Just to add: the Yo-Zuri Hybrid I paid $13 for which is about the same price per yard as the Berkley Vanish. I originally thought the Hybrid was just a fluorocarbon coating but according to Yo-Zuri is molecularly bonded throughout and extruded as one blend. Let me know if any of you have experience with the hybrid line and what you think.
I changed to Vanish leaders this spring after watching a test on youtube rating it as one of the best but after 2 days on the river fishing with it I could tell it broke off much easier. I use the Melvin Island special and Double Pitzen knots so they don't break. I changed back to Yozuri Hybrid (12lb)and haven't broke a leader in 5 trips.
@@crashdsnowman1 thank you sharing your experience, I have also been using the hybrid exclusively for my leaders since doing these tests. The knot strength was also superior to all the lines I tested. Vanish and other fluoros did horribly in the knot tests
Thank you Brian! I did spend some time that year in the off-season figuring out my favorite leader material line, lol. I think in short, flouro isnt worth the $ for me personally, but if you want to use it def buy the berkley vanish mainline as opposed to the crazy expensive "leader" materials that come in small amounts and are so overpriced
Thanks for sharing! You are really doing your homework on these lines, and I will definitely revisit these videos in the spring, when I start gearing up Saltwater fishing!
Of course man, your very welcome, yea it’s keeping me busy during the off-season, I know it seems kinda overkill and most everybody can prob catch the fish regardless if their using the optimal leader but I’m really trying to go even lighter with my lines next season so I wanna know.
I use the hybrid for my leaders for about a year now, I haven't had any bad experiences, but I don't feel that it is less visible than a normal mono like ande
Gotcha, and thanks for the comment. Yea that makes sense, it didn’t look much different than a typical mono. How is the memory on it? Does it get “wire-y” (don’t know how else to describe the way fluoro will get a bend in it and not go straight again)?
These videos are awesome! I’ve been doing a lot contemplating on switching over to all mono. I’ve been burning through so much $ on Seaguar. I need to find a mono line that has low visibility like a fluoro without sacrificing too much abrasion strength.
Thanks! I'm glad you found this series helpful, I do plan to continue some more tests in the off-season again. I hear ya, I was back and forth with mono fluoro but this year I have yet to tie on a fluoro leader, and I have not noticed any difference in catch rate, maybe even higher this year (but likely unrelated to the line I'm using). I like the yo-Zuri hybrid a lot actually, and that's what I've been using mostly, and its knot strength on loop knots is great (i did a series on that too). I think it's a confidence thing, just like many of the lures or baits we fisherman use, once we start catching on something we tend to stick with it. Try it out!
@@PeterRanieriII I saw the dropper loop videos. Those are awesome too. I realized I’ve been tying mine wrong lol. I guess I do what you call a double over hand loop but I loop it three times. I definitely have a lot more of your videos to watch but I’m definitely going to try out that hybrid line. Thanks for the advice 🙏
Trilene big game is the best mono I've used. Not enough extra stretch in the mono to make flouro beneficial for me. And that abrasion stuff is a myth. I changed to trilene flouro and my line was getting tore and splintered up just fishing in the creek. Thanks for your time and effort on these tests. Fixing to try the hybrid yo Zuri. I've thrown off a few big swimbaits from knot slippage with that vanish. Maybe it doesn't like the trilene knot.
Great video!! Hey I’m thinking about buying power pro maxcuatro braided line as a main line, it’s suppose to be 25% thinner then normal braid if you need another test idea or have the line try and do a weight test instead of abrasion test to see which is the best braid out there! Thanks so much and keep up the great content!
Thanks man I’m glad you like the vids! I will def be doing some line tests for knot and breaking strength, good idea though to do some for different types of braid. I’m super curious to see myself and I’ll look for some maxcuatro 👍
I fish straight 15 on yo Zuri in my bait casters in a very rocky fishery for smallmouth best of both worlds can put any lure on it works well. Larger diameter doesn’t seem to after bite rate. Yo Zuri does not cast well on a spinning rod at all don’t even bother trying.
Yeah I only use spinners.. and bought a yozuri hybrid. The first couple of days were a nightmare.. the darn line kept unspooling like a spring and multiple times it would get tangled up. But I was determined and after a few days the line kind of "warned in" and fished fine until I got a nasty snare and I was determined to get my lure back . Well one thing is for sure.. once these lines stretch they are done. They become very weak. The second time I spooled it I soaked it in hot tap water for 10 minutes and vuala no more unspooling messes..
I stopped by to learn. My sports shop keeps selling me fluorocarbon leader saying so much better that buy flourocarbon line in a spool. But geez the cost. Berkeley Vanish is on sale right down the street for $11.99 for a 250 spool. My mind is made up. Thank you
Hey thanks for commenting! I've translated what you wrote which I think is either Russian or Ukranian into google translate: "Cool fishing line !!! 6 years 😲 fish with ultra soft-om. The strength, after 6 years, is practically the same. The only thing has become tougher. Diameter 0.4. The kilometer-long Vitili-rakolovki were dragged ashore. In a hurricane with shells and stones at the bottom, they fished, but it didn't care. Worth its money. It is a pity that it has been discontinued. No monofilament has similar results." My reply: That's truly amazing for the line to be just as strong after 6 years of being submerged in the water. I wish they still made a line like that today as well! Translation: Это действительно удивительно, что леска остается такой же прочной после 6 лет погружения в воду. Я бы хотел, чтобы они и сегодня сделали такую линию!
Hello Peter . I wanted to tell you, that I always watch your very interesting videos. your evidence tells the truth about the wires. the building houses tell a lot of lies. good see you next time🤝🤝🤝🤝👏🇮🇹👈
Thank you very much my friend, it is nice to know you watch them and enjoy them. This is exactly why I like to do these kinds of videos, it’s becoming clearer to me that the fishing gear companies have overstated a lot of their claims to get us fisherman to keep buying more of their stuff 😆. See you next time 🤙

Super valuable video. Thanks for taking the time to do this! Guess I'll be buying berkley :)

@@PeterRanieriII I would say its less wirey then most other brands, but it still has some to it when you take it off the spool

I like the yo Zuri leader
Same man, that is my go to leader now the yozuri hybrid, especially for the fluke/stripers 20lb test
Where can you buy that Berkeley
I guess you can get on Amazon but I would check a bait shop or something like basspro. When you get the spool for main line you get a much better deal
I love Berkley Vanish
It’s the only fluoro I’d buy!
just got seagur 25# orange for $16. 100yds. have always been a mono leader guy, but gonna do some experimenting now@@PeterRanieriII
In relative terms, huge difference in line diameter.
On a percentage basis your right
