On my Note 9, can I watch a video full screen on my TV somehow, and get audio through the TV also? When I plug mine in I can't find an option for full screen, and the sound comes through my phone.
Which app? Make sure you have the extra DeX features enabled.

You literally can also run full blown windows through window's own remote desktop (available in the play store). You could remote desktop into your own computer at home or use a virtual desktop service like Amazon Workspaces or Citrix. It is pretty powerful. Essentially your note 9 acts as a thin client

The best video introduction to the Dex Pad that I’ve seen. One other thing I discovered that it can do, is print through USB. (I have an old brother printer that is not networkable, but with the Brother Android Print Service it works by plugging into the Dex Pad).

Still using the original dex pad with my S8+ for my PC duties , Dex has gotten better over time with updates , for my use browsing , looking at tubes , emails , watching movies , shopping etc , it works very well
i do not think i will even bother replacing my old broken pc .

Great video Brett.....Samsung Dex is by itself one of the greatest innovations on any smartphone I have ever seen. In fact I don't know any smartphone outside the Galaxy devices that has this feature...actually feature isn't the right word.....you can run a business from the Note 9. It does everything. Oh I see you can you use the Dex pad not just the dock with the note 8....good to know......I thought you had to use the dock. The pad has all those convenient ports.
Huawei smartphone does have similar feature.. using phone screen as touchpad as well..
Remember the old Motorola Atrix? It tried to do what DeX does, but about 6 yrs ago. Failed at it but it was ambitious for the time. My issue with DeX is it is a solution to a problem most people don't have, that being not having a laptop handy, but you do have a large monitor with HDMI input. Not to mention a keyboard or mouse
For me, this is an insane feature. I know it might be a bit niche but I am a teacher. The vast majority of classrooms I teach in have projectors and HDMI connectors and whatnot. What I do now is keep all my lessons and powerpoints and whatnot on Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc. I know it seems like a massive first world problem but not having to carry a laptop bag and everything with me is amazing. Keep my C to HDMI connector in my back pocket between classrooms, and have my "pc" in my pocket. Once again, I know it might be niche but it has made a huge difference for me as a teacher.
One more thing I forgot to add. Using the S-Pen as the presenter and then being able to just tuck it back into the phone. Teachers wet dream!

I was able to access DeX with a USB C to VGA adapter using an old 720p computer monitor I found covered in 10 years of dust in my mom's basement. That's what brought me here. Had never known about Dex until today but I'm hooked. Using a Note 9.

@Tech With Brett The best thing is I already owned the adapter from trying to connect a tablet to an old projector TV lol. I had no idea what was happening when DeX popped up lol

I've been using Dex on the note 9 in meetings at work and for doing development work.
1) you can remote into any desktop/server with a remote desktop app or ssh terminal app.
(I use Microsoft Remote Desktop and Terminus)
2) also fortnight works fine, you just have to click and drag

Do you feel a delay between your inputs and what the mouse shows on display? When I tried DeX on the Note 8 there seemed to be quite a bit of mouse lag.
You can also right click the volume icon on the bottom right to get the switch audio. Its just hard with the touch pad. Think its a two finger click

When I try to connect my note nine via usb c and hdmi to my monitor or TV it just won't display Samsung DeX. It doesn't even show, that I am connect via hdmi... what should I do ?
I've tried to use the mirroring function but it only uses the dex mode. I can't go back. I pull the drop down and I see the use mouse pad but I don't have the option to close dex or mirror. Can u help?

Thank you for the video, would you mind to try it on Note 8 as well? See if it is with Dex Pad, can the phone be used separately when Dex mode is on? What about a review on Microsoft offices and Hancom compatibility for Dex Mode and with new S pen? Can off the screen or have same screen on both phone and projected screen during presentation ? Hope they works for both Note 8 and 9.

When u close out Dex and go back into it, does it clear everything or will it leave the apps open just the way u had it, bassicly does it work like a restart or more like resuming from hibernation when connecting Dex back up, and does a restart of the phone effect that. Great video btw

I hope this works with Nova Launcher as I can see this being really handy while travelling and just plugging into any monitor.
I use a Note 9. When I connect my Note 9 to my TV. 1) A pop up explains how to resize the screen on my TV so that the screen does not look cropped. Unfortunately, in my haste, I quickly clicked ok and now my screen on TV looks cropped. How do I resize it? 2) I can only use my touchpad as portrait. What can I do to use touchpad as landscape? Take note that I fixed my phone screen to portrait only. Is that the cause of the problem?

I picked up a USB c to HDMI from best buy to have a desktop experience, and that way I can mirror my screen and use a Xbox one s controller to play fortnite wirelessly on the 55" tv 👍

I have not been able to test but you can just tilt the pad up and use the phones cameras.

