the max resolution for cable is 1080p
I do not have a S9 anymore, so I cannot comment. My personal is a S8+ which I keep updated, and DeX works fine with cable and plug. Thanks!
@@AIDAVUE thank you for your kind answer. Just two days ago I bought a new Usb cable now it works well :)

Just wanna if u use the USB C to HDMI only adapter does thd phone charge itself?
Yougreen Green - It does not charge if you use that adapter.
is there any way to connect keyboard and mouse to usb-c to hdmi adapter with power connector? I mean if I connect additional usb-hub with keyboard and mouse to usb port of that usb-c to hdmi adapter, will i get Dex with keyboard and mouse working with no problem?
adam balaja - I would use the silver adapter in video for that purpose since it has a usb A 3.0 port for peripherals, and a usb C female power input.
***fyi: The usb A 3.0 will not provide power to peripherals except kb/mouse, usb flash drives).***

Great thx!!!
Beware that third party adapters won't work with 21:9 monitors or 2,5K monitors. Max 1080P 60fps (16:9).
That is correct. Thank you for sharing!
took a whiskey shot every “uh,” died by 1:45
I have a Samsung galaxy note 9 I just want to watch my streaming apps on my tv. can I watch Netflix peacock and Hulu on dex? Or do I just use screen mirror to watch shows
Yes, you can do it with DeX, but it would be a wired setup. You mentioned screen mirror. If you want to go that route, I actually suggest Google Chromecast. You can do the same, but it's wireless, you save battery life, and multitask on your phone while streaming.
Can you recommend an adapter now as this video was 2 years ago that does dex without a power cable
The Samsung OEM cable if you want 100% compatibility. All other 3rd party cables are pretty much the same. Hit or miss, but much cheaper. If you go 3rd party, make sure you can return item if it doesn't work.
Thanks for the video. I am using a 3rd party adapter usb-hdmi and i cannot get the phone or monitor to respond at all. Any ideas?
Thanks for viewing. It could be a number of issues. Easy checks are to make sure all connections are secure, monitor set on correct input, if adapter has power then connect it, and finally, wait a few moments longer for DeX to load. Also, you can try making sure your phone's software update. It could also come down to bad adapter, or hdmi cord. Hope that helps.
is the standard adaptor cable wohtout power samsung brand. using a generic cable. cant seem to make mine work in dex mode. just mirroring the screen. using s20+
Strange? The non power one in the video is a generic one too.
Thx for the video ! Can we use the hub with an non-fast charger and a Galaxy S8 to have Dex on the screen ?
Yes the hub works with the S8, but I'm not sure about non-fast charger. I have a bunch of Samsung phone chargers, so I never tried a different plug. I'll test, and get back to you.
@@AIDAVUE thx you so much
@@pok_zero So I tried the silver hub with an iPhone plug and it works. Unfortunately, the black Samsung docking station does not. I assume it needs the extra power since the dock has a fan for cooling, and two USB ports for keyboard and mouse.
should i enable the usb debugging mode to able to connect in monitor in samsung s8?
No need to enable it.
What adaptor / power did you use for the Hub?
Is it a samsung phone adapter charger?
Thomas Bluedragoons - I used the Samsung power charger. Although DeX will initialize with 3rd power adapters, those may not have enough power to charge the phone while in DeX mode. Great question! Ty for asking it.
@@AIDAVUE im already bought the hub (brand COOV) and use it with samsung charger..it works 😁
Btw..is it safe to use 3rd party hub / usb c?
Because everytime i connect there's a note "use always samsung original accesories" 😅
Thomas Bluedragoons - That's awesome! Glad it works for you.
As for other question, use at one own's discretion. Fyi, my S8+ screen cracked, and I've been using this DeX setup with that phone for over a month. Nothing yet.
thankyou
Welcome!
hi thanks for the video... but i need your help i just bought a generic usb-c to hdmi but my samsung galaxy a30 ain't mirroring in my tv .. what could be the problem
Thanks for watching. Interesting question. I know the A30's have the Smart View option to wirelessly mirror to a Smart TV. You can try to select that option while you have it connected to the dongle to see what happens. Only other thing I can think of is that the generic dongle is not compatible. Have you tried the dongle on another phone or tablet? Maybe try a MHL dongle. Hope that helps.
@@AIDAVUE can you please advice on which adaptor is compatible with usb type c to hdmi a product with charging and usb ports the name and the brand
@@joe-yz6sn If in doubt, I would suggest the Samsung DeX Docking Station. It has everything you mentioned. Charging, hdmi, 2 usb ports, and internal fan to keep things cool.
It was ok. It should not have taken that long to explain. I gave it an like. Since I watched most of it.
I actually stumbled onto Samsung Dex by accident. I found a usb c to vga adapter in my stock room and hooked it up to see what happened. I was like "Whaaa? What's Samsung Dex?"
Julian Delgadillo - That's awesome! Glad to hear it's working for you.
thanks and Merry Christmas my note 9 screen went all green cant see anything cant even type in my passcode this really helped ill try get it soon
Welcome, and I'm sure if you have a KB & mouse, DeX will work. Read my latest reply to your previous comment. Similar situation as yours with a S8.
How about other Android devices, it will the same as samsung note or Samsung s series?
I think with other Androids it will only do screen mirroring. DeX is exclusively a Samsung feature.
Now the standard adapter with no power should work as dex mode too on S9 after Pie update .
Aam Admi LoA - That is good to know. Thank you for sharing.
@@AIDAVUE Can you please try it on S9 to confirm it ?
@@bhardwaj3319 - I am unable to confirm at this time as I have an international preproduction S9+ and the Pie update is not available for it. I will inquire with my co-workers who have US based S9 and see if it works for them. Sorry, and thank you.
S8 Pie works too!
mss21 - Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Will the 3rd hdmi type c connector without power work with Huawei y9 prime?
I'll wait for your response.

