The Ford line of cars was updated in 1937 with one major change - the introduction of an entry-level 136 CID (2.2 L) V8 in addition to the popular 221 CID (3.6 L) flathead V8. The model was a refresh of its predecessor, the Model 48 (itself based on the Model 40A), and was the company's main product. It was redesigned more thoroughly in 1941. At the start of production, it cost $850. The Ford Line bore several model numbers during this period: For domestic 1937 production in the United States Ford Model Numbers for 85 hp V-8 equipped cars was Model 78 and 60 hp V-8 cars was Model 74. Models 81A and 82A in 1938, and Models 91A and 92A in 1939.
A high flat-topped hood dominated the front look of the 1940 model, as the grille spread out to reach the fenders to differentiate the Deluxe line and the headlights were pushed wider still. The standard Ford inherited the grille of the 1939 model with blackout on each side of a heavy chrome center; heavier headlight surrounds serve as another major differentiator from the 1939. 1940 was the last year of the 1937 design and its smaller V8 engine, with a straight-six engine to be reintroduced the following year. Sealed-beam headlights were one of the few major advances for 1940, while a hydraulic top was new on the convertible.
The 1937-1940 generation of Fords is one of the most popular automobiles for hot rodding. Early stock car racing drivers also used Fords of this generation among other cars. This Ford also formed the basis for a style of dirt track racing car.
I always wished Chrysler would've would put out one of these following their PT Cruiser. something like a PT Cruiser on steroids! But alas they never did.
I never would have though to use spray can snow! Great idea for my upcoming Revell GMC plow truck.

I love the snow job on this one - in my area we see vehicles looking like this quite a lot. Hard day out delivering will add even more to it. Great build.

Have a lot of paints but that yellow you used is one I need to find. I seem to do a lot of yellow and change the tones by the different primer or base coats I use. Thanks!

That pesky sticky snow too. Looks frozen on there so you can't even sweep it off. Great to use on WW2 armor also. Nice to display for other modelers that do tanks & vehicles that saw snowy weather. Battle of the Bulge stuff & in Korea. Thanks for taking that extra step. Even on aircraft before they put into the sky. The model companies are sending these kits to the right builder. Thanks for the inspiration. That looks real enough to make me shiver.

I built this exact model, in yellow plastic, way back in 1970 or '71. I think it was a Monogram issue but I'm not sure. It wasn't this Coca Cola one but it was an identical kit to this one. Being 13 or 14 when I built it I brush painted it in the old trusty Testor's purple from their infamous little bottle. Finished it in some Flower Power decals from another kit. Fun times...
Thanks for watching!

Years ago I built a red Revell Monogram 65 Chevy stepside. I put a small Christmas tree in the bed and sprayed it down with Christmas tree flocking. It turns out great! Its still at my folks house to this day.

I also use baking soda and hair spray. Spray a shot of hair spray from about 12 inches above the kit and then sprinkle baking powder on it and blow off the extra. Works fairly well.
Your first attempt at a snow job is a very good one!! Can't wait to see your first try at a typical Wischeeseland deer/car collision.

@@hpiguy can you do a video on how to strip paint from a model
You should find a plastic model kit of a Berkshire steam locomotive,in 1/87 scale.Modify a couple of 1/87 scale figures;and do some scratch building,to build a Polar Express diorama.
As far as I know, the only plastic model steam locomotive in /87 scale;that even comes close;to looking like a Berkshire steam locomotive,is Revell Germany's Hudson steam locomotive;kit number 02163.I figured since Christmas is approaching, you should do a christmas themed diorama.Coca-Cola Christmas themed stuff,is synonymous;for this time of the year.
Here's what I'd love to see you do Chris, build a '39 Chevy, '40 Ford or '41 Plymouth delivery, paint it as if it was your company car, running a garage, scrap yard or....a hobby shop!
That would be cool! 😎
You could of used ca glue on glass to let it fog like it wasnt quite warmed up yet and the windows arent defrosted yet wonder how that would turn out.
Try it and let us Know 🤔

AMT has been using that chassis for what seems like the beginning of time. All the way back to the 1960s, that chassis has been under the 39 coupe, later Tudor Sedan and Pannelvan. Also, I recently finished building a 1990s era Pannelvan, with the exact same chrome tree, so very little has changed.