How does performance differ between Note 8 vs Note 9 when using Dex?

Awesome! It's cool that you can use it as a graphics tablet, useful for "Osu!" :P
But anyway, Dex would be much better when Linux on Galaxy is rolled out. Like, imagine using a phone as a PC replacement (not fully of course but it would still be useful) and having bunch of desktop apps on there. Not just that, but it can be also used as a development tool.

As of right now I have not had any success with a VGA adapter. I will keep you updated.

one of the best future and combination would be when you carry a 15 inch USB monitor with you and then connect to Samsung dex to watch movies on the go
My Note 9 and HDMI adapter does not show a Samsung DEX option. The connected TV only shows screen mirroring. Everything I have seen shows Samsung DEX as an option when a monitor is plugged in.
I'm using Nova Launcher and BxActions (to eliminate Bixby). I've tried uninstalling BxActions and switching to the Samsung launcher without any success.
Any ideas? Do some of the USB C - HDMI adapters not work at all? I got one of the ones with a single USB port, a USB C Jack for charging and an HDMI port.
That's weird should work I bought a USB c to HDMI cable from best buy and it instantly gave me the option for mirror or dex in the drop down notification section.
I had the same issue, turns out the adapter needed to be powered. So mine had an extra usbc slot, I plugged the charging cable into that and viola. Every thing works.

Tech With Brett Please talk about the resolution and fps. I think it depends on the cable too. Some people have only been able to get 1080p while others have 1440p. I think 4k output is only when it is in mirror mode, and 1440p is the max resolution while in Dex mode.

Let me just go and take some some programming couses and I will get right back to you.... Most likely if you phone is able to open the app to code it will work. If the compiler or SDK needs a exe software install it would not work.
I regret getting the Dex station instead of the pad 😭 I'm missing out. Btw will the pad work with note 8?
When I pull out the s pen nothing happens and the phone doesn't respond to the s pen. Did you have to change a setting to make that work? I have the note 9

I would think using the S-pen as a mouse controller then go to Bing and use the draw function. Maybe even to pull up a document and write notes on it. I will soon be a note 9 owner and want the same thing.
Can Samsung Dex be used to annotate/ 'draw' on an image or pdf? As a teacher, that'd be awesome to be able to do!

I love DEX on my Note 9 it just works, and used it for some work using Office 365 very responsive.
Something changed though recently DEX and Mirroring stopped working. I am wondering if an update or an app may have contributed to the issue.
Before I factory reset, have you come across this issue and if there are settings within the Note 9 just to reset DEX config?

I have not seen that issue. Usually it just won't load DeX. There should be a pop up to switch back or you can look in the Accessories settings of the phone.

Just for a clicker but not for an actual mouse. Only hovering over the screen with the S Pen gives you the mouse option.

How did you record your screen? When I record my screen in DeX on the tab s4 it only records the mousepad :(
I am not sure how it would work on the Tab SR but I am using the DeX Pad plugged into an Elgato 60 to capture the output into my computer.
@@TechWithBrett ah with an elgato it would work. A bug that is new on the note 9 and tab s4 is that when you record the screen with an app it doesn't work.
With AZ Screen Record? Have you tried Game Tools? So it just doesn't record in the game?
I personally use DU Recorder, but when I try to record the screen it record the phone's screen, where the touchpad is displayed. When I was livestreaming there was no way to select the external monitor as the screen to record, it would ask to start recording then record the static mousepad.

If you try to call a contact from a message when using a mouse does your phone crash and ask you to restart application?
Or if you have contact list open on the your phone screen then try and open it with a mouse on the dex does it crash?

@@TechWithBrett yeah mate. I think it's because the note 8 didnt allow you to use both the dex system and your phone at the same time. Obviously when in dex mode it cant show the same app open on the screen and the dex station at the same time.
On the note 9 I really miss the swipe right to call or left to msg on a contacts previous msg in the inbox. Instead you have to go into the msg from that contact and click up the top on the phone then when the number comes up hit the phone again. Pain in the ass.
Some people says that netflix only can open full screen on screen mirroring..but this video show you can do it in dex mode?is it the update so now we can watch netflix fullscreen on dex mode?

The dex cable ia exclusive to the note 9 but i think that the pad is better due to it being more compact. (Not a lot of experience so a grwin of salt is included)
In the DeX settings you need to turn on the option that can adjust the size of apps to full screen in DeX labs and it should work.