Sorry, Ishaq. DeX is a Samsung feature on their devices, and would not work with the y9. You may be able to screen mirror or cast if the y9 has those features, but I cannot guarantee.
@@AIDAVUE thank you I'll try "cast"
Can this damage your charging ports? If you don't use the official dex station?
Kyle Merriweather-marumo - So far so good. I've been using it on my S8+ going on a year now.
After update android pie to s9 it can work with white adapter ?
Satyendra Gaur - I'm not sure. As far as I know, only the Note 9 works with that adapter. I believe it has to do with hardware, Andriod OS, and Samsung experience version. I could be wrong, but I do not have the US phones to test out. Just pre-production models. Sorry
Have a galaxy a42 5g which is not mhl so now my type c to hdmi adapter doesn't work wonder if the dex will I'm doubtful though think ima just send phone back and get a different phone
Yeah DeX is usually for the S and Note s eries phones.
can you help me how to connect my Samsung galaxy tab s3 to projector. I have tried many USB type c to HDMI converter. But couldn't connect
Unfortunately the Tab S3 does not have Samsung DeX feature. You will only be able to use the cable to screen mirror the tablet to projector. You can use the SmartView feature located from the drop down menu from notification bar. Or you can do it by downloading Google Home, then use its casting feature, but will need Chromecast dongle connected to projector.
Do s it work as a desk top can I use windows 10 urls to connect to auto makers website
Eh. It's more like a desktop Chromebook experience is the best way to describe it.
Hello bro it's is okay to used realme 5 pro, HDMI connect to Gc311 avermedia live game mini
Good question, which I do not know the answer to.
How did you do it? I have windows 10 and a s20 plus phone. Downloaded Samsung Dex in my windows 10. Got myself a type-c to HDMI (direct cord) and connected it to my windows 10 laptop but its not working. not even detecting it on my phone. what do you think is the problem? is it only working on PC and TV?
So it's totally different for PC. Grab your USB-C charge/cable cord and watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/V1Hed86xAuQ/v-deo.html
There's also a Link to PC method that I need to do a video for.
@@AIDAVUE my type-c both ends cord also seems not compatible as the windows 10 laptop don't recognize it, although the phone shows samsung dex on notification but it doesn't lead to. Says cord not compatible later on.
@@RenTagaro You need to try a different cord or an official Samsung. They picky, but mine is 3rd party. Just need to make sure the cord is data & charging.

Interesting. And sorry for the late reply. Have you tried different HDMI cable? Maybe the port is loose?
So I have an hdmi adapter and a galaxy s8. I tried connecting to my TV. It connected and I saw my phone screen on my TV, but then almost instantly it disconnected and then reconnected and kept doing this while the adapter was connected to my phone. Am I doing something wrong? Does my TV not support this??
Your TV should support it, since DeX works with anything w/ a HDMI input. I would check hardware first (loose connections, loose ports, different cable, adapter might be going out, etc.) Second would be to update your S8's software. Hope that helps and good luck.
@@AIDAVUE thank you, I'll definitely take look at the connections. I'm using and old hdmi cable so that may be the problem
i was looking on ebay and most of the adapter like the one in the video say for mac book pro
will those work?
Hi Eduardo, thanks for viewing. There maybe a bit of confusion. Those adapters will work on HDMI monitors and TVs, but not on a Mac book. There's is a feature called DeX for PC, which you can download the client software on your Mac. Then use a regular USB-A to USB-C cord, to connect. Hope that clears things up a bit.
@@AIDAVUE I have a windows pc running windows 10 and those adapters say macbook pro.
@@eduardoherrera1974 Even better if you have a Windows 10 PC. Download DeX for PC software, use your charging cable to connect your Samsung phone to computer. Then you will have DeX on your computer monitor. Only buy the adapter if you want to use it on a HDMI TV or monitor.
Does it work outside of the OS or after getting into it ?
As my phone's screen (Note 8 Exynos) is dead and I have my device encrypted, so will it be able to mirror the Encrypted Password Screen which appears before getting into the OS.