What a fantastic variation. I bought this kit a few months ago and am just now getting around to starting it.
This version gives me lots to think about. (Maybe I'll do mud instead of snow!)
Thanks!
I am in process on this 1940 kit and did metal flake Aztec gold undercoat and metal flake lime green over. OMG made my whole year.
I built one wayyyy back in the seventies. I'd love to make another one with my batterymaker sideline on it.
I love this model! I want to do that one soon
You should!
I had the coco cola coupe (Similar) and it had TONS of flash. Love your reviews!
That looks amazing! I dont build any trucks but now I want to build a truck that looks like one from here in the wyoming snow!
Good Saturday morning Chris. Nothing better than watch the Happy Guy build another fantastic model kit. I remember this kit but I never bought one. Now I will have to add this 40 to my collection of other 40's. The snow looks great, we did snow on a train layout one time, great build.

Awesome build, I have a similar kit, AMT 40 ford sedan delivery, not the coke a cola but the 2 tone brown, molded in white. Bought it the late 80s still in the box unassembled. Love the 1940s cars and trucks.

Thanks again, Chris! Just out of curiosity, if you decided to leave the body as molded in yellow, would you glosscoat or apply Future? Thanks again!
I always apply Future, or Quick Shine, they are pretty fool proof and easy.
Thanks for your videos, you do some very cool models, my problem is that I can’t find most of them for sale anywhere. The only website I found with anything good was out of stock on anything I wanted. Any sellers you know that might have some of the models, like this 40 coed, you could recommend would be much appreciated.
Thanks, keep up the good work
I say where to get them in every video and link in the description right to them, and I place that info on screen as well. The links remain in the description for help.
Thanks!
I built an amt 1940 coupe back when I was younger. Mine was the George Barris "crusin usa" version with prismatic dekals and dry decals that you apply and rub down. It was a super fast and easy build cause it was molded in black so I didn't paint the body. Judging by your build this one fits together super nice and a super FUN kit to build! I really love the fact that they have and extra stand for it and the wide whitewall tires. Just another fantastical build and I love how you weathered up for when they brine the streets in the midwest..
Thanks for the nice words and for watching!

One hell of a first time snow job!! Looks convincing. I agree never hurts to try something new! I have the hot rod version of that and I'm going to chop the top about 1/8" all around like the vans of the 70's. Cutting the windshield and windows is a lot easier in plastic as opposed to real glass !! lol
Nice job.
Thanks for the nice words and for watching!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Excellent job, Chris ! Wet, shallow snow is very common here in Central Virginia winters, so if the snow is sprayed on the model from only one direction, it looks like it was breezy and snowed, & was parked outside my house all night. (I need to scrape off the windshield before I can drive it out on the neighborhood streets to the country store to get my bread, milk, eggs, and Coca Cola !!

Great idea with the spray snow! Wonder how durable that snow will be over time or if it might yellow? With Christmas coming in 4 weeks, you should do a build with Santa in it!
It will rub off in spots if you handle it a lot. I pick it up by the windows and no issues.

Did you have trouble getting the front axle to slide through...mine is not going to fit. Will not slide though.
Nope, just look to see what's blocking it, usually some flash, just clean it out with a knife or small drill bit.
Did you have any trouble getting body and int tub to fit down on the fenders, properly? Watched a video from four years ago on an earlier version of this kit, he said that the bar that goes across the fender/running board section, just in front of the rear fenders has to be cut out to get it to fit down right. Apparently that bar was for molding purposes but instructions do not tell you to cut it out.....
There may have been some trimming. This video was done quite a while ago so I don't recall.
Anything like minor snipping is just a part of modeling.
If it required major surgery I'd say so in the video. I don't recall this being a pain at all.
Great build Chris, love the weathering I got to get this one 👍

Another great build and video! Thanks for sharing!
Quick question...when using the Rustoleom spray cans...how do you keep the spray nozzles clean so they do not affect the next paint job? I tend to get splatters after the first use.
Just soak them in Super Clean overnight if they clog and they will work well again.