Hi Brett. I am having problems with the RD Client app using on Samsung Dex via my Note 9. The app goes full screen but shows my PC in a smaller window? I have full screen mode. I tried running the app through DeX Max and also tried to modify it through DeX Max. Nothing seems to work. On the phone it works perfectly. I did not have this issue when I had the Note8.
Is the app actually RD Client or is there a different name?
@@TechWithBrett the app is actually called Microsoft Remote Desktop from the play store. On my phone it abbreviated as RD Client
Thanks for clarifying. I wonder if it needs an update. That is just werid how the 8 worked but not the 9. Have you tried adding the app to the Game Tools and trying to open it full screen there? I will need to do a bit more research on my part to find a solution.

@@TechWithBrett Unfortunately, eventhough it was a great call, it did not work. In normal window mode its ok and workable but would really like it to be in full screen. Hope MS will update soon. It is so seamless. Better that TeamViewer in my opinion

It's possible, but it's not a nice experience to be honest.
Hey Brett, i had Note 8 and now 9. I have 1st generation Dex dock and a 3rd party adapter. I saw in your video that you controlled the mouse in Dex mode with your spen. I don't have this feature, my notification only says "tap here to open the touchpad", i don't have the part with "with your finger or spen". Can you look into it? Is this a feature of the new Dex dock? It can't be just a Note 9 feature as i have the phone but not the feature. By elimination it looks that the pad is giving you the option. Maybe you have the means to find out. Also look into other limitations. I've read somewhere there are some between using 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, Samsung's usbc hdmi adapter and hub (they also have a hub)
Enter dex on your note 9 and the moment you pull your pen out the spen will act as a mouse
@@kdubspencer3390 It doesn't. I've been through multiple tries. It's not something i do wrong its something the phone does...better said doesn't. I can only "tap to use your phone as a touchpad"...for me it doesn't say "control Samsung Dex with your finger or SPen". I factory reset the phone, no luck. I need someone with 1st gen and 2nd gen Samsung Dex dock to check if this is a feature of the 2nd gen. I also tried a 3rd party...still no go
@@diaconescutiberiu7535 I'm not even using a Samsung dex dock just a random USB c to HDMI cable from best buy on my note 9 and. It shows mirror it on TV and l and when I drag down the notification panel dex I choose dex and go into dex mode and with no trackpad so then o pull the notification tray down and it says use your phone as a track pack so I click that and boom my note 9 turn black and is a mouse and keyboard and when I pull the pen out it automatically makes the pen the mouse pointer

Looks cool, is the Samsung Note 9 worth the expense to upgrade from a Note 8? I love the Dex wish they had a laptop DeX TO USE AT WORK Currently I have a HDMI Monitor and a DeX Pad in my car when out in the field and need more then what I can do with a phone only, ie Needing a Full Keuboard and mouse or touch pad.

I have preordered a Mirabook, although it is a good looking unit, delivery time is still up in the air. I wrote them a letter/e-mail and they were quick to respond, but an email response is not the same as one in my hand.
The Prototype that Samsung had in a UA-cam video looked good, but never produced for sale.
I also found a car dock for about $120 and the item shows a car mount monitor and keboard akin to the type used by law enforcement.
still not sure if the Note 9 is worh the expense to upgrade.

Does anyone know if this is the same as note 8 with the spen or is it more exclusive to the note 9? Just wondering as I'm debating picking up a dex, and also which one is better- the dex pad or the original Dex? Is there any differences?
I can advise on my opinion which DeX to go for but whether the SPen function works on the Pad I won't be able to as I have the original DeX. I currently use the original DeX with the Note9. The down side on the original is that you cant use track pad comfortably. You cant have a case on th phone and dock into the original DeX. Have not found case yet which works. The down side on the Pad is that you don't have a ethernet port. This, in my view, is the least of a problem as I don't use the ethernet.

So when using the S Pen on the DeX Station you don't get the S Pen touch screen?
Thought I'd try it out for you on my Note 8 using the 1st gen Dex Dock, and unfortunately it doesn't have those features to use the S-Pen as a mouse, I'm guessing it's only a Note 9 feature unless there's an update that I don't know about.

Yes the S9+ will work but you need to make sure you get a supported Samsung DeX device. Some 3rd party adapters work but most might just screen mirror, or you can get the DeX Pad. Full review here: ua-cam.com/video/6hpq5zv8gjo/v-deo.html

If you use a browser does it take you to the mobile websites or full website?
Most the time it defaults to the mobile site but you can change to go to the full website in the settings of the web browser.
I would like Dex to offer a desktop version of a browser (preferably Chrome!). The processor is certainly powerful enough - I'm writing this on an ARM-powered chromebook - and I'd like to use keyboard shortcuts when watching UA-cam, for example.
Use Samsung Internet. It works perfectly.

When you select a text box the Keyboard can pop up on the phone when using the touch pad feature on the phone.
But can you use bixby on the big screen?