I'm now thinking of buy a Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy note 9 and I was wondering do the Hub brand make a different or any hub that you can powered it will run Samsung Dex??? Please help

Tried like 4 hdmis 2 different phones(galaxy s10 and a note 10+) guy says he tested em all even tried 2 tvs. Got a refund and he let me keep the hub and said it'll work on another TV. Ended up just buying a chrome cast sadly.
I've got NOTE 8. Is this devices will work on mine?
Peter Pete - It should if your phone is updated. It works on my AT&T S8+
Samsung s8 max resolution in this Mode is full HD? Can i go 4k?
I want to use it as "android tv"
I believe only Full HD. No 4K.
@@AIDAVUE ye well thats a shame. But still better than my laggy tcl
Can i play on my pse a d use this adapter on my s10e as a screen?
100subs without a single vidio - Doubtful that can be done.
Sorry for the late reply. If you're referring to the console, then no. But if you're talking about the PSX Andriod app, it could possibly work. I haven't tested it.
I am using same usb hub to connect my note 9 to Acer laptop but it's not working I have used both HDMI and usb cable
Rocky Singh - You maybe referring to DEX for PC which is an exclusive feature on the new Note 10.
Bro i have just a regualr hdmi to usb c cable (j5create from bestbuy) and i cant get 1440p to my oled tv? What gives?
Sorry to hear that, but currently DeX only supports 1080p. There were a couple people who commented on this video about having a solution for higher resolution, but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
I have a powered Hub and when I connect it to S9 plus only enter screen mirror mode and I cannot figure out how to enable decks. How do you do it
With S9 and S8 you have to use the hubs that has type-c power connection as Dex only works when your phone is charing. I just picked the one with 3 port like he had in video on Ebay for $10. It works great with my S8 Plus.
Marlon Johnson - Thanks for the really great explanation. In addition, I had to update my AT&T S8+ software several times in order to get the most recent Samsung Experience 8.0 version, for it to work as well.
@@AIDAVUE Now I'm on Pie and One UI, it now works pretty much like it does on the Note 9, not requiring power to work on the S8.
Can i set my note 10 to my tv only with type c to hdmi cable?
You absolutely can! I use an $8 generic adapter (ebay) similar to the white adapter in the video on my work Note 10+.
connected my note9 to mac...i cant use "use my phone as a touchpad" mode...could you explain why?
DeX Screen TouchPad mode only works when phone is connected to a hdmi monitor or TV. DeX for PC, you will be using your computer's mouse or laptop's touchpad or connected mouse.
@@AIDAVUE thanks!i thought the new note10 can turn into a pad with a pc. Thought itd be the same for mine with the one ui2.0
Not all generic adapters initiate Dex nor screen mirroring with Samsung Note 9
Bern From Wales - Very true.
Planning for S9 for dex.
CONCERN : REPAIR COSTS !
Are the spares of these phones cheaper now too?
BUDGET User here.
DEX will be primary
Thank You
Screen repairs will likely cost the most b/c of the curved screens. Other repairs should be affordable. Good thing is if your phone is cracked, DeX will still work.
@@AIDAVUE true. even back when it was launched.
but any idea about the costs gone down Now?
thank you
Dex: i suppose its plug and play. but would need a USB hub to connect Mouse/KB ( If not bluetooth. mine ARE ). n hopefully does not require a manual trigger from device to activate those. Now m wondering ab using pen drives, exHDD, when the screen is broken. lol
Does it work with a MacBook 2019 16 inch instead of the phone?
Not quite sure I understand the question. But on the Galaxy S10 and above, you can use a regular USB-A to USB-C cable to connect to the Macbook. Then download the DeX for PC program to the laptop. You will then have the Andriod OS running alongside the MacOS, in similar fashion to Parallels (Windows on Mac). You can drag drop files b/t the two, answer phone calls, send/recieve text, etc directly from your Macbook. Hope that helps.
My video on DeX for PC should help explain things even further.
